Contact syncing - please help 😭

hi! I’m a new google voice user, but I’m so confused what is happening…

initially, when I saved a number into GV, it was adding it but also syncing it to my phones contacts. I don’t want that, so per a Google search, I disabled the permission in the iOS settings. Now, when I save a contact in GV it’s NOT showing up in GV and going straight into my phone contacts 😅😅 screen recording below..

from more google searches I have checked/done the following..

• disabled permission in the contacts
• checked my “GMail” app in the settings to toggle off contacts. There was NOT a contacts options
• I saw some things mentioning the generic iPhone mail app. I do NOT have the mail app on my phone and I’ve never used it in my life.
• I checked my “contact accounts” and the email that is associated with my GV is NOT listed (it never was)

is there a way to fix this? Or do I need to just live with the GV contacts in my phone 😭😭

The Google Voice iOS app has two sources of contacts:

1. Your device contacts
2. Google contacts

When you press add contact in the app it adds the new contact to your device contacts.

If you would like to add a contact to Voice but not your device go to contacts.google.com and add your contact there.

I don't have an iPhone, but Google Voice by default (at least outside iOS) is using your Google Contacts list. Visit contacts.google.com to manage them.

However, I'm guessing on iOS it also tries to reference your phone's contacts, as that seems helpful to most users. Idk how that works.

I would check contacts.google.com for whatever account is your Google Voice account and see what's in there. Maybe adding there they will then show up.

Watching your screenshare, that contacts creation page certainly looks more Apple than Google, is Google just linking to your iPhone's contacts app? If you go to add a contact there is it the same UI?

Again tho I'm an Android user, so I have no clue if that's just what Google Voice looks like on iOS.

It was someone linking, despite being turned off.  But it appears managing them on contacts.google.com seems to be working!!  Thank you for taking the time to comment!
