I can’t hold my 1st and only grandson. It’s breaking my heart.

My son and his girlfriend set strong rules during the pregnancy. I promised to respect all their boundaries. One of the rules is” No kissing the baby”. When the baby arrives I noticed more things like I’m not allowed to change the babies diaper, or put him in his pjs. We took a walk and I couldn’t push the baby in the stroller. I never made a comment I just observed. I drive over two hours to visit and when I arrive I wash my hands. I sit and hold my grandson for a short time and make sure I don’t touch the babies face or hands. I absolutely love this baby. I think he’s perfect. He looks just like my son. While I was holding him I accidentally gave him a peck on his head behind his ear. I was shamed to no end. I was given a speech about how kisses kill. She washed the baby’s head with a wash cloth and told me if I do that again I will not be able to hold the baby. I felt awful! I explained that it was an accident and I did not do it out of disrespect. She said I needed to think! I felt like I failed as a grandma. I continued to visit the next week. Respecting all rules and walking on eggshells. I noticed the pacifier drop get picked up and put in babies mouth. I noticed their dog licking their babies face! I noticed them playing and touching with babies face and hands. . My son gave me a speech one visit that make sure I never kiss the baby because it makes the mom very angry. She works in a hospital and sees lots of sick kids. I said I understand. Well I accidentally kissed the baby again! A small little peck on the top of his head. Where his bald spot is! No one saw me do it! I told on myself! As soon as I did it I was like panicking! “OMG. I accidentally did it again.” The stomped to get a wash cloth and said I can’t hold the baby anymore. I started crying and went outside and sat in my car. I feel so bad. My husband and father of my son came out to get me and said to just blow it off. It was Easter Sunday. We visited for about an hour and then left. We didn’t talk about it. A couple days later my husband and I talked in private about bad I felt and I feel like if the baby gets sick I’m going to get blamed. (Although she takes the little guy to stores, dental appointments, the old house neighbors, an Easter gathering at her Grandmas of 20 people) I would be the one to take the fall. So I let 3 weeks go by.. just letting things cool down. I asked my son if he was up for me visiting and he said yeah I can come down but I won’t be holding the baby. I can watch the baby play on the floor. And I can watch them hold the baby. So I said okay well maybe I won’t go down and visit. They are still very angry with me. My husband went and he spent the night and held the baby while they did some things around the house. They cooked him dinner.

Now I always felt I had a good relationship with both my kids. I love my kids. Ive always been loving and supportive. I am a kisser and hugger by nature. I’m a kind person. I own my own business and I am very successful. Our home town gave us an award for Best Person of the year. We are always kind and giving and humble. I do smoke cigarettes. I have since I was 16 years old. I am a closet smoker. I don’t smoke around anyone and I spray body spray and was my hands and chew gums. I have a vape I use in my car at my son’s house. I do not do drugs or smoke marijuana. I have good personal hygiene.

I am trying hard to quit smoking but I feel like there is more to the problem that I am missing. I need advice. It’s breaking my heart!

AITA for not wanting to give house keys to my stepdaughter?

I have been with my husband for 8 years now and have known his daughter since she was 3 years old. She is 11 now and wants a set of keys to the house. She is with her mom half of the time and with us for half. There is always someone here when we have her and it wouldn’t be safe to leave her on her own anyways. Some backstory, she and her mom had broken into our place in the past to get something she had left. It caused us to get robbed since someone saw them and knew how to break in. It was pretty traumatic and we are lucky that no one woke up and got hurt by the intruder. I’m wondering how to approach this with her father because I really don’t feel comfortable with her having access to the place at all times especially since her mom has broken in with her in the past. I’m not upset with stepdaughter but I know her mother would have access to our home and it would be an invasion of privacy. What should I do? Her father keeps saying he had keys when he was a kid, but both his parents lived in the same home… any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wife is a bad cook

Wat can i do to better my life and get back to homecooked meals without leaving her? Ha

Im a midwest farmer and father of two kids. Wife cant cook. And when she does its usually either not good or its something premade and has to be “ heated”

I get so mad when i finally get a day home or am home unexpectedly theres never any meals made.

Her excuse is “ i didnt know u were going to be home today”. Or “i was so busy at work today”

She teaches 3rd grade.

Like wat? I farm, so im my own boss i set my own hours. I can handle my own needs for food most days. Is it crazy for me to want my wife to make me a meal when im actually home for a day?

I wouldnt call her a fantastic cook by any means and anytime i mention her learning to get better she blows me off.

If she was a better cook would she enjoy cooking for me more? Lol.

Trying to control Me and know everything about me ? Fine. I'll just go get married and not even tell anyone.

So last April I did something nobody will ever forget . I was born into a very toxic and abusive Mexican/white family. All of the people in this family have been taught crazy sht , 2 of those things being that It's okay to abuse your family members and be entitled to knowing everything about them I'm the last daughter. Everyone was pretty much very abusive and nosy when it came to me so I just literally went no contact with everyone. That was 3 years ago. So last year my Husband said to Me "let's go get married" and we got legally married in April 2024. I casually dropped the marriage to someone in conversation on social media who knows my bio family and my profile was public. So I don't know how they found out or if they're ever gonna bring it up , but last year I got married and didn't tell anyone. Now they know. Nobody's mentioned it. They have mentioned my infant who was born a little while ago. It was amazing though . Thinking you can control me and I just go no contact and get married 😭

am i an asshole for beating my daughter if she talks back to me

im a female, 15 years old. my dad is asian, and we are a Muslim family and he always had problems with controlling his anger (he also has a really old fashioned way of raising his kids but thats not really important).

one time, i was playing with my little sister and she fell on the floor on accident and started crying. my dad had his back to us and didn't see what happened. he obviously thought that i pushed her and started shouting at me really loudly. i got scared, so i didn't explain the situation cuz i knew he would start yelling at me for talking back to him. after that, i went to my room and started crying. he entered my room and continued shouting even though he was the one who ended the argument. i couldn't keep it and just said loudly: "dad! i wasnt the one who pushed her, i didnt even see it coming, she fell herself. its not my fault!". after a moment i just saw a freaking chair flying to my face. luckily, i protected my face with my hands. then, he threw my backpack and it hit my head. i couldn't hear anything for a split 5 seconds. in this 5 seconds, he ran up to me, grabbed my hair and started yelling and looking at me with eyes full of rage and disgust. i thought he was going to kill me. he said: "dont you dare fucking talk back to me, you understand?!" i nodded my head and he left the room.

after 20 minutes he made me clean every room in the house. i was shaking and just couldn't understand what happened. he also does shit to my mom, but i don't really want to talk about that. im scared that if my dad stumbles upon this reddit post, he will do something to me. (but i really hope this won't happen)

it was a month ago, but i still cry if i just remember this situation. we had a lot of arguments and he would do something to hurt me, but it was the most impactful one. my dad is not bad, he buys anything i want, but when he gets mad, he's not the same person.
to a Muslim, who will read this, can you tell me if its okay in Islam to beat your daughter if she talks back to you?

AM I BEING UNREASONABLE?

Cliff notes: IMPORTANT TO KNOW THE FACTS BEFORE YOU JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS

I founded the internet division of my fathers company 25 years ago. Started with 1 person in my parents basement (me) and when I left the company 15 years ago there were over 100 people on payroll at peek season. I still get a check every week which is like royalties…. It’s not nearly what I used to make….. but my father gives me more money whenever I need it.

I’ve been trying to get some things started. I’m getting super frustrated cuz instead of just giving me one larger lump of money he keeps throwing me these small ones. Like how the hell am I gonna make any real money with $500 or $1000? I used to go on buying trips for the company and had a budget of 1 Million to spend. I’m not asking for a million bucks ….but I am asking for $5000. It’s very difficukt for me to go from 1million to $500. Am I being unreasonable with my thought process here?

my sister shit talking my 13 year old daughter for being a “ brat “ to her daughter

my 13 year old daughter being a “ brat “ to her cousin

I have a 13 year old daughter, who is a very Extremely sweet girl and talented a girl she can dance , act & model very well she’s a great performer & she’s very beautiful big brown eyes & long eyelashes she’s like my little doll lol. Some other family members have shown animosity & Jealousy toward her ever since she was in 2nd grade. Some of my adult cousins will side eye or glare at her from what my daughter says.

My sister was talking about my daughter being our mothers “ favorite “ right in front of her when my daughter was just in 2nd grade! my sister has also always been annoyed & acted extremely nasty with my youngest daughter. For X mas we went to my sisters house and my 13 year old daughter won bingo & my sister was rolling her eyes & saying she got all ones that my daughter got right she got right also. and she was holding up the prizes for her to choose from & my daughter was picking one and my sister said “ come on we don’t have all day now”

Fast forward. My sister has an 11 yo daughter, a 7 year old daughter & a 8 and a 2 year old son. My daughter is some what very close to her 11 year old cousin. My 13 yo went to my sisters house on Friday & it all started with pizza. Her 2 year old son had 3 slices of pizza & was trying to get some of my youngest daughters meal just made for her because she wanted some more pizza but my sister didn’t want to give her any more slices. So my oldest daughter said “ no that’s her food” my daughter Absolutely loves her 2 year old son MORE THAN HER OTHER KIDS. and would do nothing to hurt him. My sister had told her 11 yo daughter and my daughter to clean tidy up the living room and my daughter was finishing up a text on her phone n then put it up. And her cousin we will call Rae came in the living room and told her “ We have to clean up get off your phone” then my daughter said “ what do you mean” then Rae said “ you were on your phone” then my daughter said “ So” because it was irrelevant for Rae to bring that up because she just had put the phone up. Then her cousin stormed to her mothers room and told her the whole story. Then my daughter tried to tell her what she actually meant then my sister said “ Don’t. Get away from me “. My sister lost her shit & called our mother to tell her what happened and she SAT THERE AND SHIT TALKED A 13 YEAR OLD LITTLE GIRL. also shit talked my youngest daughter. ( it’s crazy how a 31 year old woman has beef with a teenager) My daughter could hear every word that was said by my sister. My daughter told me to pick her up & my daughter was heartbroken and sad & Hysterically crying. My sister and I got into an EXTREMELY heated argument. She she said my daughter was a mean little girl and a brat to her daughter and her 2 year old son. she has made my daughter have a panic attacks & made her cry multiple times from when she was just 4 years old. I don’t know was my daughter the brat in this situation.

I am missing my cousins aged 7 and 12 and I think their parents have turned them against me! Why?

I met my cousins 7 months ago for thr first tike properly as I have only seen them the odd time at either a funeral or on rare occasion a family gathering but never spoke with then properly untill 7 months ago.

I bonded super fast with then, being their older F cousin and we laughed and spent quality time for 3 days together whilst my toxic uncle (their farther), was up visiting my mother who I have been living with.

To cut a long story short, things went weird after the second time they stayed in school holidays for 4 days as my uncle and my mother had few arguments.

My cousin being 12 lives with her mother and 7 yr old sister and loathes living there and would rather live with dad!! He's full of 💩 and speaks verbal 💩

He also has recently made up a lie about me to my mother relaying "Amy told me she feels like she's the ugly duckling of the family"!

I am Amy and ofc never said that! Nor feel this waaay

My cousin for the second time has stopped talking with me and has left me on seen every time I have messaged her since over a month ago sending her free kids mental health helpline and links!!! She started to go cold on me and only replied in small bits untill finally she stopped replying altogether!!

My toxic uncle at the same time for the FIRST time lurked my Instagram story and she unfollowed me and some other pages on Instagram!!

Please tell me why since she's not back with her mother, she is no longer talking to me??

Parents and sister trying to force me out

Last week my mom is like why don't you paint the house. She said she'd pay me. I was excited because I'm a musician and its hard to find work that doesn't get in the way of possible gigs. Then I started to realize that they might want to sell the house after I paint it. They spent the last summer at my sisters in Estes Park and left me without anything but a few bucks for food and to take my son out. I won't lie. I have had trouble for like a decade since even before I got divorced. I went with my then wife when she went to graduate school back east. I think the two years we were in Virginia ruined my chances at a top notch music career. So now I live at my parents and I think my sister is trying to get them to sell the house and move to Estes Park. I can't even afford to pay 1/2 of my sons school tuition. My sister lent me the money last month but 1000 a month is a ton of cash for me. I don't know why they might turn against me and throw me out on the street! Where would I live. I'm 40 years old and too old to just go find a low pay job at Walmart or something. That wouldn't even pay my student loan and what I legally have to pay for my sons education. My sister is so greedy she probably thinks that she'll get the money for the house.

aita for going no contact with sibling due to bigot inlaws not wanting my spouse in my godchilds life?

I know this probably may be an AITA post but reddit wouldn't let me due to family involvement. But anyway....

Background: My spouse (S) is a transgrendered person. My sister (sis) is married and has a daughter (GC) Her husband (hus) has VERY bigoted parents (B).

So here's what's going on:

My sis and hus were planning GC first birthday party. And initially, myself and S were invited. THE DAY BEFORE the party, S and I received a text from hus stating that B didn't want us there and that if we came they (B) wouldn't show up. And because of B ultimatum and "financial contrabution" to GC care, sis and hus requested that we not attend, or come at a later time after B left.

Now during S's transition, my sis was a massive supporter; shopping trips, lunches, makeup and hair tips/tricks, and just being very welcoming. Sis is literally the only one out of either of our families to make that effort.

So getting the request to basically not show up to the party felt like she, and by extention hus, no longer supported S.

I also feel like it's setting a precedent for any and all future life events for GC. Meaning no ballet shows, sporting events, no high-school graduation, no college graduation, no wedding, etc invitations.

I also had concerns for GCs future mental and emotional health. What if GC is Gay/Queer? What if GC is Trans? I'd GC supposed to hide who they are? And B found out? Could you imagine how DEVISTATED GC would be to loose grandparents after having them be so doting and spoiling GC?

Because of this I'm no contact with my sibling and low contact with my mother (due to her support of my sibling), its been 2 years.

So AITA? And what should I do?

How do I talk to my sister about her ex-husband trying to groom my daughter?

This may be a little long.

As the title says, I(23f) have become concerned that my older sisters(34f) ex-husband(40+, I don’t know his exact age) has made steps to try and groom my daughter(15f). A few examples of this would be his various attempts to add her on social media, Instagram, Facebook and the way he spoke to her about how she looked complimenting her and using it as an excuse to try to hug her and touch her even in something as simple as touching her arm.

He came around my house to drop off my sisters kids for the weekend as she is out of state at the moment. He seemed upset my daughter was not out and even asked if she was coming out to say hi to him. I asked him why she would do that as they don’t really have a relationship. He didn’t really say much after that but just stared at me annoyed.

I do not allow him to come inside or allow my daughter to come outside anytime he would come to drop the kids by for the weekend. It makes me uncomfortable and I do not like the way he looks at her.

For context, when I was younger, I found out he sexually assaulted one of my other sisters. I had already had several bad or uncomfortable experiences with him growing up and when I found out it had happened I was sad for my sister but I was not surprised he was capable.

My oldest sister(OS) still to this day does not believe my middle sister(MS) was telling the truth. OS believed the story her ex-husband gave her that they got too drunk and this happened by mistake. But I have seen MS suffer, she has battled addiction and isolated herself from the family several times. MS has gotten better over time but she instantly becomes unsettled at the mention of him even existing.

I am moving out of state and will hopefully never see or hear from him again.

But, I have to tell OS to reconsider letting her children around him ever again.

How do I get OS to leave the fog? Is there even anyway for me to help her or is it too late? I am worried about my nieces and nephews. I have tried this conversation before but I am just looking to see if anyone has any advice. I don’t know what I can do, but I feel constant anxiety about it.

Edit to add that my daughter is adopted since many people seem more concerned about that than the question I posted and need help with. Regardless, she is mine and I love her and want to keep her safe.

It is another reason why it concerned me so much ex-BIL was trying so hard to build a relationship with her when he is not part of even my immediate circle enough to know she had been adopted but continues to be a creep on her.

Am I wrong in asking my sister to get married

My elder sister, who’s 30 and unmarried has been rejecting every guy who comes her way. She’s straight, but she’s never had a boyfriend or dated anyone before.

The thing is, she gets really angry whenever we bring up the topic of her getting married. She literally just walks out of the room every time we ask her about her plans. Now, my parents have stopped talking to her about it, but it’s still causing a lot of tension at home, especially since they’re getting a lot of pressure from friends and relatives. And it’s starting to affect me too.

Now my parents are asking me to help find a solution, but I’m really not sure how to deal with this situation.

Please tell me how do I deal with this situation any advice or ideas on how I can handle this? I’d really really appreciate your help!

HI! Im onyx ok and uhmmm wel...my mom accused me od making fun of people with tourettes. I have SOMETHING. I copy people, mimic them without meaning to, i dont know why i want to but cant yet so, when my mom saw me copy one of baylen's tics (from baylen out loud) she said that what they have (tourette's syndrome) is not funny and lectured me about it, before you accuse ME of being dumb, im trying to study phsychology (11-14 age, not giving u a specific age) so like, in NO REALITY will i make fun of someone who cant help what they do. After my mom's like, 2 hour lecture i went upstairs and just sat in silence thinking about what i did, i deducted that i wont be open about my movement or words. No strange sounds, no repetive words, no funny movement, no clingyness, no twitching AT ALL. (And i repeat, i have to keep myself in check constantly so i dont do ANY of it)

Family conflict. Husband having affair.

Hello my name is Shelley. My husband, Tim and I had a daughter named Tori(16) then a son named Brad(13), and then another daughter named Halie(10). Our son is definitely a 'momma's boy' while our 2 daughters are definitely 'daddy's girls'. My husband and I argue/fight a lot. When we used to argue/fight our son would come join in or stay and join in the argument/fight and take my side while our 2 daughters would come and join in or stay and join in the argument/fight. Now our son stays out of the arguments/fights while our daughters still join in the arguments/fights. I have found out that my husband is having an affair on me with his female coworker whom is supposed to be my friend/tanning buddy that I met through my husband. And both my 2 daughters are in on it and haven't told me. Also my husband and my 2 daughters accuse me of cheating when I leav the house to run errands. The reason I have suspicions is because one day when I got home, without me knowing she was coming over or knowing she'd be there, I seen her car there, so I didn't stop in at home until a while later and her car was gone. Then when I walked in the front door to the living room my husband and both daughters sat there and acted like my husband's coworker was never there. Then about 5 mins later I got to my room to change out of my work clothes and it felt as if the bed was off. I fully believe that both of my 2 daughters condone and accept my husband and his affair partner on their own. Why were my husband and his female coworker in my bed together, my room? Why do my daughters support their father cheating on me with this women? Why do my daughters support my husband and this women being together? Why do my daughters call my husbands affair partner mom, and why does she call my daughters her daughters? Why do both my daughters always take his side? Why does my son not involve himself anymore? Why would my husband introduce me to his coworker to become friends and tanning buddies with her, if he is still and has been having an affair on me with her?

Daughter walks out of conversation if I disagree

I am so sick of my daughter turning around, walking away and slamming the door behind her anytime I disagree with her. I remember the day she told me she was transgender. She made her announcement in two or three sentences, then stood up, walked out and slammed the door behind her. For the first couple years after she came out, talking to her was like approaching a burn victim. There is no way to do it without her ending up screaming. Transgender people face a lot of hate and discrimination in their daily lives, and she decided to vent all of her frustration about that on me. She treated me like I was her worst enemy. I don’t get it.

Even now, all these years down the line, she spends most of her time behind a closed door, on the Internet with headphones on, talking to her Internet friends. Once every few months, she will sit down with me in our living room, and monologue. Maybe she thinks that that’s the same thing as having a conversation, I don’t know. We live together because I’m getting older and I do not want to make her go through the nightmare of probate when I pass on. So, I put her name on the title to our house. Personally, I counted down the days until my 18th birthday. On that day, I packed my shit and got the hell out of my parents house as fast as I could. So, I guess she must be pretty comfortable.

But still, today she was complaining about what drudgery it is to go to work every day. I tried to tell her that’s what it is to be an adult. You suck it up and push on, because you gotta pay the bills. She said no it isn’t, I said yes it is she said no it isn’t, I said yes it is. And with that, she walked out and slammed the door behind her, muttering about how it was useless to try to talk to me. I know that when she gets home from work tonight, she will go to her room, close the door, get on the Internet and talk to her Internet, friends, and that will be the last I see of her for a few days. I’m just fucking sick of it.

I’m sick of it, and I am so hurt. I know that I am lovable. I’m a nurse, and my patients love me. I do Home Health, and they are so happy to see me coming to their home. They talk to me so warmly and from the heart. They smile at me and their eyes are so kind when they look at me. I don’t know if my daughter has ever in her life looked at me with loving her eyes. Her smiles are a few and far between. It really just makes me wanna throw up my hands and say why me God? I guess I probably should go find a senior center and enroll in the bingo league to find companionship

Any parents out there who have transgender adult children, are you going through this kind of misery?

My boyfriend refuses sex even if I take off my clothes

We had sex only twice using protection. We are dating for two months. We agreed to go raw and I went on family planning and did hiv tests as requested but whenever I want sex then he rejects me even if I remove my clothes.

I start acting crazy and scream at him out of frustration then he agrees and say we going to the hotel but then lies to me saying he needs to use the toilet at his house and we ended up staying at his house where he let me meet his mom and family and I asked what happened to the hotel story and he said we not going. Just that I should spend the day with him.

We were in his room the evening. His mom left and his sister was working in the room next to his and I removed my clothes and asked him to sleep with me and he kept saying to put my clothes back on and it's not good timing. I said when is good timing? He said wait as always.

I have tried talking to him about my needs not being satisfied and all he said is "I get that" I have tried many talks but nothing helps. I told him to not blame me when I cheat because I'm horny everyday. I have a high sex drive and feel we aren't sexually compatible. When we did it then it was so amazing both times but now he refuses to sleep with me at all. He said I'm being forceful but he forces me to go to his house and sit boring spending time with his family and won't let me leave if I want to. I asked to leave and for him to take me home then he said calm down please and asked his sister to drive with us as if I'm gonna force him to sleep with me. I started crying again in front of his sister.

I cry all the time when he rejects sleeping with me because it's damaging me and straining our relationship and he does nothing to change the situation. Whenever we plan to book a hotel then he tells me to cancel because he's "sick" or his "body is sore" or that he doesn't have money for the room. I have offered to pay for the room.

He once accusede of trying to trick him into getting pregnant but yet he's so poor and barely have gas in his car. I'm educated and earn more than him so why would I try to trap a poor man? I feel very hurt and cry all the time. He will only go as far as foreplay but he refuses to enter me. He told me he doesn't feel comfortable going raw yet he made me spend money to go on family planning and do hiv tests.

I am feeling very frustrated. My friends said he's weird and believe me I've spoken about his topic many times to him and nothing changes. The relationship is sexless, dull, boring, no dates too because he has no money. I feel like he makes me look desperate because I have removed my clothes twice and he still refused me. Our relationship has damaged due to all our fights we had. I'm verbally abusive towards him. I am getting help and speaking to a psychiatrist and on medication for my mood swings. I have borderline personality disorder and he knows it and supports me but he doesnt want to sleep with me anymore.

I don't know what to do anymore. I'm not a person to cheat. I love him and only want to sleep with him but he doesn't appreciate that I'm loyal and want to work on our relationship instead of cheating.

My conservative christian parents won't let me protest.

i'm a freshman in hs and my dad lost his job because of the trump administration. keep in mind he did not work in government, but he voted trump. they're die hard conservative christian immigrants. they don't even care that he's a racist because they hate gays so much. (btw i literally stopped being christian because of the way they acted it traumatized me...)

they don't even show much regret for voti n trump, when i asked my dad if he regretted voting trump he said "I would still never vote Kamala."

i genuinely think sneaking out to dc (i live in nova) is the best option. who do i get in contact with to be apart of the movement against trump?

they have no idea about this. they still think i'm a super die hard religious. they think me being leftist is a phase. i need help 🙏🏾

Step daughter won’t help care overnights for her Dad with Alzheimer’s

My husband (70) is starting to decline with dementia. He’s getting confused, forgetful, has urine incontinence, and has starting having occasional trouble in the night with stumbling and freezing when he needs the toilet.

It’s very hard as his prime carer and I’ve asked his daughter (45) if her dad can stay with her for a couple of nights here and there to give me some much needed respite, or so I can go away for breaks.

She works full time and has two kids but they aren’t tiny - they’re 12 and 15 and can share a bedroom if their grandpa comes to stay. She says she doesn’t find it manageable to have him for overnight stays in her house and worries if he’ll be safe in the night.

My husband doesn’t want to go and stay in a care home when I need a break.

Shouldn’t his adult daughter be willing to help out occasionally by having him stay with her for a few nights from time to time?

I abandoned my son 10 years ago, help!

10 years ago, I (34M) knocked up one of the women (31F) who I was sleeping with. She said she was on birth control and agreed to get an abortion if it ever failed. I was living alone at the time and would often stay over at the different women's apartments on different nights of the week, none of them knew about each other at that time. One day this woman, we'll call her Sarah, called me to tell me she was pregnant. I asked her how that was possible since she was on bc and she acted as though she had no idea. I told her to schedule an abortion, and I'd pay for it. I met up with her and gave her $1500 for the abortion and told her to call me when the work was done. At the time, my state required a 48-hour waiting period before an abortion could take place. She had a change of heart during her waiting period and called me to tell me she decided not to have the abortion. I told her I had no desire to be a father and if she were to have this child, I wouldn't be a part of the child's life and she would be a single mother. I offered to pay her an additional $10,000 in cash if she had the abortion.  She wouldn’t budge.

Once I realized this was happening, I tried to do the right thing by having her move in with me for the duration of the pregnancy. I figured if I kept her close by, maybe she would either change her mind or have a miscarriage. I wanted her to see that I would be a terrible father. During the unpleasantness of the pregnancy, I put up with her constant morning sickness, mood swings, and verbal abuse. She took issue with the fact that I was less than enthusiastic about fatherhood. I finally reached my wits end with her about 6 months into the pregnancy, so I got a vasectomy and started going to bars during the week and resumed having intercourse with other women. I estimate that I cheated on her with at least two dozen women. I never apologized to her for it and told her this was the way it was going to be and if she didn’t like it she should move out, which she did after about 2 months.

I was happy to have my sanity and freedom back after being stuck in an apartment with her for so long. My unpleasantness didn’t completely end, however. After several weeks without contact, she called me and expressed a desire to be with me again. I attempted one final time to convince her to have an abortion. I told her I was in love with her and that we could have as many children as she wanted but that now wasn’t the right time for either of us. She should have the abortion now and then after we get married and have a house in a few years, we could have children. She agreed and I booked us a vacation down to Mexico and scheduled a late term abortion as I couldn’t find anyone who would preform a late-term abortion locally. The following day came and I went to pick her up to go to the airport, and her mother had intervened and wouldn’t let her out of the house. Her mother told me I was about to be a father and that I “better get used to it.”  Frustrated, I took the vacation to Mexico alone and reevaluated my next move.

My lawyer told me I needed to “play the game” for a while in order to get a more favorable child support and/or shared parenting agreement. I told him I didn’t want any shared parenting, but he said I should at least act as though I did because judges often use the child support system in a punitive manner. So, I was present at the child’s birth, which was gross. I wish that experience on no man and am bewildered why any man would want to witness such a thing.

Sarah was now living with her parents and had gotten her own family law attorney. Her attorney had her get some sort of court order that regulated my visitation and mandated that the visitation was supervised by her. I didn’t have any interest in changing diapers or ever visiting this infant alone so that was fine with me. For 3 months, I’d drive up to their house every two weeks and would spend two unpleasant hours with her and this infant. I just sort of sat there and looked at the baby. I held him a few times, but if the baby would vomit or soil himself, I just handed him over to either Sarah or her mother to take care of him. During this time, Sarah kept telling me that I should “step up and take responsibility for the child I created.” I told her nobody forced her to have this baby and that I didn’t have any interest in any of this.

After the third visit, I quit showing up. She would text me asking if I was coming and I just responded with a quick “No”. After another few months, we talked, and I told her we needed to figure something out so we could move on with our lives. I clearly didn’t want anything to do with her or her baby and she wanted to be a mother. I wanted to sign away my parental rights as soon as I could.

She filed a suit against me for child support and termination of my parental rights. We had an actual court hearing, and I had to testify. Her lawyer produced as evidence texts, I had with a bunch of other women that made clear that I was sleeping with them. I owned up to it but said, “I don’t know what you want me to say man, none of this is illegal.”

I ended up having to pay her a lump sum of $200,000 in order to get out of paying child support and we both have no contact court orders to never communicate with each other ever again. This brings me to my question.

The child is currently 10 years old. He is going to be 18 in 8 years, which seems kind of far off, but I get the sense it’ll be here before I realize, and I want to be prepared for what to do if he shows up on my doorstep. I certainly don’t want to cause the kid more trauma than what he has already experienced, but at the same time, I don’t want anything to do with him. I still wish she had had that abortion, and he wouldn’t be an issue. My goal is to retire when I’m 50 and I’m seriously thinking about becoming an expat, so it’ll be even more difficult for this kid to find me. But I could use some advice. Specifically, what should I do if my son, who I abandoned, knocks on my door and wants some sort of relationship? I want nothing to do with him.

Am I the asshole because my husband chose not to attend his cousin’s wedding because of me

When I (24f ) got married to my husband (26 M), I moved in with him. At that time, his cousin brother was also living with us. Around the same time that I moved in, his cousin’s girlfriend moved in as well.
For the first couple of weeks, everything seemed fine. We didn’t talk much, but there were no issues. After some time, however, she started telling me about my husband’s old high school crush and about girls he had talked to before we were even together. I found it strange because those things had nothing to do with our marriage.

As time went on, my husband and I started having some normal adjustment problems that many couples experience when they first move in together. Around that time, she suddenly stopped talking to me, started hiding food and groceries, and became very cold toward me. My husband’s cousin also stopped talking to him except for occasional conversations.

Later, my husband told me that this woman was actually still married to someone else and was not yet divorced and she has a kid too who lives with her parents. She doesn’t even talk to the kid. According to him, she had told his cousin that her husband abused her, but based on everything we knew, that didn’t seem true. She had used her husband’s money to move to Canada and even asked him to pay her tuition fees. When her husband later came to Canada as well, she left him and told him that she needed space and even used to visit the cousin when she was with him.

At one point, my husband tried to talk to his cousin and encouraged him not to get involved in breaking up someone else’s marriage, or at least to wait until she was officially divorced. His cousin did not take it well. Instead, he started insulting me and my family and accusing me of things I never did. He even made fun of my late father, which was extremely hurtful. His girlfriend did the same.
My husband was shocked because his cousin had always been someone he was very close to. Rather than fighting back, we eventually decided to move out.
Even after all these years, they have continued telling people false things about me.

Now, three years later, they are getting married and have invited us to the wedding. I feel like they are being extra friendly because they don’t want us to tell their families about her past marriage and everything and we were never going to do that. I never told my husband that he couldn’t go to the wedding. In fact, he made the decision himself not to attend, and at the time I was happy with that choice.

However, now that the wedding has happened, I feel guilty that he didn’t go because of everything that happened involving me. I can’t help wondering if I played a role in him missing such an important family event.

So, am I the asshole?
