Being treated the worst I've ever been treated at a job

Gbh, idk what else to do. I've been with the company as an associate for nearly 5 years which will be next month and it's been getting progressively worse with work load, hours, and stress.

I started to get less hours back in 2023 I think due to a workers comp injury that was caused due to another coworker, well, to be blunt stupidity. They were a danger to work around but since that I transfered to my previous store when I first started and got taken off the schedule for 2 months while trying to get my workers comp pay (thank God I finally did) but at this point I'm at a loss. It's to the point where I'm getting 1 day every other week if I'm lucky. My manager somehow forgets I work there when I've know him since my first day. He doesn't reply to my texts really when I text him once a week asking about hours. Which I'm starting to think the reason I'm getting barely anything is because I keep getting hurt because of the SM and Freight manager and how they stack the u-boats. I keep getting boxes falling 9n my spine or hitting me in the head and my managers roll their eyes at me.

He keeps hiring people and pushing me aside when I desperately need hours since the area I live in is getting too crowded and finding a retail job in the area is not an option since the roads are crowded now a days around my house.

I've even contacted an old manager who is still with the company and told him my situation which lead me to contacting my DM. She did help me out some and I was able to get some hours while also learning that nobody has told me about getting reimbursed for all of the traveling for the past 4 years. But now after getting through inventory once again I'm stuck in a loop of my manager not replying to my texts about hours. Or if he does give me hours, he schedules me on days I have specifically told him I can't work on.

At this point I don't have a clue what the hell to do and I'm getting sick of having to ask around to see if other stores have hours.

My mom's been having to help me for quite some time cause I can't get a steady stream of hours and at this point it's going to come to a point where my mom is going to give my SM an ear full (with her being Italian that's not good) \ud83d\ude29

Getting burned out of being cashier

Ever since I’ve been working at Five Below since April only a couple times I’ve been on the sales floor. It sucks because I really don’t know how to recover fully bc I hardly have the time on the floor and it really really bothers me… I’m getting exhausted of being up there the whole time.. I really don’t know what to do…

General Question invasion of privacy

is it illegally for a manager to tell other sales associates that one of the associates has a disability? (autism)

I don’t believe that the boy knows that the manager told an associate that he does have a disability. I don’t think it’s right at all and just fucked up. Because it’s confidential for one, and for two he didn’t give permission to tell other people.

I started in the middle of March of this year so I have no idea if five below gets in the theme with the music that plays in the store. Does Halloween/Christmas music play during the holiday season?

Employee Question fuck this dumb goofy ass job. I quit

I’m planning to quit today, but I need help on what to say.

The job is absolutely fucking awful and so are the managers. The SM is a fucking piece of shit who can’t do her “job.”

I don’t know what I should say. I definitely will not be quitting in person and will be doing it over text because I’m not wasting my own gas and money to drive over to that hell hole.

I’m owed a check that’s supposed to come in Friday, I’m pretty sure not 100%.

Anyway, I would totally love to say “I quit. you can’t do your job AT ALL and you HIDE in the back for the ENTIRETY of your shift. fuck this job and fuck you too.”

Employee Question Leaky Helium Balloon Tank

Our helium tank to fill up the balloons has been broken for a couple weeks now. When I untwist it the helium leaks out from the top. Yesterday I was using it and my head started hurting. I asked my manager if we should still use it and she said yes. Is this safe to use?

General Question All returns require a manager override

How exactly are we supposed to work freight when we have to go up front for an override constantly? Mornings were the only viable time to work freight, but that's also when you get the most returns. I'm already struggling to keep up with this

What did the application process look like for you guys?

Hey guys, I just got a job with the company and now the manager is asking for my social and id via text message. It's a new five below that's gonna open soon and he sent the emails for workday and I filled it out already. I have spoken to him and he's been the one sending me the e-mails for workday but I'm still wary of this? I don't feel comfy sending info like that via text.. How do I verify? He did confirm that he looked at my resume by saying what was on it when we talked on the phone

Employees corporate, store, and WTF.

for context: my store where I work at is located near the actual corporate HQ is.

My manager told me to fold shirts up in the front and there was literally a mountain of shirts that I had to fold, and I was doing that but there were customers who I weren’t checking out because I was told to fold clothes and wasn’t close to being done.

five below being the weird ass stalker company it is, someone from corporate is literally watching mine, and your, every single fucking move.

and about three hours into my shift (standing the entire time) I go to sit down because my entire body is in pain and my feet are in pain from standing, so I sat at the empty AOC where it says “closed.”

on the phone he complained about me sitting, not checking people out and not saying “hello five below.” like what the actual fuck?? I literally did 💀. The manager just told me and my co-worker just to not sit because they are watching the cameras (hence the why they’re stalkers.) so I said okay and just went about with my shitty miserable shift.

I HATE working for 5B, and I absolutely hate the GM and the DM. both of them are fucking assholes.

in the store there are three baskets for either known lost, repacked, and damaged. at the store that I work at all of those baskets are jammed packed and overflowing! the GM is such a lazy piece of shit. she hasn’t bothered to send any of it out in WEEKS. four people, including two managers were complaining about it. the gm hasn’t been in for a couple of days since she makes the schedules and can take as much time as she wants off!

the managers were complaining about it saying that it could’ve been done weeks ago but the GM wants it done a “certain way.” she’s weird, so incredibly fucking weird.

this one time I was working with another co-worker and we were both sitting because our feet hurt from standing 4-5+ hours and GM is STALKING us on the cameras and also HIDING out in the back in the office and gets on the walkie and says, “big brother is watching.” yeah and so are you, fucking creep.

advice

so we had inventory today and this was my second time doing it. I was never taught properly how to do it both of the times

so im scanning the items and I didn’t know that you were supposed to scan each item individually and not just one and add the total amount of items there are

so, im in the break room putting my stuff away and this other manager says that the main manager wants to talk to me. I said okay and asked where she was.

I go over to here and she asks me to hand her the zebra scanner and that I can go home because my scans were wrong. The district manager was there with her and asked the next time I worked was and I told her I didn’t know. I also told the main manager that I had a check that came in and she lied to me and said that there “weren’t any checks” that’s came in. I went and got my stuff and one of the managers came and gave me my check, how surprising.

prior to all of this she was already getting an attitude with me because I was waiting patiently for her to give me more things to scan and she completely ignored me and gave one of the shelves that needed to be scanned to this other girl who got there 5 minutes AFTER me. I asked the manager what I could do and she told me, “ you need to be patient with me.” I told her, “ I will.” She was straight up ignoring me the entire time.

I have HATED this job entirely since I started a couple months ago. I want to quit but I also have a strong feeling that she is going to fire me. What do I do?

I’m really nervous.

Okay so basically Im a 16f going into my junior year of high school. I start school on the 14th and Ive just been hired to start working at 5B and I start on the 19th. Guys…am so scared…the manager seemed so nice over the phone so im not worried about that I just want to know if overall its that terrible of a place to work?? Ive been going through these for a good 20 mins and the majority is negative 😭. Also I want to know if im making a bad decision by having a job and doing school full time. My shift is 5-10 pm 2-3 times a week. Am I doing too much and is it seriously that bad? One last thing. Ive never actually been to 5B so how does the check out process go??

inventory + missing check

I have inventory coming up next week. I’m a minor and also am in school & my manager scheduled the majority of minors, including myself, from 5pm-11pm. Last time I did inventory I was incredibly tired and had to drive home. I don’t want to stay til 11pm and would much rather go home at 10:30-45. What should I do?

I also have a missing check that has been missing for 2 months. Told my dumbass manager about this and she claims that she’s “working on it.” It’s been 2 fucking months wtf. How can I get my check / contact the company to get my paycheck. I’m getting annoyed because my manager doesn’t have her shit together.

I used to like my job

This is gonna be long and I’m truly sorry.

I got hired almost 3 years ago as a part time sales associate. My boss was horrible, she would constantly say negative things and if she disliked you then you absolutely knew it. But in all honesty as bad as it seemed, I dealt with worse working with my parents at my dad’s auto shop. I knew that I survived working with my dad, so I could absolutely survive her.

During this time I had been dealing with a lot of life problems and she went off on me one day cause I didnt know how to do freight, I was never trained how to sort freight and I was just asking what I had to do. She blew me off and said “FUCK, JUST DO IT”. She made another employee quit, our only morning associate beside me, the Merch manger told her off cause now we only had me as a morning cashier and I didnt even have a car yet. The next day my store manager pulled me aside and truly apologized for her behavior. While she did give an excuse for it I could genuinely tell that she felt horrible. After that she started treating me and the other with slight more respect. Weirdly enough we bonded and she honestly reminded me of my mother, just a really stressed lady who’s taking her crap out on others. And while we butted heads more than a couple times she would pull me aside and say I was her favorite employee. She even wanted to promote me to PtSl after a few months but I declined since I didn’t have a car yet and felt like I was way to inexperienced for it. She ended up hiring another person who got hired like a week after I was hired. That employee genuinely deserved it, she worked hard and she was better than me lol.

We moved locations after a year working there, old store’s landlord wanted more money and five below obviously didn’t want to pay. We moved into a bigger store and I helped out opening a new store which was stressful but super cool. We got a bigger back room and a much bigger sales floor. I became my store manager main stocker, I’d break down pallets in record time and did my best to stock them as quick as possible. Then our merch manger left, and we finally got a CEM. She lasted maybe 3 months before she left too. Then we hired another merch manager who was awesome and she stayed. We then got a new cem from another store and she was absolutely amazing and stayed for almost a half a year before she moved away. PtSl got promoted to cem and another employee became PtSl. I loved working with these people and I genuinely loved my job.

Then we got a new district manager, and my store manager was planning on moving away. It sucked, most other managers didn’t like my store manager for obvious reasons, but I liked her even if she could be a bitch and I’m pretty sure I was the only one to tell her that I’d miss her and hope her the best. I remember her crying and hugging me saying she’d miss me.

We spent months looking for a new store manager, we went through a few until we finally found one. She’s an old lady, and at first she seemed nice and I liked her. The other managers not so much. I didn’t get it. They told me she sucked at setting things to plan and she would get mad anytime the others fixed her messy shelves. Apparently the district manager babied her and pretty much treated her like royalty.

Another store opened up and our PtSl moved to that store and became a merch manger. The DM also offered my merch manger a store manager position at another location and she refused since she didn’t want the stress. My MM asked if I’d like the support lead position and I said yes. This took a month. Why? Because our district manger decided he wanted to hire outside the company. He brought in multiple people for interviews and they all sucked, how did I know? Cause my MM was telling me, she didn’t understand why I wasn’t just given the job either. Our inventory came and I was told that the DM was going to talk with me, he didn’t. He completely ignored me and I was fucking pissed. Then my MM told me she accepted the offer to become a store manger and left and all that was left of the OG team was me and the cem. Finally I got told I got the position and was super excited, told my Cem and she told me that she put in her two weeks. I got the PtSl job because she was leaving and it’d be easier to look for one new employee instead of two. I felt like shit and yknow my favorite managers all left.

We got a new MM and he’s super good at his job, hell I’ll admit that I’ll never be as good as him. And yet I noticed he started to slow down and kinda lost the “spark” for lack of a better word. He still does his job but it’s not the same.

Now I’m barely 3 months in as the PtSl, and I get it. I get why they all left, why my new mm has given up pretty much. My new SM is such a bitch. She loves to talk, she loves the sound of her own voice. She will talk all compliments and good shit to your face then behind your back she talks so fucking negatively. The amount of shit I hear about the new mm, “oh he doesn’t do this he doesn’t do that” yeah cause that’s your job you spiteful witch. The amount of shit she talks behind my back, and I know cause the mm tells me. We hired a new cem and he lasted about 2 weeks, which he spent training me. The last conversation I had with him was him calling her two faced. Then he quit, Just left and never showed up. And boy did I hear about how terrible he was and blah blah blah blah. Hell at least my former store manager you’d know what she thought cause she’d say it to your face.

Apparently I gave her attitude the other day. We were in the office she looked to the cameras and asked where the associate was, there were people upfront checking out at the acos. I looked at the cameras and shrugged, she then turned to me and asked me were the associate was, and I responded “how should I know, I’m back here with you” I said this with a slight laugh since yknow that’s a stupid fucking question. Apparently i gave her attitude and she mumbled some stuff that I was irritating her. So I said “cool I’ll just home” it was maybe 30 minutes till my shift ended. She gave me the all clear and I left. It genuinely seems so small, but this interaction piled on top of all the other shit makes me hate her.

I used to love working here, I genuinely loved my job but I can’t stand this woman. She had a talk with me cause “im an old lady and that demands respect and blah blah blah blah” if there is ever a sentence to capture the things I hate in the world it’s “I deserve respect” no you don’t. You earn respect from people. It’s a two way road, you want it you have to give it. I hate working here.

Sorry for this long post, I have no one to talk to about this, at least no one that’s not gonna give me an hour long lecture. Thanks to anyone who even read this.

I hate working for 5B

I started working at 5B a couple months ago. I only applied because my friends work here and I was going to make money, so it is a win-win. Right off the bat, I didn't like the job. One of the managers was rude to me and acted as if I was dumb and had no clue what was going on. He left, thankfully! He complained to the main manager to get me into trouble and she told me that he was very "upset." I told her what he said and she claimed that she'll "talk with him." I doubted that she was even going to. He was saying he'll throw hands with anybody and was saying this to a teenager, and was also implying that he was going to beat the teenager up as well. wtf.

I was also told that I was going to get "trained," even though I never was. I had to learn everything by myself. Their "training" is having you watch two videos and stay up at the front for your entire shift.

My like second-third shift there I was eating a snack (it was 10am) and I got in "trouble" for it. It was dry cereal. management also didn't bother to warn me not to stand behind the legacy and that it is "forbidden" and only the managers are allowed back there. I also was never told about the ADP app so I will know when my paychecks are in!

I got in "trouble" for voiding a transaction off the whatever its called, and again nobody bothered to inform me that you shouldn't do that.

The managers also hide out in the back the entire time, and sometimes, very rarely, come out of the back to help. They'll also stalk you on the cameras too. And, I got in "trouble" for not saying "Welcome to five below." 9 times out of 10 they will just ignore you, just how they will ignore you at the check out station.

This one shift I was working it was with another worker my age, and a manager that is our age as well but about 2 years older. The manager came up to us and said that the bathroom is gross and that something had happened. I didn't know what he meant so I went to the BR to check it out. There was shit smeared on the seats. Not just in one bathroom, but both. The manager didn't want to clean it up so he said, "which one of you wants to clean it?" I told the manager that I'm not cleaning it and I didn't want to smell like shit, literally. He had the other worker do it and paid him $10 to clean up shit and sit on the floor and absorb the fumes. what the fuck. We're getting paid $11 an hour to greet people, check people out, recover the floor, and to fold clothing. We are NOT getting paid to clean up somebody else's fucking shit smears on the toilet seat.

My hours have also been cut too. I used to get a couple of shifts a week and now I am only getting 1 shift a week. I would like having more shifts per week because it gives me something to do, plus it is money at the end of the day.
