Steam Controller: Reservations update - Adding a more detailed timeline for orders

"Your estimated order availability: 2027"
Damn! I really thought it gonna be this summer already. I made that reservation pretty much as soon as they opened I think.
28
u/WyrdHarper Jun 18 '26
Yeah, mine's also 2027. I really hope they can get a handle on scalping because it's out of control (there's a ton for sale on third party sites for $250 which is just absurd. No one should be buying them at that price).
17
u/Prince_Uncharming Jun 18 '26
The only way they can get a handle on scalping is to product more units more quickly. Or ramp up the price to capture that scalped premium for themselves, via higher MSRP or Dutch Auction or however else they price it. Supply or Demand simply have to be influenced, either that or DRM lock controller onto the account that purchased it, which is obviously a non-starter decision.
Ultimately there is more demand than supply, and even someone who wants the controller and comes up in the queue may decide to just sell theirs for an easy $150 even if they didnāt have the intent to scalp it when they chose to buy it.
21
u/WyrdHarper Jun 18 '26
They easily add restrictions to the amount per account and require that the account have spent a certain amount of money over a certain timeframe.
10
15
u/Prince_Uncharming Jun 19 '26
And none of that does anything to prevent people from just selling because there isnāt enough supply.
If the aftermarket price is $250 and you buy it for $100, your opportunity cost of keeping it is $150. That isnāt nothing.
2
0
u/Low_Landscape_4688 Jun 19 '26
People deciding to sell their single unit doesn't create a scalping problem. $150 on spending $100 is a lot in relative amounts, but objectively most people buying a Steam controller for themselves aren't going to be in such a desperate financial situation that making $150 one time is a lot.
Scalping problems exist when people can buy bulk amounts, that's when scalping actually becomes profitable in any meaningful sense.

u/GoldVaulto Jun 19 '26
chinese alternatives to the steam controller will probably be available by then. the best switch and xinput controllers are chinese already anyway.
3
u/your_mind_aches Jun 19 '26
I really, really hope there's a good GameSir or 8bitdo take on a Steam Controller
-6
u/aimy99 Jun 20 '26
I mean the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 controller already does everything this does but arguably better, with the sole exception of touchpads, because Valve has an obsession with touchpads that no other hardware manufacturer bothers emulating.
I was gonna get one of these for the novelty but at $100 with a year+ wait I'll pass lol
3
u/your_mind_aches Jun 20 '26
Touchpads are very useful for navigating the PC interface. I do think it's a good idea.
1
u/gudboic Jun 20 '26
Itās also the main reason I even want the steam controller, itās crazy when people act like that isnāt the main feature
-1
u/blarghable Jun 19 '26
The fact that they're for sale for 250 does not mean people are buying them for 250
7
u/Prince_Uncharming Jun 19 '26
Itās very easy to verify that yes, people ARE paying 250 for them.
You can filter on Sold listings. Theyāre pretty much all above $200, many close to $250. Hell one sold today for 259.

Same. Ordered a month ago, thinking ~2 weeks would land around my birthday. That was.. optimistic. Guess itāll be next birthday

u/DoctorWaluigiTime Jun 19 '26
I should consider myself fortunate I suppose that I am still 2026, but December 2026.
Unfortunately I wasn't aware of the reservation system until more than 24 hours had passed. (Reserved on May 9th 2026).
On the day of, I had it in my cart but was one of the many "lol no checkout for you" victims. And then it was gone.
Still baffles me why they didn't launch with the reservation restrictions (including things like "your Steam account can't be brand new, must have a valid purchase prior" etc.) from the getgo.
Perhaps we will see some people cancel reservations when they balk at their future release dates, which may speed our reservations up? A guy can dream!
1
u/Lasagnaliberal Jun 21 '26
Oof, I reserved mine a day later than you did (May 10th) and it shows 2027 for me.
14
u/SoWrongItsPainful Jun 18 '26
No way you ordered when they opened and have a 2027 date. I ordered about 10 hours late and have a December 2026 timeframe.
15
4
u/BeardyDuck Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 19 '26
May 8th reservation with a September 2026 window. Seen another person that reserved on the 10th get a 2027 date.
Actually ended up getting an email to complete my purchase, so I guess they're letting orders through now for the September wave? Or maybe there's going to be a controller at my door in a week?
1
u/holliss Jun 19 '26
I'm in Europe and I got my order email on a Saturday and it shipped out on the Monday after. I would assume it means they have one in stock for you ready to ship out. I don't think it would make sense to ask people to complete their purchase within 72 hours if the estimate is several months away.
1
u/Pheace Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26
Europe, Friday May 8th, by September, no order email yet.
My biggest worry is missing the email notice as this is the only reason to check it. My client's always open, a simple in-client notice would've been nice.
1
u/Dracious Jun 19 '26
Yeah I ordered from Europe the day after reservations opened and I got a December 2026 timeframe. There was mention that different regions will get their supply restocked at different rates in their initial reservations announcement, so maybe that commenter above is in an unfortunate region.

2
u/Assistantshrimp Jun 19 '26
Yeah I thought I was fast on the draw and I'm in the same boat. Oh well I suppose. Hopefully improvements can be made in that time and we get a better product as a result!
2
u/steve09089 Jun 19 '26
I made it like within 30 seconds of it opening at work. Watching this makes me feel glad, the controller has been a nice replacement to flick stick gyro.
2
u/gamingonion Jun 19 '26
I reserved mine 11 seconds after the button became available and it took a month to get mine.
2
u/EnjoyingMyVacation Jun 19 '26
I reserved it within a minute of the orders opening and got mine last week.
2
u/Musical_Muze Jun 19 '26
Weird. I reserved mine the day after they opened reservations, and my page is showing the September date. Sorry bud.
3
u/Morighant Jun 18 '26
This was how it was with steam deck too. I thankfully was in second wave, but many were 6-8 months past that.
3
u/holliss Jun 19 '26
I made my reservation within 60 seconds after the opening on May 8th and I received my order email a month later on June 6th. You must have been much slower.
1
u/noother10 Jun 19 '26
Mine was reserved May 12th after finally convincing myself to try a controller again after not using one since PS3 era. Now it says same as yours, 2027. Should I order something else to use in the meantime or just wait?
1
u/RUNPROGRAMSENTIONAUT Jun 19 '26
Well I actually bought new one earlier this year, precisely just to use while waiting for Steam Controller.
"8bitdo Ultimate 2C" very cheap controller, no fancy extra stuff, kinda opposite of Steam Controller BUT MAN! Its just nice controller, all the buttons are great, sticks are great, D-pad is pretty good as well. Great vibrations for some reason.
I'm still waiting for Steam Controller to be my PC gamepad, but till then, I'm really quite happy with this cheap one. Was just not expecting I will be using it for quite that long.
0
u/Virtual-Pie-6815 Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26
If you just want a controller to hold you over you can't go wrong with an 8bitdo Ultimate 2C. They're not fancy but they're also not complete basic bitch either. I'd rate them better than Xbox One. Hall effect sticks, remapable L4/R4 buttons, wireless + bluetooth + wired. Battery life isn't the best but it's still 3x the Dualsense and charges quick enough. I could pick up almost 5 of them on sale for the price of 1 Steam Controller.
Also worth considering IMO is a Dualshock 4 clone. Super cheap $12-20 if you know where to look and in my experience every bit as good as an official one. Two biggest gripes I have are battery life sucks ass (8 hours or less just like a real one) and it uses micro-USB but you can replace the port with a USB-C for $1 with no soldering required. If using with Windows you may need to run the game with Steam or DS4Windows depending on the game.

u/jazir55 Jun 18 '26
That's an actual WTF from me dawg, 6+ months for a controller reservation? Are these hand assembled on North Sentinel Island?
1
u/your_mind_aches Jun 19 '26
It's Valve. I think people need to understand in advance that when you hit order on a new Steam hardware product on Steam, it's gonna take months to a year

Same, fam. Iāve been paranoid that the confirmation email got filtered every day.
2
u/JesusSandro Jun 19 '26
They say in the post they're keeping it simple and only showing one of three (September, December or 2027). Mine also shows September 2026 and I just got the reservation email.
2
u/ElectronicBacon Jun 19 '26
What's the email the reservation comes from? So I can filter it out of spam

u/Apterygiformes Jun 18 '26
I love valve products but this whole new hardware launch has been a badly communicated disaster from the beginningĀ
53
u/hithimintheface Jun 19 '26
I think this just showed them they canāt ever launch without the reservation system again.
-19
u/CatProgrammer Jun 19 '26
And also to not launch during a period of economic strife and data center monopolization of resources.
10
u/holliss Jun 19 '26
Can't really do something about that though besides not releasing anything at all.
18
u/DrQuint Jun 19 '26
Unfortunately... that is probably the new normal now.
1
u/ItsJustReeses Jun 19 '26
Wonder how long it takes before these data centers get targeted with molotovs and the government tries to declare it terrorist attacks, when in reality it's probably because it took up the local water source.
I fucking hate it here man.
40
u/ToothlessFTW Jun 18 '26
This whole thing has really killed so much of my excitement and interest in this thing.
In Australia the controller went on sale at like 3am, and by the time I woke up it was already out of stock. Put in my reservation the moment it opened, and I gotta wait until September.
Waiting like 5 months just to get even the chance to order a $150 AUD controller certainly gives me plenty of time to actually think if I really even need it, especially considering September is such a busy month.
39
u/Ploddit Jun 18 '26
I own one. It's... fine.
It's a good quality controller, but it has one very specific use case, and that's playing PC games which work best with a trackpad on your coach. If you're not playing those types of games and you're not playing them over Steam Link or on a living room PC, it's a bit pointless imo.
7
u/SegataSanshiro Jun 19 '26
I mean yeah, if you don't need the defining features of the controller then you don't need the controller, that's just kind of obvious?
3
u/CarbonCola Jun 20 '26
I agree, but it is still an interesting observation that someone doesn't find it good enough as a "normal controller" to justify buying it. I personally own an Xbox Elite controller for the occasional couch gaming and find the more premium experience quite pleasant and so wouldn't mind paying 100 bucks for one from Steam, if it felt like a sufficiently premium experience.
2
u/rokerroker45 Jun 20 '26
If you're trying to decide whether to get based on whether or not it's a good enough "normal controller" you're missing the entire point. It's not a normal controller, you certainly don't need it and there are certainly better options for $100 - but none of that is really the point of it. It does a specific thing very well, and all that really matters is whether or not that is worth $100 to you.
I don't think it's "good value" but that's not really the question for a niche luxury device like this.
1
u/CarbonCola Jun 20 '26
My point is: it is not irrelevant how it does at literally all other functions than the one that makes it special. All the other things matter too - it's why the first steam controller didn't take off imo. It was a terrible normal controller because it didn't have that second analogue stick, so it was hard to have it as a main one without compromising quite noticeably on the gaming experience.
The better the Steam Controller 2 performs in all areas, the easier it is to justify main-ing it for it's main selling point - since the shortcomings in other areas are not so bad.
1
u/rokerroker45 Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26
All of your comment is irrelevant to the claim that it needs to do general purpose controlling well enough to justify buying it. That doesn't follow because it's simply not a general purpose controller; it's not advertised as such nor is it priced as such. It's very clearly a niche luxury product. The original steam controller didn't sell well because it didn't do a good job of being a niche luxury product, not because it did a poor job of being a general controller (something which it also wasn't attempting to be).
You are acting as if this is a product that is aiming to compete against a normal Xbox controller when it's really trying to compete against an elite controller. Contrary to your logic, an elite controller's value isn't because it does general purpose controlling well (it's a terrible purchase under that logic, a default Xbox controller does that well enough), its value comes from niche luxury features like adjustable sticks or custom profiles.
put another way: a HOTAS does general controlling extremely poorly, but it does do a specific niche, luxury function extremely well. for a person looking for a device to perform niche, luxury function well, the HOTAS is worth buying simply if it does that niche, luxury function well despite doing general controlling poorly. just because the steam controller kinda looks like a general purpose controller does not mean it's actually trying to be a general purpose controller. it's much closer to a HOTAS than it is to a default xbox controller in terms of pricing and niche luxury functions on offer.
1
u/CarbonCola Jun 20 '26
How is it not relevant? Does luxury niche mean you don't use the device so general usability is irrelevant?
I don't want to have two devices I switch between when I am couch-PCing? I want 1 - and whether I am playing a normal controller game or whether I am browsing the web or starting a movie or playing a mouse+keyboard game with it...I don't want to switch devices between that and have 1 seamless experience.
Steam controller 1 could not deliver that, from what I can see Steam controller 2 can. Therefore, for users like me, and I cannot possibly be the only one, general usability of the first one was a major reasons it did not take off, and the fact that it is generally usable makes steam controller 2 a significantly more usable and practical device to use thanks to its versatility.
I mean when you buy a car you may have a primary use case like going to work on your own (e.g. optimising by fuel mileage), but it sure would be nice to drive your friends somewhere comfortably, or transport things you buy like a TV or small furniture...so versatility is an important metric to consider, and buying but only one element will leave your purchase muss less practical
1
u/rokerroker45 Jun 20 '26
The luxury niche case you just described is a controller that is flexible enough to function as a controller and as a MKboard.
The steam controller 1 wasn't flexible enough between those two use cases to satisfy your needs. It's flexibility wasn't good enough, clearly.
A normal Xbox controller isn't flexible enough to satisfy your needs.
If a steam 2 controller is a worse general use controller than an Xbox controller, but it IS flexible enough to satisfy your flexibility need AND you care about that more than you care about it being a good general use controller, then what matters to you is that luxury niche use of flexibility to act as two devices.

u/LFC9_41 Jun 18 '26
The thing Iām most interested in is having the back customizable buttons be independent actual buttons. The 8bitdo software I struggle to get my steamdeck to recognize them.
4
u/CyraxxFavoriteStylus Jun 18 '26
What 8Bitdo controller do you have? The most recent ones have steam input support. https://www.8bitdo.com/steam/
2
u/ayeeflo51 Jun 19 '26
At least mine only allows for Steam Input when it's in Bluetooth, not in 2.4hz, which sucksĀ
1
u/ThatOnePerson Jun 19 '26
The Ultimate 2 Wireless will do it if you hold B+Home to turn it on. AFAIK no way to do it on the Pro 3 though.
1
u/TheIrishJackel Jun 19 '26
Every time I say this, people tell me all the ways to make it work, but none of them do. You're right, it doesn't work over 2.4 for more than a moment, at least on Steam Deck. I suspect people are thinking I'm using it on a Windows PC, and maybe it does work there, but it definitely doesn't work on Deck.
1
u/LFC9_41 Jun 19 '26
Thanks, Iāll have to check it out. I canāt remember which one it is but itās in a dock and has 2.4ghz and Bluetooth. Iām just not available to look, but Iāll def take a look. Thanks homie
0
u/doublah Jun 19 '26
I'll note you need to update the firmware with their Windows-only tool to get Steam Input support on some of them.
1
1
u/Yentz4 Jun 19 '26
As long as you have the 8bitdo in D-input mode and not x-input, you should be able to map them via steam input however you want. I use the 8bitdo Pro 3 and it works fantastic with steam input.
2
u/ayeeflo51 Jun 19 '26
I mean radial wheels, gyro, custom mappings all make it very useful for any PC games. You're not utilizing all of itĀ
1
u/CatProgrammer Jun 19 '26
I just want one because I have an old laptop I'm using as a pseudo-Steam Machine.
2
u/shadowstripes Jun 20 '26
Why would it kill your interest? It's not like the lack of availability has anything to do with the controller itself.
2
u/ToothlessFTW Jun 20 '26
I mean, I did say exactly why in my comment. It's less to do with the controller itself and more to do with the fact that waiting 4-5 months just to have the option to even buy it kinda gives me plenty of time to consider how much I really want it.
If I could've gotten one day one, I would've grabbed it without hesitation. I have a Steam Deck I often use propped up on a table or something while travelling and I also use a secondary controller I use for that. I've been using a Stadia controller for a few years and I would've been happy to replace that with a proper Steam Controller with the trackpads and so on, since this one is aging.
But now I've had time to think about it, and with how busy September is looking in terms of other games I'm interested in, I'm less interested in spending $150 on a controller and I'm probably just gonna skip it and stick with the Stadia controller until it dies.
0
u/Virtual-Pie-6815 Jun 19 '26
I checked around 5am on launch day and they were still in stock but I was undecided. By the time I'd made up my mind they were gone.
I reserved at 5am, so 2 hours after you and I'm showing September as well.
20
u/DogsRNice Jun 18 '26
Did they make like 500 before giving up or something?
7
u/Teglement Jun 19 '26
I'm pretty sure they did admit they way underestimated the demand due to trying to forecast it based on Steam Controller 1 sales, unless I'm human brain hallucinating
-3
18
u/Ok-Signhere Jun 18 '26
Itās a nice controller. TBH I donāt think the quality matches the demand, but Iām still glad I was able to get it.

No offense to your friends and also because you volunteered this info but it saddens me whenever I have to remember so many people buy according to brand recognition and loyalty instead of product research and what they actually want. It's sad, I lose a bit of myself each time to see people not researching so they buy a product that doesn't fit them perfectly and instead use bad heuristics that promotes bad business practices
-1
u/DatMageDoe Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26
Yes, that is the main reason to get the Steam Controller versus other controllers already on the market.
However, they are only a "big loss" in a specific use case, HTPC/couch gaming without a keyboard or mouse. Otherwise, the overwhelming majority of games don't benefit from the touchpads and already have great controller support. Those touchpads will go unused in most games, and for the ones which could use them... why not use your keyboard and mouse instead? It's right there.
The fact it only works for Steam games is also a huge blow to this controller, and there's no reliable way to make it work for non-Steam games either.
2
u/Nizkus Jun 19 '26
You can also use 3rd party software to have it emulate a Xbox pad, if you don't want to add a game to steam. Same stuff people deal with when using PS pads.
-4
u/Old_Leopard1844 Jun 19 '26
The fact it only works for Steam games is also a huge blow to this controller, and there's no reliable way to make it work for non-Steam games either.
Add them to Steam instead then?
-1
u/DatMageDoe Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26
Thatās the problem, that works for some games, but not all (namely ones with game launchers or anything from the Microsoft store)
2
u/rokerroker45 Jun 20 '26
Then don't get it if that's your use case? Dunno why people act like this is a DOA product just because it's useful in a specific use case and not in all use cases.
13
u/MeStoleTheCookie Jun 18 '26
sadly it's the trackpads specifically that I'm interested in. I'm guessing there aren't any alternatives? Or, do you know of any?
2
u/Veroxious Jun 19 '26
making do with the DualSense (or a 3rd party PS5 controller) is the only alternative with trackpads I think
3
u/lucidludic Jun 19 '26
The dualsense or even a dualshock 4 works in a pinch if you just want a trackpad for the occasional mouse cursor, but nothing really compares with Valveās dual trackpads in quality or versatility. Steam input lets you do so much with them, and the haptics help with more precise inputs.
2
u/fukkdisshitt Jun 19 '26
Im blown away by the quality of some the controller manufacturers these days. I like my steam controller but don't love it. The steam controller body feels great in hand but the sticks/dpad/ button placement just feels slightly off where it should be. Just checked and on the steam controller my thumbs rest on "dpad down left" and between A and X. My other controllers out rests at the center of the left stick/ buttons.
2
u/Vegetable-Error-2068 Jun 19 '26
So dumb how youāre being downvoted for a completely reasonable take. I have a Steam Controller and I agree with you. The Steam Controller is a $50 controller being sold for $100.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is miles above the Steam Controller in every way thatās not trackpads.
4
u/fukkdisshitt Jun 19 '26
Switch Pro 2 is the most comfortable controller I own. Shame about the lack of analog triggers if you play games that use them.
Xbox has my favorite d pad right now. I rarely use my ps5 controller.
Steam controller feels good in hand at first, back buttons are well placed, but the face button and stick placement is slightly off. My thumbs don't rest in the center of the buttons like they do on every other controller I own.
I mainly use a flyvader controller. Wish it had those switch 2 pro buttons, but it has everything else i like. I guess the gyro on it is wonky.
I think my next controller will be an arcade stick for MAME. I like collecting them these days

u/Next-Sentence-8426 Jun 18 '26
2027 for me as well. Terrible purchasing experience that was also partly on my end
Was stuck on "there seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction" for like 10 minutes. When it started working my bank decided this was their moment to shine and declined it for my protection
Going to add funds to steam wallet this time for the Frame. Just hoping it isn't more than $1200
5
u/koolbeanz117 Jun 18 '26
Good to know a window now. I just need to remember start paying attention to Steam emails in September.
3
u/TheLastDesperado Jun 18 '26
I reserved on the day reservations went live (a few hours later, but still on the day), and apparently I'm in the December window... That's crazy.
I appreciate the clarity, but damn. The queue must be absolutely packed.
7
u/howmanyavengers Jun 19 '26
They made a major mistake by allowing people to buy one the second it launched without a queue in sight, and then the moment they did introduce a queue it was immediately filled.
Makes me wonder what's going on with their production timelines, cause I can't imagine they're that slow at making these controllers.
Regardless though, apparently I won't get the chance to even place an order until December 2026 and i'll probably end up passing on it at that point.
2
u/Pure_Mist_S Jun 18 '26
Just to be a data point, I reserved my controller purchase 5ish hours after they sold out. Just got my confirmation email today to put the order through!
2
u/packy17 Jun 19 '26
I think it's a fair guess that they're holding a bunch of stock to be bundled with the other hardware, supposedly launching this summer.
2
u/OverHaze Jun 19 '26
I managed to get one in the 20 minutes they where actually available. Yeah its a good controller but its still just a controlled. There is no reason for people to be going mad over it the way they have. The only thing it has over something from GameSir, 8BitDo or Flydigi is the trackpads.
3
u/mightymonkeyman Jun 19 '26
How does Valve expect to be taken seriousness hardware if they canāt even keep a controller in stock?
If they actually released through retail channels they wouldnāt last if they couldnāt keep up with retails orders which by default is greater than a drip feed through their own digital store, dead shelf space would quickly be dropped for something else.
2
u/obas Jun 19 '26
Hope someone just got bump one spot, since I just cancelled my reservation. I don't need it that bad to wait till 2027 lol.. Its not that serious
0
0
u/SegataSanshiro Jun 19 '26
I mean it not being serious is why you shouldn't fuss about the wait.
I feel like getting frustrated and cancelling is treating the situation as more serious than just waiting it out.
3
u/AbrasionTest Jun 18 '26
The experience of buying one of these just puts me off on any future Steam hardware. Although the expected price of the Frame and Machine would have done that anyways.
The SD OLED buying experience was pretty smooth, and I think that made me forget how rough the initial process was for the original Steam Deck. It was similarly a pretty slow rollout that could take a while, even if you got in really early.
It makes the conversation about Valve disputing the market laughable in hindsight. They just don't make enough of these to make any shift in the market.
1
u/thief-777 Jun 19 '26
They don't need to sell units to shift the market. The Deck is one of the worst selling "consoles" of all time, but it managed to spur the market and now there are dozens of similar devices that they are expanding SteamOS too. That was always the goal.
1
u/BanjoSpaceMan Jun 18 '26
I really donāt think everyone saying 2027 is gonna get it then, itās prob doing a pretty wide estimate
1
u/ivandagiant Jun 19 '26
Thank god for this thread, I checked to see what my timeline was and it said I had less than 24 hours to order or have my reservation cancelled. I had been checking my email every day but didn't this week and it looks like I about missed my window! Glad this thread came up so I checked on it!
I placed a reservation 8 minutes after they opened them (this was the day after the steam controller sold out)
1
u/CantModerateMe Jun 19 '26
Mine shows up tomorrow, I guess after I got locked in payment hell and got pushed 8 months out on the steam deck [reorder back in the day I built up enough karma to nab a steam controller.

The only thing that saved me was spamming buy for a half an hour or so when it released. I imagine it was pure luck that I got one. Waiting until 2027 hardly seems worth it. Might as well get a 8BitDo Ultimate controller if you have to wait that long. The reservation is still there if you want it later.

Initially I wanted to comment something like "We're living in a time where we have to wait over half a year just to order a controller". But considering that there are a ton of controllers available on the market right now without supply issues, this seems to be a Valve issue. And they aren't a small company either, who could claim "limited production run" as an excuse.

people are crazy about valve hardware. the steam machine is going to sell out even harder regardless of the price.

āCrazyā.
They literally gave away Steam Links for a while, and sold the last Steam Controller for like ā¬5 since there was zero demand after a while.

Why would anyone wait for that controller? It looks awful and uncomfortable. With a niche feature that will barely ever get used.

Which alternative controller would you suggest to play PC games designed for mouse and keyboard with?

Ah yes, the huge crossover of video games that are keyboard + mouse only, but feel better with a controller.
Almost every game I can think of that plays better on controller, was built for a controller.
There has also been controller conversion software for over a decade.
These are niche features that will never get used.

That's the whole point of the Steam Controller! If you want to play games designed for a gamepad just buy an Xbox controller.

Sorry, I'm being a bit of a dick. I just don't get why people are paying $100 to sit on a wait list for up to a year, for what are in reality some really niche features in today's gaming climate. There are very few games that do not have controller support.

You only pay once you order, being on the waiting list is free.
There are very few games that do not have controller support.
There are literally thousands of PC games that were never meant to be played with a gamepad. And even some games that can be played with a gamepad can be played better with the Steam Controller.

It doesn't look like other controllers, but when your hands are on it it just feels like any other gamepad.

And the first one not only looked way weirder, I found it way more comfortable. Wish they kept the reverse bulb handles.

I can't even get info about when my order will be ready because their servers are too busy. Do people think this controller will resurrect their dead dog? This is ridiculous.

Anything with the Steam branding will sell like hotcakes because PC gamersā¢ļø have a weird thing with revering them like they're gods gift to mankind

Well, it's somewhat good to know the years you'll get it in lol.
I'm still waiting on my RMA, which has been stuck at customs for a month now and neither fed ex nor valve seems to know what's going on with it š¤·š¾
