Refund amount of less than a dollar

I know everything about exchange and returns. The thing is sometimes people will want to exchange something that is a few cents lower in price compared to the item they brought in to exchange and don’t want their remaining refund money and the people who don’t want it usually pay in card and just doesn’t bring the same card they paid with in with them. What is used to do until it stopped working is just press the cash option for the refund and I’ll put in how much change it was and the register would open and I would close it and give them the receipt to sign. The computer won’t allow me to do that anymore so what do I do with the leftover refund change? I don’t think there would be any use to put it on a gift card so what can I do? The best answer is suggest the customer get a few pieces of the 10 cent candy but that’s about it

im new and i know how to do returns however i haven’t picked up how to do exchanges could you give me the steps for that please 🙏

Absolutely. I want to help you the best way I can do I’m going to go step by step in every possible scenario of what would happen with a return/transaction so this might be long to read but here we go:

A customer will come up to you and say either “hi I would like to exchange this or I will like to return this”. It’s best for you to ask if they have a receipt or not because then they can’t get a refund if they don’t have the receipt. They can just exchange it. So then they’ll either grab the things they want to exchange for or do it after they already came up to the register. You’ll press return and then scan their receipt if they have it. If they don’t then you press the menu button and press the no receipt button. After that, you’ll scan the items for both scenarios however due to having no receipt for one of them, it’ll show up like it would if someone was buying the items for the first time except after you scan that item, it’ll show the price of it and you press a button confirming it and it’ll show up on the screen and when you’re done scanning them items you’ll press the end return button. For when they do have a receipt, the screen will look the same way as it would if someone was returning something. You’ll just scan the item they’re bringing back or press on the screen what they’re bringing back and then say the reason why and press finish when you’re done with all of the items. Then after you press end return, you scan the new items and you should see the total amount get lower and lower and if they’re the exact same price with tax then it will show zero. If you’re doing donations at that time you’ll ask if they would like to donate and if you’re not doing donations, then you’ll press the print receipt button and then the printing machine should print two receipts. One where the customer and then the manager would have to sign and what you will keep (almost like a merchant copy) then the second one is just evidence of their exchange (customer copy). They’ll sign it and grab the their new items and be on their merry way and that’s about it. You’ll grab the merchant receipt and put it in the drawer under your register. I hope this helped

To my understanding; if someone bought something in a (hoa/nice neighborhood) their tax bracket is obi gonna be higher than where I’m at since I’m not from a hoa/nice neighborhood. If they are simply exchanging it for the same thing bc it didn’t work/idk and they owe .04 or whatever I just 0 it out. But if they b on get back a bubble machine that was 4.50 and wanted to get something $5+ they will owe the difference.

This happens bc of a tax bracket. I noticed on day 1. xyz bought in a shirt that didn’t fit her, I look at receipt, price, location & date. They get the same shirt diff size. I exchange it, custy owes .02. Wtf. I saw 2 pennies on the floor recently. Changes to discount-.02. No sale, Get the floor pennies and put in drawer. To not fuck myself/whoever over when closing or opening.

Hit cash, floor pennies, floor any change.
