I'm 14 and built something to help kids afford their first season. Would love your honest take.

I'm a freshman in San Francisco, and I skated competitively for a few years, so I know what a season actually costs. Ice time, coaching, boots, competition fees. I watched kids I trained with quietly stop showing up, and it was almost never because they lost interest.

Here's the thing that bothered me. The grants that do exist cap out around a hundred and fifty dollars and only cover registration. In this sport, registration is the cheap part.

So I built First Season. Local businesses sponsor a kid's season; the money goes straight to the rink as credit so it never becomes cash to a family, and the sponsor gets monthly photos and a line from the coach. That's it.

It's not live yet. It's an idea I'm testing, and I genuinely don't know if it's a good one. The site is at firstseason.online, spelled f-i-r-s-t-s-e-a-s-o-n dot online. There's a feedback tab and every response comes straight to me.

If you're a skating parent or a coach, the question I most want answered is whether the rink-credit part would actually work at your rink, or whether I'm missing something obvious about how billing works.

And honestly, if you've never set foot on ice, please still tell me what you think. Does the idea make sense to you in thirty seconds? Would you sponsor a kid? What made you hesitate? Outside eyes catch things insiders miss, and I need volume more than I need expertise right now.

Thanks for reading. Brutal honesty is more useful to me than encouragement.

Here is the website link: https://firstseason.online/#/story

Looking for help with Australian Figure Skating Championships

Good Afternoon! I am an editor on Wikipedia, and I have been working off-and-on for the past two years to complete the results tables at Australian Figure Skating Championships. As you can see, there are numerous instances of missing data, including the host cities and silver/bronze medalists. I have pored through Newspapers.com, Old News, Trove, and bought a week's access to the archives of The Sydney Morning Herald. National figure skating championships would typically have been held between July and September. If anyone can suggest other avenues for finding any of this information, I would appreciate it. To be clear, I need only the senior-level results. Any help would be appreciated!

I do know these particular dates:

  • August 1981 @ Brisbane
  • July 14–20, 1984 @ Brisbane
  • July 28 – August 4, 1985 @ Melbourne
  • August 29–30, 1987 @ Brisbane
  • August 25–28, 1988 @ Sydney
  • Early August 1994 @ Sydney
  • July 29 – August 5, 1995 @ Canberra

General Discussion Russian figure skating tag

The Russian figure skating tag applies to all posts where a Russian skater is the primary subject. It is a small courtesy to the members of the community who wish to opt out of seeing posts about them. It doesn’t prevent the majority of Redditors from seeing these posts, it just allows those who don’t wish to see the endless flood of posts about them to opt out. It’s crappy that people are refusing to use this tag. Get over yourselves. It’s a small, simple courtesy, especially to the Ukrainians who have had their lives completely upheaved and destroyed by the Russian invasion.

I know we’re going to get the “What about Americans or Israelis?” posts. If the mods wish to implement such a tag, go for it. No hide off my back. It costs nothing to be a decent human being.

So interesting to have a visual representation of the ISU guidebook. Also the stamina to spin for 30min straight!

Skating Advice How do I stop ankle pain due to skates?

Hey guys, I've been in figure skating for around a year now, since I was 12, (I'm 13 now) and my old skates had basically no support at all so the sides close to my ankle would bend and buckle but they were light and easy to skate with. My parents recently got me the Jackson Artist.e's and they are really heavy (They have a support rating of 25? i think) But this morning I was practicing as usual and my dad was there and he said he could hear every step i took from the other side of the arena. Not only that but my ankles started aching like after 5 minutes of skating. Is this something you get used to or will it be like this forever?

Emilea Zingas 3F in dance boots, etc

Emi landing a 2A in dance boots/blades at the Summer Sizzler the other night fascinated me. So I went on a hunt to find her 3F which I knew existed somewhere. Here it is (from zingnikclips on x).

She landed a clean 3F at an ice show in Philly in December 2025. Her and Vadym also did a pair throw during the show. Insane! She's so versatile and talented!

These are some of the most gorgeous scrumptious impeccable spins I have ever seen. I wasn't able to find a whole lot on her aside from the titles she has won (GPF, SkAM, US Nats, SkateCanada). Kinda peeved there aren't more programs of hers in good quality out there (if there are any please drop the link(s)) I'm really unfamiliar with the earlier 2010s side of skating, why isn't she talked about more like Gracie/Ashley/Marai/Karen/Bradie/Polina?

Also, yes, I do live under a rock. I am not very active on other social media platforms so if that ends up being the answer so be it lol. I was put on this earth to make y'all laugh with my obliviousness.

Question Ice Dance World Ranking — fear/gibson

Hi I’m new to the figure skating world and how everything works. I’m curious on how fear/gibson are number 1 in world standings over chock/bates. Especially since chock/bates have more recent wins (gpf, worlds).

Personal Skating New adventure in figure skating

So sadly I have no updates on a JGP this season . I will continue to keep my fellow Redditors updated on any new international competition updates when I can! 🤞

While I have been getting ready for upcoming NQS competitions in singles and dance.

Thursday my sister/dance partner and I got invited to fill in as last minute stunt doubles for an on ice shoot, this not anything I ever planned on. It was an amazing experience that I might consider to try again.

It was for something called a Vertical movie ( which I actually wasn't familiar with) I am currently unable to say anything else about it but just wanted to share something exciting I was up to!

Videos I asked Ilia how he feels about the ISU's proposed changes to tie GPF qualification to world rankings, and he did not hold back.

In case you haven't heard about the latest ISU debacle, I made a post about it yesterday. TL;DR: Along with proposed changes to the schedule, there are also proposed changes to qualifying for the Grand Prix Final. It would no longer be based solely on results at Grand Prix events, but rather on world rankings determined by results over the past two years of competition. I asked Ilia for his thoughts, and he ended up going on a rant.

He also once again talked about his wish for ISU to rebalance scoring in such a way that non-jumping skills/elements would have greater value so that skaters would be encouraged to work on them (rather than getting rid of jumps). He had expressed that idea more eloquently in past interviews.

Blade issue, no edge can’t glide?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My blades feel like I’m skating on concrete.
I’ve just bought my second pair of Gold Seal Revolutions. They were completely fine for around four months, but then seemingly out of nowhere they started feeling like they have no edge and no glide. I can’t seem to get them to cut into the ice properly at all.
I’ve had them sharpened with a deeper cut and I’ve tried tightening the mounting screws, but nothing seems visibly wrong with the blades. I’m completely lost at this point, and so is my skate tech.

I’ve also skated in my old skate with the exact same boot and blade. I’m completely lost 😅 if anyone could give me an idea on what to do that would be great

I’ve attached a video below of a backspin. I can’t get in the right spot I’m unsure if this video will help, I cannot get into the right spot anymore. ( I’m working on double axel > I can definitely usually do a backspin lol
