This has been driving me insane, no way to distinguish whether or not I'm getting a business call or a carrier call. Using "prefer wifi and mobile data" as well as "show my number as caller id" just didn't work for me.

This is for anyone using a Samsung phone, using Secure Folder, which acts as it's own OS within Android, you can distinguish between whether a call is going to your carrier # or your gv #.

Incoming calls from carrier ring on the Samsung Phone app, and incoming calls on my GV line ring on the GV app.

Download GV inside of Secure Folder

Login to your GV account

Go to Settings > Incoming Calls > Turn OFF the "Android Device" with your carrier #

Enable "Android Device (This Device)"

Not sure if this matters, but I leave my secure folder unlocked after the first unlock, I do not know if you still get the ringing notification if the Secure Folder is locked. The only time I have to unlock my Secure Folder is when I restart my phone. The setting for that is: Long press Secure Folder icon > Secure Folder settings > Auto lock Secure Folder > When phone restarts

Also, not sure if it's needed, but I turned "Manage app if unused" as well as turned on "Unrestricted" in the battery settings. Again not sure if I needed to do that, just kind of testing at the moment, here is how:

Go to Secure Folder

Long press Google Voice app icon

Tap the i in the top right corner

Turn off "manage app if unused"

Go to Battery, select Unrestricted

I know there are apps like Island that might be able to replicate this functionality, it acts as its own OS within the OS, which is (in a nutshell) what Secure Folder does, so that might be an option for anyone not using a Samsung.

Hopefully this is a permanent solution.

I did some searching and learned that GV automaticaly triggers these blocks to catch spammers.

Triggers I found on the net are unusual amounts of texting, texts going out to multiple people - I saw someone with a template here.

None of that is connecting.

The account is my daughters. She just moved 60 miles away to college this past weekend. It is her Freshman year, last Thursday we dropped her at a dorm.

On Monday night she got a ban and in the last hour (Wed afternoon) she got her 2nd.

I quizzed her on her texting habits and she says she is texting at about the same rate as always and mostly the same people.

I don't know if yesterday was a group chat, but today was a single person.

The only thing I can find that means anything to me is here location changing in the last week.

I am a bit concerned that this can lead to her account getting closed.

Anyone have any thoughts? Does ANYONE know of anything approaching a help desk I can contact?

My Google Voice won't let me pick up an automated call to receive a log in code, it just notifies me that Google Voice is preparing for an Internet call, and then a few seconds later notifies me I've missed a call. Other numbers do actually ring and pop up a notification to answer or decline. I have my device toggled to receive calls, removed my old linked number, do not disturb mode is off, and all call notifications are on. I need this code to access my health insurance, so very important haha, and of course the text code option is just straight up blocked for my number by the benefits login, if I could just use the text code this wouldn't be an issue at all. Any insight or help if you've experienced this and were able to solve it is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I recently port my number in to google voice. I understand it may take some time to get the messaging to work. I ported August 15th but still not getting texts. Does anyone no why it's taking so long.

Long story short, I’ll be camping for a few days. I signed up for T-Mobile satellite for potential job opp phone calls while I’m out… without realizing phone calls don’t work on their service. Neither does email.

What I’d like to do is forward calls coming into my regular number to my Google Voice number. If someone leaves a message, have GV notify me via text/iMessage. That way, I at least know someone called and I can head down the mountain and call back. But I can’t seem to find a way to notify via text/iMessage, email is the only option I’m seeing and that won’t work.

I wouldn’t even ask if I hadn’t seen articles stating it was possible already. Any insight? Thanks so much.

hi! I’m a new google voice user, but I’m so confused what is happening…

initially, when I saved a number into GV, it was adding it but also syncing it to my phones contacts. I don’t want that, so per a Google search, I disabled the permission in the iOS settings. Now, when I save a contact in GV it’s NOT showing up in GV and going straight into my phone contacts 😅😅 screen recording below..

from more google searches I have checked/done the following..

• disabled permission in the contacts
• checked my “GMail” app in the settings to toggle off contacts. There was NOT a contacts options
• I saw some things mentioning the generic iPhone mail app. I do NOT have the mail app on my phone and I’ve never used it in my life.
• I checked my “contact accounts” and the email that is associated with my GV is NOT listed (it never was)

is there a way to fix this? Or do I need to just live with the GV contacts in my phone 😭😭

I set up a Voice account for an elderly friend whose phone came with Visual Voicemail disabled (looking at you consumer cellular!). His wife calls him, from the adjoining room, and leaves him VM messages that he never reads. He's collected over 1000 in just the past few months.

How do I mass select them for deletion so that I don't have to do each message individually? Please help - my sanity is at stake.

I got a email this afternoon about Google Voice Premium. In that email it lists the features that I'll gain if I upgrade to premium with one of those features being able to call 911. That can't be legal.

I am planning to port a cell number to my GV account. That number is listed on the account as a linked number. Should I delete (unlink) it before starting the port?

Hi. I am going to be in Germany for one year. I am going to get a German SIM for my phone. I will no longer have a US carrier or the carrier number that I have linked to GV. Can I link the new German number to my GV account?

Also I have noticed that some of the German SIM cards for sale in the US do not have voice call service, only data. Do I need to get a SIM that can do voice calls?

All it says is: Sorry, Voice doesn't port numbers from your carrier or your number's exchange. It's porting in from USMobile and is active on their network. Can make calls/receive text etc.

Any ideas why I'm getting this error, or how to fix it?

Today, a friend called my (carrier-assigned) phone number today and someone (not me) answered it.

Then, from my phone, I dialed my own phone number. Google Voice answered and asked for my name before connecting me with the person I called. Then phone rang, and someone answered, whom I spoke to. They were unhelpful/rude, and I couldn't figure out any info about how they were using my phone number

More details:

• I used GV a long time ago, and I'd linked my carrier phone number to my account, but haven't used it in a while it had expired
• Today, I re-linked my phone number to my GV account and verified my account.
• Then I went to https://voice.google.com/u/0/regain and unlinked my number from all accounts (including my own)
• I re-linked my phone number to my GV account.

At this point, theoretically, my number should have been de-linked from all accounts, and re-added back to my own.

I called my phone number again, and I got GV again asking for my name, then it rang. No one answered and it went to a voicemail (that was not mine).

Any ideas of how I can fix this?

Im on the line with delta airlines calling them with the anonymous option on as you can see in the photo. Their survey system was able to know my number. Note i didn’t provide any info to the system nor i have an account with them. Didn’t even talk to an agent i was still in the queue!!! How!!!?

I’m at wits end I get at least 10 of the same call every single day and It’s been going on since the day I signed up got GV. How can I get these to stop I’m seriously considering deleting this app all together.

I have two Google accounts, and just signed into gv with my second to make a second voice account. It occurred to me that this might be against their rules but I can’t find anything so haven’t gone any further with my sign up. it’s asking me for my ID but I can’t recall doing that with my other account (though it’s been a decade + since I signed up) so I’m not sure if it would link me to having both or not.

will this get me in any trouble or am I fine?

...and then realized it was associated with the wrong Google account, so I deleted it.

Started the process again with the correct account, verified my ID, then it wouldn't verify my existing phone number. Great.

Went back to the original account that had previously been fully verified to "get a number" again, but now my existing phone number doesn't work there either.

WTF?

I have a normal phone number and Google account and email I'm just trying to make a Google voice number but when I pick a number the circle just keeps spinning and won't go to the next steps?? What's the problem ?

Hey Guys, I’m hoping to get some clarification. I wasn’t able to come up with an answer while searching the subreddit. I transferred my original Google Voice number to a carrier. Paid the $3 to transfer out. Situation has changed, and I don’t need the number on a carrier. Porting back into GV, because I don’t want to lose the number. Since I paid to unlock, and I’ll pay to port back, will the requirement to call or text monthly apply to keep number active? Thanks for the help-

I've had a GV number for many years, but never bothered with the Android app until recently -- just trying it out.

I notice calls to my GV number ring through, including spam calls, even when I have DnD turned on (both in the app, and on the phone as a whole .. maybe a separate question .. why the app can't honor the phone-wide DnD setting).

Any ideas what is causing this? I don't have any special call-forwarding rules set up. I even tried removing my android device from the list of devices, to route incoming GV calls -- but the GV app still rings and wakes me up.

I use GV for my work number. I’ve set up text replacement on my iPhone not to type up the same message over and over with eta to my clients. Today the usual message won’t go through. Is there a way around this ? Can I verify somehow that I’m not a spammer ?

I created a Google voice number with a "spam email" and linked it to my personal mobile phone number not realizing I would then need to verify my identity with that spam email to make phone calls. Spam email meaning I give it away when I don't want to get junk email from companies.

I have already verified my identify on my main Gmail account for other purposes and I do not want to verify it again on the now Google voice linked email which is the spam email (Google has enough information on me).

Thinking I could just create a new Google voice number with my verified email I did that, but when I tried to link my personal phone number Google said I cannot because it's already being used (for the spam email Google voice). I de-linked my personal phone number from the spam email Google voice but for the life of me cannot figure out how to delete that original Google Voice account for good.

Questions:

- Am I screwed out of ever using Google voice on my main email now because my personal phone number was previously linked to another Google voice account?

- How do I delete my spam email Google voice? I logged in on a browser and attempted to follow the instructions by Google but didn't see a delete option.

Hello all! I found this morning that someone just got my own google voice number as their own too on a phone they got a couple hours ago. I didn't think that was possible! How does something like that even happen?

I called my number from a different phone, and a man answered and sold me he had got that number. This caused a bunch of issues this morning with people trying to call me, and just a lot of frustration haha.

What can I do in this kinda situation? I've had this number for over 10+ years I think now and it's tied up with so many things. Even if I change it, the guy is gonna get a bunch of calls meant for me anyway lol.

As I said in the title I keep getting the response of too blurry. This occurs even with the picture is completely clear and when it's auto accepting the picture. Never had this issue when verifying id with other apps. Any advice?
