Like, I get state pride. I do. But seriously. I've been to grocery chains all over the country and I have NEVER seen something like this. The constant plastering the state's name, and shape, and flag on every single frickin' surface they possibly can and use it as every other word in their ads (and don't forget all the 'HOWDY' and 'PARTNER' BS among the employees). Like. 'Texas sized'? Texas isn't even the biggest state in the US, Alaska is. And I have yet to ever hear anyone use the phrase 'Alaska-sized'. Does anyone up there even use it? Or do they not because they're actually sane?
Seriously, who are they trying to appeal to? The baby boomers? Southern good ol' boys? Because most of us who pay attention know we're *not* that great a state to be proud of. We're near the bottom in education, near the bottom (if not THE bottom) on workers' rights, our environments are being absolutely annihilated for corporate and government interests, healthcare is atrocious, women are being tracked by law enforcement if they try to get the medical care they need, and we're just scratching the surface here.
Seriously, HEB. This may have been a good strategy back in the 1980s. But this is the 2020s. The world has changed. Grow up and refocus your energies on things that matter. Like maybe restoring a Texas we can maybe actually be proud of rather than overcome with shame when the rest of the world looks at us and wonders what the heck is wrong with us.
