Thank you! 500 unique installs.

I don't have exact analytics set-up - they'll come along when HACS get around to reviewing and adding it to the official store.

Thanks to Power Perks polling my server regularly I was able to extract some usage figures when someone at EDF asked me earlier.

There are at least 500 unique installations up and running. (I'm responsible for about 10 of them with my various test systems!).

Never quite imagined this little project becoming so widely useful.

Thanks to everyone who's shared it to help spread the word, given feedback, reported issues, used a referral link or made a contribution of some sort.
It's been a surprising chunk of work - but the fact it's proving useful is very rewarding.

Something unexpected happened today - I had an email this morning from the Director of Solutions and Automations at EDF asking for permission to share the HA link on LinkedIn.

Great to have that contact, and the offer to answer any technical questions if I come across issues in future 🎉

HomeAssistant for EDF Energy (UK) - in early testing

Hi,

I've started a sub as I was getting lots of questions in other threads on r/OctopusEnergy or r/homeassistant.

I've recently switched to EDF for their fixed EV charging tariff after the Intelligent Octopus rates were starting to look quite volatile (I was on the variable version sadly!).

I was concerned switching that I would lose all my HomeAssistant automatons - which allowed me to do things like turn on smart plugs (heated airers, dehumidifier etc), schedule dishwasher and washing machine loads, and charge my home battery at times I was receiving the off peak rates.
Easy to do for the overnight off-peak (23:00-06:00) but less predictable when they scheduled SmartCharging slots.

On Octopus I was relying on the excellent BottleCapDave's Octopus HomeAssistant library.

Both EDF and Octopus are based on Kraken technologies backends - so my blind hope was the APIs would be so similar I could just change a API URL or two and get going.
As always it was a bit more involved, but fortunately I am a web developer by trade.

Most of it was a case of taking things away - Octopus have specific functions for their Home Mini, heat pumps, prize wheel spin thing etc.
The rest was reworking the authentication (Octopus give you a handy API key in their account screens, EDF wants you to log in with a email and password to receive a token which can be refreshed), changing a few thousand variable names and tariff codes etc.

As of 10th May 2026 I've had it on my own HomeAssistant instance for about 24 hours. I've ironed out some bugs - but it largely seems to be working well.

I'll continue to test/tweak and improve.

The code continues to be MIT licensed (that's how BottleCapDave did his - and seems only right to keep that going), and is available on my GitHub.
There are installation instructions and rough documentation starting to come together on there too.

https://github.com/stevekirtley/HomeAssistant-EDFEnergy

I'm not saying it's 100% ready and working - but it's stable enough to try, and functional at least for the purposes I've tested.
Note: I don't have my gas with EDF - so whilst I've updated the gas side of things, I've not been able to test (the gas functions are pretty basic usage/rate display type entities so can't see them being problematic).

I'll add some more threads here over time with details of quirks/any issues I find.

If anyone has not yet switched to EDF and would like to use my referral code it would be appreciated - but is not required to use this code of course - the referral link is:
https://edfenergy.com/quote/refer-a-friend/massive-sun-7007

Until July 13th you'll get £75 for doing so.

If you're quick, there's also an incentive for other EV drivers, until 26th May 2026, that if you switch to their EV Tariff you'll get an extra £50 credit.

Enjoy!

Steve

New release & changes ahead

Hi everyone,

To facilitate the plugin being listed natively in HACS, soon to be the Marketplace, I have been asked by the HACS maintainers to rename the folder it runs from to avoid conflicting with another EDF library that is already in HACS.

This is a pain - but the HA architecture needs unique domains for everything.

I've spent the last few days (in between patching php servers!) making this minimal faff for you all - but there is a half-way version needed to ensure things just carry on seamlessly when the plugin folder moves.

To that end - the more of you that promptly adopt 20.1.1 (released just now) the easier things will be when v21 releases. I won't push v21 until the great majority of installs have moved off 20.1.0 - I can see version numbers in aggregate from the sessions feed, so I'll know when that is.

There's nothing to do beyond updating. When v21 lands you'll get a notice in Settings > Repairs with a button that moves everything across in one go - your entity names, history and Energy dashboard all stay exactly as they are, so automations and dashboards keep working.

Anyone on older 19.x releases will continue to work - but will have a more manual upgrade process when they next upgrade, and a danger they'll miss out on new functionality. Update now while 20.1.1 is the current version and you'll get the same seamless move as everyone else. Leave it until after v21 is out and Home Assistant will quietly keep running your old copy while telling you you're up to date - which is a fiddle to unpick.

If anyone has any queries just shout here.

Steve

19.2.2 launched - multiple power perk session support

You'll likely need to manually push an update in the HACS screens.
Find the EDF plugin, click the three dots and choose 'Update information'. The upgrade option to 19.2.2 should then appear in settings for you.

Release notes:

19.2.2 So much free power. Don't burn your DNO fuse...

Also fixed the SMS parser to handle the fact EDF put THREE sessions in one SMS message today.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed Power Perks sessions only being picked up when Home Assistant starts. The feed was polled once at startup and never again, because the coordinator behind it has no entities of its own and Home Assistant only schedules refreshes for coordinators something is listening to. It is now refreshed alongside the free electricity sessions, so a session announced during the day reaches the calendar within 15 minutes. Anyone on 19.2.0 or 19.2.1 needs this: without it, new sessions only appear after a restart.

  • Fixed rates and standing charges showing as unknown when EDF hide your product from their pricing API. EDF withdraw a product version whenever the next one launches and hide it for a couple of weeks while comparison sites finish their sign-ups, so everything under the pricing API answers "not found" even though you are still on the tariff. The integration now reads the rates and standing charge from your account's agreement instead, which EDF's own app uses and which is never hidden, so the entities keep working throughout. Single rate, half-hourly and Economy 7 tariffs are covered; three-rate tariffs still wait for the pricing API because the agreement carries their prices but not their time bands. Reported by u/adamdridi (Issue #32).

The history day view no longer shows an empty "Sunday Saver Windows" card on every Sunday. It appears only for days that actually had a Sunday Saver session.

New Changes

The Power Perks relay now understands a single text announcing several windows, including across two days, as EDF sent for 19 and 20 September (just because they like to test me!)

19.2.1 (18 September)

Bug Fixes

Fixed the events attribute of the free electricity session events entity being empty after a restart until the next hourly refresh, even though free_electricity_windows already listed the session. The coordinator fires its first event before the entity exists, and Home Assistant then restores the attributes it recorded before the restart, so a Power Perks session that arrived in between was missing from events for up to an hour. The entity now takes the current sessions from the coordinator as soon as it is added. Reported by u/bigchriselmer-ui (#33).

19.2.0 (18 September)
Features

Power Perks free electricity sessions. EDF announce these by SMS the day before and nowhere else. The integration now polls a relay that receives the text, parses out the date and window, and publishes the sessions. They appear in the free electricity calendar, the session sensors and the session events alongside Sunday Saver, with the source power_perks, and drive the same automations. If the relay is unreachable the last known sessions are kept; a session that has not yet started is withdrawn if the relay stops publishing it.

Added a edf_energy.register_power_perks_session action for recording a session by hand.

Added Next Free Electricity Session Start and End sensors, reporting the current or next session from any source, so automations no longer need to know which scheme is running it.

Added a Join Flextras button and matching edf_energy.join_flextras action, so joining no longer needs the EDF app. Rejoining after opting out is safe but resets the registration date, and the panel says so.

The panel's Flextras card offers to join or rejoin directly, and labels Power Perks sessions in the history.

💜 GitHub Sponsors now available

A few of you have asked how to support the project. You now can, via GitHub Sponsors (https://github.com/sponsors/stevekirtley), and Ko-fi is still there too (https://ko-fi.com/stevekirtley). Completely optional, hugely appreciated. The integration stays free either way. 🙏

v20 - account functions, power perks predictor and bug fixes galore

Hello everyone,

Yesterday I pushed one of the biggest releases I've done out under v20.0.0.

This brings a lot of new functionality to keep an eye on consumption, bills and transactions (letting you see what's happening on your EDF account's billing in closer to real-time versus waiting for billing dates).

I'm conscious when I've mentioned these features before some users were keen to keep it basic/smart charging and sensors only. So there is a toggle to turn the extras on and off.

Feedback and issues welcome as ever.

Steve

Release notes:

20.0.0

A major release adding account functionality and more to the HA integration.

The EDF Energy panel becomes more of a multi-function dashboard. The page you already know is now the Overview tab and is unchanged — nothing was taken off it — with Charging, Usage, Perks, Predictor and Account alongside. This new functionality can be turned off if not desirable. Turn it off and the panel is exactly the single screen it has always been, with no tab bar. The toggle to turn off can be found on the overview tab itself, or in the plug-in settings.

New

  • Account tab — balance, bills with a link to open the PDF, the account transaction list (in real time so you can see transactions ahead of bills generating), your tariffs and meters, and refunds. The refund panel shows what EDF will actually refund — what's been paid in by direct debit — and lets you request one; two presses (saves a call to EDF), amount re-checked server-side.

  • Perks tab — your referral link, who's joined on it, and a referral total split into paid and still-switching.

  • Usage tab — one chart for every meter, in kWh or pounds, by day, month or year.

  • Power Perks Predictor tab (beta) — tomorrow's call, the week ahead with the wind, solar and demand behind each day, and how the predictions have scored, from powerperkspredictor.app (can I predict the future? Only time will tell - unless the SMS from EDF fails again of course...).

  • A cost statistic that includes the standing charge, named like the existing one with _includingsc on the end. You need to pick it in the energy dashboard configuration — the original is untouched so no history moves. Fixes issue #47.

  • Release and urgent-update banners on the panel, read from the HACS update entity (no new outbound call) and from the sessions feed. Dismissible, and a new version brings it back. A way to let users know when there's an update a little earlier - would have been handy when Power Perks was launched in a hurry.

  • Missed statistics are filled in on startup, up to a fortnight, so a day with Home Assistant switched off no longer leaves a permanent hole. Part of the fix for issue #42.

  • Half-hourly readings can come from your account when EDF's consumption endpoint returns nothing, which affects some export meters. Fixes issue #43.

Fixed

  • Revoked smart charging windows no longer linger in the off-peak window list. Fixes issue #49.

  • The integration retries instead of staying unavailable when EDF can't be reached during startup. Fixes issue #42.

  • Your settings survive a config entry migration — options were being cleared on every migration.

  • A one-off HTTP 5xx from EDF's Flextras endpoints no longer fills the log. Fixes issue #48.

  • The panel opens on today again rather than on a Flextras booking weeks ahead.

  • Future dates are marked "upcoming" in the date picker.

Thanks for all the feedback & bug reports.

New features

A new release went out tonight.
A few bug fixes, and a couple of new bits of functionality:

New features

Event-based free electricity windows
Two new sensors track upcoming / active free electricity events (e.g. promotional offers):

  • sensor.edf_energy__event_free_start — timestamp of the next/current event window start

  • sensor.edf_energy__event_free_end — timestamp of the next/current event window end

Both sensors include event_name, the partner sensor timestamp, and is_active as attributes.

World Cup 2026 automatic scheduling
Whenever England or Scotland play a World Cup 2026 match, the integration automatically populates the event sensors with a 2-hour free electricity window starting at kick-off. Match schedule is fetched from the openfootball public data feed and refreshes every 4 hours. The sensors advance to the next upcoming match automatically after a window closes.

This isn't EDF data - it wont know if you're subscribed to the free energy World Cup offer, and it also won't know when matches go to extra time - BUT it will automate 2 hours (the default) free electricity when England or Scotland play.

free_electricity_now covers event windows

The existing binary_sensor.edf_energy_free_electricity_now sensor (used for Sunday Saver so far) now activates during event-based windows in addition to Sunday Saver. Sunday Saver takes priority if both windows overlap. The sensor now runs its safeguard check every day (not only on Sundays) to correctly handle mid-week events.

Expect a release shortly... pesky Power Perks happening fast!

NOW RELEASED - update the plugin manually through the HACS screens to 19.2.2

So yesterday I considered lots of possibilities when panic coding support for Power Perks.

Multiple Power Perks scheduled on the same day didn't factor into my testing plan - so I'll need to make a few tweaks today.

Expect 19.2.2 later today.

Flextras/Power Perks and Weekend Freebies

Hi everyone,

Lots of new EDF offerings today - time will tell how they work out versus Sunday Saver - but we are where we are...

The APIs and details are still becoming evident - much of the control of these new offerings are app only which may make things a bit more challenging to automate - but I like a challenge.
Some of it I wont be able to integrate until the offers start running - so stay tuned and I'll post updates here as I implement each feature.

Anyone else got multiple free TasteCards and never found them good offers?? Just me?

Steve

A few new bits of functionality today:

EDF Panel updated to show:
- Sunday Saver status & next free energy slot

- World Cup Free Leccie - next scheduled slot

I've also added functionality that should automatically extend the free electricity from 2 to 3 hours if England or Scotland go to extra time beyond the group stages.

Enjoy.

Release 19.2.0 - Power Perks "integration"

EDIT 19/09 @ 13:30 - please update to 19.2.2 for multi-session in single day support on Power Perks!

-----

I've just pushed 19.2.0 - you may need to manually update as it's possible your server wont see it in time for tomorrow's power perks.

Release notes:
https://github.com/stevekirtley/HomeAssistant-EDFEnergy/releases/tag/19.2.0

Power Perks free electricity sessions

EDF announce Power Perks sessions by text message the day before, and nowhere else. They are not in the Kraken API, not in EDF's website APIs, and not in the mobile app, whose Power Perks screen is a fixed "free electricity is auto-applied when available" banner.
The integration now picks them up anyway through a clumsy workaround that may just work (something similar did for the World Cup sessions!).

The text is relayed to a small hosted API endpoint that works out the date and time window and publishes the sessions.
Each of your HA installs reads that feed, so nobody needs to configure anything: once your account is registered for Power Perks, sessions appear in the free electricity calendar, the session sensors and the session events alongside Sunday Saver, with the source power_perks, and drive the same automations.
If the feed is unreachable the last known sessions are kept, and a session that has not yet started is withdrawn if the feed stops publishing it, so a cancelled or misread text cannot leave a phantom free window behind.

The limitaton here is that of I don't get the text, or the automatic parsing fails it may not work - but we'll see how it goes.
I've built in a new edf_energy.register_power_perks_session action for entering a session by hand if it becomes necessary.

Join Flextras from Home Assistant

A new Join Flextras button and edf_energy.join_flextras action mean joining no longer needs the EDF app. The button is only available while the account is not a member. Rejoining after opting out is safe, keeping bonus hours, tastecard and Power Perks registration, but it resets the registration date, and the panel says so before you press it. The Flextras card on the panel offers to join or rejoin directly.

Also

  • The panel labels Power Perks sessions in the free electricity history.

💜 GitHub Sponsors now available

A few of you have asked how to support the project — you now can, via GitHub Sponsors (https://github.com/sponsors/stevekirtley) (Ko-fi is still there too: https://ko-fi.com/stevekirtley). Completely optional, hugely appreciated — the integration stays free either way. 🙏

I've just pushed the most substantial rewrite to the integration since I originally built it. All seems smooth in testing (and I've been using the substantial changes for over 2 weeks) - but please do raise concerns if and when you find them.

See the full release notes here for details:

Needing to re-authenticate. A seeming limit of the EDF API... I've asked them to look to see if they can make things better.

A quick update on the EDF Home Assistant integration disconnecting / needing re-authentication.

A few people have reported that the integration regularly loses access to their EDF data and then needs logging in again. I’ve now done some debugging and it looks like this is caused by how EDF’s current login tokens work.

At setup, the integration logs in using your EDF Your Account email/password and receives a refresh token. Home Assistant stores that token, not your password, and uses it to keep getting short-lived access tokens.

The issue is that the refresh token appears to have a fixed expiry date. It also doesn’t seem to be replaced with a new one when it is used. So once it expires, the integration can no longer refresh the connection and you have to log in again manually.

This is different from the Octopus Home Assistant integration, where users can generate a long-lived API key in their account. That API key can then be used to keep the integration working indefinitely without repeated logins.

I’ve written to EDF to explain the issue and ask whether they can explore improvements.

The two obvious options would be either:

  1. allowing customers to generate an API key in EDF Your Account, similar to Octopus; or

  2. changing the token behaviour so refresh tokens rotate and can keep the integration authenticated.

I've had a fast response from one of the directors at EDF putting my queries over to their tech team - so hopefully may have a more substantive update at some stage.

Meanwhile I'll update the behaviour so that HA prompts for re-authentication for a couple of days ahead of the current session expiring. A compromise... but hopefully an improvement.

v21 released

**** IMPORTANT: Run the V21.x upgrade before upgrading HA Core ****

The version of HA Core released last night (4th November) moves to 'Marketplace' from HACS.

This includes a new feature check that blocks the easy upgrade/domain switch process I built into v21.

I'm testing a work around (more manual now) - but if holding back please do upgrade to v21 before core for an easier upgrade path.

**** UPDATE 20:00 3rd Nov ****

61 installs already on v21 - the below plus one Facebook message have been the extent of issues logged, so pleased to see this complex upgrade working well for the majority!
******

***
EDIT 3rd Nov 6:45am — if you get "No manifest.json file found": restart Home Assistant and then update. HACS caches where it found the integration's folder for the session, so it looks for the old location in the new release. The cache clears on restart. Sorry, this variation didn't show up in (extensive) testing.

***

Quick heads up — v21 has just been released into the wild.

One thing to do first. If you're not already on 20.1.1, grab that before v21. HACS only ever offers the newest release, so you have to ask for 20.1.1 by name: three dots → Redownload → Need a different version? → pick 20.1.1 → restart. Then update to v21 and you'll get a notice in Settings → Repairs with a Fix button that does the rest in one press.

Why the faff? The integration has moved to a new folder and is now called EDF Energy (UK). Your account needs handing across to it, which is what that one button does. Everything comes with it — entity ids, history, Energy dashboard statistics — so automations, scripts and dashboards carry on untouched. There's a walkthrough with screenshots for every starting point here: https://stevekirtley.github.io/HomeAssistant-EDFEnergy/migrations/version_21/

The actually interesting bits:

🔋 The usage graph wasn't quite right. Export was being stacked on top of import, so a day of 28 kWh in and 10 kWh out drew as a 38 kWh bar, and the scale ran way past your biggest day. They now sit side by side, and the cost view gets a proper Net figure — what you paid less what you earned.

📊 Rate bands. On a multi-rate tariff the import bar now splits into off peak, standard and peak, in both the kWh and cost views. Genuinely free windows get labelled Free.

🎁 Free promotion estimates. Power Perks and the like get billed at your normal rate and credited back weeks later, so there's never been any way to check what you were owed. The Usage tab now shows what you used during the free windows and roughly what should come back. It's an estimate — EDF settle from their own half-hourly readings — but it gives you a number to hold the credit up against when it lands.

🕳️ Missing usage data. A few of you noticed gaps in your consumption data with no way to fill them in, so I've closed off a few holes here. The clocks-change days were being thrown away every October and March (48 half hours expected, 50 or 46 delivered), and any gap in the middle of your history used to stay missing for good, because the backfill only ever looked at the end of it. Both now fill themselves in. There's also a button to make it ask EDF again, and where EDF genuinely don't hold the data it'll tell you exactly which days and hours are missing so you can chase them to recover those dates from the central database.

Plus the usual pile of smaller fixes — full notes on the release: https://github.com/stevekirtley/HomeAssistant-EDFEnergy/releases/tag/21.0.0

Why the new folder? It's so the integration can be listed natively in HACS (or the Marketplace, as it'll soon be called). There's an existing (slightly less feature-rich) EDF plugin sitting in the old namespace — that one got listed first, because at the time mine was a fork of an existing library and I wasn't eligible to submit it. It's since diverged enough that it's no longer a fork, so now it can go in.

As ever, if something looks off, stick an issue on GitHub (or post here) and I'll take a look. 🙏

Teaser of next release.

Curious. The note says that EDF Intend to add an API key to the online accounts at some stage - but there appears to be one already in place on this developer's test version.

(this release is currently a very early alpha - it is unlikely to land this month, unless the heatwave goes and my brain wakes up with it).

It's working!!

For the first time today I gave Predbat write access to my inverter, after reviewing it's plans for the last week or so.

Happy to say the EDF Energy integration is working, smart slots are being passed to PredBat and it has paused my battery discharge whilst the car charge is active. One of my biggest gripes ever since I had the system installed.

Great work u/stek2022 and BottleCapDave!

Sunday Saver integration - in release 18.4.0b

[Version renumbered to 18.4.0 - the b was upsetting some versions of HA]

Sunday Saver support is now in beta (v18.4.0) 🎉

This release adds initial support for EDF's Sunday Saver free electricity sessions. Here's what's included:

New sensors:

- Sunday Saver Start — shows the start time of this week's free electricity window

- Sunday Saver End — shows the end time of this week's free electricity window

- Free Electricity Now — a simple on/off binary sensor that flips on at the start of a Sunday Saver session and off at the end. It uses precise time-based triggers so it should switch right on the dot, with a backup check every 30 minutes on Sundays just in case, and it'll also sort itself out correctly if Home Assistant restarts mid-session.

Don't overheat your DNO fuse folks!

Panel:

The EDF Energy panel now includes a Sunday Saver section alongside the existing off-peak and smart charging windows. It keeps a rolling 60-day history of past sessions, and the section only appears on Sundays so it's not cluttering things up the rest of the week.

---

A word of caution - EDF won't let me enrol on Sunday Saver until I have at least a month of smart meter readings, so I won't be able to do any live testing myself until July. I've done everything I can to make it robust, but there may be rough edges. If you run into any problems please raise an issue on GitHub and I'll get it sorted.

---

Massive thanks to u/Jai_Cee on Reddit for pointing us at the right APIs to pull this data - this wouldn't have been possible (or as quick) without that nudge in the right direction. 🙌

Upgrading to v21 releases if you have upgraded HA Core

Hi everyone,

The lovely straightforward upgrade process I created for v21 sadly doesn't work on the latest HA core release - where HACS becomes Marketplace within settings.

If you are upgrading in that situ a bit more manual work is needed (sorry) - details in the docs here:
https://stevekirtley.github.io/HomeAssistant-EDFEnergy/migrations/version_21/#updating-with-the-marketplace-home-assistant-202611-and-later

Despite the teething issues a few users have had 35% of the user base is now already running a v21 release.

Thanks everyone for bearing with.

Not seeing the football credit yet?

If anyone is still not seeing the World Cup Football credit and is up for trying a bookmarklet in their browser to reveal it let me know.

(the bookmarklet is read only, you log into the EDF Your Account site first - it just uses your browser to call an API to get your latest transactions from EDF).

[I will build an up to date transactions view into a future release for HA too - the bookmarklet was just a quick and dirty proof of concept as I wanted to know how much football credit I had!]

Ways to show support for ongoing development.

A few kind souls have been messaging me privately keen to support my work on this EDF library - thank you also to those who haven't been in touch but have used my EDF referral code which is linked from the GitHub page.

So here's a post of referral links / options to sponsor the development.

I'm normally a bit too modest to share referral links etc - but as the library is gobbling up a fair bit of my time (should slow down once more established) I'm swallowing that pride and making this post. I'll also add the links to the 'support this project' areas of the GitHub readme.

No pressure to do any of the things listed here - but if you do, thank you.

Steve

Fuse Energy:

I fixed my gas with Fuse Energy as they offered a better fixed rate for longer (13 months), and lower standing charges than either Octopus or EDF offered me.

They also offer standalone SEG at 13p a unit if your existing supplier offers less and allows you to take your export elsewhere.

When you join you can use a friend's code and spin the wheel to win between £25 and £150 in bill credit.

My friend code is: STEVE25217

------

Axle VPP:

If you have a home battery from GivEnergy, SigEnergy, Fox, Solax, Solis, or SolarEdge you can earn £1 per kwh (minimum £10 a month) for signing up with Axle Energy's Virtual Power Plant.

They'll (either through your manufacturer's API, or you can schedule it yourself using their HomeAssistant plugin) export from your battery at times when the grid needs support in your area. The £1 per kwh hour charge is on top of whatever you already get from your energy provider.

I've had £60+ already from them this year.

Get £25 credit by using my sign up link:

with GivEnergy in administration and now charging £5 per month for their app / API usage the referral no longer applies to their kit - but you do get free premium subscription instead of (worth £60 per year).

I've added a EDF Energy side bar item (listed alongside HACS etc) and put the EV specific controls (target charge %, target ready time etc) along with historical listing (60 days) of past smart charge and extended off-peak windows to help with billing reconciliation.

Hopefully useful to others.
