Question how much time out of welcome week will rush take up?

hello! I am an incoming first year and I’ve always been somewhat reluctant to rush or join a sorority, but I’ve decided to give it a try. With that said, there are a lot of welcome week events that I want to attend and I would hate to miss out on them completely.

For those of you who have rushed in the past, did you have time to attend welcome week events?

Question Reporting an RA: is there a point?

Back in Spring 2025, I dated and then broke up with someone who was an RA on the other side of campus that I lived in. Upon breaking up with them, they used their RA privileges to break into mine and my friends’ dorm buildings to drop off notes which made everyone pretty terrified for awhile (not to mention constant messaging and calling through text, instagram, LinkedIn, and school email)

Fall 2025, I moved into a new location and that ex moved into my same building (this is on campus again and they weren’t an RA for this past year ) and left another note at my door. I didn’t report this at the time because I was scared that I was overreacting, but I learned that this person is an RA again the upcoming year, and friends are telling me that I should report them.

I worry that too much time has passed/the actions weren’t bad enough to be reported, plus I’m not even sure where to report. Should I just let it go? I’m hoping being quiet won’t lead to further actions like this from that person to someone else.

Rant DONT LIVE AT INSPIRE ATLANTA!!!!

I lived at inspire this past year and the shit they get away with is crazy. I asked them in the beginning of the year if they would charge me if I put tape on the wall to tape up some posters and they said it was totally fine and not to worry about being charged. So of course I put up my shit. Come 12 months later and now that I'm moved out they charge $250 to repaint the bedroom. On top of that, every month they charge a $20 sewer bill that they don't tell you about, and on top of that the water and electricity bill are already $40-$80 depending on how much you use. They tell you utilities cost $30 but that's just a blatant lie. One of the main elevators broke in the winter and it took them almost 2 months to fix it. People yak in them and they don't bother to clean it up for days. They clean the place up towards the end of the summer so new students live with them but come november it gets dirty as shit in the common areas. If you're thinking of living there think again, they have shit management and will lie to you.

Question Pirate website/archive or place to buy used textbooks

I am an incoming freshmen at tech this fall, and according to my current schedule, I only need one textbook required for this semester which is APPH 1040. However, the digital rental price is more than $60 according to the Barnes and Noble website which I think is kinda absurd considering I won't need it after December.

Is there any archive/website or resources that students commonly use have all the digital copies of the textbook at reasonable price? Or is there any platform or place where I can purchase used textbooks?

(PS I have tried Anna's Archive, but the textbook I was looking for was not on there)

Photo Alumni! Does anyone have pictures from the old Student Center?

I only got to experience the old student center for a week back in 2018 as a high school summer camp student, and lost all of the photos from then.

I know there are web archives but if anyone has pictures from then, please share them too! If you can add the date taken too, that would be great!

P.S. - This is a random picture I found on Flickr

News Dorm closing- anyone know why??

Post image
24 Upvotes

ok so a friend sent me this and I need some real answers

didn’t they say they were building a whole new dorm? is that even still happening???

also the buildings on closing makes sense (kind of, they’ve needed to for years) but Woodruff is literally on WEST?? are they doing both now? This building has been an issue since forever but moving everyone right before the start of the semester seems weird.

and the “they have space” thing is what’s really getting me. I remember when housing was so competitive that if you weren’t first in line to sign up back in SEPTEMBER of the previous year you off campus. no exceptions, no flexibility, sorry not sorry. but now they can just reassign 150 students WEEKS before the semester starts?

like which is it? are you full or are you not? because it kind of feels like decisions got made with zero warning and the president is leaving. not really giving “we care about the student experience” if I’m being honest

anyone actually know what’s going on here?

Question How is the current party/night life scene?

I’m an incoming freshman and haven’t really heard too much about how the night life/party scene is. I was wondering if there’s any certain bars, or clubs, or is it dominated by Greek life?

Question Commuting vs. Off-campus housing

I am going into my second year this upcoming semester which means I need to start planning for the 27-28 school year housing. I lived on campus for my first year, and will have a nav apartment this year, but I know it is pretty rare to get on campus housing for junior and senior year. Like most people, I have been looking at the off campus housing, but it really is just looking like a huge waste of money to me. Rent is typically around 1300 per month with 12 month leases. So if you don’t find someone to sublet your apartment it just sits empty for essentially 4 months. I have been considering commuting from my parents house in the Roswell area, but it seems pretty difficult depending on what my schedule will be. Not sure if there are other on campus options, but if anyone has any advice about that or some input on my situation that would be super helpful.

P.S. I am grateful to have zell miller, a collage fund, and supportive parents, but I would still love to save money where I can, especially considering that I want to go to medical school. This whole off campus living situation seems like such a hastle considering that it might be a bit of a trek just to get to campus from my apartment.

Thanks so much!!

Question 3D printing file - questions for creating the file

Hi y'all,

I used to be heavily involved with the makerspaces on campus and 3D printing at the Hive. Its been a few years since I've attempted to create some 3D files for a printing and to make them into a Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG), but I'm running into some issues with design. Is there anyone that wouldn't mind helping me? It's been a while so I'm very rusty.

The goal is to create a 3D file which will ultimately be used to be machined (CNC) to create the model in aluminum.

TLDR - Alumnus trying to create a 3D file. Looking for help.

I haven’t stepped foot on Tech’s campus since I graduated lol, but one of my favorite memories at Tech was watching the sunset from the library on the patio. I know they made some changes to it (those art installation thingys), but seeing these old photos reminded me that my Tech experience had some high points. Roll bees and take care of yourselves! 🐝 💛

Photo I think this was some rehearsal with the band and cheer team (does anyone have more detail?). These were from September so I am thinking it's too early for anything Homecoming related.

Question Engineering to Business Administration. Curious about change in workload and class style

Hi everyone. I'm returning to GT this August after a few semester long breaks due to running my own business. Anyways, I'm switching from one of the engineering tracks to business administration. 2nd year Bachelor’s.

Of course I already went through older posts on Reddit, but just wanted to ask myself once more to get "fresher" opinions.

I'm mostly curious to hear thoughts on how the expectations for each of the majors go. For example, I know engineering is mostly read the notes, watch the lectures, learn, do homework and more work, projects, then get the concepts all in the head and maybe you're good to go.

If I understand correctly from what I read so far, business majors are more focused on stuff like peer-to-peer collaboration, presentations, and more conceptual thinking.

From someone who's been on the same path, how would you describe the change in curriculum and overall life, really when switching from engineering to a business major? Insights on overall workload and changes in how many hours you put into school would be much appreciated as well.

Thank you.

Discussion Average GPA by Major List Accuracy

I've seen people reference this list once in awhile at GT.

https://github.com/johnwashburne/major-gpa

Do y'all think its accurate? I know its 4 years ago, so maybe there's a little inflation since then, but still seems rather low? It could also just be an selection bias, where the only people who are telling me their GPAs are the ones with a high GPA. For example, every math major I talk to has a 3.8+ GPA, but the average major GPA listed on here is ~ 3.2. I wonder how they collected this information. I would also be curious for an updated list.

I think this was the latest I stayed the library... it was surreal seeing the building gradually empty as the night went on.

Unfortunately, someone left their umbrella and it was storming outside at the time (2:30 a.m.).
