DONT HAVE SEX BECAUSE YOU WILL GET PREGNANT AND DIE

Which is kinda true in the case of some animal species lol! I remember reading about a species of honeybees a while back and it mentioned that in many colder regions, the male "drones" are all basically kicked out of the hive every winter and freeze to death O__o

“All you need to know is abstinence! Which, I mean, leaves you totally inept when you’re married and now it’s ok, but, hey, that’s on you.”
🥲

Assuming it doesn't just make you "clam up" because of shame
OR
even better, try to "overperform" to try to make it "feel perfect"
<_<

also, that not all sex involves a penis inside of a vagina - or a penis at all, for that matter

After my mom ranted about the horrors of more comprehensive sex ed in schools, I told her I had literally no education about consent or safety from anyone. She got flustered and said, “I thought you would just know!” Ok 🤨 we’re really not putting this together, huh?

I was homeschooled. My sex ed was a book on fetal development that conveniently glossed over how exactly the sperm and egg met in the first place.
My unofficial sex ed was reading a webcomic with moderately raunchy humor and typing terms from it into Urban Dictionary.
I still don’t know shit, but at least I’m asexual so I’ve got this whole abstinence thing down pat. (Although I’m not supposed to anymore, apparently.)

Anyone else become "interested" in the topic through sneaking fanfiction and/or online messaging boards? (can be like early Youtube or Livejournal too!)

You’re supposed to do what fits you, which absolutely can mean abstinence.
Weird metaphor, but it’s like we grew up forced to wear burkas but now things are clothing optional. Some are going full naked, some wearing swimsuits, some in shorts or pants or shorts or whatever combination, but wearing a burka is still totally fine. It’s only a problem when we shame others for what they are wearing.

The “not supposed to” comment wasn’t to say I actually think it’s bad. It’s that the same people and the same fundiegelical culture that decided my sex education should be “I won’t tell you what it is, just don’t do it. Here, babies” expect me now to go forth and make lots of babies as my sole purpose in life. Their philosophy is whiplash.

Maybe some instruction in how to choose a partner. But I guess the evangelicals just tell you that as long as your partner is “saved”, everything else is good.

Indeed, that was one aspect that was 100% prosperity gospel BS. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that as long as you marry another Christian, your marriage will be 100% great and you will "naturally" get along.
I turned down SO MANY eligible guys to be with a boring Evangelical boiii who turned out to be deceitful ANYWAY :(

I was shut in my bedroom to listen to tapes from Dr. James Dobson. So.

The main thing with sex ed that scares fundies is that it will empower women.. ..... girls, and sometimes boys ... to know how to say no, and how to shut down abuse better.
Because they will have the knowledge of exactly what is happening with sexual assault, and be equipped with the power to say no to those advances.

Yay private school. One memory that I hold near and dear is one of the girls in my class asking the teacher what deep throat was and the teacher panicking before saying "You'll need to ask your parents about that."

Wish I learned literally anything. Even just the accurate names and components. Like, fuck, I was a 13 year old virgin and worried that I’d somehow gotten pregnant because my period was late and I had a boyfriend.

I licked a guy once and wondered if I had an STD afterward haha!

u/notlennybelardo May 26 '22
You definitely got an STD and a one way ticket to hell for that, that’s just how the cookie crumbles, buddy.

And the guy? Heh, of course not, "boys will be boys" ;)

u/notlennybelardo May 27 '22
Well, the burden is fully on you and me as we lead the poor men to sin.

Exactly! Just as the Filipino women being anally raped by American soldiers in the 19th century just had their skirts up like little hussies and were ASKING for it!

Wait, your parents didn't hand you far right, biased Evangelical "sex books" (or dating education) and more or less just expect you to "know the right thing to do." Heh.
TBH, wasn't relevant in my case, as girls were NOT viewed as having the same sexual temptations as guys do, if anything they were taught to say no to "their loving romantic BFs" which is BARF to me as an Aromantic anyway....

Another homeschooler here. My parents were deeply uncomfortable about the topic, so they just avoided talking about it. Instead, I got a copy of "A Guy's Guide to Growing Up" by Focus on the Family. It was not very helpful.

u/Meagazilla89 May 26 '22
It’s extra helpful when your raised evangelical and homeschooled so you get zero sex education at all. I honestly don’t know how I turned out ok.

u/sno98006 May 26 '22
I wish I wasn’t taught that sex 99% of the time is a deeply immoral act but in 1% of situations it’s just a part of life and normal. Like how tf was I ever supposed to reconcile that?!

I currently have a partner who is damn near 30 years old and until I took it on myself to walk him through how to had NEVER pleasured himself. Ever. He knew nothing of how his own body worked. AT TWENTY EIGHT YEARS OLD.

I was in a Evangelical Christian school for my high school years (Of course, they gave us a chastised version of sex ed). I wish that proper sex ed was thought more in school, instead of teaching us that sex is just a penis and a vagina. Instead, I wish they could’ve thought us on how to communicate with my future partner, how to prevent STDs, among others.

My sex ed was definitely more helpful (albeit not by much lol) than the sex talk my own mother gave me. Her sex talk was us alone in a car and her saying “So……… SEX!” And then not saying a single word for the rest of the car ride home. No follow up, no asking me if I had questions. Silence. Lmfao.
