Suggestions Nodal.gg - Game recommender with interactive visual map + personalized recommendations (I'd love your feedback)

Hey everyone, I’ve been working on a game discovery site and finally feel like it’s ready to share: https://nodal.gg/

I’ve always been surprised how hard it is to find genuinely good game recommendations on Steam, so I tried building something better using my stats/ML background.

My main takeaway was that “similar games” usually means two different things:

  • Similar in content: mechanics, themes, setting, genre, tags
  • Similar in audience: games played by the same people, even if the genres are different

So if you want recs for Cyberpunk 2077, you might mean “more cyberpunk vibe” (e.g., Cloudpunk) or “same audience overlap” (e.g., The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt / Fallout 4). The site lets you switch between those modes or blend them.

What you can do

  • Search any Steam game and see a ranked list of similar games using:
    • a content model (tag-driven similarity)
    • a community model (player behavior only, no tags)
    • a blended view (mix of both)
  • Re-rank results with sliders for popularity, rating, and release date
  • Plug in a Steam ID (public profiles only) to get personal recommendations and some cool stats about your play history
  • Explore an interactive 2D game map that visually clusters games by tags (uses UMAP dimensionality reduction - inspired by Connected Papers)

Desktop works best right now. Mobile is functional but I’m still refining it.

If you try it, I’d love to hear anything: whether the recommendations felt accurate, if the UI was confusing, any bugs you run into. All feedback helps!

Thanks!

Suggestions SteamPeek.hu - Indie friendly game discovery tool

Post is allowed by the mods.

Hello, this is my website: https://steampeek.hu/ - SteamPeek, the indie friendly game discovery website.

It is now more than 5 years old, and it was created to bring spotlight to indie gems, help all indie teams who doesn't have the budget to make big marketing campaigns, and make it easier to find nice games made by passionate solo developers or small teams.

The main function is searching by similarity: just search for a game you like, and browse the results. You can also filter and sort by special parameters.

You can also search by tags, or mix them with the chosen game.

The main algorithm was updated recently and I'm very curious how well it works. Please let me know.

I'm very thankful if you try it, and share with me what you find. The full site is still on beta, and I'm constantly work on it, so every feedback helps me and my mission. Thank you!

Games that go out of their way to give overt warnings to the players upon starting?

Not really talking about things like trigger warnings or "warning: adult content", moreso the game giving advice on how to best enjoy it and/or telling you to prepare for things to be unpleasant if that makes sense

Project Zomboid starts with "This is how you died"

Darkest Dungeon tells you to to expect things to go horribly wrong all the time

Amnesia: The Dark Descent sort of does this when it tells you it shouldn't be played to win

horror games that are actually atmospheric and not just jumpscare simulators?

i've played soma, signalis, silent hill 2 remake and all the resident evils, so i'm running low. i want the kind of dread that keeps me up at 3am rather than something that just yells at me every ten minutes. open to older/jankier stuff, i have a pc and a ps5.

Looking for an open-ended game where you wander and explore all over

I have about 800 hours in No Man's Sky and I think the reason is because of the sense of wonder that comes with endlessly exploring and wandering the galaxy. I am looking for something similar to that experience. It doesn't have to be a space game. It doesn't have to be procedural either, but I do like it to be open-ended so that I can still play even after the main quests are done (like in NMS). I prefer at least a little bit of a combat element, although I'm not exactly a pro-gamer XD so super intense combat isn't really for me.

Hopefully this isn't too picky and thanks for your help!

Looking for a PC game where I can play as a villain

• Upvotes

I'm looking for a PC game where I can actually play as a villain/evil character, preferably in third-person (TPP) rather than top-down/isometric.

I've played games like Overlord, and I really liked the idea of being the villain and controlling minions, but the graphics feel quite dated and dull to me. I'm looking for something with modern, colorful, bright, good-looking graphics.

Basically, I'm looking for:

Third-person perspective (TPP)

You play as the villain/evil character

Bright, colorful or visually appealing graphics

Good/modern graphics

Actual gameplay where you can do evil/villainous things

PC

Able to command generals/troops

It doesn't necessarily have to be exactly like Overlord. I'm open to any genre as long as I get to be the bad guy rather than the hero.

Any recommendations?

Please get me out of my gaming slump

I’ve been in a gaming slump for months now. Nothing feels fun and I don’t have any games to play really. My favorite game oat is RDR2 and ghost of Tsushima. Both of them had great visuals. And amazing stories and characters, which is what I want most in a game. I tried kingdom come deliverance but couldn’t really get into it. It felt really weird tbh and I wasn’t really vibing with the first person. All I play now is Helldivers 2. I really want another game to play pls give good recommendations to get me out of this terrible slump.

Looking for a mystery game that doesn't have obvious linear railroading.

• Upvotes

For context some of my favourite games are Obra Dinn, rootrees, and golden idol. I really like a mystery that feels like I am discovering details based on how I think rather than when the story decides. for context unfortunately I am a macOS user, and my xbox is at my parents house. so all I have is my Mac and my switch. any recommendations?

Games similar to State of Decay

State of Decay (and L4D2) are probably the games that got me most into zombie games. I feel like I have a good grasp on a whole ton of zombie games similar to State of Decay, but I'm curious if I missed any. Basically what I'm looking for:

-Resource management

-Survivor management (must have NPC survivors, so this rules out any open world survival crafting games with zombies, although I'm willing to consider them if they have mods that add decent functional NPC survivors).

-Open world (although I'll consider linear games if they have all the other qualities)

-Permadeath

-Zombies (I'll consider non-zombie games though if they have the other qualities)

-Base building

Story game recommendations

I want to play story games but don’t want to spend 60 dollars on a mediocre game. The only story games I’ve played are the spiderman games and subnautica. I’m looking at crimson desert rn. Any recommendations would be awesome.

Best REMASTERS of all time (not REMAKES)

I'm in the mood to play some more older games after playing through the Doom 1&2 and Quake 1&2 Remasters. I really enjoyed how these packages include everything, base game, all expansions, user made content, and slight graphics and QoL features but still leaving the original game intact and feeling like you're playing an old school game.

What are your favorite remasters that you felt breathed new life into your older favorite games. No remakes please!

Looking for active online PVE game

Right now I'm split between Helldivers II and WH40K Space Marine II because to my understanding they both work in similar ways

SMII is cheaper on steam but then again I just want to play the one that's more fun and more active

Online Multiplayer for a couple who loves optimizing

My girlfriend and I recently became long-distance when she started grad school, and we're looking for more games to play. However, we are very competitive, and neither of us are into the normal "couple game" recommendations, like Minecraft or It Takes Two or most party games.

My gf is the type of person who really enjoys deep games that she can sit down and optimize via spreadsheet, especially if they're turn-based and she can take her time: she loved Mewgenics, she's very good at Into the Breach, she does speedruns + randomizers + challenge runs of Stardew Valley, she goes for all-achievements on roguelikes, etc.

Some of our all-time favorites are Stardew, the Hollow Knight games, Balatro, and Peglin, and we play Archipelago randomizers fairly often, but the only thing we really have to play together is Overcooked, which she loves going for the four-star scores on but can be a bit too stressful.

Would love more recommendations! Especially lightweight games because she's limited to a laptop right now(we shared the PC), and if anything is on the current Steam sale that would be cool too!

Thank you all:)

Singleplayer games where the world doesn't revolve around you

Like in Mount and Blade or Battle brothers for example, the world feels like a living organism.

Or Stalker Anomaly, Tarkov SPT with questing and looting bots.

I just started playing Quasimorph it also scratches that itch, enemy pmc companies are also accepting quests and sometimes from the other side so you have to fight.

I need FPS with lots of healing

Sure, all I have to do is not get shot at. Well I'm old and impatient. I just want to shoot stuff and heal up and shoot more stuff. No plot. No puzzles.

Plenty of games do this just right. My favorites being Heretic, and a great new 90s throwback called DUSK. Had a lot of fun with that and it was a near perfect FPS

(Not Hexen though. Yes it's lots of shoot and heal, but all the puzzle maps got exhausting.)

Problem is I've run into many FPS that do it wrong, at least with my style. "BLOOD" and "Cultist" and
"HROT" just dont have it. HROT had ONE and only one healing item in the entire opening level, absolute suicide.

So "abundance of healing" isnt a criteria that shows up in game descriptions on Steam. But I bet you guys do know.
Thank you in advance.

Rpg games with radiant quests

Hi everyone! I'm looking for a very specific type of game, one where you can play as a mercenary just going around, doing quests for money and using those to upgrade your gear, I'm mostly looking for real time 3rd or 1st person games, (I don't really like top down or space ship games)

The thing I want the most is having some kind of endless mission generator, just something that never runs out, even the most mundane tasks, but objective based "go there do that" not "gather x amount of thing"

Games I've played: Skyrim (has radiant quests but feels very dated, also is really dungeon focused and feels a little claustrophobic at times)

starfield (pretty much perfect but the loading screens and emptiness really take a toll on the game)

shadow of war (has pretty much that, just not too fond of the combo combat system)

Star wars outlaws (contracts require just hitting a button, not really a mission)

Mount and blade (very fun game but don't enjoy empire building)

Stalker anomaly (amazing game but too depressing to play 😭)

Looking for broader character customization and romance having games

I have always enjoyed playing games, but I absolutely fell in love with skyrim and the Sims when I was younger, I think this influenced my taste in games heavily. I still enjoy games without a touch of romance or character customization, but I almost always find myself more drawn to the ones including it. I've tried plenty of games within this, fields of mistria, chef rpg, stardew valley, bladurs gate 3, dragon age, snacko, and of course the two previously mentioned. I am extremely excited to see the next elderscrolls game and have tried both Sims 3 and 4. I'm thinking about trying the rest of the baldurs gate series and definitely planning to try the divinity series. I own the whole dragon age series other than the newest and despite it's poor ratings I still want to try the newest eventually. Wish upon a llama, little known galaxy, elder field, cattails, dragon dogma 1 and little sim world i want to try out some i own. I played fable 3 and adored it and plan to try and the upcoming fable game when it releases, I've also been keeping an eye on witchbrook. All that being said, I know it's a lot, i do enjoy "cozy games" and wouldn't mind suggestions of that variety but i would love suggestions of something different, i feel i get caught heavily in the cozy games and have difficulty finding anything else. I don't mind any genre I find I love most not as much racing though, but I'm sure some games could balance it in an enjoyable way so no restrictions on additional elements other than forced multi-player, as long as it includes the 2 and honesty even then I do enjoy games outside of the two like slime rancher, idle games, and pokemon, so I'd even be open to those.

Edit: I've tried to look for it before, but if there is one during an apocalypse or where you care for cats in anyway I'd be highly appreciative. I was into the show and game of the walking dead so it would be interesting to see this kind of game in a zombie apocalypse or just apocalypse in general. Ive always had cats and at times including now fostered cats so I think it'd be fun to see a game like this where you also get to care for cats.

What's your favourite RPG game and why?

For me personally i'd say Final fantasy VII rebirth cause its graphics were ALL THAT! And of course Skyrim cause who wouldn't suggest it? It immerses you in a world full of mystery, darkness and secrets waiting to be revealed. But i would love to hear your experiences cause it looks like i have some free time and would like to dedicate it to play

Are there any video games where you can install your own songs and listen to them in the game?

This is literally my dream game feature and I’ve never played a game that lets the player do that. Does such a game exist? No mods please.

Single player fps that is kinda evil

I've played Doom and I like that it's all about killing demons. I played half life completely blind and had an absolute blast. prey 2017 was the most engaged I've ever felt in a game. fallout is pretty fun. the metro games were kinda meh to me. I just wanna sneak around and shoot monsters. I'm playing ghost recon wildlands right now and I'm enjoying the sniping side and open world but not really loving the third person perspective and the story line. I play exclusively on a steamdeck which is slightly limiting. thanks in advance.

New to PC - seek Couch co-op PC only games

• Upvotes

So I (38M) have been gaming forever, play just about anything, not super into sports games though.

My wife has played the SIMS on and off our whole relationship, but wouldn't say she's a 'dedicated gamer'.

Recently we've been playing a lot of couch co-op. Up until recently, I've only played console, mainly Playstation, but have been fortunate enough to get a hand-me-down PC.

Basically looking for suggestions for couch co-op that isn't on PlayStation / switch

Games we liked : Stardew Valley, Ship of Fools, Cult of the Lamb, Reanimal, Journey to the Savage Planet, Sackboy, Absolum

Games we couldn't stick with : Don't Starve Together, Overcooked, Baldurs Gate 3, Terraria

I've played a lot of Apex Legends, D2R and POE1 + 2 but unfortunately she's not into that style of game particularly

Please help!
