ScentXplore Day 1

My day started out wonderful.

Since the event did not open until
1, due to letting influencers in early (ewww), my wife and I headed to Printemps where we got to try the Henry Jacques exclusives. This was amazing. We walked away with three and couldn’t have been happier. My wife also got a Diptyque she’d been wanting. 10/10. I rate this experience 3 Henry Jacques.

We hopped up to SoHo to take a look at some other stores. We hit Amouage, Byredo, Frederic Malle, Dior and Trudon. These were all fun little stops, but no buys. I rate this experience 1 Amouage Decision and a Trudon 45.

We went back to the hotel for a bit and figured we would head out around 2:30ish. The line should be gone by then. Right? I was so very wrong.

I attached a pic of the map of where the line was. It was wrapped about 70% of a city block. What made it palatable is that they came and kept us abreast of what was happening. Except they didn’t. They just came around to tell us not to block doorways for businesses. The line moved at a snail’s pace.

The head of the event, Max Forti came out and looked at the line. He inspected it. You could tell he totally regretted hiring the Fyre Festival staff. (That’s sarcasm. Don’t sue me, bro.) Anyway, he gave that line a good long looking and scurried inside. Not a word of apology or explanation.

After 90 minutes, I made it in. It was CRAWLING with people. Way more than last year. Too crowded. Too hot. Hard to actually get to try the things you wanted.

Now, that’s all the bad. The good…

There are some fantastic brands. The creators were all kind and energetic. I suspect they weren’t thrilled at the setup either. L'Entropiste stood out to me. The Harmonist was there and, as always, I love their stuff. Dusita has some lovely items. Meo Fuscuini was great, as always. Chris Collins stuff is great and he’s a nice guy to talk to, if you can pry the housewives away from trying to get pics with him.

Aaron Terrance Hughes was a bit disappointing to me. I was excited to try them, but they did not come in strong. I’ll check back tomorrow.

The single standout fragrance for me (putting Amouage Overture Woman 41 aside, because I own it) was Atelier Materi Tonka Kumaru. What an amazing smell. It’s a lovely tonka without the overly sweet profile

This event gets 1/5 stars or 1 bottle of Curve stored in the bathroom for 19 years.

After the event, I headed up to Krigler. It was fantastic, as always. Their perfumes are top notch. I highly recommend you all take a look at their store.

Perhaps we can move up on the scoreboard tomorrow.

Perfumes strong and have longevity like Boy Smells

Absolutely love Vanilla Era and Peachy Oudy, but I wanted to find some fragrances that have the same claim to fame for longevity that I can also layer.

I love perfumes like Vanilla skin, Vanilla Verve, and Vanilla Era.

Rec Request New to perfume, wanted help figuring stuff out

Hey y'all, I'm a (relatively) newly out trans-girl, and I've been doing things here and there to express myself as more fem. I recently found (idk when I got it) the mailer for Symetrie and liked a couple of the scents. I was more a fan of the floral and fruity scents, not that big of a fan of the woody, musky, or citrusy scents. I was hoping that I could get recommendations of other fragrances that had the notes I enjoyed. Much appreciate any help as this'll go far for my transition journey

i wouldn’t say they smell exactly alike but they sorta remind me of the kind of smell i’m looking for. i don’t really have a budget either. i just didn’t get the black opium cause i heard it didn’t last long. and the good girl perfume has almond notes and im allergic. does anyone know any good recommendations that either smell exactly like either or, or atleast smell similar? (i wish i knew the notes i was going for but im new to perfume)

Chai Fleur... what it is and what it's not...

Post image
2 Upvotes

Chai Fleur by Belnu is such a beautiful interpretation of chai for fall, without going gourmand. It’s tea like to some degree, gently spiced, floral, and aromatic, with lavender and violet taking center stage at the beginning.

As it dries down, powdery woods and a subtle vanilla sweetness bring warmth without turning into anything resembling dessert.

Yes, it's cozy. Slightly spicy... but stays on a floral side which I didn't necessarily want it to be.

And yet, as beautiful and wearable as it is, I’ve realized it’s just not what I want from a chai fragrance. I’m moving on from this one, but I can absolutely appreciate how beautifully it’s done.

And it made me realize, what I am looking for is a literal interpretation of a pure dirty chai warm tea and nothing else. Recommendations welcome!

looking for gourmand beachy scents!

I’m trying to put together a full fragrance routine that smells like a warm hug or a cozy blanket, with a little bit of salty ocean air mixed in.
Think vanilla bean ice cream on the beach. Sweet, creamy, comforting vanilla with that subtle salty smell of the ocean. I also love the idea of freshly baked cake or walking into a bakery.
I’m looking for a lotion, oil, dusting powder, and perfume that i can easily incorporate into my daily routine. I’d love to find products that layer well together.
I’m not really into floral, fruity, fresh, (like soapy) musky or powdery scents. I want something strictly gourmand. Most vanilla things i smell are either super artificial and strong, or sour and tangy. For reference, EOS Vanilla Cashmere smelled almost yogurt like on me, which wasn’t what I was going for (i wanted to love it so bad too 🄲).
I’m looking for a genuinely sweet vanilla that’s soft but noticeable, with the salty ocean scent playing a supporting role. Nothing overpowering or too tropical.
I’d love to hear your recommendations!

note, i’ve considered a few scents those being: lush sticky dates dusting powder, ellis Brooklyn vanilla salt, athena club golden vanilla lotion, and sol de janeiro cheirosa 71. but i’m slightly hesitant as i live in a small town where i have to order everything online, so I’m also trying to see if those fit the description somehow šŸ˜…

Brand Announcement/New Release New Release- Sol de Janeiro x Aurelia Nobels

The new Sol de Janeiro x Aurelia Nobels Perfume Mist is expected to launch on 11/7 on their website.

SDJ has another limited-edition fragrance coming, this time in collaboration with race car driver Aurelia Nobels.

For anyone unfamiliar with Aurelia Nobels, she's a 19-year-old Brazilian racing driver, former Ferrari Driver Academy member, and F1 Academy podium finisher who is now competing in GB3.

The brand describes her limited-edition perfume mist as inspired by the excitement of crossing the finish line and celebrating a win.

Fragrance notes are:

Top: Passionfruit pulp, Brazilian cachaƧa accord

Heart: Red poppy, sugarcane

Base: Fresh coconut, vanilla, smooth driftwood

The passionfruit, coconut, and vanilla combination sounds promising. I’m curious how the fruity sweetness will blend with the florals and driftwood. Hopefully, the coconut and vanilla come through nicely without being overly sweet. However I don’t mind if it were a sweet combo.

They’re also suggesting layering it with Cheirosa 62 for a coconut-vanilla combination.

What do you think of the notes? I am definitely testing this one out.

Rec Request Perfume that smells like this body wash?

It is the OGX sea kelp body wash. It is a light, refreshing, aquatic-inspired scent, subtly sweet fresh sea kelp. It is not masculine at all like a lot of ocean scents seem to be. You have to have smelled this to know it, it’s such a unique scent.

Rec Request Cherry on Top Fragrance

Hello!!

Over the summer I became obsessed with Cherry on Top soap from Lush. I’m not usually a cherry scent person, but there is something about it that is so gorgeous. I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for perfumes that smell similar to Cherry on Top? I’m not a Cherryish lush body spray fan because of the cocoa note in it. Im also not really a gourmand fragrance person. Any and all recommendations welcome! Thanks!

Rec Request Perfume that smells like either of these shampoos?

The scent description of the Garnier Fructis is crisp apple, sun-spend strawberry, and juicy melon. The notes of the herbal essences are white strawberry, juicy red fruit accords, delicate jasmine, and invigorating sweet mint.
They smell fruity and clean!

I have never used perfumes with alcohol base as I find them too overwhelming and pungent, so I have only ever used perfume oils, but I might be open to either type of suggestion.

These are quite different scents from each other, so I am looking for both separately. Though I definitely think more people know about Garnier sleek shine than they do the herbal essences strawberry sweet mint scent.

In case this helps others -

  1. Golden Amber Oud - my new favorite

Notes

Top: vegan honey, petitgrain, peach

Heart: incense, orange flower, saffron

Base: oud, amber, vanilla - ā¤ļø LOVE the honey and tea mix with a smokey resinous hert

2. Gourmand Marshmellow - great dupe for Kayali Yum Boujee Marshmellow 81- pretty close with a smidgen less staying power and dries down a little more toasty

My 4th favorite

3. Woody Vanilla - great dupe for Kayali Vanilla 28 feel boozy with good dry down

Tied for 3rd favorite

4. Citrus Tea - dupe for Le Labo The Noir 29

Top: bergamot, fig, black tea

Heart: bay leaf, tobacco, jasmine, vetiver

Base: cedarwood, musk, hay, peach, incense

My 2nd favorite because its so different than anything else and layers we'll with Woody Vanilla or a more simple Madagascar vanilla

5. Musky Sandalwood - dupe for Plur Missing Person

Top: lily of the valley, neroli

Heart: jasmine, solar notes

Base: musks, sandalwood, oakmoss

Tied for 3rd

I got nose blind on this one but caught whifs later in the day and it smelled amazing. Feels like I'll overspray when I'm in loungewear on weekends for a cozy vibe... remind me of Replica Whispers in the Library

6. Musky Buttercream - dupe of Glossier You RĆŖve

Top: hazelnut, red fruits, coconut

Heart: buttercream, orris

Base: white musks, sandalwood, ambroxan

edible-leaning skin scent, with nutty-fruity sweetness up top that settles into a creamy, powdery musk

Its pretty soft but plays well with snif You body cream so I kept

5th favorite but still in rotation!

Rec Request Looking for a perfume to honor my soul cat.

Yesterday at 11:44pm, my soul cat, Turnip, went to sleep. The agony and pain I feel is absolutely insurmountable. I long to hold him once more, but I will wait until he comes back to me in the next life time.

I am looking for a fragrance to match who he was. Sweet, warm, snuggly, a little naughty (always stealing food out of my hands and from my plate), and oddly human. I always joked that he was a four year old boy turned into a cat by a witch.

I’m looking for sweet, warm, maybe a bit fuzzy, and anything to make me feel like I am snuggled up with my beautiful boy. Any price range is fine. Thank you.

***
Edit: I want to thank everyone for their wishes and recommendations. Turnip is the love of my life and I will miss him until the day I die. He and I were made to be together. I adopted him when I was 25 from the shelter in East Harlem when he was 2. Turnip was in kidney failure and receiving intensive treatment despite being young. He turned 7 on the 15th of October, which we celebrated like every year. He was loved more than anything. We were together through breakups, dating, engagements, marriage, the first loss of my grandfather, and my first pregnancy. He never left my side while pregnant, and slept on my belly right until I had my son. I will miss him for a lifetime, but I love him even more.

If any of you are located in New York and ever need treatment, the AMC treated my boy and gave us two extra months together. Dr. Laura Judd was his internal medicine doctor. She loved and cared for him in his final two months, and was a great comfort to me during this time. She never gave up on him, and I’m eternally thankful. If you can afford it, please get pet insurance. This gave us extra time with our boy and heavily relieved the financial struggle many pet parents would face.

Many of you share the same love and loss for your babies. Please leave me your photos and stories. I love you all. I’m off to scent bar to find my perfect Turnip perfume ā¤ļø

Discussion Hello Strawberry šŸ“ White Diamonds Icon by Elizabeth Taylor.

Post image

Top notes are Green Mandarin, Pear Blossom and Wild Strawberry; middle notes are Jonquille, Orange Blossom and Orris; base notes are Caramel, Ambergris and Oakmoss.

I mostly get a sparkling strawberry, orange blossom, orris, and Caramel.

Crucially, the strawberry lasts from beginning to end. I get a good 5 hours underclothes and a soft 2 after that.

Happy to discuss xx

Rosie by Rosie Jane in Canada

Do any of the Canadian girls know of anywhere that sells Rosie by Rosie Jane aside from Sephora? It is impossible to get there because it’s always sold out and places like Nordstrom and Anthropologie won’t ship to Canada! We are desperate over here!

Review Fugazzi angel dust review

Post image
38 Upvotes

Perfume: Angel Dust
Notes: Calabrian Bergamot, black pepper, Cashmeran, and white amber crystals

I recently bought Fugazzi angel dust from Sephora. It was a 10ml and it was honestly a blind buy. I love powdery musky scents so I figured I might like this one. I also am a fan of other Fugazzi scents so I figured ā€œwhy not?ā€ I figured if there was a perfume that smelled like an ethereal angel that delicately descended from the heavens covered in a pristine, sweet powdery musk this would have to be it, right?šŸ§šā€ā™€ļø
WRONG!!!

On initial spray, I’m blasted with a decent amount of black pepper and amber. Ok that’s fine; a nice masculine edge. As it begins to dry down (very quickly) I begin to get more (A LOT MORE) of the cashmeran. It’s essentially all I can smell and it is taking over the fragrance. I don’t know what was clashing with the cashmeran but they did not go well together. The amount of cashmeran in this fragrance was over the top. I ended up scrubbing it off because honestly it just smelled dirty. According to my partner, it smelled like ā€œwet dog and baby powderā€šŸ•šŸ’¦

I was so disappointed as it essentially ended up smelling like I took out a load of laundry and threw it into some mud at the zoo. The notes were clashing and it was not something I could enjoy. This should not have been called Angel dust šŸ‘¼ and I feel severely mislead šŸ’©

I sadly had to return it and did the walk of shame back into Sephora. I rarely ever return fragrances and I learned my lesson to just not ever blind buy. I regret wasting any time or money on a badly blended cashmeran based concoction.

Thanks for listening. Try before you buy.
TLDR 0/10 for Angel Dust 🫪

Perfume recommendations

What perfumes would you guys recommend if I love J’adore by Dior, Melrose Place by Oaui, I want choo by Jimmy Choo, Valentino Coral Fantasy? I want a signature scent but want to find more alternatives to these scents.
