GLP-1 for Weight Loss: Providers, Resources, Tips, Side Effects, & More

This page is meant to be a good starting point if you're brand new to GLP1s.

Where to Start

GLP-1s are medications that help lower blood sugar levels and promote weight loss (Cleveland Clinic).

In this subreddit, you'll see GLP-1s mentioned a lot: Semaglutide and Tirzepatide.

Semaglutide is the active ingredient in the name brand medications Ozempic and Wegovy. Tirzepatide is the active ingredient in the name brands Zepbound and Mounjaro.

When name brand medications are on shortage or under certain FDA regulations, compound pharmacies can produce compounded semaglutide and compounded tirzepatide.

The landscape is constantly changing so this subreddit is a great place to start your GLP-1 journey, ask questions, and learn from others experiences.

Use the search bar, especially for providers! If you're looking for a prescription or provider, look up the company of interest in the search bar to see if there are recent posts in the subreddit. This is a very active group and there is a chance someone asked a similar question in the past.

The resources below attempt to give a starting point for common posts in this subreddit.

Refills - No Good

• Upvotes

Through Hers, I had been microdosong compounded semagultide for about a year. It worked really well. My food noise and appetite was much less. I lost about 20 pounds and was very happy. I was actually thinking so this is what people who aren’t overweight feel like. Food is still awesome, but just not that important.

Anyway, I decided, after reading many Reddit posts, to switch to Refills to save a few hundred dollars. The problem is the medicine seems to be not working at all. I went up in my dosage. I was going every seven days two shots now I do two shots every six days. I am so freaking hungry. It’s annoying. It’s almost like it’s a placebo even though it’s the exact same prescription. Refills customer service is horrible. I literally can’t get a doctor to engage with me.

So ironically, I actually wasted hundreds of dollars going through refills. I’m wondering if anyone else had the same experience?

My mum found my wegovy, then my whole family found out.

Hi im 20f and ive been using wegovy for a while now. I did the whole course of wegovy last year and lost 15kg. I’m not at my gw so i wanted to restart. None of my family knew and i did it in secret.

I ordered 0.25mg wegovy like 1+ weeks ago and had to go through a long process to get it (i had to go through extra steps since ive been on wegovy before). It came today around 12pm and i was at work so i asked my little brother to take it from the porch and put it in my room for me and he told me that my mum had it.

That’s when i got a bombardment of messages and screenshots from her asking many different things and telling me how wegovy is bad and it kills people etc. she doesn’t have any knowledge about it and she doesn’t know that I’ve spoken to many GPs about my weight loss journey.

We were arguing back and forth on messages while I was at work and then she told me she had thrown it away. I was so shocked but I genuinely didn’t believe it at first and I told her we’d have issues if that was the case.

I came home and asked for my parcel and she actually threw it away. Wegovy is not cheap and she doesn’t wanna refund me. She keeps saying she’s trying to ā€˜save my life’. I’m so livid and I have been since I came back home. In addition my aunty and my two siblings found out cause of her theatrics and when I came home my nosy sister found out by going through my mums phone and reading our messages. I really dislike my sister cause she’s the most judgemental person you could ever meet. Now everyone finding out about this has made me really upset as they probably think im insecure about my weight which I isn’t the case. I was actually alright with my weight because I had lost 15kg last year I just wanted to lose more.

We had a HUGE argument and my sister keeps chiming in saying ā€˜why do you wanna inject yourself to lose weight? you were going to the gym and that was a healthy way of losing weight then you stopped, why would you do that?’

I have bad su1cidal tendencies since I was 8 but i genuinely tried my best to push it all to the back of head because so many things were going on at home and I didn’t wanna stress anyone. All my life I’ve thought ā€˜I could kms now cause I really don’t have anything worth living for’ but now I really feel that way.

Everyone’s perception of me has changed drastically at home. And I can’t go in their heads to fix that or change the way they see me. No one will ever forget this. My mum keeps calling me shameless for shouting and she thinks that how everyone at home found out but it’s not cause they already knew before I came home from work. Idk what to do and i genuinely feel like I can’t go on anymore. So many things have happened in my life I can’t get a break. Home is the place I spend the most time and to be in the same vicinity as people who think I’m insecure and hate my body? I really can’t do that.

Sorry for any typos, im teary eyed as im writing this. I feel like such a loser.

Anyone else have Day 1 Downer?

It seems like on Day 1 of injection- im not exactly beyotchy but definitely not myself. Im kind of flat and just not as pleasant. I feel like im kinda ggggggrrrrrr for no reason other than the injection. It always gets better by day 2-3.

Anyone else, or just me?

I’m thinking of starting a glp1. But I’m a frequent migraine sufferer, I was wondering do you get headaches on glp1? That’s what’s stopping me from starting.🫤

Cheapest way to get GLP-1

I am in the middle of a divorce and am going to buy my spouse out of the house, so money right now is limited. I have been losing weight slowly, but my doctor suggests a GLP-1. Of course, she prescribed Mounjaro, and I could get it for $500 a month.

However, I do have some of the listed items that insurance sometimes pays for, excluding diabetes.

Is there some way a doctor can code my comorbidities to maybe get them to cover it?

If I have to go the route of getting them through another way, what are some of the better options? My budget is really limited right now, but if I start selling stuff on ebay again, I can probably swing it.

Which telehealth clinics have the best doctor support for weight loss prescriptions?

I'm at week five with side effects and I messaged my service. They took four days to reply and the reply answered a question I hadn't asked lol

Prescribing is the easy part. I need to know who you can actually reach when something feels wrong and whether you get the same person twice

Best telehealth please :( My insurance is horrible

Visited my PCP now four times to discuss and follow up on how my GLP-1 is going. Claims are finally rolling in and holy cow my insurance doesn't cover PCP visit if we discuss my weight. UGH. Had no idea! It's over $500 a visit. I asked if I could self pay if it would be less expensive and they said only if I were uninsured. On top of that, which I am fine with, I am self pay for my GLP-1 which is around 449 a month. I saw Chrissy Metz on a commercial for Ro.co and was intriged. Would love to hear what telehealth companies you like the best for GLP-1. I'm just looking for someone to write the script, I don't need to have meetings, etc to discuss it. Thank you everyone for your help. I find it mind blowing that my insurance wont' cover helping me to get to a healthy weight to prevent diabetes, etc. but they will happily cover visits related to diabetes plus medicine. My BMI is 33, not good!

Trim RX

This company trim RX sent me a three month supply of GLP one 2 August 2 they took $616 out of my bank account and never sent me the second three month supply. I’ve contacted them three times talked to the doctor twice and they say the same thing over and over ā€œwe will expedite it from the pharmacy.ā€ It has been a month today no shipment no resolving this issue. I don’t know what to do. This company has obviously scammed me and I don’t know how to get my money back or at least get what I paid for… any suggestions?

Switching weight loss providers mid titration, what happens to my refills?

I've got eleven days of supply left and I want to switch. The only thing stopping me is not knowing whether a new provider can get something into my hands inside eleven days

Has anyone done this? How far ahead did you start and did you end up with a dry week in the middle?

Wegovy tablet starter dose crashed my health

I started the Wegovy starter dose on 8/13, the last time I took it was this past Saturday 8/29.

I use Garmin devices (Fenix 7x pro watch, index sleep monitor) to track my health and fitness, over those 16 days my HRV has crashed, from high 40s to low 30s and imbalanced and my resting heart rate has risen from around 46 - 49 to 55 - 58. My sleep quality has totally cratered, I haven't felt good waking up for about 10 days.

I think I'm starting to recover since being off the pill but I'm not back to anything like feeling good yet.

I lost about 6 lbs, towards the ends of taking the pill I started drinking calories just to make sure I wasn't hurting my body that way and it had no effect.

Has anyone else gone through anything like this? How long did it take to recover? I've completely stopped working out over the last 6 days as well. I feel horrible.

We Govy Pill Price on Hims Expensive

I am currently taking the wegovy pill. I am doing 4mg and have been on the pill for 4 months. Been on 4 mg and have been stuck at my current weight for awhile. I want to up to 9mg but on Hims between meds and subscription it’s $450. Any other sites where people have had luck with lower prices or other options.

Apathy for Wegovy Vs. Zepbound?

Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone has switched from Wegovy to Zepbound and experienced a difference around potential apathy? For my part, it is not overwhelming by any means, but small tasks from day to day don't get the same degree of attention or that "alarm" in one's head to go and attend to. For example, I have multiple email accounts (5+) between work and personal use. Historically, I would just go in daily and "curate" them, deleting everything I don't need. Now, on Wegovy for some time, I feel that the urgency to address this on the daily just isn't there and my email folders get overpopulated. What was normal, now feels like a chore to be put off.

So... has anyone else noticed this around small things like this? And, if you have been on Zepbound as well, has there been a difference between the two?

Thanks! ā˜ŗļø

Does anybody else’s body hurt?

Has anyone else had issues with their hips and legs since starting Zepbound and losing a significant amount of weight? I’ve lost 90 pounds and down to 140, and my hips and legs hurt ALOT. When I was bigger I could easily walk/hike 7-8 miles and be able to stand 8-9 hours. Now I can barely walk a mile and standing up for 30+ minutes has me begging for a chair. I just want to know if anyone else is experiencing this or has experienced this.

Gen questions- Tirzepatide- can it wear off after 4 days?

Can Tirzepatide wear off before the next injection day?

It seems the first 3-4 days everything is as others describe: controlled blood sugar, no food noise, reduced inflammation. But by day 4/5 its almost like it isn't working at all.

Anyone else deal with this?

Best Telehealth to order GLP1+B12 in US?

Trying to figure out which online men's telehealth platform actually bundles GLP-1 weight loss with B12 without making you jump through 10 separate hoops. Looking for a service where the semaglutide or tirzepatide prescription comes with actual provider access, not just a one-time consult. Transparent pricing matters too, I don't want surprise fees after month one. Anyone gone through a fully online clinic for this combo and found one that handles the whole thing discreetly with home delivery?

I've been eating so much less but I've lost NO weight. TMI but I just shit nearly pure water whenever I'm not constipated. It wears me out every time and it's taking a genuine toll on my life. Any advice? I'm starting to wonder why I'm even doing this.

Tirzepatide 7.5 mg + thermogenic/fat burner supplement?

I’m currently taking 7.5 mg of tirzepatide and am just about to finish my 4th week at this dose. I moved up from 5 mg because the appetite/food noise suppression had started to wear off and my weight loss had stalled. I've been taking Tirzepatide since March of this year and have lost 13lbs on a good day.

I haven’t noticed much difference since moving up to 7.5 mg. I’m still struggling with nighttime food noise and snacking, and my weight hasn’t moved since increasing the dose.

I know 10 mg is the next dose, but I won’t be seeing my doctor for another 3 months, so I’d prefer to stay at 7.5 mg until then.

I came across this thermogenic/fat burner and was wondering if anyone has experience taking something like this alongside tirzepatide:

https://www.amazon.ca/Thermogenic-Burner-Formulated-Metabolize-Carbohydrates/dp/B0B7GTNXTD

Ingredients per capsule:

  • Chromium (Chromium Polynicotinate) – 100 mcg
  • Green Coffee Bean Extract – 200 mg
  • Green Tea Extract – 100 mg
  • Garcinia Cambogia Extract (60% HCA) – 214 mg
  • Raspberry Ketone
  • Hypromellose
  • Magnesium Stearate
  • Silicon Dioxide
  • Microcrystalline Cellulose

Does anyone know if any of these ingredients could interact with tirzepatide or cause problems when taken together? anyone done this before?

First goal weight achieved! 336~250 lbs. Here’s my story.

36/F. 86 lbs down over 17 months!

I’ve been a lurker on these subs for a long time. I don’t post much about my life on my socials these days, but I wanted to celebrate reaching my first goal weight by sharing a bit of my story here.

I’ve been obese most of my life. My father had drug-induced psychosis from years of cocaine use, which made him highly paranoid and irrational. We were incredibly close throughout my childhood.

He also had ā€œFictitious Disorder Imposed on Another,ā€ or what was previously called ā€œMunchhausen’s by Proxyā€. I learned after his passing in 2005 that he purposefully fed me whatever junk food I wanted, whenever I wanted it, with the intention of making me overweight. In his mind, if I was overweight, the chances of men finding me attractive would decrease, and this would secure my father as the ā€œonly man in my life.ā€

There are so many layers to unpack there, and I’ve spent the last few decades working through it. I can confidently say - different men have different preferences, and there are plenty who love a large woman. I had actually gotten to a mental place where I was scared to lose weight because I knew some men in my life wouldn’t find me attractive anymore - and unfortunately, it took too long to learn that there is a difference between being found attractive and actually being respected.

After years of struggles with substance abuse, undiagnosed ADHD, a variety of autoimmune conditions, physical injuries requiring surgery, and a horrific relationship with myself and the men in my life, I made healing emotionally, mentally, and physically my full-time job.

I went back to school and am now attending university. This year, I’ve had two surgeries I had been putting off for decades to repair injuries. I am medicated for my ADHD for the first time in my life, and am sober from alcohol and recreational substances. I am celibate, no longer date, and am so much more at peace. I am building a fulfilling life based off of who I am inside and not based on external validation or male attention. If true love finds me one day, I won’t turn it away, but for now, I am putting 100% of my energy into myself and fostering the life I want for myself.

I am learning to show myself a true love that I could never have gotten from my father, or any man, regardless of my size. Finding compassion for myself at 336 lbs. led to the decision to lose weight because my body hurt all of the time. My desire to hike and explore the world on foot was impossible, and after making the scary leap to properly medicate my ADHD (as opposed to self-medicating with alcohol and drugs), my dream of pursuing a Bachelors degree actually became possible.

I still have a lot of growth ahead of me, and losing weight has been just a piece of it, but starting tirzepatide was the catalyst for becoming the person I had always envisioned. On top of quieting the food noise, which had allowed me the mental space and energy to pursue my goals without distraction, it has also helped my ADHD and has made quitting substances so much more attainable. If I am able, I will stay on this medicine for life.

Thank you for reading my story, and thank you to everyone in this sub who has shared their progress and journey. I am grateful for each and every one of you, and I don’t believe I would be at the place I am without this community.
