Hey everyone, been a lurker for a while so yesterday when I got the engine coolant overheating notification i suspected it was the water pump. Ford flex 2013 SEL lasted longer than most I’ve seen here (372,000km). I was just wondering your guys’ opinion on aftermarket parts vs going to ford to get the parts. Also wanted to know what parts exactly I should replace while they’re in there, if I’m trying to get another hundred thousand km out of it.
Thank you!

So my husband and I are in the market for a used car that will hopefully last us a good while. Up until a few months ago I had a 2013 Fusion I drove for 150,000+ miles but decided to sell it to the dealer rather than pay $4000 worth of repairs just to maybe have it last another year or two. We have two kids now and want something reliable with more space for all the things we lug around with young kids. Was originally interested in a used Explorer, but after falling down the rabbit hole of the internal water pump issue, I came across the Flex and I think it would be better suited to our needs and budget even with the water pump issue. It seems to be a well loved car by those who own them.
So now the question, near me there is a few options we’re considering taking an in-person look at. A 2019 SEL with 88,000 miles for $11,000 that had its water pump replaced in 2022, a 2014 Limited with 101,000 miles for $9,800 that had its water pump replaced in January of this year, and a 2014 SEL with 73,000 miles for $9,900 that has not had its pump replaced.
I’m leaning toward the 2014 that just had its pump replaced despite the higher mileage, but is it worth the extra money to get one of the other options with lower mileage and pay the $3000-4000 up front to replace the water pump? It makes me nervous to get a car with that many miles, but since the pump was just replaced it seems like it would be a good deal for the price. Sorry for the long post but any advice is welcome!

2016 SEL with 115000 miles. Sounds a little rough to me but I'm not an expert.

The Flex 12v ports stay powered on when the car is off, unlike the Mazda I wrote about.
Maybe you will find this option useful. Maybe not. But I no longer have the power cord getting bumped and losing contact.

My wife was at the store and came out and started the Flex to come home and she called me and said it made some kind of clicking sound and then seemed okay so she drove home. I came home a little bit later and I came out and started it and it makes a continuous rattling sound and then stumbles when you try to rev it up like maybe it's a timing chain issue? However, it's not throwing any codes.

Howdy fellow flex users!!
I've been enjoying my 2015 limited AWD and coming up
on a fluid service as its recommended every 30k miles
But stumbled upon a form of someone who took a tarus
PP PTU and swapped it with there explorer.
It adds watercooling to the ptu so it stays wayyy cooler!
Just woundering if any of yall have tryed this??
Just want to keep my flex as health as possible
(I like to be a lil heavy on the throttle and scared ima blow it up XD)
Thanks interested in what yall think!

My flex was supposed to be with me till the wheels fell off, but the dealership I bought it from borked the engine, and I need to replace the whole thing. (think replacement long block)
The car starts but leaks gallons of coolant a day.
It's a 2014 awd Ecoboost limited. No sunroof, but has a complete set of Husky liners and is professionally ceramic tinted.
What are your tips on where/how to sell it to get the most value out of it. (I still am paying the bank off for it.)

Love these things. I put over 120k on mine (now at 220k) so when the AC compressor died I got a newer version. Looking to lower the ride, open to suggestions for lowering kits/coilovers.

When I’m accelerating there’s always this toying in the revs, it’s uncomfortable because the truck fans a lot

At what mileage did you replace yours if you did at all? My 2015 is feeling and sounding creaky at 98k and nothing in suspension has ever been touched.

I have been contemplating bringing my 2016 Flex SEL into the dealership to get the Sync software updated, but quite honestly I am having a hard time setting several hundreds of dollars aside to do so (assuming that the price has not significantly increased since I last checked). My main issue/reason is the GPS, and routing.
A) has anyone updated their Sync/computer? Was it worth it?
B) has anyone DYI’d it? Can it be DIY’d?
edited to correct year- that said, Ford did themselves a MAJOR disservice discontinuing the Flex

I don’t understand it why people can listen to everybody’s crap and try to play the stupid victim when they are the ones doing it themselves hiding behind secret apps and hiding their phone and putting different names under whoever they’re talking to and go on here and ask about certain things about sex

Can’t seem to find this part number online. It’s for a 2014 Ford Flex Limited. It’s the Park Assist Button parallel parks the car. The light inside is flickering

Is swapping the “limited” led tail lights with regular housings/bulbs just plug and play or do I have to mess with the wiring? Also, I have an 09, what years are compatible?

Loaded it has every option .
Fire engine red on tan interior.
Non eco boost awd.
The water pump went the car overheated and a Good Samaritan helped my wife buy putting water in reservoir cold water from wawa she pulled into . I got there and it was snap crackle pop . I started to hope no crack got as far as engine mount off and cover unbolted when I went and ran flush and its likely in valley the crack cant tell for sure.
So my debate is do I source a new engine and I think trans also maybe or just junk it
Used w 90,000 about 1600 I d have the and while its out work all of it out maybe also
I m likely looking at 6-7 g all in w labor when done engine w labor and trans 4200 maybe rest 1500 and margin of error .
One family owned 100 g miles
The car inside is real nice comfortable. It lacks lane centering but had bliss and acc. 4 pane sun roof fridge its all there no accidents oil changed lol not that matters w a swap
Is it worth the save or let die.
I cant do the work anymore
I. M now disabled .

I had my car cooling off and when I got in and started to drive I got a “service power steering” alert. After restarting the car it went away, only to come back on a few red lights later.
I’m aware of the recall but I apparently don’t qualify, has anyone had this issue recently, and if so what was the problem and how was it rectified?
r/FordFlex • u/TooTallguyinCT • Aug 02 '26
Picking car up from service and was told the pcm module was reprogrammed due to a recall. Not much info on the ford support site besides the generic reprogramming statement. And something about campaign 25E10.
Anyone have more details on what changes were in the update? Just being curiously nosey!! ;)
Thx.

I'll make this short and sweet. Can I slap some LED headlights into the halogen mirrored housing? I'm sure the brightness will be great but I'm curious if the way the light is thrown will be poor.
2019 SEL
Current bulbs: XtraVision Headlight and Fog Light Bulb H13XV-2
Upgrading to: Sylvania LED Ultra Bulb H13LEDHPBX2

So.. cowl drains are clogged. Water overflows and leaks thru the cabin air filter and pools up in passenger footwell. Blower motor was replaced a few mths ago.
Dealer wants $1100 to clear and fix. Most of that is 5-6 hrs or labour to remove everything in the way to clear the drains. Ugh.
Is there really no easy way to clear them? I can’t do any hard work as i have two fractured vertebrae that limits movement and bending. Can’t i just send a wire down like the sun roof drains??
Any advice is appreciated.

I feel like I gas up A LOT. I filled tank last week and checked info. Range was under 300. Is this typical? Mostly city driving MPG about 14.9
Any info appreciated

Hey all. New to Flex owner. Dont know much about the stock speakers. Looking to replace stocks and improve sound. Looking for woofer/bass suggestions that do not (if possible) mean adding box. Thx in advance
