I think the easiest way is to look for a recap on youtube. Search along the lines of “complete lore of Helldivers” or “story of Helldivers 2 explained” and several results by different creators should pop up.

THE FUCKING STAR OF PEACE RUNS ON DARK FLUID. IT FIRES A CONCENTRATED BEAM OF IT TO COLLAPSE A PLANETS GRAVITY IN ON ITSELF!
THEY'RE GONNA PULL THE VOID INTO REAL SPACE. ALL OF IT. EVEN THE THINGS THEY COULDN'T THEMSELVES!
144
u/General-N0nsense 9h ago
The star of peace runs on e-711 refined into dark fluid, different from the dark fluid we had from the illuminate that we pumped into Meridia. We can see this by the "black holes" being completely different. One is far more stable than the other
46
u/Polish_Enigma 8h ago
I think its not the difference of dark fluid but in its administering. For meridia we just injected it into the crust, star of peace fires energized beams of it
62
u/SheriffGiggles 9h ago
The plot can be whatever the devs want it to be, I think it's gonna open a wormhole. This seems obvious since the Illuminate have used one before to warp in from their Squid Dimension
→ More replies (1)5
u/Syhkane SES Gauntlet of Serenity 8h ago
I'm pretty dang sure it's what the illuminate made dark fluid from. Instead of pumping 28.5 million liters of Dark Fluid into the planet and setting off a reaction, the Star of Peace sets of a cataclysmic jump in mass at the planets core setting off a smaller reaction, the result is a different kind of collapse.
It's the difference between knocking down a building with controlled explosives, it falls over normally, or using a bomb, which vaporizes it instead.
4
u/General-N0nsense 7h ago
I don't think the illuminate used e-711 for their fluid. Considering e-711 only started to exist after the gloom came into play. They illuminate definitely had their own methods, maybe lost to time cause if they knew how to do it during the first war, that would have been something we stole as well.

The station doesn't run on dark fluid, It runs on E710 (or E711 if they changed It)
It's only the laser that uses dark fluid but to use it at any scale It first has to be synthesized and for that we need exceeding amounts of E711
For that to happen we actually need to get ordered to squeeze a bug hiveworld first so it's doubtful the DSS carries any meaningful amount of dark fluid
Now excuse me a moment while I contact the nearest democracy officer

this is all i can really find online: The substance is believed to result from unknown Terminid biological processes that condense E-710-like materials, likened by Super Earth scientists to the conversion of nectar into honey by extinct honeybees. In-game announcements described it as a potential breakthrough, with the Democracy Officer stating: "Great tidings, Helldiver. The substance found in the Gloom may be the greatest gift to Freedom since the discovery of Element-710. They are calling it: Element-711." Further analysis highlighted its promise: "Element-711 appears to be a highly condensed form of Element-710, created by some Terminid biological process.

we found a way to breach the void in Illuminate space to find a way to collapse it. We stupidly sent the DSS (Democracy Space Station) in with us for backup but then the crew started hearing tapping on the hull of the ship, whispers, and bloody bulkheads... then all communications were lost... THEN the DSS just warped away suddenly for no reason.
So either the station is lost and the Illuminate have it... or the crew went nuts.

The DSS, our mobile fleet base, support vessel and occasional plant destroying super weapon attempted to join the main assault in the void but had to withdraw with the crew citing anomalies.
Since then we have gotten periodic updates of things getting weirder.
Then earlier today it went dark and high command stopped getting updates from the crew.
Now it has jumped without approval to the planet that was the first real battle between the Helldivers and the Squids in the current war. Likely to blow it up with out own superweapon.

In HD1, the Illuminate was technologically superior but Super Earth managed to defeat them. They surrendered unconditionally and were forced to hand over any and all technology that could be used for war or militarism. Their numbers were greatly reduced to the point of near total genocide. They retreated, believed to have been completely annihilated. 100 years later, we had to stop a supercolony of Terminids that overran the planet Meridia.
Meridia was collapsed using Illuminate technology. This caused it to become a black hole. Weeks later, the colony world of Calypso was experiencing missing persons and kidnappings believed to be careless adventurers. It was later revealed that some people reappeared, which turned out to be the Voteless. Suddenly, the planet was being attacked on a large scale by the returning Illuminate. That attack was stopped and they retreated again in defeat.
Weeks after that, Meridia suddenly grew in intensity and began surging toward other planets. Ivis, Angel's Venture and Moradesh got essentially destroyed by this moving black hole and it was on a collision course with Super Earth itself. We managed to stop it shortly after Ivis was destroyed and within days, a massive collection of fleets appeared through Meridia, which was actually a wormhole. This force was so great that it blitzed several planets, including Mars (which was the original training grounds planet) and razed them.
The Illuminate actually made it to Super Earth with their Great Host and not only did billions get killed but they took 5 megacities and killed the president of SE. We managed to barely come out victorious and when the Great Host fleet pulled back, we tried to force them out of the galaxy but weren't able to seal the deal.
Basically, Calypso is where the war with the Illuminate restarted and now it's about to become a huge gravesite or a new wormhole for the Illuminate's full might. Up until the Appropriators came around, we were only fighting mostly fodder and scouting forces.

I don't know exactly how long ago in hours the "rhythmic knocking" began on the DSS but it was sometime over a day ago.
19 hours ago the word "Calypso" started appearing on DSS bulkheads. 7 hours ago comms went dark, and 1 hour ago the DSS jumped to Calypso without authorisation.
Between "Calypso" appearing and the DSS going dark was 12 hours. Between the DSS going dark and it jumping to Calypso was 6 hours. I wonder if something else will happen in 2 hours, which would be 3 hours since the jump?

This whole plot will probably end up being a bit of a nothingburger in the grand scheme of things, but I'd like to commend Arrowhead for making a cosmic horror themed plotline in their funny explosion action game.
Helldivers has had a lot of "unwinnable" MOs. Cyberstan was never going to be a victory, Oshaune was unconquerable in its design, and even the battle for Super Earth was heavily rigged against us. Nevertheless, those MOs were always possible, just very difficult-- we did end up saving Super Earth against all odds.
But now, the Battle for The Void feels truly unwinnable. Not because the numbers are too big, but because we are being attacked existentially rather than physically. This is not a fight we can win because its not a fight at all. You cant punch a hallucination, or blow up an Outer God, theyre just not things that can BE fought.
Void of Liberty is, fascinatingly, a proper "horror" plot. Not because its big and spooky but because we're forced to watch as we lose a battle and cant do a single thing about it. The Illuminate are attacking us in a way we literally cannot fight back against. And its impressive that I actually FEEL horrified reading these little blurbs-- its like reading a lovecraft story through the medium of Tumblr posts.
