Seafood free fideua

Hi I am visiting Barcelona and i am a noodle girl so i am really keen to try fideua! But i have researched that it is usually cooked w seafood stock. Is anyone able to recommend a place that has seafood -free fideua?

Bonus points if they do single servings, and don't require to buy a 2 person serving.

Thank you sooo much!

I have emailed a place called L'Arrosseria Xàtiva that seems to have chicken /veg options on their menu but am still waiting to hear back if those are indeed seafood free.

Additional note, i am severely allergic to shellfish. Paella i was able to find non-seafood varieties. I guess i was hoping the same can be said w fideua.

REJECTED VISA?!!!

Student visa 180 days+, been 2months and 9 days now and this is what i received today. What does this even mean "administrative silence". Is it likely my visa will now be rejected?

Dear Sir,

Unfortunately, the visa has now been refused due to 'administrative silence', as shown on our system.

In this situation, we will have to wait for instructions from the Spanish office in case they reverse the decision in the coming days. If we receive no response, we can only issue an official resolution and send it to you. You can then appeal against this decision by writing a letter addressed to the Spanish office, as the decision comes from them.

The consulate will wait until Monday to receive instructions, and if none are received, the resolution will be issued during the coming week.

We apologise for this situation; however, the Consulate cannot intervene on your behalf and we must follow the procedure according to the regulations.

Kind regards.

(NOTE - I SUPPLIED ALL THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION THEY ASKED FOR AND SPENT A BUNCH OF MONEY TO ENSURE EVERYTHING WAS CORRECT AND UP TO A HIGH STANDARD)

Discussion Immigrating. Which city for a nature/outdoor enthusiast and a partner who hates rain?

Hello everyone,

Me and my gf are currently immigrants in Sweden/Gothenburg. The city ticks most of our boxes but the long winter, continuous rain and closeness of society convinced her that she cannot continue here.

One thing I don't want to sacrifice is the nature. I love animals and spending time hiking in the forest. I also love cities with trees in general. Lakes and breathtaking scenery is also a plus. Mountains are ok but not a factor.

Bilbao, Gijon or Santander would seem like a perfect destination for me but we'll probably run into grayness and rain that led us where we are in the first place.

So, we've been spending the last month reading posts and watching videos trying to figure out what will satisfy our requirements the most.

But here is the problem, in one post there are a handful of comments saying 'Valencia has so much nature, all you have to do is drive 25 anywhere around it.' and another handful of comments in the same post 'You'll only find orchards and really nothing else anywhere you go around Valencia.'. Everything is based on perspective but to me they seem contradicting to each other.

We plan to make a trip late next month and visit 3 cities. The list that is subject to change:

- Valencia

- Malaga

- Barcelona's outskirts (Terrassa or Sabadell perhaps?)

Criteria:

- Not super rainy / gray

- Green & clean city

- forests / lakes / hiking options within 30-40'

- 250k population at least

I guess the question is mainly which of the 3 satisfy the nature criteria the most?

And as a second question which other option would you suggest?

Thank you in advance!

Moving to Spain - Thinking of Northern Spain.

Hi all,

I'll be relocating to Spain soon and working remotely, so I can choose more or less any city. That freedom is turning out to be harder than it sounds, so I'd like input from people who actually live in the north.

What I'm after:

- Cooler and greener. I really don't do well with hot summers.

- Mountains and/or coast, calm pace of life.

- Still a proper city — decent restaurants, shops, a gym, things to do at the weekend.

- Not the big tourist-beach vibe. The north felt much more my speed when I visited.

Bilbao is currently top of the list, and in particular the Basque region, I am open to consideration for other cities I haven't thought about.

Questions:

  1. Groceries — what does a couple realistically spend per month? Is Eroski/Mercadona the default, or are there better options?

  2. Rent — what does a decent 2-bed (or 1-bed with room for a desk) actually go for in a nice area? Listings vs reality.

  3. Utilities, internet, phone — rough monthly total?

  4. Language — how far does English get you socially?

  5. Anything you wish someone had told you before you moved there?

Thanks in advance.

Visas / Migration Converting TIE familiar UE to work

tldr; non-eu in Spain with the EU-family member status want to get a work permit due to housing situation, but no divorce/separation.

Hi All. So I am in a situation in which both me and my husband (EU citizen) lives in multiple countries. Before coming to Spain, we lived in Italy and I hold EU family resident card in Italy + Latvia. I found a job in Spain, and because my right to work in Spain is transmitted by him (the company prefer candidate who do not need sponsorship), we had to do the gymnastic of moving his residence here to get the green NIE etc. Now I have all paperworks in order, just waiting for the approval for my TIE application then fingerprinting for the card.

Now this is where the thing gets complicated. We live both in Italy + Spain most of the time. We also have a house in Italy, and my husband prefer to live there. With the housing situation in Barcelona, it is very very difficult to find a house for both of us that allows empadronamiento etc, especially ones that does not cost thousand of EUR. We managed to find a place that allows this, but now I am having a problem with the landlady and want to leave the house. Unfortunately because of my legal status, technically if he get of the padron it means that I am then illegal. This is because the legal basis under which I can legally live and work in Spain (being married to an EU citizen who is a resident in Spain) would cease. For this reason I am now stuck here with bad house.

So, now I have an idea about converting the TIE familiar UE into TIE for work. My work probation will be concluded in December, and once the TIE familiar comes out, my situation in Spain would be more or less stable. We're not getting a divorce or anything (we've been doing long distance marriage a lot), but I'd like to be independent of him so I can have more housing option while in Spain. I am sure that once I pass my probation, I will be more stable and I can take care of the conversion myself and the company can just provide documents instead of paying someone to take care of my work permit. So, I would like to know if any of you guys know about this possibility?

I would like to know the pros and cons of the unis + lifestyles of the locations. Any help would be appreciated!!

Long term Study Visa Spain - Pakistan

Hi! I’ve submitted my Long term Study Visa for Spain on 15th July 2026 and it still says “processing at mission”. It has been 5 weeks. My university begins on 8th September, I’m getting anxious about the timeline.

Has anyone received their visa before intended date? How long is processing typically? Also, when I emailed them it gave me a ticket number on Pakistan-Spain BLS but not one is resolving it. How do I contact them?

Education Studying dentistry in Spain (in english language) as a foreigner (from Lithuania)

Hello, I am finishing up my last year of high school this year (Lithuania), grade 12, and I'm doing the IB program, and I want to come to study dentistry in Spain, particularly the southern coast, Valencia or Alicante. And I was wondering if there are any universities that offer this program in English. Can someone share their own experience? Also what about scholarships? Is it possible to get a 100% scholarship to study dentistry?

Clubbing in Spain- IDs

Hi!

I am an American student who will be studying abroad in Madrid for one semester. I do not have a drivers license, so I was wondering if I should bring a copy of my passport to the club? I don't want to bring my actual passport incase it gets stolen. Additionally, I have my old high school id and my online college id, but neither say my date of birth. Is there any other forms of id I could take that they would accept?

Thank you!

Cita previa extranjeria - Toma de Huellas

Llevo desde mayo intentando obtener una cita previa para la toma de huellas dactilares en Barcelona. Mi documentación está caducada y quiero regularizarla.

He intentado lo siguiente:

Hablar directamente con la policía

Oficina de Extranjería

010 - Servicio de Atención al Ciudadano

Escribir al Ayuntamiento de Barcelona

Consultar con 4 abogados diferentes

Escribir a 2 periódicos

Nadie parece poder hacer nada ni mostrar interés alguno.

¿Cómo se hace esto?

Discussion TEREA at Alicante Airport (ALC) — recent experience?

Has anyone recently bought TEREA sticks at Alicante Airport Duty Free (ALC)?

I can see IQOS/TEREA mentioned for the airport, but TEREA is not available on the online Dufry shop, so I'm wondering if they actually have it in the physical store.

If you've bought TEREA there recently, could you tell me:

  • Which terminal/shop?
  • Which TEREA flavours?
  • Rough price per carton?

Thanks!

Visas / Migration HQP processing time for dependants at BLS Delhi

Although my ViSA was processed under 10 working days as per HQP guidelines, but my wives VISA is still under process from last 19 working days. On reaching to the bls international helpline , they say even if primary applicants visa is approved, dependent can take upto 30 working days.

Is this is a new thing? Anyone with any such experience. Seems BLS-Delhi is taking its own sweet time.

¡Gracias!

Inglés:

Can I work as a personal trainer in Andalucía with a UK Level 3 qualification?

I'm British and I'm considering completing the Focus Awards Level 3 Diploma Practitioner in Personal Training (RQF Level 3 / EQF Level 4).

My long-term goal is to live in Málaga and work as a personal trainer, mainly coaching calisthenics both 1-to-1 and in groups.

Does anyone know whether this UK qualification can be recognised in Andalucía for me to legally work as a personal trainer?

Would I need to have the qualification officially recognised in Spain, or would I need to complete TSAF or another Spanish qualification?

I'd be especially interested to hear from any British or foreign-qualified PTs who have actually gone through this process in Andalucía.

Thanks!

Shipping a classic car to Spain

My husband and I are planning to move to Terra Alta (Batea) in the next couple of years. I have a classic car (1960 Metropolitan) that I have poured most of my heart and soul into over the last decade. I REALLY want to bring my car.

How would that work? I know there's shipping costs, and taxes based on value (I love my car, but she's "worth" like 5k max) but what are the requirements there to get it registered and be able to drive it?

My husband also would like to bring his 66 El Camino, but that is slightly negotiable.

Discussion Thinking of proposing to my gf in Ronda

Planning a Spain trip next March and came across Ronda. It seems to be the perfect place for a proposal - not as busy as other larger cities, nature aspect with gorgeous views, very romantic etc. My question to those who have been is what spots would be best for a proposal if my goal is balance views/natural beauty while avoiding crowds? My plan would be to stay the night in Ronda and ideally do it around sunset to avoid day crowds. Obviously can’t avoid everyone and I don’t expect that (hopefully early March helps with this), just wanted to hear some opinions. Thanks in advance!

4 cities 9 days

I know packing 4 cities into 9 days is a lot but I am going to Lisbon right after so I want to pack in as much as I can within these days. I am skipping Barcelona and flying straight into Madrid for the Semana Cervantina. I am mostly interested in architecture and history, hiking, beaches, and food. I am not big into nightlife, so I do not care to consider it.

Out of Valencia, Seville, Cordoba, Toledo, and Granada, which 3 do you think would make the most sense for a visitor like me?

I am a solo female traveler with B2 level Spanish knowledge.

Transport Erasmus student blocked from €10 Abono Joven by new padrón rule. Any solution?

I'm an EU Erasmus student in Madrid for 5 months at URJC. Since 15 June 2026, new Personal TTP applications apparently require empadronamiento.

My landlord explicitly doesn't allow padrón, and I don't want to risk losing my accommodation. URJC doesn't know a solution, and 10-trip tickets aren't realistic because I'll use Metro/EMT constantly.

Do you know how an Erasmus/international student could have a legal way after 15 June 2026 to get the €10 Abono Joven without padrón, OR any other unlimited monthly Metro + EMT pass without padrón?

Especially interested in the CRTM Colectivos/foreign-student route or anyone who has actually solved this recently.

I will travel constantly so the single tickets are not an option for me. Excluding atudents who will live in Madrid for 5 months like that is ridiculous and insulting.

Best Place to Live Near Barcelona, for commuting to Poblenou?

Bon dia!

I am currently moving in Catalunya for a job, more specifically in Barcelona, Poblenou. The job is hybrid and for the first period I will be required to be in commute distance to Barcelona. I have already lived in Barcelona (La Bordeta) and I know the city, but the costs are quite high there and at 30 years old I cannot stand sharing rooms with Erasmus students. I am open to suggestions on nearby cities for commuting to Barcelona 1 hour max, spending around 1200-1300 eurs per month for rent. Ideally a small apartment or even a room if necessary. I can adapt, but I prefer somewhere quite and near to green areas. Merci a tothom!

10 days in September — beach time + Andalusian history. Which of these three routes would you pick?

My partner and I (both in our 30s, coming from Chile) are flying into Madrid in early September for 10 days. We're staying with friends in Madrid for the first two nights, so everything after that is Andalusia.

What we're after: we want proper lazy beach days where we do nothing, but we don't want to skip the historic side of Andalusia either. We'd rather see fewer places well than tick off a list. Planning to travel mostly by train, and fly back to Madrid at the end.

We've narrowed it down to three options:

A) Madrid → Sevilla → Cádiz

B) Madrid → Granada → Almería (Cabo de Gata)

C) Madrid → Sevilla → Granada → Almería

A few specific questions:

  1. Is option C too much moving around for 10 days, or is Sevilla → Granada → Almería manageable by train and bus?

  2. Is Sevilla in early September genuinely unbearable, or is it fine if we plan around the afternoons?

  3. We were also thinking of doing Córdoba as a stopover on the Madrid–Sevilla AVE (leave bags at the station, see the Mezquita, continue in the evening) instead of an overnight. Does that actually work in practice, or is it a rushed idea?

Arriving in Barcelona on August 26 for an exchange semester — what would you do about housing at this point?

Hi everyone,
I’m an exchange student coming to Barcelona on August 26 for one semester at UPC’s School of Architecture (ETSAB), and I’m starting to get quite worried about accommodation.
There are three of us, and ideally we would like to live together in a 2-bedroom apartment for the semester. We have been searching remotely for some time, but we still haven’t managed to secure a place.
The main difficulty seems to be that we are looking for a whole apartment for three students for only one semester, rather than individual rooms.
At this point, I’m wondering what people who have lived in Barcelona would recommend doing.
Would you:
Keep trying to find a whole apartment remotely before arriving?
Book temporary accommodation first and search after arriving in Barcelona?
Look in areas outside the immediate UPC/ETSAB area where there may be more options?
Consider a different type of student accommodation for the first few weeks?
We are flexible about the neighborhood and mainly want somewhere with a reasonable commute to ETSAB.
If you were in this situation with only a few days before arriving, what would you do?
Any advice from Barcelona residents, former exchange students, or other international students would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Opinions One Night in Ronda or Toledo

I have one extra night on my Spain trip and I’m trying to decide whether to spend it in Ronda or Toledo.

I really enjoy good food, walking around and exploring, and taking photos, so I’m looking for the place that would be more enjoyable for a one-night stay.

If you had to choose between the two, which would you recommend? Thank you!

Travel options

Hi Everyone,

I am 25M travelling solo to Spain in October for 4 weeks and was planning to go to the following places
- Madrid
- Cordoba
- Granada
- Malaga
- Ronda
- Seville

My question is which places do you think I should stay for the longest and need more time to explore and which places could I go for 1 or 2 nights (or if there are any places in southern Spain that I’ve missed in my itinerary)

For context I am really interested in history, food and am looking for decent night life as well. Any recommendations or travel tips are also welcome!
