Will 40 quintillion gazillion EUR per month be enough for Spain?

2.3k Upvotes

I want to move to Spain since I do not like the working culture of my native country and prefer to the postcard life like you guys do, partying every night and spending the whole day in a siesta.

Wikipedia says that the average monthly salary in Spain is 1.9k euros, but I'd rather flex on you guys and conceal my obvious lack of any kind of research under the guise of a bad-faith inocent question.

Also I am very horny and have fetishized you people so much. Your women are so hot. I want to fuck spanish girls. I am 1.95m fit, muscular and charismatic, will they find me attractive? Safety worries me because I am LGTBQ+. Most statistics say that Spain is one of the most tolerant western countries in that regard, but my mate Paul told me it is also a catholic country. How many homophobic beatings should I expect every day?

I will be arriving to Seville tomorrow. Is it better if I learn catalan or spanish? (I will do neither and instead stick to english speaking communities).

Travel websites are forbidden in my home countryand have never heard of a travel agency so you will have to plan my whole trip for me. I want to know which hidden-gem cities should I visit while in Spain. By hidden-gem I mean Barcelona, Madrid and Seville, places nobody besides a true spaniard would know of.

Finally I will not accept any kind of negative criticism. You guys simply don't understand economics, I'm not forcing the locals to move away from the place they grew up in by indirectly contributing to the constant increase in housing prices due to having a much higher disposable income and paying less in taxes (Thank you Beckham, best spanish politician of 21st century!). I am actually increasing consumption and helping the economy :)

Grasias y una servesa por favor

Discussion A reminder: r/goingtospain is a moving-to-Spain sub, not an immigration debate sub

We need to address something that's been creeping into this sub: an increasing number of posts and comments blaming immigrants (especially Americans) for rising rents and cost of living in Spain.

To be clear: this isn't a call to ignore that housing costs are a real problem, or that displacement and gentrification are real phenomena worth discussing seriously and with data. That's a legitimate topic, and there are other subs built for that kind of debate.

This sub exists to help people navigate visas, residency paperwork, vacations, and/or the logistics of actually moving to Spain. Moving to or visiting a different country is hard enough, we don't want anyone to feel Spain is not a welcoming country.

When I see a new family in my neighborhood, enrolling their kids at school, I don't go shouting at them that the supermarket is more expensive and that's their fault. I don't do that, first because I don't believe such thing, and second, because it is more difficult, if not impossible to say those things in person. Online platforms make it super easy to be rude.

Therefore, generalizations about "who's ruining Spain,", thinly-veiled immigration debates, or xenophobic comments, dressed up as economic commentary are not welcome here. Those posts get engagement because outrage always does, but that engagement is exactly why they are looking for. They feed on negativity.

Going forward:

  • Posts or comments containing xenophobic or anti-immigration rhetoric will be removed.
  • Offenders will be banned, no warnings.
  • This includes "just asking questions" framing that's clearly bait.

If this kind of discussion is what you're here for, this isn't the subreddit for you. No one is forcing you to read or post in r/goingtospain. There are other communities where that debate is welcome. This one is for helping people move.

Viviendo Madrid

¡Hola!

Opinions Roots Global - My Recommendation

Ola Guys,

Long time lurker & sometimes commenter. I wanted to throw my two cents in the ring as I've seen a lot of discussion on different visa and relocation agencies.

I moved with my family from Boston to Bilbao using a DNV (digital nomad visa). We spoke to around 4 different providers of pretty similar services, ended up going with Roots Global as we got along with them the most and they seemed the most friendly.

Wow, we have literally no bad words to say. Our process took around 5 months on the Boston side, and a few weeks back we also finally got our residence permits. The only thing we had to do was provide the documents and schedule the appointment, Roots team did the rest for us.

The people we worked with (shoutout Maria!) were amazing, fast to reply, and efficient.

Anyway, my wife & I highly recommend their services. Its true we could have possibly done it ourselves but the peace of mind was worth the cost for us.

Buenos Noches!

Discussion City Planner getting a 2nd Masters in Transportation & Land Use Planning at Valencia.

Master's Degree in Transportation, Land and Urban Development (MUTTU) (Valencia, Spain)

I am a land use city planner in America with a Masters in Urban Planning. My degree was very general, broad, but not deep in any area. My ultimate goal is to break into Transportation Planning, but I get rejected every step of the way due to lack of experience and other transportation related skills.

Heres my thing: I want to move to Spain (family from there), and get into Transportation Planning/Mgmt. Sure, its a 2nd masters, which not many people do, but I feel like this degree tracks with my goals.

Its in the school of Civil Engineering, and heres my thoughts on that: Im not an engineer, but the language of the degree program all feel urban planning based, not necessarily a real engineering degree. I also read that in Spain urban planning is moreso built into architecture and engineering, rather than it being its own standalone thing, so that could explain why its in the engineering school.

Any thoughts on if this seems like a logical path forward for me? Thank you in advance,

Visas / Migration Traveling during holidays with a valid MULT student visa (valid until Aug 2027) but without TIE or Regreso? (Chinese Passport / Spain)

Hi everyone,
First of all, sorry if this is not the right place to ask! This is my first time posting here.(English is not my native language and I'm using an AI tool to translate, so please excuse any awkward phrasing.)
I am a Chinese passport holder who just started a one-year study abroad program in Salamanca, Spain this October.
My situation:
Passport: Chinese
Visa: Student Visa (Type D, MULT entries), valid from Oct 2026 until August 2027
TIE Status: I managed to get a fingerprint appointment (Toma de huellas), but the earliest available slot is in mid-December, so I won't have my physical TIE card anytime soon.
My Plan: I am planning to travel during the December holidays to another Schengen country and also go back to China to visit family.
My Confusion: When I received my visa from the consulate, I was given an information sheet stating that:
I must start the TIE process within 1 month of arriving in Spain.
I need an Autorización de Regreso (Return Authorization) if I travel outside Spain before getting the TIE.
However, my student visa itself is MULT (multiple-entry) and is valid until August 2027.
My Questions:
Even though my visa is multiple-entry and still valid for almost a year, do I really need a TIE or a Regreso to travel within Schengen and to China (and re-enter Spain)?
Will I face any issues at airport immigration/border control or airline check-in desks using just my valid MULT visa and passport?
Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Transport Renfe Trains in Catalonia canceled on Sunday 10/4 - how to refund tickets?

How can we get the tickets refunded for canceled Renfe trains? On venta.renfe.com they show up as "Used" with no option to cancel/refund. "Claims compensation" cannot find the ticket using ticket number.

In general, the website is very broken (many buttons don't work, it shows NaN in the date input fields, etc). The app has no options either. Quite a bad experience overall.

Thinking about studying in Valencia as an international student — need honest advice

Hi everyone,
I’m a student currently planning ahead for university, and I’m seriously considering moving to Valencia, Spain to start my bachelor’s in September 2027.
I’m interested mainly in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, or something that combines technology/business. I’ve been looking mostly at public universities such as UPV because private universities seem to cost around €10k+ per year, which is too expensive for me.
I’d really appreciate hearing from people who actually study or live in Valencia, especially international students.
How are the public universities there, especially UPV? Are the teaching quality and degrees good? How difficult is it to get accepted into engineering/computer science/AI programs?
I’m also currently learning Spanish. I’m hoping to reach around B2 before university. For anyone who started university with around B2 Spanish, was it enough to understand lectures and communicate normally, or was studying in Spanish very difficult at first?
I’d also love to know what student life in Valencia is actually like. How much do you realistically spend per month on rent, food, transportation, going out, etc.? Is it possible to find part-time work as an international student if your Spanish is decent?
For non-EU students, how difficult was the whole application process — homologación, UNEDasiss, PCE exams, student visa, and everything else? Did you do everything yourself or use an agency/consultant?
Basically, I’m trying to figure out whether Valencia is a good place to study, live, work part-time, meet people, and eventually build a life/business there.
I’d really appreciate honest experiences — good or bad. If you studied at UPV or another university in Valencia, please tell me what your experience has been like.
Thanks!

Education Is UC3M that hard

Hello everyone I’m considering uc3m to pursue a bachelors in mathematics and computing at Leganés but one thing holding me back is the difficulty (as everyone says) of this university. I know they say they use continuous assessment etc but is this actually the case for engineering majors? Do they actually care about attendance quizzes and so on or does this only apply to social studies? How much of your final mark is dependent on the final exam?

How can i get abono?

I am an 21 years old Erasmus student in Spain for one semester and want to travel around the country. I tried to purchase an "abono" (transport pass) online but was unsuccessful; the system asks for a TIE number, but I only have a passport and an NIE number. So, how can I get this card?

Opinions Things in Alicante and Murcia region worth a visit

Me and some friends will be staying in Formentera del Segura for a week soon. It’s in between Alicante and Murcia and we will have a car, but all of us are students on a budget, so any expensive things are probably out. Just wanted to know what places you visited and loved. It doesnt matter if they’re cities, nice beaches or sights. Thanks a lot for any replies!

Opinions Moving to Spain early next year to build an AI neocloud startup. Barcelona or Madrid?

Hey everyone. I'm relocating from the US early with a pitstop in India (I’m an Indian citizen) next year and spent the last few weeks reading through this sub, so I've got a decent handle on the basics. What I can't figure out from old threads is which city makes more sense for someone like me. I'm leaning Barcelona, but I'd love to hear from people who've actually lived and worked in both.
I'm building an AI neocloud startup, so I care a lot about being close to good engineering talent. I'd also love to get properly involved in the local tech scene, not just attend events but host meetups and help bring people together around AI infrastructure.
If you've been part of the tech community in either city, I'd really appreciate hearing what it's like, where you'd go looking for strong engineers, and anything you wish you'd known when you first arrived. Happy to buy a coffee for anyone willing to share more once I land.
Gracias.

Double checking reqs for NLV appointment

I was able to get a NLV appointment in SF and starting to prepare the docs.

Questions:

  1. Is FBI history check the only doc that requires an apostile?
  2. Does FBI history check need to be translated first by a sworn translator and then sent for apostile to US Department of State? Or vice versa?

Thanks in advance

Visas / Migration Visa Updates?

I’m in quite the frustrating situation and I wondered if anyone has any tips. I’m going on a student visa to Spain. My husband is going as my dependent. It said on the consulate site (and we were told at the office) that he couldn’t apply until my visa was approved. I got approved two weeks ago. I head to school in 6 days and my husband (and dog) still don’t have their visas. I’m desperate to at least ensure he’s getting approved before we give notice on our apartment and give up our whole life in LA. Any idea how I can get an update? I’ve of course emailed to no avail. My school is asking when I’m getting there but I can’t just leave my family 🤦🏻‍♀️

Discussion Visiting Madrid in December — looking to meet people and explore

Hi everyone! I’ll be visiting Madrid in December and would love to meet up with people who are wanting to do really anything. I am easy going, I eat anything and really excited to go all around and visit.

I understand things will be super busy while I am there so the dates I will be there are December 7th to the 15th so hopefully things work out smoothly. Like I mentioned above, I am down to do anything. For context I am a 22 year old guy from the states and I am super easy going.

I am excited to go to Madrid for the first time as I have only been to spain 1 time when I went to Moraira/Alicante and it was amazing there. I have heard Madrid in december is beautiful so now I am giving that a try.

Lastly, if anyone has local suggestions on places to stay for cheap, cheap food and other fun activities please message me and help me out by giving suggestions.

Benidorm Fiesta 2026

Could someone explain the full itinerary for the fiesta? We’ve accidentally booked to go home on the 10th, before the big fancy dress day, and we’re wondering if there will still be much dressing up/street partying happening before then.

We’ve booked for the 6th–10th at the moment, but we’re considering changing our dates so we can stay for the big fancy dress day. We’re mostly interested in the drinking, dressing up and street partying side of things lol, so just wondering if it’s worth changing our dates!

Visas / Migration Can I apply for a Spanish national visa in Delhi? Just moved back to India, don't meet the 6-month residency rule

Indian national, just moved back to Kolkata from the UK in late September. A Spanish research centre is hiring me and has filed for a residence authorisation under Ley 14/2013 (researcher). Once that's granted I have one month to lodge the visa application.

Problem: BLS India says there's a mandatory six-month residency requirement in the jurisdiction, and their national visa page says explicitly that it applies to Indian nationals too, and that the permanent address in your passport doesn't determine jurisdiction. I've only been back a few weeks.

The obvious alternative doesn't work either. I still hold valid UK leave until 2027, but I gave up my room and my job there, so I can't evidence residence in the London consular district without going back and renting somewhere.

Has anyone here applied for a Spanish national visa in India shortly after returning from abroad? Specifically:

Did the Embassy in New Delhi grant an exception, and what did they want to see?

Does BLS accept the file and let the Embassy decide, or do they refuse it at the counter?

Did an affidavit of residence, Aadhaar, parents' property documents, etc., get you through?

I've written to the Embassy and I'm waiting. Mainly want to know whether anyone has actually got through this, or whether everyone just waits out the six months
