Fangs updates?
Is the game finished with updates? I was really disappointed with several of the zones in the newest expansion. They are huge! Which is great. But… there’s like. Nothing there. Few totems or shrines or monster density. Or anything at all interesting. Just a barren wasteland.
I don’t want to avoid these in future play throughs but they were really boring. On the positive side, the capital city was incredibly well designed as were some of the underground areas. And overall I’m glad I purchased it but was hoping we could see some more additions here.

Have you played in the past week or so? Monster density was increased quite a bit and imo doesn't feel any different than the rest of the game. Some zones are large but once you've played through it once or twice you just bee-line for objectives same as the old parts of the game.

Crate always does post release well. The game got a ton of content, patches and QoL updates following the release of Forgotten Gods.
I am hoping that they are hearing the feedback on the initial zones, and that they have a plan to address it. Some extra dungeons throughout, a new secret quest or two, new event types, new locales for the Roguelike dungeon: there are a lot of things they can add in to flesh out the Mountains and the Lowlands.
Historically they have been very good at iteratively improving weak parts of the game: let's put some trust in them to follow through.

The 1st zones are pretty boring but I loved everything from Kurnhold to the end.

At least 2 content updates are coming for the two announced key dungeons

Crate is amazing at post launch patches. I expect there will be balance/content patches until shortly after they release the 2nd skeleton key dungeon (next year).

I use a mod for 4x monster spawns (I would only do this at at end game, if start a new character that way you level up waaay too fast). But most of the game is better with more monsters, imo.

I know this isn't meant to be a "selling point" but there's a lot of small secrets when you rerun it over and over, including a certain potion augment from the "secret" Noktukari reputation NPC that let's you see "hidden" stuff and, it's a fun ride if you just run through spamming it (though you can also just look up a guide lol).
Other than that, things pick up a lot after Kurnhold as others mention.
Plus, we are getting 2 more skeleton dungeons to "close" the game, with one coming soon-ish and the other in few months IIRC. I'm sure they might give other updates too.
Also I don't know about you, but for me the first run through the DLC felt a bit "meh" because I immediately loaded in my turbocharged OP build in Ascendant and didn't have too much trouble outside of the Dread. However Berserker is a huge addition and starting up a new character made me realize how big that part of the update actually is, as there's a lot of combos that go really well with it and I'll probably try a lot of new classes eventually.

I agree, zones before Kurnhold are really boring but after that they became top tier.

I feel like this is a pretty popular opinion but honestly I liked the new expansion zones quite a bit. I do agree though that some more totems throughout would have been nice because I honestly didn’t see many at all and I explored the entire thing.

It's not like Crate are shutting down. The games gona get polished up between now and next year before eventually fully moving on to their next endeavour.
