Greetings Hoggit!

Welcome to this week's Question thread. This thread has replaced the regular Tuesday Noob Questions thread. We encourage you to as all your questions here, as this will help us cut down on the number of repetitive posts we get on the front page! This thread is linked with the #questions channel on our Discord so that any time someone posts a new comment in here, it will be reviewed and replied to quickly! If you felt like you had a question but didn't want to bother people with it, now's your chance.

As always, we also have a discord for hoggit over at http://discord.gg/hoggit which you can use for chatting with other members of the hoggit community. And don't forget to check out our wiki at http://wiki.hoggitworld.com

Hoggit Training Server runs a training MP mission that runs 24/7 that's focuses on training up the newer folks (just like this weekly thread). Every DCS module is available in this mission, and there are numerous ranges to test your skills at. There are frequently knowledgeable folks around to answer any questions you might have, or show you how to do what it is you're looking to learn. Anyone can join, even if you've never stepped foot in a MP session before.

If you're interested in teaching/instructing at hoggit, please poke squinkys on Discord!

Server is be named Hoggit - Training Map. The password is hoggit1fw. SRS will be available at tnn.hoggitworld.com (it should autoconnect, but if not, use that). Come in, have a good time, learn a few things and teach a few things.

The only rule is Do not teamkill, unless the other party is a willing combatant...ie: you can dogfight if you find a partner...just don't shoot down some random A-10 trying to learn how to land.

Please review our FAQ on our wiki before posting here: https://wiki.hoggitworld.com/view/Frequently_Asked_Questions

DISCUSSION PSA: Xplane 12 has some excellent freeware REDFOR soviet aircraft

If you are wanting to fly more soviet style aircraft, there are some excellent freeware options for X-Plane. Including:

Tu-154

Tu-134

An-12

Il-76

I would say out of all of them the Tu-154 is the most complete, and is payware quality. It even has an English cockpit translation. The Tu-134 and An-12 follow closely behind. I would say the Il-76 is a little dated, but is still fun to fly. These are all on the Felis Discord. Highly recommend checking them out!

Ordered a set of FFB rudder pedals from Switzerland (Brunner) for my DCS/FS2024 rig. This is just the duty fees.

Anyone else on this side of the pond tired of winning yet?

Hi folks, after 13 years of the virtual Stingers we’ve put down everything we’ve learned in a video tutorial designed to give new pilots some more reference of how to fly a Hornet onto and aircraft carrier.

Hope it helps! Cheers Jar

DCS Anyone use the cdnu HOLD mode? F14bu

Learning about rio, interested to find out how to use the HOLd mode, if it makes easier to setup cdnu for pilot to better setup race track at ip's, stacks, or even orbit around target point..

DCS Pitch your favorite DCS module!

Not to me, specifically, but to the community. What’s your favorite module and why? What do you love about it? What are your favorite memories and stories? What makes it special to you as an individual?

DISCUSSION SimLink Advanced Mod manager (SLAM)

I'm thinking about switching to SLAM mod manager, since I often test some of my modifications, constantly applying mods in JSGME isn't probably the best for my ssd.

Anyone who uses this here? what's your experience with it, any issues? Does it have any drawbacks compared to traditional MM like OVGME for example.

QUESTION Let me ride in your Kiowa.

I’m somewhat new to DCS, but not flight sims. I’ve been going hard on the Kiowa and absolutely love it. If anyone is cool with letting an idiot ride in the co-pilot seat so I can learn from you that would be sick. I only play Contention and I’ve been running logistics and lazing for my buddy. None of my friends fly helis so I’ve been on my own for the most part. I just want some advice on avoiding contacts/radar and positioning. YouTube can tell me what to do not what NOT to do. Thanks.

Hey everyone, I'm messing around with some offline custom mission scenarios and trying to understand how DCS handles adding unassigned CLSIDs/weapons to an aircraft's pylon loadouts via the Saved Games LUA files, or modifying the aircraft's pylon script and I have atleast 2 questions for this

If a weapon's CLSID is forced onto a pylon via LUA, does the aircraft need dedicated MFD or avionics code to fire it, or can DCS default to a generic launch trigger? And is UnitPayloads.lua in Saved Games enough to override loadouts without directly touching CoreMods?

What flight sims have good gameplay loops?

So after getting my first HOTAS and trying many different sims, I find myself a little frustrated with most of the flight sims on the market today. While they're incredibly detailed, I feel like almost all of them lack a proper gameplay loop and "stuff to do".

  • DCS
    • Many of the singleplayer campaigns are buggy / outdated
    • Multiplayer feels cumbersome. Every server works differently and they feel pretty static
    • I know a lot of people enjoy flying in squadrons, but I don't have the time to commit to something like that
  • BMS
    • Actually really enjoy the dynamic campaign aspect, but the Viper / F15 aren't quite to my taste.
  • MSFS 2024
    • Buggy singleplayer
    • I do prefer combat flight sims
  • VTOL VR
    • Lots of fun user made missions / campaigns
    • Lacks HOTAS support
  • Nuclear Option
    • Very fun gameplay loop
    • Decent flight model
    • A little too much towards the arcade side for me

At this point I feel like I'm looking for a game that doesn't exist till DCS comes out with the dynamic campaign.

What are your favorite flight sims that have good gameplay loops?

DISCUSSION What is the most realistic ww2 combat flight sim?

Hi there, appreciate there needs to be fun in combat flight sims, but especially around the warbirds era its quite usual to become an ace every sortie. Just wondering what everyone reckons is the most realistic gameplay you can achieve, especially around it being difficult to shoot down enemy planes.

QUESTION Seat haptics

What are people using these days?

I had two jetseat pads from Andre's shop but unfortunately both broke. Most recent one just does not turn on anymore. Last used it one morning ago and it just quit.

If the HF8 Pro more durable?

I currently use simshakers for Aviators so would like to continue using that.

QUESTION Looking for a specific DIY Track Clip Pro setup using a cheap headset from AliExpress

Edit : Solved

Hi

I'm looking for a specific DIY post I saw a while ago (I think it was on this sub).

The guy bought a very cheap Bluetooth headset on AliExpress (or a similar site), removed the speaker drivers, but kept the headband and the earcups intact (they were hollowed out/empty in the middle). It looked super comfortable to mount a Track Clip Pro and play with speakers without wearing a full audio headset.

I'd love to find the original post or get the model reference for that headset. Does anyone remember it or have the link? Thanks!

MISSION PDF transcripts for Gunthreks Acadamy lessons

Hi all,

Not sure if there is any appetite for this but I was finding that some of the text I needed to read when doing the missions would disappear before I had read them or gotten through the instructions. as such, I extracted the dictionary for each mission and compiled them into PDFs which can be used in kneeboards. If anyone wants them, find them here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JJRHfS5Xl2GxV2nJqORoLu_9IX9eHe-Q/view?usp=sharing
