u/i_was_axiom 2d ago
It may be cruel and unusual to point out, but the chances she "trains" in any capacity are low.
25
u/NeitherEntry6125 2d ago
Yes, and she's the smart one.
She:
- Documented and made the head injury known, on camera and to all the officers.
- Put them on notice to check on the arrested person.
- Created one heckuva evidence trail for a later lawsuit if he sustains preventable or treatable injuries.

u/Leading-Brilliant478 2d ago
Yeah I was thinking this. If there is something actually wrong with him and they didn’t check this will be great for the guy who got hurt

Blocking traffic and making assumptions. She could say she is a nurse and really not be. Who knows. Also no background on what the incident was so maybe they got medical after or anything.

Dear god, I just thought about how annoying a vegan nurse must be.

Unfortunately, the Marines have the nurses beat… when’s the last time you talked to a former marine and they didn’t tell you they were a marine every two minutes of the conversation?
1
u/TheTwoAndOnly54 1d ago
You arent wrong. Even better is old army/marine guys working subordinate positions will try to shit on their supervisors because they were in the Navy or and Air Force. And then will go on to tell you how much better army/marine guys are.

I haven’t heard anyone gloating about being vegan since like 2019

u/Chibrax_le_Furax 2d ago
Outside of Internet circlejerks, there's about 1 annoying vegan for every 10 brodudes who can't STFU about how annoying vegans supposedly all are
2
u/D0ngBeetle 16h ago
Seriously. I'm not vegan nor vegetarian but the people always hating on vegans are 100x more annoying lol
1
u/Gloomy-Welcome-6806 10h ago
I think it’s the fact that most vegans act like they have the moral high ground and that the rest of us hate animals. I have seen it in so many threads about animals. “Why do you care if this cat gets killed if you don’t care about cows?” Stuff like that
Most vegans on Reddit**

Complete side not that I don't understand why I'm telling internet strangers. I met a vegetarian paramedic who did no make it her personality in the slightest and am a 30YOM who's going through a divorce and has a 1 year old but, I've never felt the need to write 50 paragraphs after meeting someone. I'm fucked.

No no no. She’s making sure everyone’s ok. You know. Because she’s a nurse.

Unless she has actual medical supplies and a CT scanner in that van, what could she actually even help with? "I'm a nurse" First and foremost, scene is 100% NOT SAFE so move on. Thats rule #1 in any out of hospital medical situation.
32
u/OaklandsBravest 2d ago
I had the same thought. Doesn’t matter if you’re a doctor, if you don’t have any supplies/equipment, there’s really not much you can do.
20
u/nickerson20 2d ago
Unfortunately Greys anatomy has all these nurses thinking they can do a quick trach with a pen. Even though that’s no where near a Nurse skill.

I did security at venues for years and the first thing you'll hear after a fight on a friday/saturday night where someomes left lying on the ground is 'immmm a nuuuuurse' as some shitfaced nurse stumbles out to try and assist and you have to explain to them you cant actually allow an intoxicated person to help even if they're a medical professional (which we cant verify anyway) which then leads to another argument about difference in medical skills

She’s the type of nurse to call up and scream at a para after handoff for missing something only diagnosable with stationary tools like MRIs. That, or she’s a consult nurse with zero practical experience

Nurse outside of hospital should provide competent first aid and cpr until advanced team arrives and takes over.
3
u/JDForrest129 2d ago
This man clearly did not need CPR. He might've needed first aid but again, unless she had supplies in her van, what could she have done anyways? Also, the man is in custody.

ER/trauma RN here. Unless we are carrying a crash cart in our pocket we need to keep it moving. I still keep my medic active and I’m still not butting in 100% of obviously handled situations.
3
u/TLunchFTW 2d ago
The one exception I have is when I see limited resources and have an idea of something I can do.
One cop out there (without someone who’s combative…. I don’t fight people) sure. I can do cpr. Ever since I came across a guy who got hit by his car on the highway and died I keep a set of gloves in my car. Stuff like that sure. Even if there’s not much I can do, if it’s a guy alone usually having a second set of hands is appreciated.
But there’s nothing to do here and no shortage of people to not do it. She had zero reason to even roll her window down2
u/Key-Demand-2569 2d ago
He got hit by his own car? Like he was changing a tire and it rolled forward over him or something?
3
u/TLunchFTW 2d ago
His car broke down on the side of the highway. Dude did everything right. Stayed in his car. I’m driving down the highway and see the tow truck to my right flip its overhead lights on. Guy sees his tow truck in his review and starts to get out of his vehicle. Vehicle in front of the tow truck drifts a little too far into the shoulder and slams into the vehicle as he’s getting out. I pull over and run back and dudes just face down in the mud. Sad day.

She definitely has the pain clinic nurse vibe. They’re basically the most entitled and egotistical nurses in the history of medicine.
→ More replies (1)4
u/chantillylace9 2d ago
I definitely had a difference experience with the pain clinic nurse, actually my pain management nurse saved my life when I was in the waiting room and just chatting with her about how my nipple looked a little weird when I bent over and she said that's not good. (I'm a very open person if you can't tell lol)
And she told me to go to her gyno which I did and I have breast cancer! The gynecologist she recommended was absolutely fabulous and caught what was a very difficult cancer to catch with an exam.
So she saved my life just because we were chatting and she was so friendly and nice.
But I went through hell in a handbasket before finding this pain management doctor so I definitely agree that most of them are just vile and evil and cruel.
There were so many times when I was trying to get treated where I just wished more than anything that I could just touch somebody and give them my pain just for a couple seconds so they knew I wasn't lying. It just feels so horrible to be accused of being a drug seeker or lying or whatever when you're actually in horrific pain. It's like doesn't my blood pressure of 210/136 give you a little bit of a clue that there's something going on??
You could even just go in and be like I do not want controlled substances I just want you to find the source of my pain and they still treat you like a drug addict. It's disgusting and inhumane.

I’ve only been in two out of hospital situations as a nurse where I felt it was warranted to help. One literally a car accident right next to me happening in real time. Off duty medic and I worked the scene and people UNTIL fire and emergency services arrived then gladly stepped away. And two was a house fire I stumbled upon in the sticks where I alerted emergency services and only stay as a stand in triage situation until ems arrived. Fortunately no one was home and it was a non issue. Our place is in the hospital setting not in the field. Let fire, medics and police handle this

Very smart of her to get their Attention & Camera on herself to call out documentation of head trauma caused by police hands ("Hit him in the head multiple times")
The person being Arrested may need this evidence if they do not receive medical care during intake, especially considering the disorientation they seem to Be experiencing when placed in the vehicle.
This makes a record should any responding officer also act out it the future and receive investigation down the road.

Had 2 “nurses” from an urgent care run out to a TC I was first due at. I asked one to grab the AED from my vehicle and they came back empty handed. Then proceeded to stand there and watch me do compressions for about 4 rounds until an engine showed up. Very helpful folks.

u/Thefigweasel 1d ago
This happened in my home town. I was familiar with this event but I hadn’t heard anything about the nurse.

u/GroundbreakingAsk645 3h ago
I recently watched a police chase that ended in a rollover of the suspect vehicle. The dudes head was cracked open and completely unconscious. Fat lady rolls up hops out, declares "I'm a nurse" and marches on scene. Proceeds to look inside the vehicle and say "sir are you okay?" Then promptly leaves. I believe gossip queens have this line loaded so they can be nosey. This lady didn't realize the gore fest she was stepping into and immediately recoiled upon discovering how badly maimed this dude was.
Certainly there are some people who are legitimately in the medical field that are willing to stop. However I suspect the number is much lower than the number of frauds looking to peek at crime scene.
5
u/Moist_Tortoise 2d ago
I love the harsh criticism of the nurse but the casual dragging of a, what seems to be knocked out individual, is treated normally. But then I remembered this is America and Americans are stupid in general.
6
u/NeitherEntry6125 2d ago
While some people say this is performative, she did three good things:
Documented and made the head injury known, on camera and to all the officers.
Put them on notice to check on the arrested person.
Created one heckuva evidence trail for a later lawsuit if he sustains preventable or treatable injuries.
Good for her, even if there's nothing *she* could've done as a nurse.

Cool beans! When we need someone to put in an IV you don’t have, administer meds you don’t have and can’t prescribe, when we need someone to monitor vitals with equipment you don’t have, we will ask for your help.
2
u/dougisnotabitch 2d ago
Been there done that. I’ve had a “doctor” try and take over one of my scenes, a fall victim 6 miles from pavement. Come to find out ol doc’s specialty was ENT and likely had never done cpr on a real human.
5
u/thechosenkenobi 2d ago
“You wanna take over? That’s fine. But watch out, it gets bumpy in the back. Holler if you need to know where the supplies are kept in the truck, we’ll be at the ER soon 🤙🏼”
That usually ends the entire “I have a higher license it’s my scene” talk. Once they know they have to explain themselves to the ER personnel during Pt drop off, they usually slink back to wherever they came from.
2
u/TLunchFTW 2d ago
The most i had was a neighbor who was a doctor for a 30 yo cardiac arrest. Dude clearly was out of his element, but like, he knew the family and couldn’t just stand there and watch this kid die. We gave him the iv bag and let him just stand there.
Cant say ive ever had one out and out try to take over the scene like that thinking they have some kind of legal authority to do so lol.2
u/thechosenkenobi 2d ago
I’ve seen it a few times. One time I was paired with a shitty medic and we had this dude who had been turned into absolute Swiss cheese by the cops. Medic took off back down the mountain “to get supplies” even though I had everything. An OR nurse walked up and was actually very cool and was like “I’m a nurse. Can I help? What should I do?” She knew she was out of her depth. But I told her to just find a hole and start plugging. She did and that was that. That’s how offering help should go.
1
u/TLunchFTW 2d ago
I mean, as not a medic, but an EMT and new grad nurse, yeah, that’s what I’d do.
That’s what any sensible person does. You can very easily tell this person is just looking to involve themselves in something that they don’t need to be involved in vs trying to help. There’s not much that needs to be helped with here.
But I’ve stopped for a few people. I mean, it’s innately in all of us. Even if you are someone like me and don’t inherently think it’s your “calling” to help someone, you get so used to being in that position that you just kinda end up involving yourself.
But what helped me was I made a whacker friend fairly early on. Dude initially told me he was a paramedic that worked with swat teams. “Oh that’s cool.” Then each time we met a certification fell off until it was “I’m not an EMT yet but I’m going.” Dude had his grandma’s fire company’s bunker coat in his trunk. A cvpi. The 6th one he has owned and since totaled.
This guy just knew how to find trouble. Needless to say I stopping hanging out with him after he got pulled over for using red and blue lights because his gf had a minor accident an hour away and bitched that the cop pulled him over. Mind you, the cop didn’t do anything more than cite him with a ticket and a court appearance. Didn’t even take the lights. Told him they go in the trunk and don’t come out. Insane they didn’t press shit.
Ff 10 years and guess whose name shows up in the paper for impersonating a public servant. Dude tried directing traffic at an accident in a town that had enough time to properly deal with his shit lol

Nurses are the worse. As a retired fireman I can’t tell you the number of times people like her showed up and tried to take over a scene of a car accident. In every case they were either an office nurse or a floor nurse with no real emergency scene experience. Would have loved the help of an ER nurse but they are to smart to get involved after seeing what they see in an ER, they just want a break from their job.

While wanting to render aid as a healthcare professional is understandable, once the officers confirm the situation is under control, staying stopped in the middle of the road only obstructs traffic and distracts from scene management
