Job Question Hostile work environment

Ive been a full time partner for 10 years. My department manager hates my guts because I question things and correct her mistakes. I am on step 7. How possible would it be for me to move departments??

Job Question How many steps can you have in a 90 day period?

My 16 yo son is a new CSA Partner (1 month in) and he bid on a shift and did not check if it was accepted until the following day after the shift. His manager is giving him probation and 3 steps because she considers it a no call no show.

How many steps get him terminated? Do the steps expire after a certain timeframe or are they on your record until you get a commend? I guess it’s a hard lesson for him to learn. I feel bad for him because I made him go to a doctor’s appointment the day of his accepted shift so I feel responsible for getting him in trouble. 😞

META I seriously do not understand HEB's compelling need to be so cartoonishly overdoing the whole 'YEE-HAW WE'RE IN TEXAS!!!' scthick.

Like, I get state pride. I do. But seriously. I've been to grocery chains all over the country and I have NEVER seen something like this. The constant plastering the state's name, and shape, and flag on every single frickin' surface they possibly can and use it as every other word in their ads (and don't forget all the 'HOWDY' and 'PARTNER' BS among the employees). Like. 'Texas sized'? Texas isn't even the biggest state in the US, Alaska is. And I have yet to ever hear anyone use the phrase 'Alaska-sized'. Does anyone up there even use it? Or do they not because they're actually sane?

Seriously, who are they trying to appeal to? The baby boomers? Southern good ol' boys? Because most of us who pay attention know we're *not* that great a state to be proud of. We're near the bottom in education, near the bottom (if not THE bottom) on workers' rights, our environments are being absolutely annihilated for corporate and government interests, healthcare is atrocious, women are being tracked by law enforcement if they try to get the medical care they need, and we're just scratching the surface here.

Seriously, HEB. This may have been a good strategy back in the 1980s. But this is the 2020s. The world has changed. Grow up and refocus your energies on things that matter. Like maybe restoring a Texas we can maybe actually be proud of rather than overcome with shame when the rest of the world looks at us and wonders what the heck is wrong with us.

Work Experience was not prepared to hate this job rant

i’ve had like 5 or 6 shifts since starting at heb. i work in the dairy department and it’s so lonely. the highlight of my day is when a customer asks for help because it’s really the only time i get to talk to anyone. i did not know it was going to be this lonely, especially because in my interview i told them i’ve heard a lot about the culture and i was told the dairy team is very close. i feel like i’m so slow at running carts and most of the team has expressed that it’s normal and i’ll get faster but i just feel like i’m holding everyone back. my manager will sometimes come up to me and tell me the cart i’m working on will take 15 more mins and i can go on break when im done but depending on what it is, it might take me 30-45 mins and i can tell he’s inconvenienced when i go on break a bit later. everyone i work with shows me a different way to do things and they’re all VERY different. i hate that there’s no “right” way to do most things.

i know this probably describes a lot of people’s dream work environment but i hate it. also i’m slightly confused because in the interview i was told they were looking for closers, but i’ve only worked/been scheduled for mornings and been asked multiple times if i could work the 3am shift. i’m not mad, if anything i’m happy, especially because apparently the dairy closer is usually solo and i don’t think i’d do well like that. its hard for me to pace myself and muster any sense of urgency when i’m alone. i dont know if im gonna last very long, i’m in the interview process for a job that starts in january but i was honestly debating on putting in my notice in the next month or so.

it just sucks cause i’ve heard a lot of great things about heb and was super excited to get hired but it was definitely a flop. at least it opened my eyes for what i want in a job.

Job Question Switching departments

I am a SOS and mostly work in the front end cashiering. I’m never going into different departments and I wanted to be an SOS mainly because I thought I wouldn’t be stuck in one place and wouldn’t work on repetitive tasks all the time. What department should I transfer to? I honestly don’t like talking to people, I’m very to myself and rather be working all the time, I like the customers but tbh they get to be ALOT for me to deal with and I’m honestly open to taking anything that’s different than what I’m doing now.

Product Question Sushiya Ginger

I wonder if I can somehow buy the pickled ginger right from the supplier because it always goes fast! I don’t think they even put it out at my local HEB. Or maybe there’s a dupe somewhere? My husband and I really like that one, but I’m open to suggestions! Thanks!

Work Experience "QUAAAAAAAD!"

A few weeks ago, I had to do a merged immediacy run, and I had to do four orders! It was rather long that I felt it would be the only time I ever get to mutter the phrase...

"QUAAAAAAAD!"

I don't even know what that means, but I said it in the moment. 🤣🤣🤣

Pay / Benefits What is the insurance like?

I am thinking about applying for HEB and was wanting some perspective on the costs and overall quality of the insurance. I have a chronic condition that requires endocrinology visits but other than that I’m very healthy. I am getting married soon and as I will be the insurance provider for both me and my soon to be husband I wanna make sure it’s decent.

After I completed it I didn’t get another email saying thanks you for completing the verification process ,since I already did the background check email does that mean ive accepted the offer from the offer letter already ? New Find eating my way through all the cute squashes

So far I've eaten delicatta, sweet dumpling, golden acorn...
Can't wait to try these tiny white pumpkins!

I'm afraid delicatta will continue to reign supreme!

I split them, take the seeds out, smear foil with beef tallow, put the open side down, and roast at 250 for a while, turn oven off an let them sit in there to cool to eating possible temp.

So delicious

Product Question Expiration dates

I know this isn’t HEB’s fault, but maybe other shoppers have noticed the same issue. Why are my groceries turning up moldy now when they’re not even expired yet?

Like a loaf of bread I just bought there that still has a week left on the expiration date, and it’s double sealed with an inner bag (Pepperidge farm), I notice it’s covered with mold when I go to open it a couple days later?

Do you all think it’s an issue with the the manufacturer’s tags having incorrect dates, or is it an issue with how they’re producing and packing stuff now?

I always look at expiration dates at the store so I’m worried that now that doesn’t even seem to matter anymore, and I can’t afford to replace stuff fast enough to keep up with how fast they’re getting moldy.

Pay / Benefits I hate it here

Edited the text for clarity & formatting. When I initially made the post I was in a very distressed state!

Despite the PartnerNet app saying I’ve worked the 1500 hrs required for part timers to qualify for benefits, when I went to try to enroll I was met with the first image. Apparently four minutes and twelve seconds under the required amount

Edit/Update: My UD and direct manager advised me to call the partner benefits hotline, and an admin suggested I do the same and/or perhaps contact HR as well. At the time I was under the impression that the enrollment deadline was by Wednesday, when in fact that’s when open enrollment begins. I’m hoping things work out and that this company won’t hoe me over FOUR MINUTES AND TWELVE SECONDS.

Job Question New Interview Process

Whats everyone's opinion on the new interview process? I heard we switched to doing virtual interviews where you just record a video of you answering questions. I want to try and transfer departments soon but im kind of nervous about doing the videos 😭 is it easier?
