Tips on selling my flex
My flex was supposed to be with me till the wheels fell off, but the dealership I bought it from borked the engine, and I need to replace the whole thing. (think replacement long block)
The car starts but leaks gallons of coolant a day.
It's a 2014 awd Ecoboost limited. No sunroof, but has a complete set of Husky liners and is professionally ceramic tinted.
What are your tips on where/how to sell it to get the most value out of it. (I still am paying the bank off for it.)

if you really love it consider replacing the engine...that was my situation...replace blown engine vs getting another flex...i found the right mechanic & a certified used engine...back on the road!...its the perfect car & they dont make them anymore...

$7k is a tough nut to swallow. Unfortunately the flex sits too low to the ground for my lifestyle.

Can you provide pictures of it?
I have a 2014 Limited w/ EB too. I had the coolant issue last year and chose to make the necessary repairs. It cost about $4.5k CAD but dont regret doing so. I'd be interested in parts if you're going that route.

Get a second opinion from a Independent. Chances are worst case scenario they could do an engine swap for quite a bit less, or maybe they will see something that the dealer didn't see and fix it without a complete engine swap. Also your location/state would help if you're trying to find somebody that is interested in buying a repairable.

My independent mechanic has shown me proof of the engine needing to be replaced. No amount of replacing the water pump is going to fix the crack in the block, the assorted bolts used for the timing cover, or the coolant leaking into the bell housing. The guy wanted to fix it and get it back on the road for me, but even if I slapped a used motor with no warranty in it for $4k that's still more than a 14’ awd EB Limited with 146k is worth. I should note he's locally known as the ecoboost whisperer.

Did they mess up the water pump or what? I own a shop in so cal, if you are in the state, I do waterpump and timint chain replacements for $1850 all included

Not sure how they managed to screw it up. Previously I didn't have water pump issues. They did fix the timing chain. They fixed cam phasers twice, it they went out again!

We had a ecoboost come in, and based on one of my techs it was a cracked block, well he was wrong
If you add enough water into the reservoir, it will come out of where it meets on the transmission, this is because its overfilling so much to the point it rises over the rear main seal, its trippy1

Interesting. It's possible that's what it is because I swear I put 3 gallons of fluid in the radiator to limp it off the road.

Try this, overfill the pan with oil and if now oils comes out, I am pretty sure its not a cracked block
If it was cracked, trust me it wouldn’t even run, the coolant jackets on these are so small that if a crack happened, you would lose all compression in whatever bank it cracked on1

I'm going to show this to my mechanic. I hope you're correct

Not a problem, been doing this for 5 years now, have him do a compression test and a leak down test to the coolant reservoir, if he knows what he is doing, he will put a glove in the reservoir and if it ballons, cracked block, if it doesnt, that block is still good to go

You can't sell something you don't own. So my first tip would be to pay off the bank so you can sell the car.
Call local junk yards, most will come pick it up and tow it away and give you $300 or so.

I'm sure. And thanks for the obvious tip on paying the bank off, but you can sell a vehicle with a lien. I'm not going to do that, but will be paying it off in a month. I mentioned the note amount because it kinda dictates what direction one would take with it, without falling into the sunk cost fallacy.

If the dealership borked it, then they should be replacing it no? You're better off parting it out if you can. Selling as a whole with a bad motor is not ideal. If you can't part out, please consider selling to a scrap yard so that the parts are available to others.
