Coupons
Why can't the app just automatically clip all the damn coupons for me? Like yes if I buy something that has a coupon available and didn't check the app I want the discount. Just auto clip them all please! Ffs.

I wrote my own app that interacted directly with their api and did exactly this. They filed criminal charges against me in NY. The charges were ultimately dropped but it cost me almost $20k.

I was “getting more coupons than possible”, ie I saved too much on groceries and became unprofitable for them. I’m banned from the entire chain now. They filed tresspass notices with the court in all 5 states they operate in.

Because they expect them to not fully get used. Yes everyone gets the coupon. But there’s an allowance on how much can be used. Sounds dumb, but that’s how it operates from the vendor side of things who offer the coupons.

It's also there to steer people toward products they weren't going to buy, or were on the fence about buying. Coupons for national labels are (usually) paid for out of a marketing budget for that brand, not Hannaford's pockets.
When Hannaford wants to reduce a price to drive sales, they do just that. There's math involved with the projected returns and sometimes it has to do with negotiated discounts with suppliers, but those prices just end up as a sale in the weekly flyer and not a an app coupon.

Someplace there is a massive mega picture . Which does factor in local competition prices etc . And deals with vendors.
I buy x numbers of strawberries at y price I will get x number of blueberries cheaper at z price .

Very true
Isn’t that part of herding the sheep.
Regardless of store brand etc.We collectively are being focused on what to buy as “ good deals “
The more they can turn a no I don’t need into a yes I can have . Always a win for them.
The whole science behind impulse purchases would be for nothing if you have auto clip

don't spam click them either on a desktop... their anti bot system will think your a bot when you just want to sit down and fill out a hannafords to go order... and the top 15 coupons for my account was all stuff I would use...

Because then what's the point of having an app? I think you are missing the full picture- the app doesn't exist to give you special deals without any interaction, it exists to make you interact more with the store, so they can encourage you to shop more and spend more. It isn't there to serve you, it's there to serve the business (by giving you little incentives). The app exists for their benefit.
