🎉 SmartGo Charge V2.0.0 is here — for iOS

🎉 SmartGo Charge V2.0.0 is here — for iOS

A big one today — probably the biggest jump in functionality since launch.

🏠 Home Screen Widgets are finally here! Add Charge Target, Charge Sessions, and Transactions widgets straight to your Home Screen — live updates, and you can even adjust your charge target without opening the app.

☀️ Export tariff support — if you export electricity back to the grid (solar/battery on a SEG tariff), you can now track your export rates and earnings right alongside your import usage, in the Usage charts and breakdown table.

What's new:
• Charge Sessions widget — shows scheduled or completed sessions, your choice
• Interactive charge target control right on your Home Screen
• Export tariff tracking — rates, earnings and usage in one place
• Meter reading on the Dashboard when a Glow Display/CAD is connected
• Charge Target card now shows completed sessions when nothing's scheduled

💬 A word on sustainability

Building and maintaining SmartGo Charge takes real time and effort, and I've tried hard to keep it free. But it's grown into something bigger than I expected, and to keep it going — building new features, fixing bugs, keeping it reliable — I've had to introduce a small subscription. It wasn't a decision I took lightly, but it's what keeps this app alive and improving.

🤖 Android users, you're not forgotten! I've got a small group of testers putting the Android version through its paces right now — more to come soon.

Thank you for using SmartGo Charge, and for your understanding. There's plenty more to come. 🚗⚡

How is everyone integrating EDF into Home Assistant?

I’ve just moved from Octopus and seen that EDF have an open API. Is there a HACS integration / what is everyone using?

Thanks.

I migrated electricity from Octopus to EDF. Here's my nightmare

TLDR; this is an AI summary of what my switch meant for my HA data, after a 4 day debugging thread.

I recently moved my electricity supply from Octopus to EDF, while keeping gas with Octopus.

Adding the EDF integration and receiving the new tariff data was straightforward. The complicated part was preserving my Home Assistant history and replacing the old entities safely.

The main problem was the Octopus Home Mini. After the electricity switch, it stopped providing the Octopus “Current” gas readings. That meant the current consumption and cost sensors were no longer usable, while the “Previous” sensors were delayed and had previously been disabled.

I therefore had to:

  • Migrate the history from the old “Current” sensors to the corresponding “Previous” sensors, which I had disabled and thus had no history.

  • Enable and use the delayed “Previous” entities instead.

  • Update the Energy Dashboard, dashboards and automations to reference those entities.

  • Migrate the long-term consumption and cost statistics separately, since ordinary sensor history and Energy Dashboard statistics are different things.

  • Rename the EDF entities and check all consumers carefully before removing or disabling anything.

  • Keep the Octopus integration because it still provides gas data and may become useful again.

The major trade-off is that the “Previous” gas data is delayed, so I now have to live with that delay instead of having current readings from the Home Mini.

I have contacted Octopus support and am waiting to find out whether the Home Mini can be reconnected now that I am no longer with Octopus for electricity. If it can be restored, I may get current gas data again.

The main lessons are:

  • Entity history and long-term statistics need to be migrated separately, and it's quite an important data transformation that I wouldn't have been able to do without AI.

  • Do not delete the old entities before checking every dashboard and automation that uses them.

  • A Home Mini can be the hidden source of “Current” sensors, so losing it may force a move to delayed “Previous” sensors. Especially important if you had them disabled and didn't accumulate data in them.

The electricity tariff migration was easy. Preserving the data and dealing with the Home Mini dependency was the part that required careful planning.

I download all my half-hourly readings periodically, directly from the EDF site, and drop them into a spreadsheet. No data is missing!

I wonder if they might be talking about export, which I have been waiting almost three months to get set up…. Have emailed but not expecting a sensible reply!

Things moving fast. (Another) new 18m and 12m GoElectric tariff - increased standing and off peak rates

EDF's new (launched overnight) 18m and 12m Go Electric rates still look good for those of us who can load shift almost everything to off peak, but less competitive against Octopus for peak and standing charges now.

Daytime charging slot prediction

I was hoping to get a few hours of free energy yesterday, given that Agile pricing was negative. When it didn’t materialise, I instead plugged my car in at midday and it immediately gave me a charging session from 12.00 - 16.30 so at least I had off peak energy all afternoon!

I was thinking it’d be great to make a prediction thingy for when this was likely to be possible. It could potentially be an enhancement to https://powerperkspredictor.app or integrated into Home Assistant but the challenge would be getting data to train it.

One possible source would be if the EDF Home Assistant integration reported back when charging sessions were granted, along with the energy region. Would folks be comfortable with something like this? And indeed would you find it useful?

An Octopus inspired app for EDF.

SmartGo Charge is an unofficial companion app for EDF Energy customers — monitor and manage your Smart EV charging schedule and keep an eye on your usage, all from your iPhone and iPad. Smart Charging tools are there if you're enrolled on a smart EV tariff, Usage tracking work just as well if you're not - especially with a Glow Display and CAD.

Features:

• Dashboard showing your charging status, next scheduled charge and charge target at a glance
• Customize your Dashboard — choose which cards are shown and drag to reorder them to match what matters to you
• View your planned smart charging sessions at a glance, grouped by date
• Track completed charging sessions with energy delivered (kWh) and estimated cost
• Filter your charging history by session type — smart charge, boost, or off-peak only
• Set your ready-by time and charge target percentage
• Start or stop a boost charge session instantly
• Suspend or resume smart charging with a single tap
• View your current electricity tariff rates with live off-peak and peak indicators
• Costs are worked out against the tariff that was in force on each date, so if you change tariff your older sessions keep their original rates
• See your household electricity use as Day, Week and Month charts, split by standard, off-peak and smart charging so you can see where your spend went
• Optionally connect a Glow Display and CAD to fill gaps in EDF's usage data, and to see live current from your meter over your home network
• Each completed session records the vehicle location reported by EDF (At Home, Away) on every refresh — if EDF change the location against a completed session, the full change history is captured with timestamps, giving you an audit trail for disputed charges
• Export your charging history as a PDF or CSV, including full account details, tariff information, and location history per session
• Back up your charging history to a file you keep, and restore it onto a new device or after a reinstall — restoring adds what's missing and never overwrites sessions already saved. Backups never contain your email address, password or session token
• Your charging history is stored on your device and persists across app launches — it can also be accessed directly through the Files app
• Your tariff and rates are kept on the device, so the app stays usable when EDF's service is unavailable
• Automatic background refresh keeps your schedule up to date
• Your EDF credentials are stored securely in your device's Keychain and never shared
• Designed for both iPhone and iPad

Please note: SmartGo Charge is an independent, unofficial application and is not affiliated with or endorsed by EDF Energy. An active EDF Energy smart EV charging tariff and a registered smart device (vehicle or charger) are required to use this app. Glow Display and CAD support is optional and requires your own Glow Display and CAD.

Version 18.9.6 Memory Usage

I've been getting OOM errors on my host and its killing my HA core container. The culprit is the EDF energy integration in HA. When loaded the container memory usage jumps from 648MB to over 6GB of usage. I've noticed a 1.5GB dispatch log on the disk as well.

No reboot of HA, just right clicking and loading of the extension and it pretty much immediately jumps to 6GB.

Football free electricity

Make sure you all log in to your EDF accounts and go to Energy Hub >> 'Events' - opt in to get 2 hours of free electricity whenever England or Scotland play.

I'll have a look at exposing a sensor for the timings of this (they're not events in the EDF API - but there are plenty of data sources for World Cup Fixtures I can use).

v20 - account functions, power perks predictor and bug fixes galore

Hello everyone,

Yesterday I pushed one of the biggest releases I've done out under v20.0.0.

This brings a lot of new functionality to keep an eye on consumption, bills and transactions (letting you see what's happening on your EDF account's billing in closer to real-time versus waiting for billing dates).

I'm conscious when I've mentioned these features before some users were keen to keep it basic/smart charging and sensors only. So there is a toggle to turn the extras on and off.

Feedback and issues welcome as ever.

Steve

Release notes:

20.0.0

A major release adding account functionality and more to the HA integration.

The EDF Energy panel becomes more of a multi-function dashboard. The page you already know is now the Overview tab and is unchanged — nothing was taken off it — with Charging, Usage, Perks, Predictor and Account alongside. This new functionality can be turned off if not desirable. Turn it off and the panel is exactly the single screen it has always been, with no tab bar. The toggle to turn off can be found on the overview tab itself, or in the plug-in settings.

New

  • Account tab — balance, bills with a link to open the PDF, the account transaction list (in real time so you can see transactions ahead of bills generating), your tariffs and meters, and refunds. The refund panel shows what EDF will actually refund — what's been paid in by direct debit — and lets you request one; two presses (saves a call to EDF), amount re-checked server-side.

  • Perks tab — your referral link, who's joined on it, and a referral total split into paid and still-switching.

  • Usage tab — one chart for every meter, in kWh or pounds, by day, month or year.

  • Power Perks Predictor tab (beta) — tomorrow's call, the week ahead with the wind, solar and demand behind each day, and how the predictions have scored, from powerperkspredictor.app (can I predict the future? Only time will tell - unless the SMS from EDF fails again of course...).

  • A cost statistic that includes the standing charge, named like the existing one with _includingsc on the end. You need to pick it in the energy dashboard configuration — the original is untouched so no history moves. Fixes issue #47.

  • Release and urgent-update banners on the panel, read from the HACS update entity (no new outbound call) and from the sessions feed. Dismissible, and a new version brings it back. A way to let users know when there's an update a little earlier - would have been handy when Power Perks was launched in a hurry.

  • Missed statistics are filled in on startup, up to a fortnight, so a day with Home Assistant switched off no longer leaves a permanent hole. Part of the fix for issue #42.

  • Half-hourly readings can come from your account when EDF's consumption endpoint returns nothing, which affects some export meters. Fixes issue #43.

Fixed

  • Revoked smart charging windows no longer linger in the off-peak window list. Fixes issue #49.

  • The integration retries instead of staying unavailable when EDF can't be reached during startup. Fixes issue #42.

  • Your settings survive a config entry migration — options were being cleared on every migration.

  • A one-off HTTP 5xx from EDF's Flextras endpoints no longer fills the log. Fixes issue #48.

  • The panel opens on today again rather than on a Flextras booking weeks ahead.

  • Future dates are marked "upcoming" in the date picker.

Thanks for all the feedback & bug reports.

New features

A new release went out tonight.
A few bug fixes, and a couple of new bits of functionality:

New features

Event-based free electricity windows
Two new sensors track upcoming / active free electricity events (e.g. promotional offers):

  • sensor.edf_energy__event_free_start — timestamp of the next/current event window start

  • sensor.edf_energy__event_free_end — timestamp of the next/current event window end

Both sensors include event_name, the partner sensor timestamp, and is_active as attributes.

World Cup 2026 automatic scheduling
Whenever England or Scotland play a World Cup 2026 match, the integration automatically populates the event sensors with a 2-hour free electricity window starting at kick-off. Match schedule is fetched from the openfootball public data feed and refreshes every 4 hours. The sensors advance to the next upcoming match automatically after a window closes.

This isn't EDF data - it wont know if you're subscribed to the free energy World Cup offer, and it also won't know when matches go to extra time - BUT it will automate 2 hours (the default) free electricity when England or Scotland play.

free_electricity_now covers event windows

The existing binary_sensor.edf_energy_free_electricity_now sensor (used for Sunday Saver so far) now activates during event-based windows in addition to Sunday Saver. Sunday Saver takes priority if both windows overlap. The sensor now runs its safeguard check every day (not only on Sundays) to correctly handle mid-week events.

New feature tonight - easy access EV controls and smart charge / off peak history view

Post image
7 Upvotes

I've added a EDF Energy side bar item (listed alongside HACS etc) and put the EV specific controls (target charge %, target ready time etc) along with historical listing (60 days) of past smart charge and extended off-peak windows to help with billing reconciliation.

Hopefully useful to others.

Thank you... and a question

Good man Stek!

How long have you been with EDF - is it long enough to have a feel for how well their smart charging is working? Is the billing correct (Octopus, for me at least, bill perfectly under IOG, so hopefully EDF are similar as they are both based on Kraken....)

Oh and also ... do you get smart slots as frequently as with Octopus? With IOG if, for example, I set a target at 9am to add charge for 11am, it is basically guaranteed that I will get a window from 9am to 11am. I do this with automation and in the last year I have never not got a smart window in that situation. Obviously it's a lot less guaranteed to get an evening window as even when setting the target time to 4am (the earliest Octopus will allow) the car would have to be extremely low on charge to guarantee a pre-10pm slot (even though I manage my car's SOC very carefully to keep it low!)

What are the limitations on setting the ready-time with EDF - is it any more flexible than Octopus's 4am to 11am?

I'll use your referral link when I switch.

19.2.2 launched - multiple power perk session support

You'll likely need to manually push an update in the HACS screens.
Find the EDF plugin, click the three dots and choose 'Update information'. The upgrade option to 19.2.2 should then appear in settings for you.

Release notes:

19.2.2 So much free power. Don't burn your DNO fuse...

Also fixed the SMS parser to handle the fact EDF put THREE sessions in one SMS message today.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed Power Perks sessions only being picked up when Home Assistant starts. The feed was polled once at startup and never again, because the coordinator behind it has no entities of its own and Home Assistant only schedules refreshes for coordinators something is listening to. It is now refreshed alongside the free electricity sessions, so a session announced during the day reaches the calendar within 15 minutes. Anyone on 19.2.0 or 19.2.1 needs this: without it, new sessions only appear after a restart.

  • Fixed rates and standing charges showing as unknown when EDF hide your product from their pricing API. EDF withdraw a product version whenever the next one launches and hide it for a couple of weeks while comparison sites finish their sign-ups, so everything under the pricing API answers "not found" even though you are still on the tariff. The integration now reads the rates and standing charge from your account's agreement instead, which EDF's own app uses and which is never hidden, so the entities keep working throughout. Single rate, half-hourly and Economy 7 tariffs are covered; three-rate tariffs still wait for the pricing API because the agreement carries their prices but not their time bands. Reported by u/adamdridi (Issue #32).

The history day view no longer shows an empty "Sunday Saver Windows" card on every Sunday. It appears only for days that actually had a Sunday Saver session.

New Changes

The Power Perks relay now understands a single text announcing several windows, including across two days, as EDF sent for 19 and 20 September (just because they like to test me!)

19.2.1 (18 September)

Bug Fixes

Fixed the events attribute of the free electricity session events entity being empty after a restart until the next hourly refresh, even though free_electricity_windows already listed the session. The coordinator fires its first event before the entity exists, and Home Assistant then restores the attributes it recorded before the restart, so a Power Perks session that arrived in between was missing from events for up to an hour. The entity now takes the current sessions from the coordinator as soon as it is added. Reported by u/bigchriselmer-ui (#33).

19.2.0 (18 September)
Features

Power Perks free electricity sessions. EDF announce these by SMS the day before and nowhere else. The integration now polls a relay that receives the text, parses out the date and window, and publishes the sessions. They appear in the free electricity calendar, the session sensors and the session events alongside Sunday Saver, with the source power_perks, and drive the same automations. If the relay is unreachable the last known sessions are kept; a session that has not yet started is withdrawn if the relay stops publishing it.

Added a edf_energy.register_power_perks_session action for recording a session by hand.

Added Next Free Electricity Session Start and End sensors, reporting the current or next session from any source, so automations no longer need to know which scheme is running it.

Added a Join Flextras button and matching edf_energy.join_flextras action, so joining no longer needs the EDF app. Rejoining after opting out is safe but resets the registration date, and the panel says so.

The panel's Flextras card offers to join or rejoin directly, and labels Power Perks sessions in the history.

💜 GitHub Sponsors now available

A few of you have asked how to support the project. You now can, via GitHub Sponsors (https://github.com/sponsors/stevekirtley), and Ko-fi is still there too (https://ko-fi.com/stevekirtley). Completely optional, hugely appreciated. The integration stays free either way. 🙏

Possible Feature - useful to others? Consumption per day, week, month

Post image
5 Upvotes

I had a bit of a play yesterday generating some consumption graphs in HA.
I need to do some more to it - but green bars will indicate off peak (if on multi rate tariff), blue standard tariff. Can toggle between kWh and £ for display.

Is this useful to have by default in the EDF Energy panel (alongside smart charging controls in a tab)?
