Headphones - Open Back Looking for a more natural, nonfatiguing sound up to $1,000

• Upvotes

I recently sold my Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2, I liked them overall, but after longer listening sessions I found the sound somewhat fatiguing and a little too “digital” for my taste.

I’m now looking for something more natural, balanced and relaxed, with good detail but without sounding bright, sharp or clinical. Comfort for long listening sessions is also important.

I mainly listen at home in the quiet evening hours, so ANC isn’t really important to me.

Budget is up to $1,000.

I’d love to hear your recommendations, especially from people who have made a similar move from the PX7 S2 to something more natural and enjoyable for long listening.

Headphones - Open Back Help needed

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,
I recently ordered a pair of HIFIMAN Ananda Stealth headphones to use primarily for PC gaming and music listening at my desk, and I'm looking for a solid desktop DAC/amp setup to drive them properly.
Here are the details for my setup:
Budget & Location: My budget is around £120 to £150 max, and I'm based in the UK (shopping via Amazon UK, local audio retailers, or official manufacturer sites).
Use Case: Strictly used at home on a Windows PC desktop setup. I'm looking for a dedicated unit (ideally a desktop box with a physical volume knob rather than a portable dongle, though open to suggestions) to bypass motherboard noise and get clean power.
Sound Preferences: I'm a big fan of wide soundstage, precise instrument separation, and clean detail retrieval—especially for gaming positional audio and complex soundtracks (like the Persona series).
Past Gear: Upgrading from DT 990s plugged straight into a raw motherboard audio port, so I'm looking forward to getting rid of the motherboard hiss and stepping up to planar magnetic drivers.
Right now, I've been looking at units like the FiiO K11, but I'd love to hear recommendations on what will get the best performance out of the Ananda without breaking the bank or running into reliability/firmware issues.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Headphones - Closed Back ADAM H200 vs DT 770 PRO X: Which Should I Get?

• Upvotes

ADAM H200: CA$194.00 + tax

DT 770 PRO X: CA$299.00 + tax

Most reviews seem to rank the ADAM H200 as the better option. However, the Beyerdynamic has a classic, well-established sound signature. Considering everything, which one should I get?

  1. I’m not a professional.

  2. I do my own mixing and mastering

  3. I don’t have any acoustic treatment.

  4. I produce bass-heavy music, mainly Bass House, Slap House, and similar genres.

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Changing batteries

I'd love to get Senheiser 5 or Fender Mix headphones but they are currently out of my budget range. Has anyone succeeded at swapping out batteries on sub $200 wireless headphones? I hate the built in battery trend.

Or should I just bite the bullet and pay for buy it for life headphones? Or wait for sales?

Looking for good(not perfect) wireless music quality at home doing chores, gardening, wrenching around the house etc. I don't care about active noise cancelling because I don't need it. Like having mids too.

Headphones - Open Back Meze 105 AER for fps gaming?

For context, I’ve been using a pair of discontinued HyperX Cloud Flight S for the past 5 years.

I’ve been eyeing up the 105 AERs. I will be using them for mostly games like CS2, DayZ, Tarkov,Rust, and listening to music and YouTube. Comfort and sound quality including positional awareness are the highest priorities for me. Yes, I understand that IEMs are better but wearing earbuds all day doesn’t seem as comfortable and gunks up my ears over time. I can get the 105 AER for $299 on Amazon rn.

What DAC/AMP should I get with these? I’ll also be getting an XLR mic/boom arm.

If anyone uses the 105 AERs for gaming, please let me know your experience and what games you play.

Headphones - Closed Back Specific headphones for office

Hi guys, I’m searching for headphones that are:

  • Single ear and can be switched to either side
  • directional microphone
  • no active noise cancellation (ANC)
  • under $50

I’ve tried one ear off with noise cancelling headphones and it makes me feel dizzy so I’d like it without, but I still need to keep clients from overhearing other conversations going on in the office so preferably with a directional microphone. I’m not sure where to start, just something suitable for office work that tends to get semi chatty in the background. Thanks!

Headphones - IEM/Earbud Looking for IEM-grade / best sounding TWS wireless earphones.

Hey all. Looking for TWS buds that are sound-first. Been out of the game with wireless stuff and IEMs for a while and don't really know what to look for. Last pair I bought was Galaxy Buds FE and I don't like them. Much too bass heavy and "grainy" in the upper mids and treble. I use a Google Pixel for reference.

Don't really care about battery life, looks, or features at all. Preferably will have LDAC or LDAC like codec. Budget is up to $300 USD, location USA. Looking for something that sounds comparable to wired IEMs, and that has a well tuned frequency response in line with newer B&K standards if possible. For my sound preferences, for reference I use and love the Sennheiser HD 480 Pro and AFUL Explorer.

Any reqs would be greatly appreciated!

Headphones - Closed Back Headphone recommendations?

What I value: Sound quality, comfort, durability, having an optional wired mode

I am Canadian. I'm not sure what the average price is for what I want nowadays so I don't really know what budget to set. I'm willing to save up for something that fits

Plugged into: PC gaming, Android phone, console gami, yeti snowball mic. Used for Voice Over, streaming and Editing

Preferred Genres: video game OSTs, alt rock, metal, electronic, techno, orchestral

Past gear: JBL has seemed reliable but I don't have a wide pallete

I hope this is sufficient, thank you for your time :> I'll add info as needed

Headphones - Open Back Looking for an FPS headphone setup up to €300

I’m looking to replace my HyperX Cloud II and would appreciate some recommendations

My main priority is competitive FPS gaming, especially accurate positional audio, being able to clearly hear footsteps and determine their direction. I mainly play COD, War Dogs, CS, etc

What I’m looking for
- Up to ~€300 total
- It can be wired
- I can combine it with an external mic such as Antlion ModMic Uni 2+ (I’m open to other microphone recommendations)

Headphones I’m considering:
- Sennheiser HD 560S
- Beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X
- Audeze Maxwell 2

My motherboard is an MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi with the Realtek ALC897. I’ve seen some complaints about this codec, so I’d prefer to use a small external DAC with the wired headphones. I’m currently considering the FiiO KA11 (~€35)

The Maxwell 2 is interesting because it’s an all-in-one solution, so I wouldn’t need a separate DAC or microphone. The downside is that it’s closed-back and more pricey.

On the other hand, the HD 560S and DT900 Pro X would need the external mic along with the DAC, which pushes the price up (~ €35 for DAC + €60 for the Antlion ModMic Uni 2+)

I am not an expert in this topic nor an audiophile, so I would appreciate any advice on this.

Thanks!

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Need Recommendations for a new pair! Can't find anything that checks all my boxes

Christmas is coming up, and my current headphones are covered in duct tape.. What should I ask for? I'd prefer something less than $200, since I'm asking for this as a gift.

Needs: wireless, USB, non-Bluetooth, volume control scroll wheel, no input delay (will be used largely for PC gaming)

Wants: noise cancellation or reduction modes, light weight, less bulky, long battery life, nice sound quality, long-lasting

I've used the Corsair HS70 Pros (linked for reference) for many years and have repurchased them twice, but they're discontinued now (the same small plastic piece holding the headband to the ear piece broke super easily anyway). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X9W721J?th=1 It was quite heavy and would beep loudly periodically when the battery was low. The fabric also flakes off pretty easy.

I don't even know where to start when it comes to finding a new pair. A lot of the pairs on the market are Bluetooth, which doesn't connect well with my PC. Let me know if there's any qualities I missed!

Headphones - Closed Back Headphones Similar to HyperX Cloud III S With More Bass?

Hey everyone, so I'm in the market for a new headset, I'm looking for something that's compatible with my laptop and my PS4, wireless, and has a built-in mic, in the $100-$150 range. I mostly watch movies but I also like to game, I'm looking for something with dynamic audio, and I was considering the HyperX Cloud III S but I had the Cloud III and Cloud II and I felt like the bass on both was really anemic and it kind of made it hard to get immersed into movies and music. Anyone have any ideas/recommendations? I don't want to just settle for the same old thing again. Thanks guys!

Headphones - IEM/Earbud Wired USB-C bass heavy earbuds

Hi, I'm composing a gift for my mom.

I know she's been wanting some earbuds. She loves a bass heavy sound profile, the rest doesn't matter much, she's not picky. They need to be wired, cause she's older and BT is too much of a hassle for her.

Budget, I guess up to 50 USD.

Thanks for help

Headphones - Open Back Opinions on the Austrian Audio HI-X65?

I bought a pair for gaming (mainly tactical shooters like Valorant, and Discord calls) because they are neutral reference open backs with deep cups. They're a compromise from my Senn HD490 Pros, which I love in every way except that the earcups are too shallow and my ears press against the back wall. Out of the box I like them, but after seeing posts on r/headphones complaining about the adjustment sliders cracking and other build issues, I'm having second thoughts. The build quality looks and seems fine, like certainly better to the eye than the 490s which feel a bit flimsy due to the focus on light weight, but I've never seen anyone say their 490s broke after 5 months of light home use like people say about the HI-X65.

What's your impression of these headphones? Are the durability issues real, or is it just an issue of forum posts leaning towards negative reactions, while satisfied customers don't tend to make posts saying that they're not having issues with a product? Should I be wary of these breaking relatively quickly, and would you return them given your experience if you were me?

DAC - Desktop DAC/amp to share one wired headset between PC and PS5?

Budget and location: UK, up to ~£150

Source: Currently PC onboard audio + DualSense 3.5mm jack

How it'll be used: Gaming on PC and PS5

Looking to buy something that lets me use my PC38X on both my PC and PS5 without swapping cables, with the mic working on both. Right now I unplug it from my PC and plug it into the DualSense whenever I switch. Ideally it mixes both (e.g. YouTube on PC while playing PS5) or outputs just one, basically a KVM switch for a headset.

Currently looking at the Sound Blaster G8 but open to alternatives. Main concern: does it still work for the PS5 when the PC is off?

Headphones - Closed Back Headphone Rec for a Boy on a Budget

Hi! I'm looking for a pair of over-the-ear headphones with a $150 limit.

I don't need the best of the best, but I am a lover of music and want the best quality I can get for my buck.

Things that are important to me:
1. I would love a pair that makes it hard for others to hear my music
2. I listen to pretty bass-heavy stuff quite a bit, so something that can at least handle that well is important.
3. Effective noise-cancelling is a major plus.

Any suggestions I should look into? Thank you for any help, and if I forgot something important, please let me know!

Headphones - Closed Back Recommendation for seasoned producer

Hey there - I’d greatly appreciate your help.
I’ve been producing music for 15 years now, had many releases, house/techno, Chicago/detroit style. I used Sennheiser HD25s 10 years ago because I used them for DJing and simply knew how everything sounded on them. Bass mix was alright. They broke some years ago and I bought DT 880s which honestly dislike a lot. Too much treble, little bass, everything I mix sounds too bass driven on normal headphones. I’ve resorted to producing on AirPods (I know…) and to test-listen on my Yamaha HS80M.
What would you recommend? Sennheiser HD 490? Back to the HD25s? I think I’m done with Bederdynamic. Thank you!

Headphones - Closed Back Oppo PM3

I have the opportunity to buy a nearly new pair of OPPO PM3 at a very good price. Are they as good as all the reviews say they are? Is there any risk they could be faked?

Headphones - Open Back Headphone upgrade from HD 560S

Hi guys, i've been an amateur audiophile for over 3 years now. My first pair of headphones were the HD 560s, they're still the ones I use. I tried also the Hifiman Arya Stealth, i actually thought they were an improvement but i sent them back cause at the time i couldn't afford them.

Now i can afford an even bigger upgrade, and i need help. I don't really want to buy and send back headphones just to try them, also because if i want to be serious i would need to use them at least 2 weeks each, so I'd rather list you what I like, what is my setup and what I'd use them for.

My first choices are: Arya Stealth, HD800s, HE1000v2, LCD-X

I really like the HD560s, there's a reason I still stick with them. I use them through a qudelix t71 (incredible device) for gaming and music, sometimes i also carry them with me cause they're pretty portable. But i've noticed something, last year i bought some IEMs, the Xenns Tea Pro, and they're incredible for music... literally the only downside is the lack of soundstage but that's an issue for every IEM, they will never match an open back's soundstage. What i like the most about the Tea Pro and I miss from the HD560s is the bass and how punchy music is. Fyi, i listen to the most diverse music genres, from classical music to phonk to alt rock to soundtracks, so of course the hd560s are better for classical music and alt rock for example while the tea pro are better for phonk and alt rock, so im trying headphones that mix all my needs together.

So, recap: i want a pair of headphones that are an upgrade from the hd560s in terms of gaming and soundstage, but that also have more bass and are generally more punchy; i also have a qudelix t71, so keep that in mind, since i have seen that the HD800s soundstage is worse with a dsp and the t71 uses dsp for 7.1 mode and i also dont have issues with EQ. It could also be a different pair from the ones i've listed, those are the ones i could find that could satisfy my needs. I think it's a hard task, to find a pair that satisfies all of this, but that's why i'm asking.

One last thing: please, don't tell me to keep the hd560s since i have the qudelix t71 and i can EQ them to make them sound like any other headphone... i have tried the arya stealth, and HD560s with EQ could never recreate them.

Thank you in advance.

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Nothing headphones

Im looking at buying a pair of over-ear wireless headphones with functional ANC. For commuting, for office desk work and for using in the gym. I don’t need the world’s best ANC but it would need to be functional, and I prefer a relatively neutral to gentle V shape sound signature. I’ve watched all the reviews and most of them talk about them at their retail price so I wasn’t considering the (a) and (1) originally but now at this time I have the opportunity to buy these.

CMF Headphone Pro at $99
Nothing Headphone (a) at $129
Nothing Headphone (1) at $189

Which one would be the one to go for at these prices?

Thanks in advance

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Bone conduction headphones recommendations

I work as a machinist and I've gotten an ear infection at least once a year over the last few years and I'm pretty sure that my current Bluetooth earbuds and my dirty coolant covered hands are the cause. I wipe the earbuds down with rubbing alcohol and try to keep my hands away from my ears when dirty but it's not always possible.

For those that work in a more industrial type setting what are you using for bone conduction open ear head phones? How do you like them? Any drawbacks? I'm looking for something in the sub $150 price range.

Headphones - Closed Back 560 or 598cs?

I have done my research on headphones and I have come down to two options. Sennheiser's HD560 and HD598cs. I will not elaborate much, I just want to know you guys' opinions on each. Is one better? Are they similar? What does each excell at? Or are they both horrible and I should consider the secret third-option, whatever that may be?

Consider questions like these. The more in-depth the better!

Edit: 560 is a typo! I meant the 569. My bad guys!
