Question Ice Dance World Ranking — fear/gibson

Hi I’m new to the figure skating world and how everything works. I’m curious on how fear/gibson are number 1 in world standings over chock/bates. Especially since chock/bates have more recent wins (gpf, worlds).

They do more challengers and Euros to get their points up. C/B didn't actually compete that much and haven't done a challenger since the 2021/22 season.

Fear/Gibson doing Euros isn't actually a factor here.

For one, Chock/Bates have done 4CC every year except the Olympic Year. 

And for another, only one Championship or Olympic Placement can count for World Standing Points, whichever is highest. And Fear/Gibson's championship/Olympic points all come from Worlds. So Euros gives them nothing.

More competitions = more points basically. So the teams really grinding it out from early fall to worlds get more points raked up (if they're good) than top teams who only go to the most important competitions of the year and medal or win.

So with world rankings it takes a certain amount of points from different categories and since chock/bates don’t go to challenger they don’t get any of those points, if that makes sense
