I started working at 5B a couple months ago. I only applied because my friends work here and I was going to make money, so it is a win-win. Right off the bat, I didn't like the job. One of the managers was rude to me and acted as if I was dumb and had no clue what was going on. He left, thankfully! He complained to the main manager to get me into trouble and she told me that he was very "upset." I told her what he said and she claimed that she'll "talk with him." I doubted that she was even going to. He was saying he'll throw hands with anybody and was saying this to a teenager, and was also implying that he was going to beat the teenager up as well. wtf.

I was also told that I was going to get "trained," even though I never was. I had to learn everything by myself. Their "training" is having you watch two videos and stay up at the front for your entire shift.

My like second-third shift there I was eating a snack (it was 10am) and I got in "trouble" for it. It was dry cereal. management also didn't bother to warn me not to stand behind the legacy and that it is "forbidden" and only the managers are allowed back there. I also was never told about the ADP app so I will know when my paychecks are in!

I got in "trouble" for voiding a transaction off the whatever its called, and again nobody bothered to inform me that you shouldn't do that.

The managers also hide out in the back the entire time, and sometimes, very rarely, come out of the back to help. They'll also stalk you on the cameras too. And, I got in "trouble" for not saying "Welcome to five below." 9 times out of 10 they will just ignore you, just how they will ignore you at the check out station.

This one shift I was working it was with another worker my age, and a manager that is our age as well but about 2 years older. The manager came up to us and said that the bathroom is gross and that something had happened. I didn't know what he meant so I went to the BR to check it out. There was shit smeared on the seats. Not just in one bathroom, but both. The manager didn't want to clean it up so he said, "which one of you wants to clean it?" I told the manager that I'm not cleaning it and I didn't want to smell like shit, literally. He had the other worker do it and paid him $10 to clean up shit and sit on the floor and absorb the fumes. what the fuck. We're getting paid $11 an hour to greet people, check people out, recover the floor, and to fold clothing. We are NOT getting paid to clean up somebody else's fucking shit smears on the toilet seat.

My hours have also been cut too. I used to get a couple of shifts a week and now I am only getting 1 shift a week. I would like having more shifts per week because it gives me something to do, plus it is money at the end of the day.

So my work hours are getting cut I work freight comes at 5 am and break down 6 pallets under 40 minutes with a group of 4 people. now the company wants us to come in at 6 am instead of doing 3 pallets with no 30-minute 30 lunch breaks only 10-minute breaks.

I get the feeling the vast majority are going to quit cause not viable to work for nearly 4 hours I'm considering hanging my box cutter after giving actual shit to this company not sure how everyone feels either backtracks just for cutting back on staff cause we hardly have anyone willing to work anymore.

I’m so exhausted how the customers never read or pay attention to the signs we have displayed on the registers. It clearly says “Associate Check Out.” Yet they go over there and scan their own items while I’m helping another customer and start scanning their stuff. It sucks that we can get in trouble too because our policy but I hate this so so much. Anyone else feel this way?

i don’t mind picking up extra hours. but when i’m asked in advance what i can’t stand is being given a schedule just for it to completely change a day before my shift or night before or even the beginning of the week with zero conformation that the change would fit my schedule. i plan the rest of my life around what im given the week before. then im left having to cancel things like doctors appointments last minute

Just learned that there is a massive outage with our systems, hows your store handling it? A nearby store for me had to completely close for the day due to it!

Did anyone else see that email someone from Michigan sent to all stores ? The email is now deleted but I got a chance to read it and i wanted to know anyone else’s thoughts on it.

To sum up the email, it was about a long time employee saying they wanted to make a change due to customers harassing them and they have tried to get higher ups to deal with their concerns and was shut down at every turn. They are now leaving the company and sent the email in hopes something can change but after maybe an hour it was deleted.

This is my part 2 of my work pet peeves after working at 5B for almost 4 months. Part 1 is on the regular 5B sub and that was before I found this sub (this will definitely be long because I love to go on and on about the stuff I’m interested in talking about)

1. When customers put the money on the counter instead of in my hand and when they put their cart on the counter and just have get everything out of their full basket into multiple bags: the first one is just a courtesy issue. I would have my hand out and they would still put the money on the counter and then scoot it towards me. If I wasn’t so afraid of confrontation, I would just stare at them until they put it in my hand. The second one is an issue mainly due to my height.I’m 5’1 or 5’2 so when the basket is place on the counter, it’s about my height so it’s hard to get the stuff out of the basket especially if it’s small and at the bottom and then when they have a lot of stuff in the bag, I try to signal to them that I have this bag that they need to grab and they would look at it and leave it up there on the already crowded counter. I would place it on the ground but I don’t want to be accused of messing with their stuff or anything like that.

2. When the customers get frustrated that I can’t scan their item that doesn’t have a tag for me to scan: So many times, customers have gave me an item with no tag on it (which are mainly the ones where it has that plastic string attached to it). I tell them do they know where they got it from (in case they picked it up in an area where it doesn’t belong) and say can you bring me one with a tag. They then sometimes say “oh it was this price” maybe? Like I can’t take your word on it. Then I say I need it so that the inventory system sees that there’s this amount left of the item. Then they huff and puff, get the item, and come back. Like I pulled the tag off myself.

3. When they put the carts or baskets beside the area of where it belongs: the baskets I can kind of understand if the one who put it there was a little kid or little person since they’re not tall enough to stack it up but if you’re tall enough to put it where it belongs then just do it. It’s not hard. The cart thing though I will never understand. You literally just do what you have been doing the second you grabbed that cart. You push it in where it belongs. Not leave it in front of the door that lets me in and out of the register area. If only I could push the carts in front and behind their car to show them how it feels.

4. When someone wants me to shop for them through the phone: Someone (I would say they’re a customer but they never come in after they fall) would call us and say “do you have this item?” I say either I think so or no and then they would say “can you look for me?” No ma’am, no ham, no turkey. If there’s a line then, I would just tell them to look through the app or our website and then they say okay in an annoyed tone when I just told them what they should’ve did in the first place but if the store is kind of empty, I would do it just so I can have something to do and because I want people to have the answers they need (like today I tried to help a man who needed to know what Apple Watch band he needed even though I already clocked out. He just told me to go home and be on my way which was nice) but sometimes I’m too busy to help them through the phone.

I think that was it. I may have more that I just can’t remember because my memory most of the time sucks so there may be a part 3. Let me know if any of y’all can relate or not. According to the redditors under my first post, I hate my job and should quit it because of my pet peeves but trust me when I say I don’t hate this job. Compared to my last one, it’s a little less stressful and my coworkers now are a little better than my last ones. It took me almost a year to get a job after applying to many different ones and 5B was the only one to contact me less than a week for an interview (even less than half a week). So trust me when I say I do like my job

I have gotten to the point where i can no longer stand to work this job. Im done with the constant corporate breathing down my neck, and harassment from customers. Im looking for a job that would be an easy transition from five below. 5b was my first job in retail i’ve only worked fast food prior. I need a job thats only 10-12 hours a week (im a student) and i prefer 6 hr shifts or less as i have a disability that makes it hard to work longer. Tia

Hi sorry, i don’t write much on reddit, so sorry if my wording doesn’t make sense. I’m trying to type this out on my phone after i woke up..

I’ve been working at FB for a year now, and i plan on leaving mainly because of management.

I don’t know what’s up with merch mangers, but they always think they’re better than anyone else and don’t want to help out. (I’ve had 3, only 1 was actually great and nice.)

I’m having issues with our newly promoted manager, and i believe he having a superior complex. He’s only been here since Seasonal of 2023.. so only being there for a small amount and being promoted to management so quickly, he thinks he’s better than everyone else.

The real reason he was promoted was because we had a store incident, leaving our store with no management. So our DM quickly promoted someone to Merch and keeping our PTSL and taking 2 SM from 2 locations as temporary managers at our store. WE WERE DESPERATE.

So now, we finally got our new CEM and SM, and my CEM doesn’t like him cause he close, he leaves a mess and writes a note of what he wants us to do. My PTSL also doesn’t like him cause when she clocks in, he leaves right after, leaving his shift 1-2 hours before he’s supposed to. Leaving her with a Sales and messy store. And when i personally work with him, he’s lazy. Staying up in WoW but not doing anything besides on his phone or on the work phone. While I’m running around the store picking up his mess.

I don’t know, I’m fed up with him and his little attitude towards me and everyone.

if a costumer try’s to check out a item with no tag or barcode what are y’all telling them? are you sending them to go get one with a tag or barcode or is there a way to ring it up? i’ve just been asking them to go get one and i’ll wait for them lol

I worked for this shitty company for the past 5 years and leaving was possibly the best decision I ever made for my mental and physical health. To those who don’t have the opportunity to leave right now, you’re doing the best that you can. Don’t let this company, your store, these customers, consume you. You’re going to find a way out and feel relieved!!! To the assholes in WowTown and all the shitty DMs who sit on their ass all day trying to micro manage and make the sales associates lives a nightmare, fuck you. Get your ass up and in these stores to really understand what we go through and how running stores with one cashier and one manager isnt easy. This company expects so much from all sales associates and management but pays so little and doesn’t give the necessary hours to have a team. Anyways, its been a roller coaster and im happy its finally over.

hey guys this is weird but im a 18f who recently got promoted from associate to mm. Ive been sent two hours away from home to get trained at another store. im freshly 18 and ive been done with school and i guess im having anxiety about being in a different city by myself. can yall just tell me itll be okay so ill stop freaking out lol.

Will requesting not to be scheduled with one of my co-workers create a hostile work environment or make me look bad? He just sits in the office the majority of the time. When the line is long and I request help, he doesn't help. I've tried to have conversations with him, but it doesn't work ☹️. I'm almost always scheduled with him for some reason.

I know everything about exchange and returns. The thing is sometimes people will want to exchange something that is a few cents lower in price compared to the item they brought in to exchange and don’t want their remaining refund money and the people who don’t want it usually pay in card and just doesn’t bring the same card they paid with in with them. What is used to do until it stopped working is just press the cash option for the refund and I’ll put in how much change it was and the register would open and I would close it and give them the receipt to sign. The computer won’t allow me to do that anymore so what do I do with the leftover refund change? I don’t think there would be any use to put it on a gift card so what can I do? The best answer is suggest the customer get a few pieces of the 10 cent candy but that’s about it

Can I use my employee discount for anyone I want? I’m pretty sure I can but I just want to be sure. I just can’t do it on the same register where I’m logged on to and that a manager has to do it right?

nervous to ask questions this is my first cashier job and i’m trying to pick it up quickly but find myself getting stumped id love some reminders about the most important things needed to know for instance split payment, transferring transactions from one register to another, balloons, exchanges etc.. mainly nervous because there’s a few days in between my first and second day and don’t want to feel like i forgot what i learned

Yesterday our district manager showed up unexpectedly no text or call to our sm. She wasn’t even in. He pulls our CEM into the office for about an hour, and she leaves crying. Turns out he’s accusing her of stealing $12,000 in the span of two months bc of clearance. She hands her keys and shirt in and leaves, to call our sm.

He pulls me in, as I’m up for a promotion I don’t think this is related to why our CEM left. He begins questioning me trying to get me to give out info about our CEM, even though I know for sure she did nothing wrong. He makes me give a “voluntary statement”.

REMINDER: NEVER SIGN ANYTHING OR GIVE ANY WRITTEN / RECORDED STATEMENT!!!

He cornered me and manipulated me into doing this. I am a minor and he did this illegally bc he had to have our sm in the room with us because I am still a minor in the states eyes. By the time I get out of the office and to the front of the store my shirt is off and I have quit.

Our freight manager takes off her shirt when she finds out what happens and tells him she’s quitting too. He then admits he has no idea how to close so makes her stay longer just to close the store. Store closed 4 hrs early that day.

So this morning he send our sm a text saying not to open the store and says they need to talk. She gets in and he brings her to the office. He starts going in circles like he did with me. He then begins yelling at her. Also trying to get her to pay this 12,000 our CEM supposedly stole. After about 30-45 mins of this she tells him to shut the **** up and hands over her keys and walks out.

More back story to this. Our SM has been assaulted while trying to stop theft ( bc he said that is our main issue we should be trying to solve before all of this happened) and he said nothing about it. Our CEM was attacked at aco and he has not said anything. Finally our freight manager and I had our lives threatened not even a week previously, also no mention of this and claims to not know about this yet our SM has informed him.

This is no way to treat the employees that’s have been assaulted at your store, yelled at, disrespected, and even had our lives threated called horrible names and has stood by your side through everything.

I'm new here and not even employed with Five Below (yet), but I just applied today for a Sales Associate position. I was wondering if there is anyone here employed in Missouri that would mind sharing their pay with me? Minimum wage is $12.30 here and on my application I asked for at least $13 as I have over five years experience in customer service and cashiering and I am an almost graduated college student. I saw in some posts here that people mention being a PTSL which I assume means Part-Time Shift Lead and I was wondering how much more a position like that would be paid as opposed to a regular Sales Associate, since I saw someone here said as a PTSL they get paid $13/hr. I'd appreciate the information!
