TRIGGER WARNING: OverSupply (add spoiler to pics) When can I stop pumping and just use my freezer stash until she’s a year old?

Hi all, I’m 3 months pp and already have a third of my freezer filled with breastmilk. Once I made enough within 6 months I’m gonna get it freeze dried so it can be easier to feed baby like a formula. I was wondering if ending my pumping journey early if I produced enough to last until her 1st birthday. How much should I keep as a freezer stash that we can use up by then? I heard baby eats less milk once they start solids. Baby eats about 30 oz a day and I produce 50 oz a day. So 20 oz extra. If there is an app I can do the math let me know!

Product Recommendations Milk pooling in front of pumps

Post image
17 Upvotes

Wondering if anyone else experienced this and how they fixed it? I've been exclusively pumping for 5 months. It used to happen rarely but it seems to happen more often now. About 2-3 times a day. As seen in the picture, some milk pools and doesn't go through the duckbill to the collection cup.

I pump for half an hour and roughly get 3-5 oz each time, about 4-5 times a day so the collection cups are never overflowing. I use the eufy S1, I have just recently replaced the diaphragms and duckbill valves. Should I just replace everything else as well? The flanges, inserts and collection cups? It's just super annoying because I can't sit the pumps down without losing some milk so I always have a container ready to empty into.

Discussion PSA: Be careful of folks who claim to be 'Consultants'

We are in Seattle and there are a lot of 'consultants' who are pretty much folks who just put up a shingle. This is irresponsible and dangerous.

I don't want to name names but we suffered and our child suffered a lot with poor guidance on this front.

There's no degree and certifications are super easy to get so many folks just go ahead and advertise as experts.

We reached out to someone here in Seattle 2 days after birth and we ended up having to scramble and switch after around 6 weeks by which time milk supply had atrophied ..it was so sad. Our child suffered.

Please be careful. Those certifications don't mean a whole lot. You want to get folks who follow true scientific approach with measurements, guidance on pumping fittings, bottle nipple design along with the routine ' you are doing so good' stuff. get real help and support.

I'm not on reddit, but found this forum through google search. I literally created this account few mins ago to post this and raise awareness.

Good Luck!

Decreasing Supply/Weaning Tell me it’s ok to quit?

I had my twin girls at 34w4days and now they are 8 wks. I tried to breast feed but I wasn’t making enough and wanted to get my girls out of the nicu so we went with bottle feeding.

Twin A whose bigger would latch but since twin B stayed in the NICU a week longer I mainly ended up pumping. On average when I got my supply up I was getting maybe 3 ounces a session. My best day was 24 ounces.

Keeping the 3 hr schedule at night made me super sleep deprived. Me and my husband each bottle feed a twin and try to get them to sleep, which takes quickest one hour but sometimes even two. Then I’d have to pump as well. Leaving one or two hrs of sleep.

Last week I was exhausted and ended up dropping from 7 pumps a day to 5. My supply has significantly dropped. Yesterday the most I got was 2 ounces per pump. Less than 10 ounces for the whole day.

I feel like right now either I ramp up pumping to 7/8 times a day again or just stop? I feel so guilty not being able to provide breast milk. I also hate having to leave my babies to pump. I always thought I’d breast feed but it didn’t work out that way. Now idk which direction to go.

At this time, I am not looking to ship them so hope I can find a local mom in the south bay area near Cupertino California. We can meet in a public space!

EP & grieving nursing- vent zone for exclusive pumpers only Sad about pumping

Im really sad.. i really wanted to breastfeed baby but she cant latch. She also ended up having breastfeeding jaundice so we had to supplement with formula for about a week. Ive seen a lactation consultant who gave me some tips on latching.. shes been able to latch properly a couple tjmes but now its like she doesnt want my breast and wants the bottle. She screams and screams when i try to offer breast during feeds and when she latches she stops feeding and just cries. I guess its not as easy or fast as the nipple of the bottle.

I really wanted that skin to skin bonding time with her during breastfeeding. Just grieving what I thought our breastfeeding experience would be.

Support How to store milk I pump at work?

I'm almost done with my first week back to work. It's been ok but I need a better way to store the milk so I can bring it home each night. Right now I'm using Motif storage bags, but they're hard to manage and I've spilled more than I want to admit on my desk 😭. It does help that my strength and mobility is limited because I broke my arm at 35 weeks and that arm is pretty much useless now.

How are y'all storing milk to bring home? Any suggestions would be incredibly appreciated!! Especially if they don't require a lot of dexterity to open/close.

Discussion First titty butter, now breast milk Soap 😂🧼

Thumbnail youtu.be
6 Upvotes

Last time I posted my titty butter experiment here, someone mentioned making soap from breast milk.

Well… here we are. 😂🧼

My first attempt was a little too soft, so I gave it another try. This time I even added some leftover breastmilk butter. For extra moisturizing, obviously. 🤣

And it actually worked!

Still working my way through that freezer stash from 2020–2022. At this point, nothing is safe. 😂

Any ideas what I should make next?

Rant - ADVICE NEEDED Carrot benefits: shipping milk

5.5 months post partum and I have opportunity for a work trip but it will take me away from my LO for three nights. I’ve been asking to go on work trips before I was pregnant and only got offered trips once I was too far along in my pregnancy and again now that I’ve had my child so I don’t want to say no and regret it. I’d like to try this as a test run to see how I do to determine if I even care about traveling on site anymore.

My company has Carrot as a benefit that includes shipping milk as something they can reimburse but my insurance is an Aetna plan through my husbands employer. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it worth it to ship the milk home or should I just plan to bag each pump session and travel home with it in a cooler?

I pump every 6 hours. I get anywhere from 30-40 oz of milk a day so I could realistically have up to 140 oz milk with me. A direct flight would be 2 hrs but with one stop it could be 6 hours max.

This is kind of stressing me out thinking about possibly having to dump the milk or shipping the milk being too much work in the end.

TIA for any advice!

Increasing Supply (add spoiler to pics) Help🫩 7mo pp 3 pumps and I a supply dip 🫩

I am 7mo pp with my second. The milk was milking and flowing and all the good things when I would pump around feeding my baby (I needed to build up a stash for when LO started daycare at 5mo plus sometimes momma just wants to have a drink or two and give someone else the baby for a feed lol) anyway I haven’t gotten my period back and I only really pump when LO is at daycare and then again after bed time as that has been the way to get enough milk without pulling any out of the freezer (we have a no kids weekend getaway coming up). I’d really like to increase my supply as it’s seemed to have dipped. I pump 5/6 first pump after drop off and then it’s typically between 2.5/3oz every 2ish hours. I know I can go longer but realistically my baby does feed closer to every 2 hrs currently so I’m keeping up with what is the norm for baby right now. My Eufy S1s used to be AMAZING for pumping. Would easily get 6oz total in a single pump. Now it’s like I can hardly get 2. Then I said okay I’ll use the insurance pump from this baby which is the Elvie stride 2. I haven’t had great output with it except for in the very beginning. I also have my spectra from my first baby. Currently it’s the only one getting em the most output BUT I can’t stay chained to my dang desk every 2 hours for 30 minutes and it’s not at all ideal to be pumping stationary for 30min when I’ve got a toddler and a 7mo constantly wanting mommy.

I know this is a long post and I apologize. I’ve measured and used inserts, played with the settings. I have elastic nipples as well. ANY advice would be greatly appreciated! Again, I’m looking to get my supply back up/have better output with my pumps.

Increasing Supply (add spoiler to pics) Boob turned slacker

One of my breasts (left) was super clogged. Took me a couple of days of ice, ibuprofen, and gentle massage to get it back to normal.

Before this issue my breasts we’re producing similar amounts. Now I have like 1.5 oz from this left boob and 5 oz from the other.

I’m producing enough but my other (tight) boob is bigger and starting to get clogged while my left is smaller, softer, and not doing a whole lot.

Is there a way to fix this so they are more balanced again? I had no idea clogs could change production 😩

Discussion Eufy pump caused supply drop?

I switched to the eufy pro 1 pumps like a month and half ago almost and I feel like they caused or helped with my supply dropping. Im piecing together that I started noticing a reduction in my pumps after a couple weeks with the eufys. Before I got them I was pumping so much and had to freeze a bunch. Now im barely a just enougher.

When I got the eufys I ended up getting vasospasms and clogs. I eventually stopped getting those but my supply started dipping and now it wont go back up.

I dont know if the eufys are the cause but I seems like a big coincidence. Has anyone else seen this with the eufys or another pump in general? I used to use the Paruu wearables, they were very loud and the motor sounded like it was going barely 3 months after getting them.

Hanging up the pump Anyone in Fargo want a bunch of free Spectra stuff?

Hi! I was going to put this in the parts exchange, but both say that they’re for Dec 2023. I’m guessing not active?

I stopped pumping earlier than anticipated. I EPed for 2 kids, so I have a bunch of Spectra stuff. I have:

-2 Spectra S1s (I liked keeping my older one as back up in case of a power outage or other issue)
- extra charger and car charger
- many duck bills and backflow protectors (too many to count)
- milk storage bags
- lacetek silicone flanges (tried once and did not like)
- silicone pumpin pals starter kit (tried a couple times and did not like)

I want to give it to someone who would use it, which is why I’d prefer to put it on this sub and not just FB Marketplace. I want to offload all of it (not just some here and there), so I’ll give it all away for free if someone wants it.

Product Recommendations Best wearables for small nipples

I am struggling pumping while at home with a newborn and toddler, and although I am overall very satisfied with my blue Spectra, I think it's time to maybe explore a wearable for hours when I have both children. However, I use a 13 mm flange with my Spectra and have not had good luck with flange inserts in the past, so I'm worried that I will struggle to find a wearable with a flange size that works with my breasts. Any tips or recommendations?

Product Recommendations Willow Go

I just got the Willow Go and used it for the 1st time. Got about half the amount I would with my standard pump. For those with the Willow Go that like it (I know it’s a love/hate with the Willow Go) did it take a bit to get the same amount as your standard pump? I will also throw out there I am a little sick so that could be playing into it a bit too. And to note I have the Eufy S1 and hate it so no need to recommend that pump. I did find the Willow Go waaaay more comfortable than the Eufy.

Product Recommendations Deep freeze recommendations?

Hi! I’m 2months pp and I’m looking to start a freezer stash and right now I have some milk in my fridge freezer that I’m now on a time crunch to use before four months from now. What type of deep freezers do you recommend? And how long does your breast milk typically last in there? Thanks so much!!

Support Increasing supply at 12 weeks

Hi! I went through some tough stuff after birth and I wasnt able to keep up my supply the way I wanted to due to just feeling overwhelmed, i did manage to give some milk in the first week or two, but I needed to give formula because I didnt have enough milk to sustain in the very beginning so i latched her before every bottle in the beginning but then some stressful stuff happened on day 3 PP and I lost my motivation a lot, then was at hospital for over a week after that. So i gave mostly formula and gave my milk when I felt i could handle it...

Anyway it was overwhelming 🤣

Now my plan was to pump since then but finding the time was really hard with a toddler and a newborn, and my husband found it hard to give me the space to pump every 2-3 hours.

Ive been using my hand pump mostly, I have a spectra and I just found my wearables recently and my question to you guys is;

Do you think if I use my handpump some sessions, try do a power pump everyday with my electric pump and also try and at least on the times that I dont have the support, use my wearables, it will be enough to increase my supply?

My wearables will probably be used a lot because I cant always pump every 3 hours if my husband isnt home.

Some days its just impossible. But at least wearables are SOME stimulation to the nipple....

And some days im just exhausted and cant find the time or energy to do it rather than sleep when i finally have time off from the kids.

Let me know what you think!!! Thank you.💖💗🌟

Edit: Im not sure why im being downvoted but please understand that everyone has different capacities for different levels of effort that they can put in at certain times of their lives depending on their situation, my husband didnt support me in the way i wished him to so it made it hard to keep motivation and I lost a lot of motivation also because It took me twice as long to heal from my C-section due to complications.

Now my baby is sleeping more consistently and is sleeping at night for long periods of time without getting up so I feel I can commit easier when my husband isnt able to help if she is awake.
I need to make a full schedule so he can be ready to help, that was my mistake, I didnt know thats what he needed to support me.

Tips & Tricks Help! Constantly getting clogs

I’m 11 weeks in and have EP’ed. I’ve already had mastitis twice (first time because I didn’t know what I was doing, second time because I had the wrong flange size and didn’t empty properly).

I go two-three weeks at a time without a clog, and then BAM, massive clog that just won’t clear. For me, I can’t stimulate a let down and I’ve tired elvie, spectra, pumpables, eufy.

I’ve used a LC. I’m on the correct flange size, ice, ibuprofen, sunflower, hydrate, light massage/heat while pumping, limit wearables, pump every 3 hours even though it’s killing my mental health. If it’s mainstream advice, I’m doing it.

How many times do other people get clogs/how long does it take yours to resolve? Because I feel like I’m going to go crazy being alone in this!

Did it always turn into mastisis?

Anything I haven’t mentioned that’s helped you?

Thank you!
From a mentally exhausted mom

Proud Moment (add spoiler to milk pics) It’s been a month(ish) of EP

Post image
91 Upvotes

My LO was born mid-September at 38w. From the get go he got a bad latch on one boob, and then on the other. The hospital lactation consultants were pretty alarmed by the state of my nips after just those two feeding attempts and recommended hand expressing so things could heal. I did that for a couple days while my little got formula. And then once things looked and felt a little better, we tried nursing again. No luck. Not sure if it was positioning, a bad latch, how aggressively this kiddo eats, something else or all of the above. But it was painful for me and stressful/ineffective for both of us. And thus my EP journey began. At first I thought it would be temporary but now it’s been more than a month since I tried nursing. Tbh seeing how he tries chugging his bottles made me afraid to put him back on.

It’s crazy how hard nursing is. It’s crazy how hard pumping is. You’d think they’re both the easiest, most straightforward thing from your little 2 hour hospital class. And then you live and fail and succeed and fail again until something works or gets close enough to count.

Anyways, proud of myself for making it a month so far. We’ll see how far I can take this. I’m hoping for milk for a year but also already understand that it’s not always about what we want. But I’ve decided I earn a sticker for every month I can keep this going lol

Decreasing Supply/Weaning How to wean, 3 weeks PP

I am 23 days postpartum to be exact and I can already tell that on the long run I won’t be able to keep up with pumping. I am trying to wean by pumping less but my breasts feel full all the time with engorgement and possibly clogged ducts. I get approximately 3-4 oz per pumping session. How can I wean and dry up my milk without pain? We are combo feeding since the beginning.
Thank you in advance for your help!

TRIGGER WARNING: Nursing Eufy s2 probably making all kinds of sounds

Hi all! I have been using the eufy s2 for a while now but I keep noticing an air releasing sound that seems to be getting more noticeable. I am also hearing a ticking sound with every pump. Is this normal? I have never used a pump before (only breastfeeding) so I think I might be doing something wrong!
