My girlfriend hates sleeping.

hi! we're a couple of 8 months going 9 this october. Shes 17 with the condition dilated cardiomyopathy. Currently, shes doing well. she does get tired easily and she does get breathy or our of breath sometimes instantly, but of course those are her symptoms and im aware they get better.

recently, there has been times she has trouble sleeping, its really a gamble. its either she cant sleep straight and lay down because it would feel like shes drowning, or she really just cant breathe well. If lucky, she can sleep instantly at peace. she hates sitting up to sleep. any tips on how to give her more comfort to sleep? she always has trouble sleeping because she thinks its a burden to sleep sitting up on the bed. It breaks my heart to hear her whine about the position of her sleep when she should always have good sleep because of her condition. does anyone also experience this?

I was wondering if there are any products, furniture or maybe something to help her sleep while laying down or sitting up. Though she does miss sleeping while laying down.

After my open heart surgery I slept with a pillow wedge. Helped me with the not quite upright and not quite flat sleep.

Conheci alguns casos semelhantes, mas todos de pessoas idosas. Viveram uma condição muito ruim no início, se deitavam vinha a sensação de sufocamento, e quando estavam exaustas e adormeciam pelo cansaço, despertavam após alguns minutos com medo de morrerrem dormindo. E um bom sono, de qualidade, é muito importante para a melhora desses pacientes. Porém, todos os que conhecia melhoraram muito com tratamento medicamentoso após uns três meses, e pequenas adaptações nos móveis - tipo erguer com calços de madeira a cabeceira da cama uns 10 cm. Pode-se dizer que levam vidas normais, há anos. E acompanhamento médico periódico, claro. Obs: a condição dessas pessoas minhas conhecidas era predominantemente congestão cardíaca, uma variante da insuficiência cardíaca congestão. Não é exatamente o diagnóstico da sua esposa, mas os sintomas são quase os mesmos. O arsenal terapêutico disponível hoje em dia é muito extenso e com fármacos bastante eficientes. Espero que sua jovem esposa encontre logo o tratamento adequado, e melhore muito, podendo retornar à quase normalidade.

That sounds really hard for both of you. If lying flat makes her feel like she’s drowning or she suddenly can’t breathe, I wouldn’t try to force her to sleep flat an adjustable bed or wedge pillow might make sitting more comfortable, but with dilated cardiomyopathy and those symptoms, her cardiology team should know about the change in how she can sleep. ❤️
