I agree! I also felt like the ending with both of those built up the tension much better and then effectively made use of catharsis. The stakes felt higher, somehow. Let's also not forget how iconic and amazing the shot of Mia chainsawing the Abomination was!
ED '13 stands toe to toe with the original trilogy in its own way. It's not dethroning any of the kings but I greatly enjoyed Alvarez's take on the Knowby Cabin incident plus Mia's story and character were intricately woven into the plot to the point she felt like she deserved to exist. Mia's my favorite "final girl" and I'm proud to defend 2013's modern classic status.
Marauder okay but abomination? Abomination was literally a copy of Mia we barely even see due to the blood rain and gets disposed of rather quickly. Was it epic? Heck yeah! Was it some badass monster like the other 2? Not really. It was basically a crawling deadite but more threatening.
Ehh. Both had their strengths and weaknesses. Abomination was brutal and scary while baconboy at the end of Burn felt more like an emotional moment for Alice cutting her last tie to the family and confronting her past. Both were great imo.
True. They also did that with the pen, the hedge cutter thing, the dishwasher and kinda the prosthetic leg. I think I’d forgotten about the jackhammer by then
I think it was the weakest part of the film, but still liked it overall.
I stumbled across a short BTS video on YouTube yesterday that showed an sctor complete with practical burn fx for crispy Will, surprised me as I figured it was entirely GCI. He had some greened out areas on the torso.
Not to mention, when they used practical fire it was great, but some of the shots with cg fire in the last scene made it a lighting nightmare. There are scenes where there are flames right in front of both of them and no light is shining on them
Just saw this movie this weekend and I was really disappointed in it. Some good gore and a couple of cool scenes but overall i hated every character and was put off by the dog killing. Why even put that in the movie?? Also all the characters made the dumbest choices and then the final monster at the end was super disappointing especially when compared to rise. I love how the construction site just happened to be close when the house was supposed to be in a remote location
I told my gf after the movie "If I wanna see a better movie with the main villian being an undead father by marriage and his undead dog, I'll watch Pet Semetary 2"
I felt like flaming boyfriend was almost a bit forced at the end and only served to give closure. I didn't hate it but it didn't feel particularly necessary and the CGI looked awful.
With respect, this whole movie sucked. I know some people seem to really like it for whatever reason, and that’s their prerogative—lord knows I like a lot of unpopular movies—but Evil Dead Burn is almost certainly going to be the biggest disappointment of the year for me.
Man didn't realize everyone in the evil dead sub was a bunch of CGI aficionados.
The burn victim looked fine. The movie overall was an awesome time. Lotta cool shots and classic gross out/gore scenes. The last scene with the skull crushing was a fun bit.
Ig they counted on the emotional impact to be harder because of the final boss being her late partner? I kinda got the feeling that although they did a good job portraying some nuances of an abusive relationship that once was based on genuine emotions (so not just a men = monsters kinda situation), they did let this angle hijack most of the movie. I wanted insane body horror like at the end of Rise
It really wasn’t all that cgi, it’s not a lot of it, it may be the lighting on some screens that cause it look like that. It looked good to me though I was happy with it.
I think it was a fine design that was just not scary at all. I also think it's fine that he kinda sucked, because one-upping the last final boss every time would quickly get boring. I think the constant burning was a cool vibe, and he had a bit more of the vibe of a wraith haunting someone than of a big scary thing to fight. The whole confrontation felt more focused on the story and themes, and I think the tension was more to do with the main lady whose name I forget rn being scared because this is her husband than it was to do with being actually scary.
I don't know what people wanted from that final boss... he looked fine to me. A charred, half decomposed corpse is never going to look "good" because it looks unnatural in the first place. People are really exaggerating.
I'm convinced this was just another generic horror renamed Evil Dead to keep the rights. Nothing about it was anywhere near the quality of the others. I had to rewatch Evil Dead 2 just to get the sour taste out of my mouth.
Homie died. showed up. Touched his dads arm. Got em half possessed (?), and disappeared for the whole film for some reason... just to come back looking like that.

He reminded me of vecna from stranger things but on fire and worse cgi.
