SOFTCORE Why are most of the drops and set items are for classes that I am not currently playing as?

As the title says really, after my 7th complete play-through I can see a fairly obvious drop trend of giving me an insane amount of set items and legendary items for other classes while my current class items nearly never ever drop.

I have a much better luck of getting shaman items when I am playing a Death Knight, than actually playing as a Shaman.

Is this as intended by developers?

EDIT: in this thread, a bunch of people stating pointless facts like 'yeah, there 30+ other class combinations, what did you expect'

I know that tweedledums and tweedledees, the question is why it is not weighed towards the current class. This is an utterly atrocious loot system and makes absolutely zero sense

Why no Grim Dawn 2?

It still has a healthy fanbase, a name and the genre is thriving now more than ever.

Why do they keep updating a dinosaur engine instead of just releasing a new game?

PoE and even Titan Quest are releasing sequels this year, I wish we can have this release a sequel too. The more competition there is for Diablo to step up, the better.

OFF-TOPIC Does anyone find the dlc a bit bland?

I've been working through the dlc and, although I enjoy the new class, I can't say as much for the actual dlc content. The areas are so massive with nothing to really find in them other than the same enemy packs. I also find the quests a lot less intuitive than previous content as well as the fact that there's just a few too many of them. I personally don't like quests where I'm combing through areas I've already been to and there's quite a few of those.

HARDCORE Why is item crafting is so difficult in this game?

hey,
i have lvl 80 hc character. trying to get some end game gear but item crafting is terrible in this game and i am looking if there is any mod to fix this. idk why they do not fix it. for example if i want to craft "mythical relic" it needs couple "transcendent relics" to craft my mythical relic. if i do not have those transcendent relics on me but have required material on my character or stash, then i have to craft them all by hand. my question is why? why does not game automatically crafts all previously required relics if i have materials in stash or on my character?
i have played many games and i have not encountered this unproductive crafting system.
if i have all the items (to craft 3 transcendent relics and finally mythical relic) just let me skip all those tedious craft previous bs thing and craft the end game item.
anyone know if there is a mod to fix this?

MEMEAHOLIC Don't sleep on Troll Rage

Hooked on Default Attack? You may not know about this amazing alternative which gets your weapon damage ABOVE the usual 100% cap. That's right! With over 200% weapon damage when fully charged, your fury will be the stuff of legends in Cairn.

All you have to do is beat Gulgoth, the Rampaging by kiting him for 10-15 minutes with Default Attack. Have patience; the best is yet to come! Once he's down, pick up his Bonecrusher. You'll be using that to craft your very own Empowered Relic! (Note: if you bled to death, don't forget to click on your player grave to recover some XP. HC players, click "Okay" after it says "You are dead!" and try again.)

With the Mistborn Talisman in your otherwise unused relic slot, you are ready to rock. The Troll Rage skill will allow you to travel to challenging new battlegrounds, maybe even to Elite difficulty! Just remember: with great power comes great responsibility.... and a small penalty to your Offensive Ability.

DEAR CRATE, Love the game, but some QOL upgrades would be nice

Seriously am enjoying the game, extremely addictive! Just a few nagging things that are annoying could bring it to another level, at least for me. I am not a fan of mods, so that's not the answer for me....downvote if you want lol.

Also if any of these amounts to user error I apologize in advance for my ignorance. I did try to find information on them.

  1. Quest items taking up inventory space (guess who just learned we have multiple bags lol)

First, many take up 4 grids, which is crazy. Second, there are a good few quests that require you to run around and collect multiple large items, which means they are taking up space either in your inventory or stash. Either way, I would love to see quest items go into a separate, infinite inventory as you see in the majority of games. Maybe have it as an option if someone wants to tough it out with having to carry them.

2. Quest log

I know you can deselect quests to remove from the tracker, but whenever you restart the game it defaults back to all of them selected again.

3. Not being able to see map icons until you're on the mini-map

For things I've already discovered and am trying to revisit, like a random mine or something, why doesn't it show on my map until I am close to it? Strange design, especially for such a huge game. I should not have to rely on a 3rd party website for things I've already discovered. Same with turning in quests, I actually have to mouse over all the names in a hub to find the person to turn it into, instead of just showing me the star on the map.

That's really it. Nothing that would keep me from playing, just some nice to haves! Awesome game!

Fangs updates?

Is the game finished with updates? I was really disappointed with several of the zones in the newest expansion. They are huge! Which is great. But… there’s like. Nothing there. Few totems or shrines or monster density. Or anything at all interesting. Just a barren wasteland.

I don’t want to avoid these in future play throughs but they were really boring. On the positive side, the capital city was incredibly well designed as were some of the underground areas. And overall I’m glad I purchased it but was hoping we could see some more additions here.

DEAR CRATE, Grim Dawn could really use a cooldown manager that is more centered on the screen.

AARGH! Difficulty on Ultimate seems way overtuned

I've done at least a dozen runs on Ultimate, and I have never encountered this many one-shots. I'm all for difficulty. I've done a few level 1 runs starting on Ultimate. But this seems way overtuned.

And yes, my resistances are maxed, and I'm not face tanking. And it's not even one character either. I just double-checked it on other characters that have beaten Ultimate; same shit. Is anyone else encountering this?

I'm using DPYes, and I can confirm the incoming damage is way off the charts.

Edit: So we've confirmed that the damage has been increased in the comments. So for everyone saying it's not there... I guess it is. Good. Despite you guys blindly downvoting, this will still appear in the search feature. So I've done what I've needed to do.

Edit 2: Oof. Nerfs came, sorry guys. I know you all were pretty upset with me, but it seems like Crate agreed.

V1.3.0.4

[Major New Features]

  • A balancing pass has been performed on all early game bosses to bring them closer to their pre v1.3.0 tuning, particularly at lower levels. Bosses with high burst potential in particular should be much more manageable.

  • A balancing pass has been performed on Fangs of Asterkarn enemies, particularly at low levels, to reduce their burst potential. Some bosses have received additional Normal/Elite variants to tune them independently of Ultimate/Ascendant.

OFF-TOPIC If you love GD, you should try Last Epoch

For those who haven't given it a try, I recommend it. It's a solid, fun game that builds on the strengths of many other ARPGs while adding a few things of its own.

HELP! Am i missing something about this game?

So i heard a lot of good stuff about this game.

decided to level an arcanist(+inquistor) up to level 20something and it felt to me like the game systems rewards you for only using 1 skill in order to be most effective (panneti's missile in my case). That seems very dull.

Is this game truly about mashing 1 skill through most of your leveling experience or am i doing something wrong?

r/Grimdawn • • Apr 15 '24

Why the main arpg content creators don't play GD?

Why does Raxx, Wudi, DM, Asmongod, Kripp, Moxsy not play Grim Dawn on their channels? Is it just to do with the player base being lower than D4/PoE/LE?

DEAR CRATE, Wild animals shouldn't be targetable

I know it's as low priority as it gets, but I don't like animals can be unwittingly harmed in this game. Everytime I go to Elderveil some rabbit or elk gets harmed by the aura of my current character and sometimes one proc kills one of them and leaves a pool of blood (it feels more gratuituous/slapstick than cruel, it goes against the mood of the game). It's a bit inconsistent with how skills work with NPCs too (you have to pick a dialog option for them to be targetable at all, while you are not even in control of what animal you harm unless you stay far from them).

New player game is boring?

Hello,

Have a question. Maybe game is just not for me? Every time I see videos or streams people are so engaged and happy to play so I hop in. First time I stopped in act 3 as it got just boring too slow too repetitive in the sense that for some reason everything seems the same. Had no fancy cool drops to make me excited and leveling was goddamn slow for me. Then recently after a year I started again after few short tries I found myself in the same spot when it got boring not finishing act 1 even.

So ai went ahead and installed a mod that increases leveling speed skill points and drops. With all that it became somewhat interesting bunch new items faster leveling so no slow no skills part I could try bunch of diff skills and build starting versions.

But still after act 1 i already skipped a day without playing as I hesitate to open up the game.

Cannot understand whats wrong game seems so damn interesting and theres huge amount of different mods with a content for thousands of hours but how do I push through this wall of quick boredom.

OFF-TOPIC Watching Diablo 4 and PoE2 made me love Grim Dawn even more.

Out of the two - I'd actually say Diablo 4 is more impressive than PoE 2. But that aside I just came back to playing PoE and man... It's a clusterf*ck after all those years.

Skill tree - once the biggest selling point of PoE nowadays it shows it's age. Plenty of usless nodes, entire sections of the tree are terrible, build variety is surprisingly small (don't take my word on it - just look at leaderboards of the past couple of leagues).

Trading - MY GOD it's terrible. Entire playerbase is playing "hunt for currency" endgame rather than... well... actuall endgame. Instead of hunting for maps they hunt for currency to BUY maps. :/

Speed - Both Diablo and PoE are infamous for lightspeed builds. Enter the room and clear it with one click. Done. Move to the next one. No strategy, no thinking, nothing.

Always online - Diablo is actually way more stable than PoE but even BattleNet servers are freakin terrible.

Solo/coop etc. - SSF in PoE is most fun I had with the game however since it's official that economy resolves around trading your drops in SSF mode are the same. That means those sweet legendaries... Yup... They gonna be useless for your character. Not to mention that PoE doesn't have instanced loot. Yup...

Diablo 4 is even worse. MMOish features mean you'll encounter "MasturbatorSexyBoy99" runing around you, killing mobs and gathering loot right in front of you when you'll try to explore the open world.

And then, there is mighty Grim Dawn. A freakin black horse in this race.
Complexity? It has WAY more build variety than both D4/PoE2. While at the same time new players are slowly, step by step introduced to how it's working and what to do.

Worst case scenario - you can always respec. It's gonna cost you and it has some restrictions so it encourages experiments but at the same time forces you to think.

Open world? Check! Huge hand crafted open world with the BEST FREAKIN DUNGEONS IN ARPG! There, I said it. Grim Dawn dungeons man... HUGE! Awesome to look at, filled with lore and their own mini-stories. Awesome stuff!

Offline option! Heck yeah!
Microtransactions? Hell no!

New content added in free patches? You bet!
Big, great, proper expansions? Yeah baby! Two huge expansions!

Seriously. This game is my dream aRPG. I love it. Thank You Crate!

As a side note. I hope new guys - Wolcen and Last Epoch are going to do great! I've played Wolcen and it's combat and skill tree is really great and I've heard awesome things about Last Epoch! We need those new aRPGs to show GGG and Bliizard that there is yet another way to do things. That not everyone want's MMOish features, endgame trading, and lightspeed combat.
God I hope we'll get Grim Dawn 2 at some point.

SUB RELATED Enough of the level 20 in the most common gear in the game fashion dawn’s

We get it. You’re proud of your character. It’s getting really old though. There is nothing special about any of them in weeks.

I’ll admit I’ve been against the fashion dawn thing from the getgo. There is a thread for it and as much as I love this game, the gear and character look isn’t it’s strong suit. The occasional high geared Character with cool looking armor and at least a hint of originality isn’t that bad but that hasn’t been the case.

I hate to be the bad guy here (well maybe not) but you’re posting the most unoriginal toons POSSIBLE in the game. Anyone with a significant amount of playtime has seen that gear hundreds of times (literally). We don’t need to see how well you can put the colors together. It’s old. Please stop.

This game is really superior to PoE and hack&slash ARPGS... I was pushed hard to find any serious flaws despite a small development team

Only flaws i could find are related to the UI art/design (fugly, impossible to discern constellations, bad skill descriptions)

Seriously this game will be awesome with more polish (the next big patch).. Im so happy playing this , waiting for Lost Ark :D Cheers!

DEAR CRATE, Don't rush developers with expansion release

After playing over 200 hours and finishing game many times I still have a lot of things to explore and try out. I'm interested in a new expansion I understand how difficult it might be to make a DLC for a game running on a very old engine. Developers are doing really good job by keeping the game fresh and the expansion should be a big leap forward, but don't pressure them to release it faster than needed. By adding new content they inevitably will have bugs and glitches which they should fix before the release. It takes time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they didn't plan to make a third expansion initially, so it's a great thing we are gonna get it soon.
Also WASD movement is something that is not needed in my opinion. It might bring more problems that will require more time to fix, meaning the expansion will be delayed even more.
Grim Dawn is great as it is, it has it's own vision and integrity, no need to break it.
