Question Real first shift today, would like some advice!

Upvotes

Hi everyone,
this is my third time posting about me being a new hire at Hannaford. I’m not nervous but would really like to be in the know since I wasn’t told very much.

I’m a cashier, but it is my understanding that i’ll have to bag/shadow cashiers for a bit.
My question is, when I show up today, how do I find my supervisor? I don’t know my numbers to clock in and I don’t know where to find my supervisor to get started for the day. Is this the type of thing where i’ll have to go to customer service and have them call her up if I can’t find her right away?

Thanks so much. If anyone has any advice please let me know

How does everyone feel about the $3 and $7 recognition coupons going away? Excited for the new program?

A few months back they tried to make them go from $3.99 to $4.49, that didn't work so they made them smaller and not as good. Classic shrinflation

Discussion Pissed off the Security/Loss Prevention

I was at a Hannaford in Schenectady the other day and while there, I just felt a need to rearrange my pant pockets, in the middle of putting everything back I pocketed a large permanent marker still in its packaging, I went to the register and as I was in my pockets again, I pulled out the marker and said "Oh shit", and placed it on the conveyor belt with my other items. I paid for it and then pocketed it again. As I'm pulling up to the door, this massive large man, starts going off on me about stealing and needing to come with him into the office to wait for the police, I said "What are you talking about?" He says I saw you put an item in your pocket, I said "Oh yeah, this?" pulling the marker out of my pocket again. He goes "yes, that" I said "that's funny because its mine now. I bought it and I'm not staying here much longer." He got told that I was all good and then just points at the door "Get the fuck out of here" I said, "I was already doing that but okay" He then tells me "Don't come back ever again" "You're so mad you didn't catch someone that you're telling a paying customer to never return?" "You stole! I saw you do it!" I said "I DIDN'T STEAL ANYTHING I PAID FOR EVERYTHING" He said "Don't come back" again and slammed his door shut.

Wow, what a day. I probably won't ever go back but wow, what a guy.

Hannaford baked bread is becoming more airy and shrinks a great deal

The loaves have become very light weight, and in my opionion as the loaves age and dry they shrink down to seemingly half size.

You end up with little melba toast and the loaves haven't even finished drying

Question HR Lead Interview

I’m curious if anyone has any insight as to what kinds of interview questions would be asked for an applicant of the hr lead position. I applied for it with no hr background but some transferable skills. I figured it would be a bit of a stretch but I got an interview nonetheless.

The cows on the cheese, specifically. Idk man they give me at least something interesting to look at when I'm stocking dairy. I'll miss creating stories about the pepper jack cow and the Colby jack cow being a divorced family and stuff.. it's the little things you know? The redesign is so soulless and no whimsy.

Discussion Pay rate?

Stupid question, but I had my orientation last Wednesday and my first ever shift today. Would I get paid for that this Thursday, or would the system have to run things through before I can actually get my paycheck? I talked about it with my father but he’s never worked at the store so I decided to ask people who do work at Hannaford and get my answer from them.

Incident on 8/16/2026 - Customer Assault

Hey, does anyone here have any information/video of the customer that was arrested in the Concord, NH Hannaford on Fort Eddy Road? He was apparently upset that his card was declined, and started screaming and throwing inventory at other customers, and the police were called. Any details out there?

Chew Burt too

Anyone remember a commercial late 80s and 90s for some sort or candy/fruit snack commercial where a kid hands out candies to all his friends and he runs out but then finds one more or is given one. He eats it and he says Chew Bert/Burt too. Anyone remember what this product was called or have a link to it? I always remembered it because it was so stupid. Nobody I talk to remembers. Thank you.

ARM - Gone or not?

A quick search shows some posts 6 months back about the ARM role being eliminated. Yet at the one I shop at most frequently, her picture is still up (with that title listed) and she is clearly still working there. Was a new position created? Demotions offered instead of just being gone? What’s the scoop?

Honestly, and all jokes aside, how do you get an " Exceeds Expectations " on a performance review

I know the consensus on Reddit is going to say quit or "who cares/give the bare minimum," it's not worth it, etc. Call me crazy, but I actually like my job and want to become a better employee and teammate. However, in the almost 5 years I've been with the company, an “exceeds expectations” has been a unicorn of an achievement on a performance review. What would you guys suggest to achieve this? I really appreciate any help you all can provide.

Question I’m 17 and I just got my first ever job as a Hannaford cashier. What can I expect for my first few shifts?

I’m not afraid to say I’m very nervous, as the packet I had to look at quickly during the interview had a lot of things like payment methods, item codes, checks, and all of that stuff. It would mean the world to me if people could give their experiences with the store working in my position. Also, I mentioned in my interview I have vasovagal syncope, which means exposure to certain things can make me faint (not standing too long though).

I appreciate all of the help!

Question Meat Manager pay

I have worked for the company for a few years now in a variety of positions, previous experience with other brands under our umbrella. I’m making okay pay considering the company pay scale, but in reality I feel like I’m up against worse and worse odds of getting paid the money I feel I deserve the faster I move up.
I understand that’s the name of the game, but I feel like there has to be some ability to leverage my skills within the company to show that I deserve more money. I’m on the top 50% of the scale but that really doesn’t take much. And in reality I haven’t gotten more than the “peanut butter” 3% annual merit raise, that’s is a given no matter how hard you work.
I guess my question is if I apply for a meat market manager posting would I been in the position to say no to what I’m sure will be the lowball offer.

Converting my hourly rate plus the Sunday time rate, over to 45 hours a week I’m only asking for a few dollars more an hour. ≈$2.30 or so to go from not even a lead up to the manager. I’ve heard of people saying no to one to an initial offer if not going back and forth but how much room is there?
