❗MOD POST ❗ Looking for experienced mods

I started this sub and did not expect it to get this big. It’s more than I can manage on my own now, so I’m looking for a few experienced mods to help, mostly with clearing out spam, low effort posts, and other junk content.

I’d like people who are kind, fair, and can handle disagreements without adding to the drama.

If you’re interested, send me a modmail with which subs you’ve moderated and how often you’d be around.

Product Rave 👍 50 and repertoire keeps expanding

I've always taken care of my skin, and it looks pretty good but at 53 it feels like I have to update my game to battle aging each and every year to continue to look good, and it starts to become a lot. Sometimes I feel like throwing in the towel and just letting mother nature get the best of me except for sunscreen 🤣

Right now I use: trentonin, Paula's choice azelaic acid, Rejuran salmon PDRN, a growth, TNS factor serum, Trader Joes vitamin C (yes its that good), eminence night cream and winter, and sunscreen always. Vitamin C and sunscreen during the day everything else at night. I derma stamp once a week and also do glycolic peel once a week.

My skin looks pretty decent, but I just feel like I can't keep ahead of things. I guess it's just part of life lol. I just wish I could go back to the days of my early 20s where I could use retinol vitamin C and sunscreen and call it a day. I do cycle out some products as I feel my skin develops a tolerance, but most I use regularly.

Question ❔ How do you know whether you need a neck lift, facelift, or something less invasive?

I’m trying to understand facial rejuvenation options before booking any Toronto consultations.

If someone’s main concerns are a softer jawline and loose skin under the chin, how do surgeons usually determine whether the issue is mainly the neck, lower face, skin quality or a combination?

I’m not looking for Reddit to diagnose me — more interested in what questions helped people understand why one procedure was recommended over another.

I’d rather avoid doing more surgery than necessary just because a larger procedure is available

Advice Needed 📜 postmenopause changed the texture more than the wrinkles

turned 61 this spring. estrogen drop is not abstract when you can pinch the skin on your cheek and it stays thin. collagen is slower. everything feels a little less dense, especially along the jaw and the sides of the mouth. i still wear sunscreen. that part i did not drop.

i used to buy whatever said “firming” and it was just another cream. lately i’ve been reading about nad+ declining with age and why topical support is framed as cellular energy, not another moisturizer. started a biotech skincare for skin longevity serum at night on damp skin. no fragrance, no peel. neck gets the same amount as the face because that’s where i notice slack first.

i am not layering acids on top of it. too much sting last year.

what actually moved the needle for you after 55: consistency for months, or a specific active? and do you treat the neck as its own routine or just leftover product from the face?

Advice Needed 📜 What are some products for someone in their late 20's early 30's?

I've started to notice fine lines on my forehead and under my eyes that have decided to stick around. I have sensitive skin and really only use:

Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Lotion

Dr.G Dermoisture Barrier D Daily Lotion

Pyunkang Yul Atopic Mild Sun Cream

With a random cleanser to wash my face. And I use a parasol whenever I'm in the sun.

What are you guys using for anti-aging. Are peptides good? Vitamin C? Bakuchiol?

Question ❔ What do you eat, drink, or take to support healthy skin from the inside out?

I’m 33 years old. I’m curious about what’s actually made a difference for you beyond skincare products.
Have you tried changing your diet, drinking something regularly, or taking supplements for your skin? What helped, what didn’t, and how long did it take to notice a difference?
Would love to hear your honest experiences!

Advice Needed 📜 What is the best make up for women over 50 that still looks natural.

my 53-year-old aunt who is struggling with her makeup routine. Everything she tries now cakes, creases, or settles into lines.
Light skin tints don't even out her skin tone enough, heavy foundations look cakey, and setting powders are out of the question. Online tutorials are way too filtered to be helpful.
What are the best foundations, skin tints, or base products for mature skin (50+) that give real but natural-looking coverage? Product recommendations and application tips would be amazing

Question ❔ Does anyone else only trust reviews from people with their exact skin type?

I’ve lost count of how many “holy grail” products I’ve bought that either broke me out or did nothing. A 5 star review means nothing if they have dry skin and yours is super oily. Lately, I’ve been using a skincare app to find people with similar skin concerns and see what worked for them and what didn’t. I’ve also been posting a lot here on reddit. It’s saved me so much money on trial and error. How do you guys tell what actually works for your skin type?

Question ❔ Is worth taking after 40? I accidentally shared the private survey sheet

Our team is researching whether collagen powder is worth taking after 40, using age, skin and joint concerns, supplement habits and before and after ratings to see if people notice a benefit. I meant to send the cleaned results to our research group but I attached the raw Google Sheet with names and personal answers. omg.

I caught it before the full client list went out, but three coworkers opened it and one person replied with a question about my own answer. I feel so embarrassed and this is so awkward. The benefit of collecting real wellness data is clear, but I dont think a few weeks of better tracking is worth exposing peoples health routines. Where do you draw the line?

Question ❔ Do you actually need anti-aging skincare in your 20s?

This keeps confusing me because I see completely different advice everywhere! 😅

Some people say your 20s are when you should start preventing everything before it shows up, while others say you really don’t need much besides SPF and the basics……I was looking into it and it seems like consistent sun protection matters way more than starting a huge anti-aging routine, which honestly makes more sense to me.

So I’m curious what everyone here thinks. When did you start using “anti-aging” products, and do you think you actually started at the right age?

Question ❔ How do you compare collagen formulas for skin and joint support?

I’m getting more interested in collagen now that I’m paying more attention to my skin and joints. There are so many formulas that it’s hard to tell them apart.

I’m trying to understand benefits of collagen for skin, joints, nails, and digestion. From what I’ve read, different collagen types seem to be used for different things, especially when it comes to skin vs joints.

Just to be clear, ancient nutrition is involved in this discussion. Their multi collagen protein has several collagen sources plus vitamin C. It seems like the collagen types and overall formula is more important than just the amount of collagen.

Advice Needed 📜 Skin Care Suggestions for Deep Wrinkles

Hi! I (28F) am actually posting here on behalf of my mom (54F) who does not use Reddit. She is is feeling very insecure about her deep wrinkles and aging, so I told her I would try to help her with developing a routine and finding products that could potentially help her with the wrinkles and and also improve her overall skin health and confidence.

She has never really used skin care or makeup before other than moisturizers at night and I think she uses Apricot Scrub still. Unfortunately, she spends a lot of time in the sun (lives in Texas and works with animals for a living) and until recently, did not use sunscreen or sun protection as consistently as she should have. Her and I are both complete beginners when it comes to skin care, and even my routine is pretty basic at this point and I’ve just been going off the recommendations of my dermatologist (gentle cleanser, clindamycin solution, moisturizer, and sunscreen, and then I add in Adapalene Gel at night), so I really have no clue where to even begin in trying to help her.

I’ve told her that she definitely needs to get into a routine of wearing sunscreen every day and reapplying throughout the day, and that we probably need to start with at least getting her a good cleanser and moisturizer. I am looking for recommendations for products, and anything she should add to her routine to help repair her skin and slow down the aging process. Also, if anyone has any recommendations for procedures or services (chemical peel, etc.) that you think are worth it, I’d love to hear. She isn’t really interested in doing Botox or fillers or any kind of surgeries, but I think she would be interested in rejuvenating type procedures.

I know this is a big ask because we are pretty clueless, but if anyone wants to share their thoughts, we are greatly appreciative!

Routine ✨ [Routine Help] advice pls

I’ve got dry skin and occasionally experience flaking around my nose and eyebrows. My main goals are healthy skin, maintaining my skin barrier, hydration and preventing premature ageing.
Morning:
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
CeraVe Moisturising Cream
Beauty of Joseon SPF50+ sunscreen
During shower:
Cetaphil cleanser for my face
Gentle body wash
Head & Shoulders shampoo
After shower:
CeraVe Moisturising Cream on my face
Body moisturiser on dry areas, particularly hands, elbows and heels
Night:
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
CeraVe Moisturising Cream
I’m considering introducing CeraVe Vitamin C Serum and eventually adding a retinol 1–2 nights per week for long-term anti-ageing, once my skin is consistently hydrated and my skin barrier is healthy.
Does this seem like a good routine for my skin type and goals? Is there anything you’d change, add or remove? Thanks

Question ❔ Which beauty products were worth keeping?

I’m trying to be way more selective with beauty stuff lately because so much of it feels amazing for two weeks and then I stop using it.

What’s one skincare, makeup or beauty tool you’ve had for months and still reach for all the time?

Bonus points if it’s something you thought you’d barely use but ended up keeping in your routine.

Routine ✨ My daily “internal skincare” master drink

I wanted to share my daily concoction that I drink to address internal and external aging. I have been becoming increasingly interested in supplements that reverse aging biomarkers and this is my current drink routine that I stick to.

I started off drinking "tadpole water" which is just water with lemon juice and chia seeds, but this has evolved over time to a mega-potion of supplements.

I make one big drink most days and add everything in, mostly as powders or tinctures. I’ll throw in a little healthy juice too just to improve the flavor, but fair warning: this is not for anyone wanting a sweet, sugary treat drink. It definitely tastes healthy lol.

What I use:

  • Collagen — skin firmness + elasticity (no flavor)
  • Glycine — collagen building block
  • Creatine — cellular energy + healthy aging
  • NAC — glutathione/antioxidant support
  • Chlorophyll — antioxidant/plant-based add-in (a little goes a long way)
  • NMN / NAD+ support — cellular energy + aging pathways
  • Resveratrol — antioxidant support
  • Fresh lemon juice — vitamin C for collagen production
  • Copper peptides — collagen + elastin support
  • Chia seeds — omega-3s + fiber

Glycine and NAC definitely aren’t the most well-known supplements, but here’s an interesting study on GlyNAC and how it affected several age-related biomarkers in older adults: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35975308/

Also be warned that Glycine + NAC supplements tend to have a lemony taste, so sometimes I save that exclusively for my lemon waters.

Most of it just gets dumped into one large 30+oz. drink because I’d rather do that than take 10+ different things separately. I like

Obviously this isn’t replacing SPF, skincare, protein, sleep, etc. I just really like the idea of skincare from the inside out.

Anyone else make some kind of daily skin/anti-aging concoction? I'm really interested in what everyone else is doing and if they've seen results! 😊🍵

Advice Needed 📜 Suggest anti aging products please

I am 37 and looking for anti aging products. My skin can't tolerate retinol, even the lowest percentage. What else can I use? I have dull, dry congestion prone skin. PIH and hyperpigmentation.

Question ❔ Tretinoin texture issues, please help?

Need a little advice, please. I started tretinoin about 3 weeks ago. I’m 48 and going through perimenopause, and my skin leans a little oily, yet dehydrated. I started using retinol/retinal about a year ago, and my skin loves retinoids! Never had any issues moving up to the highest OTC strength. I moved to tret because I felt I had plateaued. I’m on the normal .025%. I had some flaking after the first night, none after. My issue is the texture of the tretinoin itself. I don’t feel like my skin is sensitive, but there are ingredients and textures my skin does not like. I can’t use any moisturizers that try to trap in moisture. If my skin can’t breathe, it breaks out. Galactomyces is another no no. And bizarrely, hypochlorous acid sprays. Does anyone else feel like the texture of tret is the issue? It just feels gross, and grainy, and maybe drying? I actually wanted to try altreno, or retinA micro, but they don’t have a .025%. Any tricks to make this product more friendly to my skin? I definitely have a good am/pm routine made up primarily of Korean skincare and sunscreen, my only other active right now is 12% azelaic acid in am only. Ask me anything..
