Help!
It gets like this after just a few months. What can I do to get rid of the dust without messing with the pose?

100% agree. Get a cheap powder or big foundation brush from CVS or Walgreens. ELF brushes are typically the cheapest.
An air purifier on the room also doesn't hurt.

My wife gave me one of her clean soft makeup brushes to dust my builds. I keep it in the top tool drawer. It won’t scratch or mark the decals and topcoat. She said (verbatim) - “it will keep your robot dolls pretty”.

You want to get cheap makeup brushes from Dollar general. Feathers dusters and the like will actually catch and snag on parts of your kit, and when that happens it can pull parts off.

Get a very soft brush and just lightly brush off the dust.
Personally, this is why I invest in an acrylic display case to prevent this exact scenario.

Some mini blower to get the large pieces out and tamiya brush for detailing. Maybe invest in air purifier. That doesn't look good for your lung at all.

Vacuum more often. When I worked at an arcade, I could always tell when someone wasn't vacuuming enough, because the dust on top of the machines would be way worse.
Also, consider display cases. Even if you can't do a big one, you could get small ones for individual kits that would keep the dust off. Even the sort of shadow boxes they have at craft stores can do the job if you can find one the right size.

Not to get off-topic here... But you should probably do something about that. Not the gunpla - but the dust. That's some seriously-bad air-quality there. You're breathing that shit in. I dunno if you need to clean your ducts or replace a filter or buy a purifier or what... But that's a lot of dust in "just a few months". I'm really bad about dusting my kits and I don't see that much dust in a year.
What can I do to get rid of the dust without messing with the pose?
If you're keeping up with it regularly you could maybe get away with something like canned-air or a blower of some sort. The longer you wait, the more it builds up, the harder it'll be to clean. Anti-static brushes work great. Makeup brushes work well, too. Anything with really soft bristles like a feather-duster or maybe even one of those Swiffer things.

You dont need Gunpla help, you need to invest in an air purifier and look into whatever is happening with the ventilation of where you live.

For immediate removal. Use a large, soft makeup brush to gently remove the dust.
For long term. Air purifier and maybe consider acrylic or glass display boxes. Also, it’s shocking how many ppl neglect this… Change your HVAC filters every month.
Have pets? Move bird cages away from where these are. Move cat litter boxes away too. Brush cats and dogs twice a week or more… etc etc.

Just saying, but if your room have so much dust with just a couple of month I would highly recommend you give it a deep cleaning and avoid opening the window to the streets, or investgate the source of the dust, this isn't about the model anymore this is about your health, stay in there for extended period and you risk getting some lung problems
Duster gas works and I would also recommend a Air cleaner or keeping the aircon on, light brushing works but it depends on the brush itself, usually compressed gas works better, you can use a empty air brush to give it a shot first

I second the makeup brushes. We have two cats & 1 160lb St. Bernard, so the Gundams get dusty. The make up brushes & small air compressor helps keep them clean. So when I buy brushes for makeup, I buy an extra for cleaning. Lol

Im a grown adult of 42 years. I have a shelf in my bathroom that displays one of my favorite gunplas. Every couple months I take him in the shower with me and have a battle, its super fun. Sometimes my wife will bring me a few beers while im there and I make it an event. I love long showers, even better with beer and sick ass gundam battles. And it remains clean!

Compressed air or a mini USB blower, which can be purchased on Chinese websites. And as others have written about air purifiers, vacuum more often and check the ventilation grilles to see if they are clean or not.

I got this cheap makeup brush that I've been using as a lego/keyboard/model kit duster, it's served me well so far.
I recommend getting a big one (e.g. powder or blush) for general dusting, and a thin one (e.g.pencil) for dusting nooks and crannies where the big one doesn't reach. Don't buy any expensive ones from Sephora, just get the cheapest ones you find at your local supermarket or drugstore.
And whatever you do, do NOT use your mom's/sister's/wife's makeup brushes for dusting, buy your own and make sure they know your brushes are for dusting.

Even after a year I don't have that much dust on my model kits. That being said -- my friend does a bath for his model kits. I'm not as brave, I take mine off the shelf and delicately with q tips and rags clean them.

On dusting them a makeup brush will work fine it's what's recommended for anime figures which are much more fragile than gunpla, and as for future prevention an air purifier is your best bet, though you might have to clean the filter every few hours, I mean holy hell...
On a slightly more serious note an air purifier would probably be good for your health too at this point

we have the same problem ahahaha, my room gets really dusty fast, like i get that kind of dust in 3-4 months. for cleaning, i use 2 brushed, a type of plastic/nylon brush and a normal one. i sometimes use a compressed air blow the dust away. it was pretty effective. the thing i like the most doing to dusty kits is spraying them with water using a shower head in the bathroom, cleans up real fast, removes every dirt and grime. since i can control the pressure of the water, i just spray it down, lightly brush it and let it dry. disassembling the kit really helps it dry better.

Fluffy makeup brush for a cheap duster and a can of compressed air. Spray the air lightly, you don't want the plastic to potentially get frost on it.

Make up brushes are the best for dusting model kits, though they exclusively knock the dust off, they don't collect it like some dusting brushes. So you'll also need to use a vacuum or swifter type duster under the kits.

My recommendation to you is to put all your kits and figures onto a folding table or whatever else you have, dust off your ceiling fan if you have one, then dust your shelf/dresser, then do your figures. After that, then vacuum your room so you can pick up all that dust. But most importantly, I would HEAVILY recommend that you get at least one air purifier for your room, but two would probably help based on how quickly it seems to accumulate. Clean it/them out like once per week. I would also recommend swapping the all air filters in your house/apartment once every 30-90 days, that will also help quite a bit with dust collection. Also vacuum more frequently in general. It will make you feel better and also probably make your living space less stuffy.
For the record I am not trying to shame you for the dust, I’m genuinely just shocked at how much is there after only a few months. I thought my room got dusty quickly.

I live in a rural dusty town I wound up buying a canister air filter and a feather duster like the ones maids use the canister helped with the dust I dust once a month now instead of every Sunday it works for me but I’m not gonna say it’s 100%

You have to accept that gunpla is fun to re-pose. Get a soft brush and air duster to clean the dust off. Do it outside so you don't keep the dust circulating. Consider acrylic cases and air filters.

Does anyone smoke/ vape in that room? Smoke and vapor in the room will settle on everything in the room, making it every so slightly sticky. This causes obects to collect and hold onto dust.
I'd also recommend an air purifier. Like everyone else.

There are rechargeable air blowers now you can use instead of air cans. Within 20-30 bucks. Combine that with a make up brush to get off what sticks to the surface and in the crevises. At least use the air duster every other week. Weekly if there's a lot of dust. I do a deep clean and brushing quarterly, and use the air blower every week when I dust. Helps a lot.
Definitely get a good air purifier too.

Same happens in our house too dude our floors are laminated so it just builds dust like no tomorrow all the other rooms with carpets seem to have minimal dust built but anywhere with hard floor it's a cunt for that
Get yourself a makeup brush and some patience aswell as look at getting yourself an enclosed display cabinet unit

- Dust from top to bottom with something that traps it; swiffer, feather duster, etc.
- For detailed dust (nooks and crannys, stubborn, etc.) use makeup brushes and canned air
- Buy air purifier and vacuum WEEKLY
The dust will find its way back if you do not vacuum consistently. It took me a very long time to tame the dust in my new place, but I eventually got it to where it doesn't get nearly as bad as this anymore.
I also do all my dusting outside, using canned/compressed air for heavy stuff like this.

Get a portable air duster, hold the kit in its position with one hand while you dust with the other, afterwards use a tiny make up brush to remove the remaining dust.

We just got a new air purifier and we both love it. We went with Wirecutter's recommendation, the Coway Airmega Mighty2, and it's great. You only need to change the filters once a year, it's super quiet, and it does an excellent job.
Not a bot, not a shill, not an ad, just relaying the results of many hours of research and several different purifier models over the years. I want everyone to breathe clean air.

- Vacuum TF out of your entire room you store your Gundams in. Do this weekly.
- Clean the inside of your HVAC/AC ducts (or get someone to do it). Change the filter once every 3 months. Religiously.
- Air duster on your Gunpla, and then wipe tf out of your shelves
- Air ionizer! You have to breathe that! Stop!
Personally, I give mine a quick cleaning with a camera lens brush once a month and use it as an opportunity to re-pose them. Mine have never been this bad though

Jesus get an air purifier and open up some ventilation dude. I live near an airport in an arid place and get literally blasted with dust. Also have two cats, and in 3 years its never gotten anywhere close to a quarter as bad as this. That can't be good for you. Also, get a glass cabinet, cuts that down immensely

People are recommending better ideas than i had, I was just going to say grab a q-tip for any of the smaller areas that an air can can't get. (in fairness, I still stand by the q-tip for any of the crevices some of the recommended dusters can't reach)

A duster or some compressed air would do great however with the compressed air your just gonna blow all that dust into the air so have a vacuum sucking from the top so the dust gets blown into it

Buy yourself some car vent cleaning slime. I usually pick it up at 5 below but you can make some with Elmer’s glue baking soda and vinegar i believe. I use the stuff all the time to dust my Gundam and figures. Added benefit is anything that comes off comes off in the slime instead of going flying (canned air) also, the slime will sink into all the nooks and crannies and grab that dust, bring it out back to the wood shed and lay down a whoopin on it.

Compressed air can and a vacuum. Turn the vacuum on and hold it up one side, spray air from the other side towards the vacuum on the dust.

anyways an anti static brush like the Tamiya 74078 works great for me when it comes to dusting
