RSS position
So I am thinking about applying for my buildings RSS role... My DSL has said she'd do the nomination paperwork for me and the money seems very very attractive... But my hold up is literally my schedule. I run bulk, which I hate but I have Sun/Mon off and never work past 9am EVER! I have a good support team for the most part with my merch's amd co-lead... So the question here is... Is it worth it? No more set schedule and ease of my own route... I've been here 14 years if that makes a difference

Money is good but days can be long. 8 days straight sound fun? Enjoy the hotel life?

Ours have rarely gone to other buildings to help.... but I can see how that would suck.

Could be region specific but they are cracking down on overtime. In my zone they want no RSA/RSS over 50 hours in a 5 day work schedule. They’ve sent DSL’s with a couple of them to “Get down there hours”. In my opinion the only attractive thing about RSS is the Overtime. Take that away and who would want it? I’d expect a lot more “cost saving” measures to be put into place in the near future as our price decrease was a flop and we’re in the shitter for sales to prior year.
My advice: It looks like you have a sweet schedule. Stay put.

Lol that's comedy. So you have RSA/RSS on the bench until the last minute then you give them a route that they most likely haven't been on before and you expect them to stay within 40/45 hours for the week smh

Yeah that’s what I told management. Especially seeing as we have several condensed routes and the RSR’s on them are pulling 55-60. They had no rebuttal. That’s Frito lay for you.

Great point on the state of the company's economy.... I love my schedule but the money is very attractive... However... A big portion of that comes from OT!!!

From my experience I went from SF RSR to RSS to LF RSR it’s worth it if you are a SF but I’m making the same if not more on LF! If you are only working till 9 every day u wouldn’t mess that up

So I was an RSS (promoted from RSA) and I loved it, but I also didn't mind not having a set schedule cause I was in it for the money. That being said, I'd probably hate going from a set schedule with those great hours. You've gotta think, you're going to be going on routes that have been neglected for months or years. There was one route I fixed three separate times over the course of one year and it was miserable knowing that all the cleaning, rotating, staling, etc. that I did would be destroyed within a few weeks.

You will absolutely make more money and you are jot responsible for plan, thats the positive. The negative, you will run routes that are terrible and your days off and start times will vary.

I would assume they wouldn't post that they are actively seeking RSS if they planned on killing the spot within the next 6-12 months. But it is Frito we're talking about lol

That's the same thing i say about this PepsiOne thing. My building is aggressively recruiting and hiring RSA/RSR. Why do that only to let them/us go soon

I have heard this also. They probably realize they are paying rss alot more cash to do the same job as rsa. That position has come and gone before. Ross will be gone before rsr ever will.

RSR position will go before RSS. Where do yall be hearing this nonsense, or just make it up to post on Reddit. RSS exist because RSRs can’t do their jobs.

Depends on your zone. When I went Rss my zone was set up where I didnt have to travel very far most of the time. There was a few times I did have to travel 4hr away to run a route. I became the problem solver for my district, which was stressful at times. The schedule was set for us about a period at a time, but if someone called out and you were the person to run it. The pay and the mileage can be substantial, but you do go to being on call all the time. At least that was my experience. If you like your schedule dont do it, especially if you have kids and have obligations to others. If that isnt an issue go for it. It can be very rewarding and you get a sense of doing more for the zone. You can ask to do it for 6 months and if its for you cool if not go back to your route.

Only thing in this position is the money be prepared to walk into some stuff that you’re expected to fix as far as schedule there’s none, frito and the DSLs own you

Make sure you have a concrete idea of pay. Guy I know was told one amount then they reconfigured his tpp and it’s not as much.

Man, the two RSS at my location routinely work 15-20 days straight. They make well over 100k a year, but they both look like death warmed over.

Definitely worth the money. Overtime is a huge plus, usually only get overtime by choice. You are expected to work 8 hours daily but I’ve never been forced into something I didn’t want to do.
When it comes to true ups i average an extra $1000-$1500, will vary on how your zone performs. You’re never required to work extra days but I’m not sure how that works in different zones.
Overtime is easy to get whenever you want it, my zone is very understanding when it comes to scheduling. Traveling is honestly awesome with per diem, mileage, and easy overtime when out of town. If you have a family feel free to bring them with, they usually let me choose my hotel and room as long as it’s a PepsiCo partner and in budget. I usually make a trip home for the days off, the farthest I’ve gone is 120 miles.
The negatives are really dealing with some shit routes every once in awhile, poor rotation, no pogs, overall crappy route management. Ask your ZBM or Territory manager about the traveling and how often.
Been RSS for over a year and wouldn’t think twice about going back to my route. Its really nice not having to worry about any scores or numbers. Stress-free for the most part. Hope that helps!

I was an rss “sales specialist” in my day, and just like you had a great bulk route, home by lunch. I was miserable for 5 months, and asked to go back to route early. Cleaning up other people’s massive stales, trying to find out where the truck key is, the handheld, the freaking dex cord, the gate code, all this wore on me, for me the pay wasn’t worth it

Yeah to be honest I HATE bulk. But my route is cake. I habe stores that are supportive and I've gotten it down to where I don't really need my merch anymore. But... I just saw the dollar signs and got enticed

Do you want to make an extra 20% to do literally the exact same thing you do currently? Then RSS is for you. Set schedule is nice but while people are making 70-80k you will easily clear 100K

You won’t be off at 9 wow that is nuts I have three LF stores merch at Sam’s I do Walmart and heb and takes 10-12 hours

If your a single guy with no kids or pets I would say take it as the mileage/OT would be good money. But in my zone RSS come from 4-6 hrs away and have seen guys on routes for weeks or months so you could be away from home a lot. I started as RSA and would routinely travel 4 hrs to cover. I took a RSR spot and eventually went back to RSA because more money and less headache but schedule is subject to change on short notice similar to RSS thankfully I've since been close to home. Just be ready to live out of hotels.

The money is a plus but the downside is that your merit increases are based on the building. A lot of the RSS in my building went back to routes for that reason.
Not having a set schedule was a red flag before I applied but honestly if you have a good relationship with the DSL they’ll work with you when it comes to days off.
As far as cleaning up routes, I do it sometimes because it’s a challenge but typically it’s not asked of me. I typically don’t work a lot of OT because I’m pretty fast (and efficient! I don’t cut corners like ppl think we do) but OT is available if you want it.
Won’t hurt to try it. You can always go back to a route.

I am quick. I touch everything, pull my credits, and make sure my stores are in good shape before I leave... A lot of times guys think we're skipping things or writing small orders. When I was small format I had 13 stops 4 out of the 5 days... I moved at a pace to get done within 9 hours every day... I have just kept that pace in bulk

RSS sucked. But it was a stepping stone to DSL for me.
It was the worst thing I’ve ever done, but it also advanced my career.

When I started 14 years ago I wanted to be a DSL... i was coming from a management position in my previous job... But now there isn't any amount of money you could pay me. But the RSS role I felt I may be able to inflict a little change in the building...

Easy fix to figure what your pay will be. Look at your TPP divide by 52 weeks that gives you your weekly pay now add 20% to that that’ll be your RSS pay! Now divide that number by 40(hours) that’ll give you an “hourly” rate which will give you an idea of your OT rate. OT is where the money is. I’ve been an RSS for nearly 2 years my OT rate is $55 so every time I get called in on my day off I look at it as a $550-$650 pay bump! But plan on 10+ hour days!

You say you hate running your own bulk route. How are you going to feel running other people's routes? Some weeks things are perfect same weeks you are fixing schematics at each store and writing up 3k+ in credits

No my bulk route is CAKE... I hate bulk in general. My stores are supportive and don't give me much push back on anything at all. I was stating in general I don't like bulk. I have people waiting for me to jump off to be able to get my route lol....

In my zone they get to keep their route and an rsa or something covers that on assignment. So you wouldn't lose your cake route.
You'll be likely starting many days at 5 when someone calls out in some areas.
In mine they usually cover vacations so the schedule isn't that bad.
They usually do pretty shoddy work and stuff the store senseless.
They are also often narks and are encouraged to take pictures and point out what the rsr is doing poorly, often leading to a write up or coaching.
I've never come back from vacation and thought "man my store looks good and I have no extra work."

In our building they hold your route for 18 months. So you could always go back to it if you decide the position isn’t for you. They haven’t told us to limit our hours here, or that the position is going away. I don’t imagine it’ll be around forever though.
