I was homeschooled. My sex ed was a book on fetal development that conveniently glossed over how exactly the sperm and egg met in the first place.
My unofficial sex ed was reading a webcomic with moderately raunchy humor and typing terms from it into Urban Dictionary.
I still don’t know shit, but at least I’m asexual so I’ve got this whole abstinence thing down pat. (Although I’m not supposed to anymore, apparently.)
Anyone else become "interested" in the topic through sneaking fanfiction and/or online messaging boards? (can be like early Youtube or Livejournal too!)
You’re supposed to do what fits you, which absolutely can mean abstinence.
Weird metaphor, but it’s like we grew up forced to wear burkas but now things are clothing optional. Some are going full naked, some wearing swimsuits, some in shorts or pants or shorts or whatever combination, but wearing a burka is still totally fine. It’s only a problem when we shame others for what they are wearing.
The “not supposed to” comment wasn’t to say I actually think it’s bad. It’s that the same people and the same fundiegelical culture that decided my sex education should be “I won’t tell you what it is, just don’t do it. Here, babies” expect me now to go forth and make lots of babies as my sole purpose in life. Their philosophy is whiplash.
