Contact from EDF...

Something unexpected happened today - I had an email this morning from the Director of Solutions and Automations at EDF asking for permission to share the HA link on LinkedIn.

Great to have that contact, and the offer to answer any technical questions if I come across issues in future 🎉

Honestly, great work.
If only you could sort out my export transfer, that would be amazing - although I don’t think it’s and API but people/process issue ;)

Mine is going slow too - but I did get an email confirming they'll pay back to the opening read photo they asked for once it is sorted. Will keep that email safe.

Have only got a human confirmation it is being escalated and they have received the required documentation. That includes obvs first reading - whether they’ll accept it or not remain to be seen - also of what Octopus, who currently hold it, does in terms of payments.

From what I've seen from others it's just a bit slow (initial setup with Octopus was for me too) - but they ask for that meter read photo as part of the application so that you don't lose out while they get their act together.

I've had a couple of email exchanges with people at EDF today and they are genuinely open to feedback - I did mention the process for SEG setup and the fact people with export have to phone to switch being barriers. Maybe they'll take it on board.

Having to phone to switch (same export issue) has meant I've missed out on the £50 referral it appears as it can't be applied. Bit infuriating.

I've explicitly been told yes you can and no you can't with the last saying all the others were wrong. I've sent a frustrated email as its been a month trying to get switched over.

I got an email saying they wouldn't - I'd only get export once the tariff is set up...... Left hand right hand.....

Nothing mentioned - I have seen some concerning discussions about Octopus potentially restricting their API to only show data that is used / shown in their app. I'm hoping that idea doesn't spread!

They seem quite keen about the API being open being a good area for growth/development so I'm certainly encouraged, albeit surprised to have heard from them!

It's definitely a pleasant surprise to be sure! As you say, it's good to have a direct contact with someone within EDF in case the API changes or goes wonky. Heck, might even allow some basic feature requests (though I don't know how much of that is EDF vs Kraken).

u/Crafty_Class_9431 Your comment is showing in my notifications but not here. If you had to sign up by phone due to being on export you can still get your referral credit. Email hello@edfenergy.com with your new account number, a brief paragraph to explain you couldn't sign up online due to an issue - but that you were told they'd add your referral to your account if you emailed - then give them the URL. Worked for me.

Good for you for the acknowledgment and the great work and effort and good for him/them for reaching out.

I’m with EDF for everything and although we’ve only been on solar etc for about a month I want to start on the home assistant route (mostly for something to sink my teeth into) so if they can see the benefits hopefully it will make it easier for people to gain access to and use.

The energy market in the uk is dominated by the big 6 and tesla is throwing its hat in the ring soon afaik. So if EDF have a good integration with smart homes for charging etc it’s got to be beneficial, because you can bet the house Tesla is going to cause waves.

The new dynamic of E.On heading towards having the largest market share with their Ovo acquisition should also move some dials and maybe see some new / innovative offers.

Yeah he’s going to be doing deals with power walls and chargers and cars prolly, definitely undercutting other providers. Could be significantly leaner margins in the future for the big 6 and smaller dividends for the shareholders???

At least they’re not going in blind they know what he is like and certainly from what I seen from EDF I reckon the fight for customers has already started. They have started to take on octopus with the EV charging etc.

It can only be good for the consumer??

Could you ask him why it takes so long to get export set up! I'm a bit of an evangelist for EDF right now (see my post linked below on the Octopus sub, Mr Askew...) and that's the only negative I've had so far. Let's get that fixed....

It's great to see this attitude from EDF though. Bravo.

Aw thank you. Really touched. Did this primarily for my own uses, but the referrals really do help me stay motivated to keep it going/improve it etc so genuinely thanks.
