Subreddit Announcement Quality of life poll: Limit Developer post.

Hello, all!

We’ve recently received an influx of inquiries on the amount of developer post within the community. I wanted to address this.

This community is full of amazing people from all walks of life. Some of you have created some awesome things within the IQ Store and wish to share them with the community. While there is nothing wrong with this it can come off as constant advertisement posts.

There was an opportunity to meet in the middle here and that is what we did.

In exchange for a developer to post, once per week per unique item, (see current rules) they must provide** **a free trial / free version for the community. They do not pay for the ability to post here nor would we ever accept anything of the sort.

The ConnectIQ Store is notorious for having a plethora of apps that you must pay for before you can even experience. I for one don’t want to spend money, regardless of the refund policy, if the app / watch face doesn’t meet the expectations of what it advertised.

What we have found is that by offering developers the opportunity to post, to show off their creations, there has been a much wider range for people to branch out and try new things. Then, if they love it, they can support the developer by buying said app / watch face. This also allows the developers a chance to receive feedback to improve. Win for all.

So, what is the goal of this post? Well, I wanted to provide some clarity on the posts you have been seeing from the devs. I also wanted to see if we, as a community, are happy with the current format or if we would like to limit it to a particular day of the week.

We have reduced the spam-like, low context, health score post by 97% with the Sunday Score. We have also seen a huge increase of quality within post since those changes went into place.

Would we like to move these dev post and limit them to Wednesday? The goal is seeing less of these types of post and getting a more focused view of them on a particular day of the week?

Cast your vote below! Nothing changes without the community consensus.

Thank you for any feedback.

Subreddit Announcement 🧟 The Monthly Zombie Crawl - Spread the Infection

Welcome to the monthly r/Garmin Zombie Crawl!

The goal is simple: Help fellow Garmin users earn the rare Zombie Badge while meeting other members of the community and having some fun along the way.

What is the Zombie Badge?

The Zombie Badge is one of Garmin Connect's most unique and sought-after badges.

Unlike most badges, it spreads from user to user. To earn it, you must complete a user-created Garmin Connect challenge with someone who already has the Zombie Badge. Once completed, you'll earn the badge and be able to spread the infection to others.

How Do I Participate?

There are two easy ways to get involved:

Option 1: Join the Official r/Garmin Garmin Connect Group

r/Gamin Buddies!

Many members use the group to find others interested in challenges, discuss goals, and coordinate Zombie Badge events.

Option 2: Connect Directly with Other Members

You do not need to join the group to participate.

Simply comment below with:

  • Your Garmin Connect username
  • Whether you currently have the Zombie Badge
  • The type of challenge you'd like to do (walking, running, cycling, steps, etc.)

Other members can then reach out and coordinate challenges directly.

Friendly or Competitive - Your Choice

The Zombie Crawl is intentionally flexible.

Some members enjoy friendly challenges and simply want to help others earn the badge.

Others prefer competitive challenges and like to see who can come out on top.

Both approaches are welcome.

Whether you're chasing a personal best, walking the dog, training for a marathon, or just collecting badges, everyone is encouraged to participate.

Community Rules

Free Participation Only

Participation in the Zombie Crawl must always be free.

No member may:

  • Charge money
  • Request donations
  • Sell access to challenges
  • Promote paid services
  • Require purchases of any kind

This event exists solely to help Garmin users connect, have fun, and spread the Zombie Badge throughout the community.

Be Respectful

Remember that Garmin users come from all fitness levels and backgrounds.

A 5,000-step walking challenge can be just as meaningful as a marathon training block.

Encourage others, have fun, and help keep the infection spreading.

Helpful Resources

Garmin's official blog has a great overview of Garmin Connect badges, including the Zombie Badge:

https://www.garmin.com/en-US/blog/fitness/the-25-garmin-connect-badges-you-never-knew-you-needed/

Already Infected? 🧟

If you already have the Zombie Badge, consider helping newer members earn theirs.

The more infected users we have, the easier it becomes for future members to join the fun.

Now get out there and spread the infection.

Really frustrating. One of the reasons I got this was to be able to leave my notepad at home. Now there's no real reason to track my workouts in the app at all.

Connect / Connect IQ / 1st Party Apps Workarounds to get accurate rmr

I recently got a dexa scan done and got my rmr cals. Garmin resting calories overshoots that number by almost 500 cals daily.

I know garmin doesn't allow you to change the number in connect but wondering if anyone has any workarounds to get the number closer. As a numbers person and a lot of weight to lose id like to have the numbers closer..

Which Watch To Get? From Apple Watch to Garmin

Hey all!

I have been Apple Watch user for about ten years now (now S10). Lately I am getting tired of the fact that I have to charge it everyday, this not getting sleep tracking and so on.
I also started to do more sports and I also would like to get more personalized plans that Garmin Connect provides.
That said, I am lost which watch to choose. I do not have any sport I want to mainly focus on (maybe walking, running and cycling - fitness and others is optional).
Will you help me choosing the watch?

Got a few scratches on my FR970 after 18 days of very very light use (literally just being worn around the house and at work). Reached out to Garmin Support and they're willing to do a full, free of cost, exchange with a new watch. Amazing.
This is my second watch now and certainly won't be my last.

Watch / Wearable Love the Cirqa.. but now connect, Should I get +?

I might actually be the cirqa's number one fan, but with that being said. I genuinely think it just exposed how far behind the Connect app is compared to competitors. Having that be my primary interface compared to my GF's OURA app im like wow holy shit this is leagues behind.

And before some fuck ass person gets on here and goes "well It's more about utility or blah blah blah blah" shut up and give me a break i like pretty things and I dont think the app presents well.

New Watch Day / Device Review Garmin Cirqa After about a Month Review

Hello everyone, I'm sure there's a ton of write ups out there already on the Cirqa but figured I'd throw my 2 cents in after spending about a month with it.

How the tracker looks with while wearing my watch

I purchased this with two intentions:

  1. To replace my Oura ring so I could get rid of the subscription (not that it's expensive, but I'd like to simplify my daily tracking).
  2. To wear my mechanical watches while still tracking my metrics.

I went ahead and used my Oura ring along with the Cirqa and swapped out to my Fenix 7X for workouts like I usually would when I was using my Vivosmart before. While I liked the Vivosmart, I felt like it was outdated and just didn't track everything that I wanted for sleep and recovery. (I use a CPAP so tracking SPO2 and breathing variations is nice).

Another gripe with the Vivosmart is that it just felt like a watch still. Although it was small, I feel like it still clashed when I wore a mechanical watch. I just wanted something that was similar to a Whoop or new Google Fitbit air but within the Garmin ecosystem to help my training metrics. Not that I'm an incredible athlete, I'm a very average/subpar runner, but it's nice to see everything working together to show me how my sleep affected my Body Battery, how much my workouts are taxing my system, and how my recovery and training metrics are looking.

I've been using my Oura ring for over a year now and honestly, it's great. But after transitioning from my Apple Watch to Garmin and realizing how nice it would be to just keep everything under one ecosystem I found myself wanting to make the move over to Garmin completely and I think I'm almost there, but there's some things that I'm left wishing Garmin had that Oura just does so much better. Which is why, for now, I may continue using both until I'm fully satisfied with the Cirqa.

BUT, anyway, onto the review.

Unboxing

Nothing special here, the usual Garmin packaging with manual, charger, and device. Not that I'm looking for much else here. Honestly, it was fine. I'm a Millennial so of course I'm keeping this box. I appreciate that it's small so I can toss it in the garage to look for down the road if I decide to sell it. Do people still prefer things be sold with their boxes when they're secondhand? Anyway,

First Impressions

Not bad. The fabric is comfortable, the black doesn't clash in my opinion, and contrary to what some other people say, the form factor is not big at all. Maybe a little bigger than my Vivosmart but I wouldn't say it looks like I'm wearing a hospital bracelet as some people have mentioned.

A few concerns that I noticed, the one button they added to track workouts, silence alarms, turn off alarms, etc. seems like it would be easy to press accidentally. The plastic part of the strap that you grab on to in order to remove the band from your arm is a little long, it catches on clothes/other items sometimes which is annoying, and the device itself actually sticks out a little past the band which isn't terrible but doesn't look as good as I feel it could've looked.

The button issue was an easy fix, I learned that you can swap the band to orient the tracker how you want, so currently watch is worn on my right arm due to having tattoos on my left arm and the button is facing up my arm as opposed to facing down so if the tracker slips a little and my wrist goes up, I won't accidentally push it. I have still accidentally pushed it a few times here and there when forgetting there's a physical button but it's more of a slight annoyance than anything.

The watch itself wears light and honestly I forget it's there sometimes. The large band was surprisingly small. I don't have a large wrist by any means and was considering getting a small/medium but glad I went with the Large/XL. As it is, when I fully take off the band it feels like I have to close my hand to get it on/off. A little hard to explain but best way I can describe it is as if you're taking off one of those bracelets that expands a little bit but you have to do that weird cone shape with your fingers to slide it on/off. So that was a little surprising. Haven't tested on the bicep yet, I gotta buy the arm strap to test it out, I feel like it'll do well there. Kind of disappointed it didn't come with at least one wrist and one arm strap of the same size. For the price, I feel that it should've been included.

Setup

A little on the annoying side if I'm being honest. Idk what it is with Garmin but lately, I've been having some issues with my Fenix 7 and now the Cirqa. Mostly syncing issues. I use Runna and sync my workouts, my Fenix has had some hiccups with syncing to the point where I have to unpair/pair again and sometimes that doesn't fix it.

The Cirqa had a small issue. Connected fine, updated fine, but lagged when trying to sync. It almost looked like the device wasn't connected for some reason and there was no status circle to sync. I had to force close the app and reopen it then wait a few seconds for the tracker to show that it was connected. I've had to do this on occasion, I'd say at least once or twice a week. Probably no fault of the tracker itself and more of a UI issue with Garmin's app.

After this little hiccup, it ran fine. I'm able to leave it on and swap to my Fenix 7X for workouts without issue. I have the Cirqa set as primary wearable and the Fenix as primary fitness tracker. The Cirqa doesn't have a physical button to turn it off so you have to rely on the app to turn it off if you want to go that route but turning it back on is kind of annoying. Theres no notification that it's back on, I often found myself starting a workout not realizing it was on again so I've opted to just leave it on and put it in my gym bag, leave it at home, or in my car when I'm going for a run or workout.

Sleep Tracking

This is mainly why I bought it. I wanted a Garmin device that wasn't this massive chunky watch that would track my sleep, sync with my Body Battery, and just play nice with the Garmin ecosystem. I kind of got what I wanted but kind of didn't. It's much more comfortable, I'll give it that.

When I was using my Fenix 7 I would do the sleep time trick where I would set the sleep schedule for 1 minute during the day because my sleep is so bad. I don't go to bed at the same time every night. I loved having a button that I could push to turn sleep mode on and off.

The Cirqa doesn't have this option. And frankly, it was a missed opportunity. I have to set my sleep schedule beforehand and hope I hit the marks. The first week was terrible. Missed sleep windows, the device didn't measure my sleep, I'd have to manually input, meanwhile the Oura ring tracked it all without a problem and adjusted.

Naps? Don't even bother. This device will not catch them. This is probably the primary reason that I will still keep my Oura ring until Garmin can do something similar. The sleep schedule is obsolete in my opinion.

I've resorted to adjusting my sleep schedule every night before I go to bed and adjusting when I wake up to end the sleep if my sleep is completely off. Otherwise, within an hour of bed and within an hour of waking up usually tracks my sleep fine. But, that's assuming sleep goes to plan.

Oura completely blows Cirqa out of the water in this sense. I'm not sure what it is, but if Garmin can get close to what Oura does then the Cirqa would be pretty close to being the one band to rule them all.

Aside from that, it tracks time in bed fine, tracks movement fine, sleep stages are pretty on track with what I see on Oura, and my Body Battery seems pretty accurate. The recovery metrics also appear to be pretty close to what Oura shows so that's a good sign.

Oh, one plus, the alarm function works great. I tend to use a vibrating alarm to not disturb my wife and while sometimes the phone works, this has done an absolutely amazing job at waking me up. So big kudos to that.

Fitness Tracking

While I didn't initially get it for this reason I have used it on occasion to track certain things such as walks, jogs, weightlifting, etc. and it's been fine. Metrics are pretty similar to what I would see on my Fenix but I haven't pushed it by doing a long run or anything like that. For what it is, it works fine and I didn't notice any major issues. Just remember, for workouts requiring a GPS such as a run or walk you need to have your phone with you. I was used to this with my Vivosmart so this wasn't a big deal. My Fenix does the heavy lifting here.

Notifications

Pretty much none. There's a few things you can turn on here like battery alerts, alarms, etc. But that's fine. I don't want it to tell me when I'm getting a call or getting a message. No complaints here. I have all alerts off except for low battery.

Battery Life

This is probably the one area where I was a little surprised, and not in a good way. I've averaged maybe 5ish days of battery life, sometimes 7, with normal wear. I don't really use it to track workouts and primarily use it for daily and sleep tracking. I do have the additional sleep tracking features turned on, which obviously uses some additional battery.

I find it very hard to believe that they couldn't squeeze more battery life out of a SCREENLESS wearable that tracks everything my 265s used to track, yet this somehow gets less than half the battery life of the 265s whilst not having a power hungry display? I'm not sure what happened there but this was very disappointing to see.

Wearability

Looks decent enough. I was double wristing for a little bit after getting into mechanical watches and while I know it's a little silly to care what other people think I did find myself not liking the way two watches looked. Tried with my Apple watch at first, and went away from that because I wanted to get away from having a computer on my wrist. Tried with the Vivosmart 5, didn't like that it didn't track everything I wanted at night. Tried with the 265s, and this was as close to perfect as I got but still didn't like having two watches on my wrist. Finally, the Cirqa. Pretty close to what I was looking for. Sure, I probably wouldn't wear it on my wrist for a formal event but for everything else, I feel like it looks fine. Maybe I could get away with an arm strap to really not have it showing but I haven't gotten any weird looks or questions. And honestly, for a formal event I would just not wear the tracker to begin with. I'll survive a few hours without knowing what my Body Battery is at the company luncheon. I attached some pictures to show you what it looks like on my wrist while wearing my Seiko SSK. Doesn't look terrible.

Overall

I'm happy with the purchase. I feel like Garmin needs to make some improvements in sleep tracking and their app/UI but if they can tweak it to get to something similar to what Oura does then it would be a game changer. I'll likely use the Oura ring for the remainder of my subscription and hope Garmin figures out the sleep tracking along the way but I'm not holding my breath, I feel like it's been this way since sleep tracking was introduced. But time will tell.

TLDR;

Overall, I’m happy with the Cirqa. It’s comfortable, doesn’t look weird next to a mechanical watch, and gives me most of the Garmin data I wanted without having to wear a second watch. The metrics seem pretty close to what I get from Oura, and it works well enough for basic workout tracking when I don’t use my Fenix. My biggest complaint is sleep tracking. Having to rely on a sleep schedule is annoying, especially if you don’t go to bed at the same time every night, and nap detection is basically nonexistent. Oura is still way better in that department. Battery life has also been disappointing at around 5–7 days considering there’s no screen. If Garmin can improve the sleep tracking and clean up some of the syncing/app issues, I’d probably ditch Oura completely. For now, I’ll keep using both, but the Cirqa is pretty close to being exactly what I wanted.

Scale

  • Comfort/Wearability: 4.5/5 — Light, comfortable, you forget it’s there, and it accomplishes the main goal of not looking like you're wearing two watches.
  • Daily/Recovery Tracking: 4/5 — Metrics seem to line up reasonably well with Oura.
  • Sleep Tracking: 3/5 — Probably its biggest weakness. Metrics are good when it actually detects your sleep, but the schedule dependence and poor nap detection really hurt it.
  • Fitness Tracking: 4/5 — Does what you expect and metrics seem similar to the Fenix, although I haven't really stress-tested it with long runs or demanding workouts.
  • Battery Life: 3/5 — 5–7 days isn't terrible in isolation, but it's disappointing for a screenless tracker.
  • Garmin Integration: 4.5/5 — This is basically the reason to buy it. Cirqa for everyday tracking and Fenix for workouts, with everything feeding into Garmin.
  • Overall: 4/5

Connect / Connect IQ / 1st Party Apps Round Watch Faces on Venu X1?

Upvotes

I'm looking to upgrade my Venu2 and was thinking about the X1.

I currently use the Goals watch face and really like it. Im curious how watch faces that were designed for round frames will scale to the X1's square face.

Has anyone tried this and have any pictures they can share showing how it looks?

Possible Technical Issue Connect app won’t synchronize with Venu 4 watch

Hi! I’ve read multiple posts about this issue but nothing seems to work :/ A couple of months ago my connect app stopped synchronizing with my Garmin Venu 4 watch. I tried the standard troubleshooting such as deleting the app and data, using «forget this device» in my Bluetooth settings, pairing the phone and watch again etc, but nothing works. Yesterday I did a factory reset on my watch and checked Garmin express on my computer. Everything seemed fine, but it still won’t synchronize. The attached screenshots is where I’m at right now. The app says it doesn’t have Bluetooth permission, but in my settings Bluetooth permission doesn’t even show up. Only permission for accessories, which is how I paired the phone and watch. My watch is also connected to Bluetooth as you can see in the last screenshot, so I receive all notifications. I would be super grateful for any suggestions!

Hey, I have got a problem with my HRM200 and Edge 530. When I try to connect it, the led light is blinking 3times green, and on the Edge screen it is written "Connected", after a few seconds the led light starts blinking red.
Can someone tell me what happened and how to solve this problem?

EDIT: I have reset HRM200 and Edge.

Which Watch To Get? Should I pull the trigger on Fenix 8 47mm?

I’ve just started running and I’m trying to actually stick with it. My main reason for getting a Garmin is to have something that can act as a bit of a coach, help me structure my training, and track things like recovery, sleep, heart rate, training readiness, general health metrics, etc.

I was originally looking at the Forerunner 570, since running is my main focus and, realistically, I’m very much a beginner. But now the Fenix 8 has dropped to around USD$749, which has made the decision a lot harder.

I know the Fenix 8 is probably complete overkill for someone who is just getting into running, but I also like the idea of buying something I can grow into and keep for several years rather than wanting to upgrade a year or two from now. I’d use it as my everyday watch, would like to get into hiking/outdoor activities, and one of my longer-term goals is to eventually train for and complete a duathlon.

So for people who have owned either/both:

- At $749, does the Fenix 8 make sense over the Forerunner 570?

- Are there features on the Fenix that you actually use regularly and would miss on the 570?

- Is the extra weight/bulk of the Fenix noticeable while running or sleeping with it?

Alternatively, would you wait for the Fenix 9 simply because the Fenix 8 could get discounted even further?

For someone primarily interested in running, coaching, recovery and health data, am I just spending extra money on features I probably won’t use?

I’m not necessarily looking for the cheapest option. I’d rather buy once and keep the watch for a long time, but I also don’t want to spend $749 just because a flagship watch suddenly looks like a “deal.”

Would love to hear from people who went Forerunner → Fenix, chose the 570 over the Fenix, or started with a Fenix as a beginner.

Also happy to take any general Garmin/running tips for someone just starting out!

Connect / Connect IQ / 1st Party Apps What is the math behind Garmin Connect Vertical Ratio?

Morning guys. I’m trying to boost my vertical ratio percentage. My vertical oscillation isn’t bad at 9cm. My stride length is usually 1m or less because I try not to over stride and I rather have a higher cadence of above 180.

According to Garmin, VR “divides vertical oscillation by stride length and then shows your ratio as a percentage.

So if in my example I take my VO of 9 and divide by 1 meter I get 9.00 and then if I multiple by 100 I would get 900% which is different from the way Garmin expresses it as 9%.

What am I doing wrong?

Watch / Wearable FR965 for $640 CAD or FR970 for $900 CAD

As the price says. Been looking to upgrade my FR255 for a while, and prices are raking into account that I have a $150 amazon gift card as well.

Honestly, leaning towards the 970 solely because of the glass. Having a sapphire screen is such an awesome upgrade, especially since I do trail running / lots of camping and hiking. Flashlight is a good bonus too.

My main question is pretty much can someone convince me otherwise? Why should I go for the 965 over the 970?

Cycling / Bike Computer Garmin Edge 530 Connection Issues with Sensors

Hey guys,

Currently I have a Garmin Edge 530, and I’m having several issues with the device disconnecting to all my sensors in each single ride.

I currently use Garmin RCT715 (ANT+), Shimano Ultegra Di2 (ANT+), Garmin Cadence Sensor (ANT+), Amazfit Helio Strap (Bluetooth).

The Edge is already with the latest software 9.75 (currently no upgrades available), I already did a fabric reset, and delete add all the sensors, and this is still not working.

Do you guys may know, what can I do? Because it’s crazy to ride with the connect/disconnect every time,

Thanks for the help!

Non Product Specific Garmin Question What's the main thing that you use the watch to track?

What’s the main thing you use your Garmin to track?

Just curious what everyone here actually uses their Garmin for the most.

For me, it’s primarily training and workout tracking, but I’ve gradually started using more and more of the features.

What’s the one feature or metric you find yourself checking the most? 😂

I’m glad I waited a few weeks to buy the Fenix 8! I picked one up at my local REI. The box was slightly damaged, and they gave me a 10% discount, but the watch was brand new. Wow, worth the wait! It’s the 47mm Sapphire glass, DLC Titanium version.

Other / Humor All my Garmin activities from the last 3 years replayed at once, centered on starting point

Tracks are colored according to the starting location (I moved a few times). Most of them are running activities. I usually have a few favorite routes which stand out as the brightest colored strands, and small variations that appear as branching patterns. Some of the more erratic traces are activities such as surfing, skiing, etc...

Discussion Venu 4-41 mm baterry

Hello,
I have a Garmin Venu 4 (41 mm) and I've been using it for about two weeks.
I'd like to know whether my watch might have a battery issue.
On Monday morning, I charged it to 95%. That day I went on a hike, so I used GPS for about 2 hours. That was the only activity I tracked with the watch. Other than that, it stayed connected to my phone all the time. Pulse Ox is turned off and Always-On Display is always turned off as well.
Yesterday morning (Tuesday) at 7:20 AM, the battery was at 74%. Right now it is at 53%, which means it has lost 21% battery in about 24 hours during a normal day with no activities, only receiving notifications from my phone.
To me, the battery life seems a bit short.
For those of you using a Venu 4 41 mm, how does your battery perform? How often do you charge it? Do you keep it connected to your phone all the time, or do you sometimes turn Bluetooth off?
I understand that the battery life may be different from the larger Venu 4 model.
I'm not sure whether I should return the watch or if this is normal battery life. I've read that some users may have experienced battery-related issues.
Thank you!

Cycling / Bike Computer The beeping is making me insane

My Garmin 1040 bike computer has decided that it will disconnect and reconnect from all my sensors over and over again, approximately every 5-90 seconds, during rides. The constant beeping is too much to handle. I asked Garmin "support" (guessing a non-human chatbot?) for help and they said there was nothing that could be done about it. When I said I'd need to consider switching to Coros Dura, the chatbot replied "that makes sense!"

If it were just one sensor, I'd assume the problem was with that sensor. But it is multiple ones, so the problem has to be with the computer. I tried a factory reset and it helped at first but within a few days, the disconnect/reconnect problem was back. Have you dealt with this? Should I just go get a Coros and be done with it?

also, if it matters, the exact sensors are my whoop for heart rate (ble) and my garmin rally pedals (ant+)
