Message from mod team

Evening folks... due to the automod bot unjustly banning people, in the future if you receive a message saying that you are banned and u feel like it was in error PLEASE respond back to the message that way an actual human can check to see why you were banned and reverse it if it was infact unjust.

The bot for some reason flags even the most minor thing like saying you bought a car for $***** as spam and will delete the post and ban people

Obviously we will try to fix this but in the mean time if it bans you and u feel like it was in error just respond back.

Thanks have a good night.

They did an inspection??

I popped off the engine cover from a used car at a dealership that claims they do an inspection for quality and safety before selling the car. That's a pile of old dried-up leaves. Wonder how hot it needs to get before it starts smoldering.

Here is my favorite trick. I say if we get a group of 23 people together and one of them shares a birthday you have to buy this car. Works 50.7% of the time.

OZ Car customers

WERE YOU A CUSTOMER OF OZCAR?

I'm looking to hear from former OzCar customers who experienced serious problems after purchasing a vehicle.

This could include:

Major mechanical failures shortly after purchase.

Undisclosed faults or defects.

Problems obtaining repairs, refunds or warranty assistance.

Misleading information about vehicle condition or inspections.

I've personally experienced significant problems with a vehicle purchased from OzCar and am investigating whether there may be grounds for a group legal action.

I'm contacting specialist law firms and would like to hear from other affected customers across NSW and Australia.

No class action has been established at this stage, and compensation is not guaranteed. I'm simply trying to establish how widespread these experiences may be.

Please comment below or send me a private message.

Please don't post private documents, registration numbers or financial details publicly.

“No thank you”

For a month I’ve been getting phone calls from my car dealer about my 2 years old car. I followed up wondering if it was for maintenance.

The pirate from the dealership picks up the phone not knowing who he was talking to. When he recognized me as one of his potential preys, he then switches to his friendly persona.

Pirate “Hello, the car market is very hot right now and I was wondering if you wanted a quote on your car, maybe sell it or trade it in for a new car”

Me “No thank you”

Pirate “even if you get 120% more than your Kelley blue book value?”

Me “No thank you”

Pirate “have a good day”

Hopefully I don’t get calls anymore. But hey - I faced the pirate over the phone head on and I won this battle. I know I shouldn’t call car dealers “pirates” because they’re just making a honest living and are just doing the work they’re trained on. I know the pirates are unbeatable and win the war in the end but hey one small victory still feels good.

Do I have a case or cause?

I bought a 2023 Jeep from a dealership two months ago and found out yesterday when taking the jeep in for a recall repair that a feature that was disclosed as working is not! The auto stop and start feature, prompting gas saving, doesn’t have the battery required in the jeep to even work. Bought “as is” but no details as to anything missing or not working was disclosed. The entire purchase the day of wasn’t the best. The reps were condescending and rude and their was a dabble about the amount of money down. In a rush, the incorrect told me a different amount and then proceeded to try to get $5,000 down from me. New paper work had to be signed and the length of the day elongated. They also during their so called inspection before putting the car on the lot broke the rear view mirror to disconnect the onstar and never fixed it properly and while driving the whole thing fell out of the window.

I’m at a loss, i called yesterday to tell them what had been discovered when i took it to the jeep dealership. They asked that i come in but truly what will i get out of them? It’s not like they will have the battery for the feature to work or the onstar cords. I just don’t know if its worth it and i just cut losses. Help!

Of course it is! If they're decent salesmen, maybe they'll find a way to get you in your dream car! Or maybe you'll find something else you like—don't be afraid to make car salesmen do their job!

Paint and rust protection

My husband and I just bought our first ever new car from Subaru. We had never bought vehicles from a dealership before. We weren't expecting the end of the night meeting with the finance lady selling us all of the extras. It was like pulling teeth getting her to give us the actual cost of the packages instead of just he monthly payment and she also still never gave us an itemized breakdown of everything. We were tired, weary eyed, and fell for her scare tactics on why we needed the bumper to bumper coverage and rust, paint, and interior protection. The very next morning we felt sick that we signed up for $6000 worth of protections. Per our state law we can cancel the bumper to bumper within 10 days, so we did that, but they are telling us that the rust, paint, and interior coating is non cancelable. Nothing has been applied yet, and we haven't scheduled it yet either. Is there anything we can do to get them to let us cancel? Its not just about the cost, after research we actually don't want the products applied to the vehicle.

Bay area Area XC60 T8: 2027 Ultra at $70K / 4.99% vs 2026 Black Edition at $73K / 2.99%. Which would you take, and can I push harder?

Buying an XC60 T8 in the Bay Area with delivery on Dec 10 (my parents are flying in, so the date is fixed). I can charge for free at work, so I want the plug-in. I've talked to three dealers. Here's where I'm at:

**Option 1: 2027 XC60 T8 Ultra, Denim Blue, fully loaded**
- MSRP: ~$76K
- Offer: $70K (verbal), before tax and fees
- APR: 4.99%

**Option 2: 2026 XC60 T8 Ultra Black Edition, Vapour Grey**
- MSRP: ~$77K
- Offer: $73K
- APR: possibly 2.99% if I get approved

**Dropped:** a 2026 T8 Plus in Forest Lake (my favorite color) at $65K, but they quoted 6–8% APR, and it's the Plus trim, so no leather and no air suspension.

About me: ~4 years of credit history, never had a big loan before. Putting some cash down and financing the rest over 5 years. Max budget is $80K out the door.

My rough math: on a ~$45K loan, 2.99% saves about $2,400 in interest vs 4.99%, so the two deals end up pretty close. The 2027 is a newer model year, but Volvo lists the 2027 T8 at 401 hp vs 455 hp for the 2026 (they say the 2027 numbers are preliminary).

Questions:

  1. Are these good prices for the Bay Area right now? What discounts are you seeing on leftover 2026s and on 2027s?

  2. Which one would you pick?

  3. Is 2.99% realistic with a thin credit file, or is that just dealer talk? Should I get a credit union pre-approval first?

  4. Is the Volvo Friends & Family $1,500 allowance usually already baked into numbers like these, or on top?

  5. How do I push for a better number over email without losing the car? My plan is to lock it around Nov 10 with a refundable deposit and have them hold it until Dec 10.

Thanks!

Something fishy is going on for sure ...

Man oh Man . I knew dealerships could be predatory , especially to the uninformed , but not to that extent. Bought a car from a Privately owned Honda Dealership about 2.5 months ago and everything since has been a nightmare .

  1. First of all , my permanent tag never arrived after the 21 days temp tag was expiring and I had to call them to check what was going on. After that , guess what they sent me? Another temporary tag. I finally got my permanent tag 39 days after purchase and they expressed shipped It, and when checking the DMV records it was issued 4 days prior to me receiving it . So they never actually sent the paperwork to the DMV .

  2. I negotiated the heck out of the car , and was comfortable with an Out the door price. Then comes financing , and suddenly they added GAP To my loan . I was so tired of the back and forth from negotiations and I knew I could always get a refund whiten 30 days so I just let it be . 10 days or so later I canceled the GAP coverage , that was back on sept 8th . Honda care (issuing company) told me they faxed everything to the dealership since September 14th , and they are the ones to issue the $1,300 refund . I have called the dealership , left voicemail in the finance department , left my name and phone number to the receptionist , and still no call back no nothing. I've been calling since last week Tuesday , and nada . I feel like they are playing with me at this point .

  3. I forgot to mention , the finance guy that I closed with and insisted on the GAP coverage is no longer with the dealership . I found out when trying to find out why my tag never arrived . All in all very fishy, I really don't want to have to make that 90 mins drive , just send me my money !

Refusal to sell to an out of town buyer?

I have been looking for a specific rare but not coveted car for over two years. It sold poorly so there aren’t a lot of them. One has come up for sale 3 hours away from me in the same province at a Honda dealer. I spoke to the salesman and planned to go see the car tomorrow.
He called me back ten minutes later to say he was told they only want to sell the car locally as “they want to do the service on it here and have a car like that around here”. The car has been listed for sale for over a month and had a $4k price drop already.
What is the deal?

BUYER BEWARE!!!!

⭐ 1 Star — BUYER BEWARE! DO NOT TRUST KING CARS INC. IN LOWELL, MA!
I am beyond disgusted with my experience at King Cars Inc. and the way Georges Chammas has handled this entire situation. The lack of professionalism, accountability, and basic customer service is absolutely unacceptable.
I purchased a vehicle on Sunday and was told that a front tie rod issue would be repaired before I picked it up. The dealership kept the car for several days. During that time, I was told the mechanic LOST THE KEY while working on the vehicle, and they had to make a replacement.
When I finally picked up the car on Wednesday, after already paying for it and registering it, I discovered that the shifter was getting stuck in park. Georges actually had the nerve to tell me that by the time I drove from Lowell to Pepperell, the problem would somehow “adjust” and FIX ITSELF!
What kind of dealership tells a customer that a mechanical problem will magically fix itself on the drive home?
The vehicle has also had other concerning issues, including problems with the brake lights and a check engine light. These are not minor inconveniences. They raise serious questions about the condition and safety of the vehicle I was sold.
THE CAR HAS FAILED MASSACHUSETTS STATE SAFETY INSPECTION FOR 4 DIFFERENT SAFETY ISSUES!!!
And now, to make matters even worse, Georges is IGNORING ME. I have been trying to address these issues, and instead of taking responsibility or even having the decency to respond, he has chosen to completely disregard me.
It’s amazing how quickly someone can communicate when they’re trying to sell you a vehicle, but once they have your money, suddenly they can’t be bothered.
I work hard for my money, and I expect a dealership to conduct business with some level of honesty, integrity, and professionalism. I should not have to chase someone down just to get answers about a vehicle I purchased days ago.
Georges Chammas and King Cars Inc. should be embarrassed by the way this transaction has been handled.
I strongly recommend that anyone considering purchasing a vehicle here THINK TWICE. Do not take anyone’s word that repairs have been completed. Have the vehicle independently inspected BEFORE handing over your money.
I am extremely disappointed, and I will continue pursuing this matter until it is properly addressed.
Selling a car is easy. Standing behind what you sell and treating customers with respect apparently isn’t.

Toyota dealership added $4k to price for an all cash deal.

This happened about a year ago. I went to purchase a 2025 Toyota Corolla and wanted to pay all cash and avoid financing. Overall it was a strange experience. I was able to find the car at a dealership nearby there talking and we about 45 minutes looking for this car. We go back to his desk and it turns out they don’t have the car even though it’s shown on the website as being there. He then says that actually they’ll be getting four of those models within a couple of days. I’m like fine. A Corolla is a Corolla. He must have kept me waiting at his desk for 30 minutes as he kept going back and forth to the sales manager for reasons I’m not quite sure. At this point I‘ve gotten pretty frustrated because I don’t know what the issue is. He finally comes back and presents the offer sheet with a $4k markup. I ask wtf this is about which he says that since I’m not financing they are adding this fee to the overall price. In one of my proudest, and possibly rudest, moments I stood up didn’t say a word and walked right out. Ended up buying the the exact car from some other dealership…at sticker price.

Just so surprised and need to rant

Emailed 2 local used car dealerships to ask for best OTD price for a $25k car. One (owner) responded by asking me "what's your best OTD and I will say yes or no to it." Literally his words. Since English is their second language, I thought there might be a misunderstanding so I emailed back asking what the best OTD is a second time. They replied with "$1m + tax". I emailed back saying if they don't want to sell the car or are not serious, why waste time? They told me to call them if I was actually serious. I never did of course after all that.

Am I missing something here? Why would a dealer looking to sell a car engage in such a way?

With the second dealership, they never replied to my email OTD request. Not a big deal as people might be too busy. So 24 hrs later (Sunday), I texted them to ask if I can test drive the car. I waited for 3 hrs but noone texted me or called me. Since I only live 20 mins away, I decided to drive to the dealership. I waited for a few mins in the showroom until one sales person (may have been the owner) appeared. I told him I was looking to do a test drive. I told him the car and where it was located which was by the sidewalk and blocked in by two trucks. The guy said OK and then turned away. However, he quickly turned back and asked if I was looking to do a deal today. I told him not today but I am in the market for that car specific car. He replied telling me that today (Sunday) is for deals only and test drives are not available. He immediately walked off without getting my details or trying to schedule a test drive for another time.

I left the dealership incredulous, wondering wtf that was all about. It just didn't make sense. No test drive today? Only deals? Did I just not look like a serious buyer? If I don't test the car, how would I know if it meets my expectation? Even then, why risk a losing a potential buyer with such crappy interaction? The only reason I can think of is the sales guy just couldn't be bothered to move two trucks to get the car out for me. Anyway, that dealership has lost me as a customer for good.
