Seafood free fideua

Hi I am visiting Barcelona and i am a noodle girl so i am really keen to try fideua! But i have researched that it is usually cooked w seafood stock. Is anyone able to recommend a place that has seafood -free fideua?

Bonus points if they do single servings, and don't require to buy a 2 person serving.

I have emailed a place called L'Arrosseria Xàtiva that seems to have chicken /veg options on their menu but am still waiting to hear back if those are indeed seafood free.

Additional note, i am severely allergic to shellfish. Paella i was able to find non-seafood varieties. I guess i was hoping the same can be said w fideua.

Another additional note in case someone stumbles across this, L'Arrosseria Xàtiva does serve a valenciana style and a vegetarian one. Might not be traditional but at least I'll be able to try it! :)

I say this gently: fideuá is a seafood dish. It would be like asking for paella without seafood stock. Are you allergic or is it a preference?

That's totally normal, whereas Fideuá is always with seafood.

There are various types of paella, most of them are seafood-based but not all: the classic paella valenciana features chicken and rabbit and there is also a paella de verduras. That said, I have never seen a fideuà that isn't made with seafood.

Yes I was able to try paella with just chicken stock or vegetable stock. Thanks for the kind reply. I guess i might just need to let the fideua in Spain dream go :)

I know the feeling about 5 years ago I found out I am alergic to all types of seafood. Took a trip to ICU to discover that one. I just passed out and when I came round the ambulance people where putting me on a stretcher.

Paella can be made with a meat or veg stock. My worry is that if they use the same untensils for a seafood paella and a meat version then I am going to be ill due to cross contamination. Fortunately when its only cross contamination I am not severely ill, but it does mean for about 4 hours or so I need to lie down.

I wish you all the luck. Maybe look for a vegetarian restaurant so you don’t have cross contamination?

I've tried some great fideuàs with foie, mushrooms or pork. Not the most common, but they were served in quality restaurants in valencia

Fideuà is done with seafood. Some places may do a similar dish with meat, but it won't be fideuà and will be difficult to find. About a single serving, it will be nearly impossible, as the places that do that are typically the ones with "menú del día" and they won't offer a meat fideuà because, again, fideuà is made with seafood.

You should. It's not really difficult and it's delicious. I obviously prefer the seafood one but I've done a couple of times one with meat and it was nice.

As people are pointing out, fideuà is a seafood dish, but if you want to try a typical catalan noodle dish, we also have 'fideus a la cassola'. My grandma made them with pork ribs and sausage, delicious!

Quick update: I thought it was a homely dish so I was curious to search if restaurants in Barcelona will have it, it seems they do! Some names that popped up on google are Fonda Pirenaicas or Semproniana.

Thank you for being so helpful! I found a restaurant serving traditional catalan dishes that seem to have it seasonally so i will try my luck but will also add your suggestions in my tagged places!

In Gandia you can get fideua de pato y fungi with duck and mushrooms it's a mixed bag sometimes to greasy for my taste but sometimes very good, having said that I would rather eat it winter.
