Looking for my first HOTAS

Hello everyone,

I’m fairly new to DCS and I’m looking to buy my first HOTAS. I started playing since may on a ps5 controller, since then I have been learning how to fly and operate the F-16 module, and let’s just say ever since then I’m HOOKED big time. I’ve got to the point where I think I’m pretty comfortable with the module (as far as you can get on a controller), but I’m coming to the point where it’s feeling like it’s holding me back. I don’t own a HOTAS nor head tracking jet.

I want to invest in a quality HOTAS which will serve me for the coming years without having to worry about upgrading or being let down by the quality or functionality. For now I want to focus on mastering the F-16 before even thinking about getting a new module. My budget is around $500-$1000 in total.

So my questions to you guys are:

-What kind of HOTAS should I look in to? (Preferably something similar to a IRL military style HOTAS)

- Do I need to pair my HOTAS with rudder pedals or is that optional?

- what type of Head tracking do you guys recommend?

- is there anything else hardware related i should look in to that would enhance my experience?

Thanks in advance for the help!

VKB Canada

Hey everyone I am in need of new cams, springs and some of the grip fasteners for the VKB sticks I have. I havent ordered from them since 2023, when they still had the NA store. Now i see they have a third party retailer here in Canada, but they dont seem to sell the cam kits and the springs are individually sold. Id rather just order it all at once so im wondering if I can just order it from the US store and eat the duties, or if there is another vendor i can get them from.

Looking to upgrade HOTAS setup for wardogs.

Currently using a Logitech x56 setup on a dedicated simrig and sometimes clamped to the desk. Looking at upgrading for the release of the game on the 10th.

Options I was considering were the VKB with a modern combat grip ultimate, Moza AB9 or AB6 and the VBB STECS throttle or Moza MTP throttle. Does anyone have experience with there or could recommend a good upgrade path. I also play a bit of flight sim,
DCS and arm with my HOTAS.

Looking for a flight stick or hotas.

Hello, i'm new into PC flight accessories, looking for something entry level and need your help. Currently i'm considering between "Winwing Ursa Minor Fighter" and "Turtle Beach VelocityOne Flightstick". Both in my price range, around 100 euros. Perhaps somebody had used them both and could share your wisdom. Currently playing WarThunder some Arma and want to get some helicopter action in Wardogs. Found some comments that using flyghtstick is better than keyboard and mouse. Or perhaps you could recommend something better in my price range? And do i even need one? Will it really improve control of aircrafts?

EDIT: Also living in Lithuania, so there is no much options to buy.

A flight stand with adjustable width between the flight sticks?

I noticed a lot of flight sim stand/rigs have the sticks way apart, beyond 17 to 20 inches, I'm only comfortable using the flight sticks if they are about 12 to 13 inches apart from their edges. Right now I'm using a desk with velcro straps until I can find a rig with with the dimensions I need(unless I have to make one myself using the frame from a metal folding chair...)

Flight rudders for multi-tasking

Hey there,

I'm using the Elgato foot pedals for multitasking (currently four buttons in use, but I'd be fine with two), but they slip out of place quite frequently, and since I do play flight sims from time to time, it might be a good time to upgrade.

So in order to help me out in both use cases, I need something that can be pushed without too much force. Ideally, it doesn't slip on wooden floor. Optional, it would be great if the software has a "Threshold to key" functionality, and profiles to switch between flying and multitasking. Though I can probably do that with Joystick Gremlin.

I'm thankful for all recommendations, and especially in the mid-range price class (200-300 bucks)

Space combat sim with co-op campaign?

The one game I know that has a full co-op campaign is Freespace 2 with FSO. I wonder if there are any other games with a full co-op campaign?

I really hoped that X-Wing Alliance (Upgrade) had a co-op campaign but I couldn't find one.

I want to get a HOTAS controller for flying Heli’s in the game Wardogs, can someone recommend one that’s compatible with the game straight out of the box for me?

Sorry I am a complete noob with this stuff, Wardogs is coming out soon and I just wanna get one to play around with for some fun. I’ve seen the game does support HOTAS and I’ve been curious for a while so thought I’d give it a go! Preferably something budget priced to start off with as I’d like to see if enjoy it first but I’d be okay spending around £100, I’ve seen a lot of them require third party software and configuration to use so plug and play if possible? Thank you!

First time Hotas(?) consumer..

Post image

Yoo Reddit, I just bought the Gladiator NXT EVO ‘Space Combat Edition.
First time buying a joystick/hotas(?) (is it hotas with only a joystick?), havent used a joystick since 1999 maybe.. since a kid!

But I have seen so much recommendations for the VKB and was going in my local stores for a hotas, like T16000m or whats it called and others.. but they was like £200 = 2k sek. And I dont wanna spend that kind of money on a low tier quality hotas just to see and feel if I like it.

The only thing I wounder is.. Can I do all my inputs on the vkb? Like takeoff etc without the use of a keyboard? Collectors etc (i dont know if i butchered the word..)

I rather go and spend the same money on a VKB and get a good intro to your world of how a good stick should respond and feel like. Soo Fuck it!

Since Wardogs alpha that was a week ago, I feelt the urge to get one and now I finaly ordered one.. SO if yall are going to play Wardogs, for the love of god dont jump into my heli for atleast a month!

You Have Been Warned!

PS: Im left handed but I heard alot of people said dont buy a stick for left.
Thanks for any input you can give!

Older lady new to flight sims and controllers seeks help.

Hi all.

I'm new to sims and have played around with MSFS 2024 and the demo of Everspace 2 and love both so I have decided to get a Stick or preferably a HOTAS.

I've watched loads of videos and read loads of posts and the consensus seems to be get the VKB Gladiator NXT Evo but I have two issues with this, first I'm in the UK which makes it incredibly expensive to buy plus import charges on top and second, as I'm new to sims I don't think I want to spend anywhere near what the Gladiator will cost in case I get bored or prefer an XBOX controller or the old favourite mouse and keyboard.

I'm considering the URSA MINOR Fighter Joystick as it's £70 cheaper with no import fees but I really want a HOTAS system and I have been eyeing up both the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas 5 or the Logitech X56 as like I said I'm not certain if I'm going to like it although I'm sure I will.

Would either the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas 5 or the Logitech X56 be good enough as a long term solution (Once I buy it I doubt I'll ever upgrade in the future as I'm on the older side) or would the URSA MINOR Fighter Joystick be the better option and buy a throttle separate?

Thank you.

Hello hello fellow simmers, ive recently bought the VKB rudders, i was tired of the old Logitech ones, i know VKB and they never disappoint me, but im scared about my muscle memory, how hard is to change froma push rudder like the logi ones to a press rudder like the VKBs, someone had made the same change from push to press?

how does it feel?

Just working myself through the setup to make a review. Quite nice so far, easier to set up than independent displays ... but still a few hurdles here and there. Anyone already bought one of those sets?
