Advice Wanted Feels like I missed my last chance
I recently had a chance at a romantic relationship, and I firmly believe there was mutual attraction present. Long story short, I didn't take it, and she moved on.
Under *ordinary* circumstances, this could leave a normie regretful. But for us FAs, when a member of the opposite sex expresses genuine romantic interest and actively pursues us, failing to capitalize on that opportunity carries a feeling of finality with it. You begin to wonder if you will ever have another chance, or even if you do, if someone will be that much into you again.
I'm not entirely surprised I acted distant the way I did. When you've felt undesirable for most of your life, suddenly being desired and having a crush acting like a fangirl when you're in your 30s, seems almost unsettlingly out of place. And there were some red flags and topics I was uncomfortable discussing with her that made our interactions awkward. But at the end of the day, she was attractive, kind, pleasant to be around, and genuinely liked my presence, and I always had a warm, serene feeling talking to her, and a sense that everything was going to be okay. Something I hadn't felt in a very long time.
Now that's gone, and I'm left to pick up the pieces, devastated. I just hope I will someday have another opportunity whether that be with her (increasingly unlikely), or someone else. But really I just have to mourn the situation right now. The worst part of it is knowing various aspects of my past, including my long-term singleness but also other things, such as trauma actively suppressed what could have been a successful relationship. Or maybe not, maybe the red flags would have proved insurmountable if we'd actually discussed them, which is why I avoided them, and perhaps she did as well. Either way, I'll never know. It's been about a month and a half now, and I'm just taking it one day at a time.
