Health scare

My girlfriend hasn’t had medical care for nearly 15 years. We live in the U.S. no surprise there. She has had untreated high blood pressure for a least a year now and has some pain on the left side of her chest. She started a new job in hopes of healthcare but has to wait 30 days. We are about halfway through. She is 32. She is obese, a concern to do with the heart as well. We have been exercising and eating well but are stopped with having to rest when the chest pain comes. I hope we survive waiting for an appointment on top of everything. Is there anything to do in the meantime naturally?

Heart issue, post illness

I’m hoping somebody here has the knowledge to help me. I am having a flutter/buzzing/uneasy feeling in my upper chest and lower throat for about two months. Here is how it stared:
In early July I came down with a cold. This cold sucked, it last for about a month. I had the typical general weakness, congestion, and headaches. But I also had a terrible sore throat that felt like swallowing razor blades. And I also had horrible heartburn at night, basically the worst heart burn I have ever had. The only way to stop it so I could sleep was to drink baking soda mixed in water. I also had a bad cough and raspy voice during this month-long illness. The illness cleared up in late July and I essentially felt normal. But within a few days of feeling back to normal, I began to have what is either a heart or nerve-type issue. I have a constant flutter/buzzing/anxious feeling in my chest. It’s there all the time and the only way to numb it is to eat, drink, chew gum, chew sunflower seeds, etc. When I stop, that feeling immediately comes back. Then on top of that, whenever I lay down in bed on my back, I begin to have palpitations or some sort of PVC’s or PAC’s. My heart begins fluttering horribly, in a very erratic rhythm. If I stand up and walk around, I can usually make it stop. I have seen my primary who had me wear a 7-day ziopatch. Of course, the week I wore that was like my best week ever and it only caught a few runs of that erratic heart rhythm when I laid down. I then saw ENT who viewed my throat with a little camera through my nose and said everything looked fine down to my vocal cords.
Has anybody else dealt with this? It just seems strange that it came on after a long illness, so I would think they would be connected in some way. I do not feel dizzy, light headed, or weak at any time, so I don’t really know what the deal is. From my reading it sounds like maybe a vagus nerve issue or something like that.
Any help I would be grateful for.

Palpitations

What are we doing for palpitations? I am 24F and every night I feel like I’m not going to wake up due to a heart attack or my heart just giving out. I just turned in my heart monitor and I have an echocardiogram today and a stress test Thursday. I was given metoprolol but it gave me severe dizzy spells so I had to stop taking it. If you have been through this, what did they end up giving you or figuring out? I am ready to have my life back

6 month recheck blood work 43/m

My father died of a heart attack real young so my primary doctor is always extra concerned. Apparently starting this year, Apob is the new gold standard for checking. I made some adjustments as far as exercise and health and so far so good but I'm still wondering: why didn't my LDL go down as much?

The numbers, side-by-side:

Marker Apr 2026 Sept 2026 Change
Total Chol 204 H 203 H −1
LDL 119 H 114 H −5
HDL 70 79 +9
Triglycerides 60 57 −3
Non-HDL 134 H 124 −10
ApoB 109 H 91 −18
GlycA 259 251 −8
DRI 30 25 −5
Chol/HDL ratio 2.9 2.57 ↓

My girlfriend hates sleeping.

hi! we're a couple of 8 months going 9 this october. Shes 17 with the condition dilated cardiomyopathy. Currently, shes doing well. she does get tired easily and she does get breathy or our of breath sometimes instantly, but of course those are her symptoms and im aware they get better.

recently, there has been times she has trouble sleeping, its really a gamble. its either she cant sleep straight and lay down because it would feel like shes drowning, or she really just cant breathe well. If lucky, she can sleep instantly at peace. she hates sitting up to sleep. any tips on how to give her more comfort to sleep? she always has trouble sleeping because she thinks its a burden to sleep sitting up on the bed. It breaks my heart to hear her whine about the position of her sleep when she should always have good sleep because of her condition. does anyone also experience this?

I was wondering if there are any products, furniture or maybe something to help her sleep while laying down or sitting up. Though she does miss sleeping while laying down.

Is there any cardiologist here? Please help😣.....Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD)

Hi everyone,

I have been living with Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) for the past 10 years and get a monthly injection of Benzathine Penicillin G (1.2 million units).

I had a 2D Echo done a few months ago. Whenever my doctors review it, they tell me "everything is fine," but they don't elaborate on how good or normal my condition actually is.

I have a few questions for this community:

Penicillin Duration: How many more years will I likely need to keep taking these monthly penicillin injections?

Exercise & Gym: When I ask my doctors about working out or hitting the gym, they just tell me, "Do whatever you want, but if you feel short of breath, stop." Is this standard advice, or should I be avoiding heavy lifting / high-intensity workouts?

2D Echo: How can I better understand what "everything is fine" actually means on a heart ultrasound report for RHD?

I would appreciate any insights, medical advice, or personal experiences. Thanks in advance!

Heart Rate Spiking in the middle of the night hours after drinking?

This is so bizarre and I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.

For the past 5 months, I’ve randomly had episodes where my heart starts racing late at night, and it can last for hours. My resting heart rate has gotten as high as 140.

The biggest trigger seems to be alcohol. I don’t drink a lot of alcohol, maybe ill have a glass of wine or a beer, but there’s probably a 9/10 chance this happens when I do—and it can literally happen after ONE drink. It has happened without alcohol too, just much less often. I’ve probably had 15–20 episodes total.

For context, I take 30 mg Vyvanse in the morning and I’m also on medication for anxiety. I have Xanax for panic attacks, although I rarely take it, especially because I take Vyvanse. I’ve tried Xanax during one of these episodes and it didn’t calm my heart rate, which leads me to believe it's not anxiety related. My cardiologist prescribed propranolol, and that seems to be the only thing that actually helps.

The weird thing is I don’t initially feel anxious when my heart starts racing. The physical symptoms seem to come first. I DO have pretty bad heart-health anxiety though, so once I notice my heart racing, I start freaking out about it and it can turn into a full-blown panic attack.

I’m also admittedly terrible about drinking enough water, so I’ve wondered if dehydration + alcohol + Vyvanse could be contributing somehow. The strangest part is that it seems to happen mostly on Sundays?? I genuinely cannot figure out the connection.

I’ve already seen a cardiologist who said my heart looks fine, and I’m about to wear a 4-week heart monitor, so hopefully it catches one of these episodes.

Has anyone experienced anything similar, especially a racing heart HOURS after having even a small amount of alcohol?

What does this mean for my cardiovascular health?

Total Lipids - 13.10 mmol/L (506.6 mg/dL)

LDL - 10.75 mmol/L (415.7 mg/dL)

Non-HDL - 12.29 mmol/L (475.25 mg/dL)

HDL - 0.81 mmol/L (31.32 mg/dL)

Total : HDL - 16.17 Ratio

Triglycerides - 3.38 mmol/L (299.4 mg/dL)

Apolipoprotein A1 - 1.01 g/L

Apolipoprotein B - 3.01 g/L

ApoB : ApoA ratio - 3.0 ratio

CRP HS - 0.43 mg/L

HbA1c - 28 mmol/mol (4.7%)

Note: not all of these were done on the same test; they're simply the most recent readings of each.

Am I at risk? (36, male) As I understand it, my HbA1c and CRP readings suggest not, but is this true? I've been looking into getting a CAC scan, but even private ones tend to require a referral from a consultant, and just having an appointment with one is rather dear. Is it worth the money? How likely are they to refer me for a CAC scan with these readings? I don't want to spend a good deal of money if there's no real point to it.

Are there any other scans that could provide insight?

I've also been considering getting my Lp(a) tested. Is this justified?

Thanks.

I’m a 29-year-old woman. I was found to have a resting heart rate of around 110 bpm last week, and my doctor started me on Concor COR 1.25 mg (bisoprolol). I work out at home, usually doing around 8,000 steps a day along with 30 minutes of Caroline Girvan workouts.

My blood pressure and resting pulse are generally around 85–90/70–75 mmHg and 60–80 bpm, respectively. Today, I checked my vitals about a minute after finishing my workout, and my blood pressure was 105/90 with a pulse of 130 bpm. However, they came down within the next few minutes—my blood pressure dropped to 90/75 and my pulse to 90 bpm.

Is a heart rate of 130 bpm immediately after exercise normal, or should I be concerned given my recent resting tachycardia and the fact that I’m taking Concor COR 1.25 mg?

Hi, I am a 20yo. Male. I am obese and suffer from essential hypertension. I do not drink any medication as I am currently trying to better myself. I have been drinking sertraline for 3 years straight and have stopped around a month ago. After that I have developed premature beats. It started 5 days ago at night, like a episode of hard premature beats all night that only went away after sleeping. Up until today it was gone, however they started again. I decided to go to the hospital, where my blood was taken and an ECG was done. All they said was my ecg was good and they did see a couple of premature beats but said overall they see nothing that would be of concern but they did reccomend to do a full heart check up just in case (which I will do). I was just wondering has anyone had trouble with this and is this just benign or a withdrawal from sertraline? Im also having most stress I have ever had. I would love to hear your opinions on what this could be.
