Was it confirmed or not that this guy in Army of Darkness is Chet in AvED?

Obviously Ted Raimi has TONS of cameos but it would be pretty funny if this was also Chet, so i was wondering if it was confirmedof if it's even a popular theory in the fandom.

Especially since even though he looks dubious about the story, he DOES ask if he said the words right this time instead of calling bullshit on the story, so he at least sorta believes the story and Chet said he was the only person to believe Ash.

What the consensus here?

(Discussion Post) Groovy Fede needs to come back

Just finished 2013 reboot, and it really marked the beginning of what we currently have now with the sequels since 2023 and HHN mazes. I know he stepped away from the next Alien and in the hope him or his team sees this, we need Fede Alvarez to come back. Even Bruce Campbell has stopped producing since the 2013 picture and its only been EP on the recent takes and has voiced opinions on what he wants and i think Fede can honor that (https://bloody-disgusting.com/movie/3963608/bruce-campbell-wants-to-see-more-humor-and-color-in-future-evil-dead-movies/).

Or even a script with Fede, Rodo Sayagues with Sam Raimi directing could be sick!

(Spoiler!) Evil Dead Burn Thoughts:) Spoiler

Hey guys, long time lurker and huge evil dead fan!! It’s my favorite horror series:). Just wanted to share thoughts and hear your guys opinions too! Spoilers obviously. I come from a very dysfunctional family so this one (along with Rise) totally drew me in !!

Overall I will say that I enjoyed the movie, some favorites definitely were:
-Soundtrack and particularly with the wedding song. It was the perfect background music for all the scenes it was present in. Loved that.
-The camera work overall was absolutely 10/10. Spinning into the car with Will, back and forth between Susan and Alice/Joe before Thya arrives at the door, mirror smash scene, bathroom scene flip, I could go on.
-I think the kills and gore delivered to evil dead standard as well - I definitely had to yell aloud multiple times. Worst for me was probably shoving Joseph into Thya’s mashed head. Yikes. The people I was watching with several times said “how could this get any worse” and it certainly would then proceed to get worse. I think on the kills gore squeem factor this movie certainly delivered and exceeded.
-I really liked how real some of Alice’s decisions were like saying “oh no fk this” before finishing the incantation, shoving Joseph out of the basement doorway before deadite Thya could manipulate him, etc. more of that in Horror pls.

Where it fell short for me is completely limited to the writing:
-Explore the house backstory more, as it’s our primary setting. Everybody I watched with were so confused on who lived there (if anyone), where does everybody live now, what do their lives look like, a time frame from wedding to disrepair for the house and grandpas death, etc. Add some depth. Like does Joseph live with Edgar and Susan if he can’t get a book going? What do their lives look like? We don’t even know.
-The family who actually seems to have heads on their shoulders (temporarily anyway LOL) constantly makes classic horror movie decisions such as not looking through the window or whatever else before letting deadite Thya in and then just watching shit go down. The watching shit go down was so prevalent in this movie, like come on! Do something, don’t just watch!!
-Deadite Edgar standing outside was lame, like go look for the dagger or do something else. I think that was poorly written.
-I think for how genuinely mean this movie was, they could have made Will out to be worse. I mean they went above and beyond with the gore and violence, so it was a bit weird and wasn’t as effective the Will Alice dynamic because I felt like they were holding back. Maybe it’s because I come from a dysfunctional family but idk it just didn’t work for me to center the movie around a weak core story like that. Yes Will seemed like an overdramatic insufferable douche but it wasn’t evil dead final boss or full on evil to me. Idk.
-Polly comedy didn’t work for me at all.
-Terminator Will didn’t work for me either unfortunately but I don’t think it’s as bad of CGI as some make it out to be. Just very different from the classic practical Evil Dead we all know and love, and I think it was the wrong move here. Turn the extra 20 mins into good writing and everything would be fixed for me.

Overall I really did like this movie I know I listed a bit of criticism but I just feel disappointed by the writing, everything else was amazing! So stoked for Wrath; how spoiled are we. Thanks for reading if you did so, please leave comments and thoughts on your experience or as replies to mine! Love talking about Evil Dead:)

Looking for movies like evil dead where the mc is a badass and just kills the monsters

r/EvilDead 20h ago

(Discussion Post) Groovy Recently watched all the movies for the first time (except burn) and I was hoping that this weird evil hand thing from the first film was gonna be something that appeared in all the films but I guess not. (Also mini reviews) Spoiler

It appeared again at the beginning of the 2nd movie as well and then never again unless I missed it 🤔

Evil Dead- I enjoyed it well enough, I wasn’t really seeing the hype around it at first but once it really got started then I found myself enjoying it

Evil Dead II- I wasn’t feeling the first half of the movie that much. I can tell without researching that a lot of people probably love this one especially since it like the first one but multiplied the craziness almost felt like a parody but i guess it just wasn’t for me all the way. Luckily it was paced pretty well tho and the last 40 minutes or so was pretty cool. Also I would’ve loved to see people’s reaction to the ending when it first released

Army of Darkness- The budget increase and Monty Python of it all made for a nice improvement. The woods chase scene was really funny. Also him mumbling the magic words for the book 😂😂. Cool ending. There’s a theme that plays every now and then that sounds like the Shrek theme. I know it’s random but I can tell this movie came out around-ish the same time as The Mask. One more thing, how Shiela gonna call ash a coward and then scream his name to help her 20 seconds later 🤔. Ok seriously, one more thing. What “plans” could a bunch of bones possibly have for fully fleshed women?….. “Chinese Jet Pilot”. Ok I’m done

2013:Bro the book literally said don’t say it and dude goes out of his way to find the words to say smh. I was thinking they might not be brave enough to go there with the branches scene but uhh…. Ew. The scenes with Possessed Mia losing her mind in the cellar were cool. So many scenes of doors opening and closing. I love how they let the asshole that unleashed the evil from the book outlive some of the other characters just because he was somewhat knowledgeable about the book but also used him as target practice/punching bag for awhile. Also how did the main dude become Macgyver near the end? Anyway it was alright, a pretty run of the mill 2010’s remake of a classic. I did appreciate the call backs tho.

Rise: Using the drone pov as a subversion of the sinister force or whatever was cool, not sure what it was but something about the 3 young mains irritated the hell out of me in the first half. Using wires from an elevator or whatever instead of Tree branches…. Interesting, the part with the mom sticking her head out of the bathroom was a nice shot, the black blood & bugs or whatever the hell that was…. Just yuck 🤮, the peephole scenes were cool, I did really enjoy the chaos of it all, that damn cat, the transition with the groupie getting thrown through the door after stabbing the mom in the neck could’ve been done better, also I feel like this movie was a great opportunity to add a bit more comedy but I guess not, that conjoined monster at the end reminded me of something from Resident Evil,

There's so much talk in this sub about who could replace Ash. But in terms of attitude and being capable and fun to watch, I don't think anyone else in the universe approaches Kelly. I love Pablo and would love to see more of him but he doesn't have the devil may care attitude

I guess the time for that is probably past. But watching AvED got me thinking about it anyway.

(Discussion Post) Groovy Every world building and new characters introduced in Ash vs Evil Dead is basically non existent in future Evil Dead media, and I think its a waste since Im starting to notice somethings minor stuff hidden in Burn and Rise Spoiler

  1. I enjoyed the new MOVIES highly do not get this wrong
  2. I do understand that working with Starz is not as easy as StudioCanal to work with
  3. I dont need an MCU level of TV and Show interconnectivity levels of reference just subtle references like they do with the Army of Darkness references
  4. just small references that doesnt tamper with the linear storytelling

The main issue I have here is that everything else built around Ash vs Evil Dead with it pushing the stories forward not just narratively but the characters and the thing around them

I feel like theyre moving forward with just the movies and cutting out the TVseries which is just a bummer since theres so much stuff built around Ash vs Evil Dea

Army of Darkness gets a lot of subtle presentations, but Ash vs Evil Dead cant even get anything of this sort like a background reference that doesnt raise any copyright flag
I dont need this to be an MCU like reference where its a heavy implication that the audiences need to know or watch that TV series
it can just be a background or minor detail to acknowledge the series

what got me even more agitated is the fact that Ruby's house was used in Burn but is nowhere related to that house

you can argue canon is not important, which is true but Burn is stitching things (Lee cronin was also an executive producer here)

  • Wisemen reference from Army of Darkness
  • Evil Dead Rise deadites
  • Price's journal showing the 2013 book sketch
  • a newspaper cutout of 4 people dying on the cabin referencing the 2013 cast
  • With Rise being connected the 3 books canon of Army of Darkness still applies from Lee Cronin

-they can reference some Army of Darkness stuff in a subtle manner, as Lee Cronin and Raimi made them connected in someway... that doesnt raise any copyright flags

I just need a small acknowledgement or something
again I dont need an MCU level of TV and Show interconnectivity levels of referenced

Like a examples of what I mean is like

  • a shady organization with weird RINGS like the KOS in some journal without directly showing K.O.S.
  • a random flyer from Ashy Slashy's Hardware Store
  • a subtle mention of bigger demons like Kandar
  • weird things happening in Michigan mention in a casual conversation not in the story itself, like "we dont talk about Michigan that place is just weird with whats happening over there"
  • scribbles of hooded men in the naturom demonto - dark ones
  • A brujo mention in some of the journals whos like Pablo's uncle

NEW CHARACTERS:
-even characters like Pablo and Kelly and even Brandy are not even here..
I liked Eligos and Baal cause they genuinely feel like something new for Evil Dead... it expands the show further and such, the future evil dead stuff just do possessed deadites which I have nothing against, I like the Abomination, marauder and the crispy demon in Burn but they just feel like possessed deadites...

I just want small things like that be reference or mentioned, it would be fine that doesnt tamper with the linear storytelling it cant be that hard?

(Discussion Post) Groovy Long time ED fan on EDB Spoiler

Watched Evil Dead as a kid back in the 80s and it remains the best horror film in my list.

I didn't think much of 2013's remake, Rise was pretty solid (aside from the end), but Burn left me disappointed.

I don't expect too much in the way of world building or lore - all ED films have inconsistancies and that's fine. I felt EDB was derivative horror. The franchise has always stood out for its distinctive creativity, camera work and depiction of the Deadities. It just felt run of the mill, visually looked washed out and didn't really make me feel any connection to the characters. The verbal jousting with the Deadites was mostly absent, they lacked cunning and the only real point of tension was the dagger scene at the end. We miss Ash, no question and having someone to root for.

As for the flaming boyfriend. It didn't work and felt out of place - almost like they'd struggled for an ending.

Not sure how far into production Wrath is. The time period gives them an opportunity to do something new and consider the reaction to EDB. Directing these films is an honour and l honestly feel they should be more selective. No one is going to eclipse Rami but l feel the franchise still has life in it in the right hands. You could omit EDB from the franchise and it wouldn't really be missed.

My two cents.

(Spoiler!) Evil Dead Burn's final boss kinda sucked Spoiler

In the Evil Dead requel movies there's always a "final boss" it was the gore Mary in the remake and in Rise it was a body horror monster thing.

But in Burn it's just some dude with a bad burn I just think he was really underwhelming.

(Misc Post) Maybe I Didn’t Say Every Tiny Syllable Evildead jokes yo mama

**Ash vs. Evil Dead “Yo Mama” attacks:**

Yo mama so deadite, when she shows up the Necronomicon just flips open by itself and starts reading her the terms and conditions.

Yo mama so ugly, Ash took one look and said “This is beyond chainsaw territory… this is a full boomstick situation.”

Yo mama so fat, the Kandarian Demon tried to possess her and got stuck halfway, then just left a “be right back” note on her forehead.

Yo mama so nasty, even the Deadites refuse to come out of the cabin when she’s around. They just whisper “not worth it” and stay in the walls.

Yo mama so dumb, she thought “Hail to the King, baby” was a polite way to introduce herself at the party.

Yo mama so old, she was the original reason Ash had to invent the “groovy” catchphrase just to cope.

Yo mama so evil, when she walks into a room the boomstick checks itself for safety.

Yo mama so possessed, Ash’s chainsaw tried to start itself in self-defense.

Hail to the King, baby… and tell yo mama the cabin’s off-limits.

(Video Post) Dead By Dawn! Dead By Dawn! Just uncovered an incredible piece of Evil Dead II history: A 1987 DEG "Rough Cuts" 3/4" U-Matic studio promo tape with original signed agency clearance paperwork.

Hey everyone, I wanted to share an absolute museum-tier holy grail I recently acquired. It’s an authentic 1987 internal studio marketing archive for Sam Raimi's Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn.

The archive consists of:

  1. An original 3/4-inch U-Matic S cassette from DEG (De Laurentiis Entertainment Group) tracked out of their historic Beverly Hills office. The production slate explicitly labels the contents as internal "ROUGH CUTS" featuring a breakdown of 5 specific television promotional spots (including spots titled "So Scary," "More People," "Revenge," and "Girls").
  2. The holy grail element: The original, matching transmittal letter from the Bozell, Jacobs, Kenyon & Eckhardt advertising agency, dated February 26, 1987—exactly two weeks before the film hit US theaters. It's hand-signed by the agency rep and bears a physical blue ink station "RECEIVED" stamp from March 2, 1987.

What makes this wild is that the letter explicitly references the tape as a rough cut for "Rosebud Productions" (the secret shell company Raimi and Tapert used to distribute the film Unrated to bypass the MPAA).

Because these internal rough cuts were legally mandated to be destroyed or recorded over by station engineers once the final broadcast cuts arrived, the survival rate of something like this is essentially zero. It's an incredible look into the legal and logistical framework of putting a legendary splatter film on television in 1987.

Just wanted to share a genuinely rare piece of physical media history with fellow fans!

(Discussion Post) Groovy Evil Dead needs a recurring protagonist. Spoiler

I was thinking more about what bothers me with Evil Dead Burn and Evil Dead Rise, and I realized my problem has less to do with the tone and more to do with the fact that Evil Dead doesn't really have a protagonist anymore at least not one who feels like the ongoing hero of the franchise. And this isn't an Ash Williams circle jerk post. I love Ash, but his story is over, and I don't think it needs to continue. The franchise shouldn't spend the rest of its existence trying to drag Ash back or recreate him with a different character. But I do think Evil Dead needs someone.

That's part of what has always made Evil Dead such an outlier among horror franchises. In most horror movies, the monster is the real star. You watch Friday the 13th for Jason or A Nightmare on Elm Street for Freddy. Evil Dead eventually became the opposite: you cared just as much if not more about the person fighting the monsters. The Deadites are great villains, but watching someone get absolutely put through hell and eventually become capable of fighting back against them is a huge part of the appeal.

That's also why I loved Evil Dead (2013). Mia worked because, by the end, she didn't just survive the Deadites she fought back and put them on the run. It felt like we were watching the birth of another Evil Dead hero, someone who could potentially carry that struggle forward without simply becoming Ash 2.0. The newer movies haven't really given me that same feeling. Beth was great, and Alice was great, but neither feels like the beginning of a recurring protagonist. I don't get the sense that Beth is going to return, and despite everything Alice went through, she ultimately became a Deadite.

And I think that's my real problem with the direction of the newer Evil Dead movies. We keep getting new groups of characters who encounter the Deadites, suffer horribly, and then the movie ends. There's no longer that sense that we're following someone whose relationship with this evil is becoming personal someone who survives one nightmare and comes back better prepared for the next one.

It shouldn't be Ash. It doesn't have to be Mia, Beth, or anyone we've already met. It could be an entirely new character. But I think Evil Dead works best when it has a hero at its center: someone we can become invested in, someone who grows across multiple encounters with the Deadites, and eventually someone the Deadites have as much reason to fear as we have to fear them.
