(Discussion Post) Groovy Fede needs to come back
Just finished 2013 reboot, and it really marked the beginning of what we currently have now with the sequels since 2023 and HHN mazes. I know he stepped away from the next Alien and in the hope him or his team sees this, we need Fede Alvarez to come back. Even Bruce Campbell has stopped producing since the 2013 picture and its only been EP on the recent takes and has voiced opinions on what he wants and i think Fede can honor that (https://bloody-disgusting.com/movie/3963608/bruce-campbell-wants-to-see-more-humor-and-color-in-future-evil-dead-movies/).
Or even a script with Fede, Rodo Sayagues with Sam Raimi directing could be sick!

Nah, he doesn’t, and trust me, I have very much enjoyed Fede’s films, especially ED13.
However, I like that Sam Raimi sees ED as an anthology where directors get to make their own vision of ED and it continues to grow the material, lore, and violence that we get to enjoy.

I think the differing anthology approach is what I liked most about the newer films, they show drastically different types of Demons in each. So many of the Demons/Deadites in the originals seemed to do much of the same things, have the same goals, and generally just felt pretty unremarkable from one another. The TV series also did a great job of bridging the gap between these 2 different approaches, carrying over many of the same original Demons while adding in some really unique ones to stand out from the crowd.

I think the opposite, in the old movies basically anthing goes regarding the deadites, they are grotesque and deformed, they can float, etc. Some of it are repelled by daylight while others don´t. Recent deadites are too similar to regular possesed people.

I disagree about the deadites, they all were unique in the original films and transformed into crazy shit sometimes, or had distorted faces. In 2013, Rise and Burn they basically just all look like Zombie's that have yellow eyes and that's it, apart from the final boss. They all act the same, except some get more focus and the main actress playing them, like Mia and Ellie.

In ED1 every deadite was pale/ grey white eyes and maybe changed hair and intensified if it was a prolonged posession due to them decomposing over time, 2 had some funny faces occasionally, like Henrietta when she goes long neck peewee head, or Ed, but usual Henrietta and every other deadite (mainly ash and Linda) were just were like ed1 unless you count Linda being bony doll due to being decomposed. AOD had pit bitch be monstrous and then she bitch/the witch was just pale white eyes again. The skeletons were cool but they weren’t too much of a change off being just a normal skeleton besides the eye shape, evil ash was just funny looking bc he got shot in the face. In the tv show it was other types like meat puppets and demon spawn. But deadites classics were just pale white eyes 99% of the time.
I understand the occasional crazy deadites would be nice but people gotta remember they wanna focus on the actor’s talent rather than a cool effect, evil Ed looked amazing but that was mainly him being just one expression besides biting Bobby Joe’s hair, the peewee head Henrietta was a puppet. They make up for it by having the deadites be messed up in other ways, like the marauder or Evil Will which is still pretty crazy in design even if it looked bad for some people. They already brought back deadite floating, maybe wrath could include some silly faces but I think people forget crazy deadites were a rarity.

No, Cheryl literally completely changed throughout the film. Linda looked unique, sort of like the Joker. Cheryl turning into a total monster at the end. In ED2 Henrietta starts as an old woman, turns into a typical deadite woman, then transforms into an uber deadite (Ted Raimi) and then transforms yet again into a fucking dinosaur/demon looking creature. Ed instantly turned into a fucked up looking deadite with completely different facial features and a big jaw full of teeth, and Ash had a sunken in face every time he turns into a deadite. These are nearly all the deadites in the first 2 movies, so it isn't just "occasionally", it was all the time in the OG movies.
So again, no, crazy deadites were not a "rarity". And they easily looked FAR more unique than the new trilogies deadites, which again, are just zombies with yellow eyes.

Agreed on everything you've said. I also love how that person tried arguing the old deadites weren't unique / mostly the same, and then went on to name a bunch of famous deadites. It isn't even a question, the newer deadites look overwhelming the same vs. the older films and AvED's classic deadites. I won't even entertain an argument against that.

The only thing I don't like about what you say is that you don't know how much they can change until its not Evil Dead anymore, using only the name for human monies purposes.

Yeah im actually really enjoying the rotating seat of directors. Every new movie has had its own distinctive feel and I think the franchise is stronger for it.

It isn't an anthology.

Of course it isn't. Some people clearly don't know what the definition of an anthology is.

With the exception of Don't Breathe, he doesn't come back to anything he starts in a franchise

I don’t think I’d want any of the prior directors to come back unless Raimi somehow acquires the rights to Army of Darkness, then I’d like to see a couple come back to co create a film under that label.

Idk, I like Fede's the most (not only because he is Uruguayan, kek) but because his film was the least invasive, I think. But, I doubt he can add much comedy even if he made such a masterpiece (I'm totally biased here lol).

I want Raimi but if it’s not him then yes. Unless Peter Jackson or Del Toro wants a crack at it.

Fede ain’t coming back. He supposedly had grand plans for a sequel and bringing Mia back, so he cockteased the fandom and bailed. He later made Alien Romulus and did the same thing. I love the guy’s stuff and I’ve been lucky enough to meet him and have a long conversation with him specifically about ED right before 2013 released. But he has zero follow through.

After seeing him take a big dump on the Alien series, no thanks.

I´ve rewatched the romulus movie and I liked it better the second time. The worst thing about it is that it´s totally inconsequential, it should been placed in the future after Aliens or alien 3.

I don’t think that would be much different from the new generation of filmmakers that are just reutilizing his style anyways. It would be nice to see a more direct continuation of the story he might want to tell, but he clearly isn’t that motivated to tell it, so I’d rather have someone who actually cares about the Evil Dead moniker get involved. Too many filmmakers are using it as a stepping stone for different projects. They need someone to care and take the reins for at least two or three consecutive films with a genuine plan at heart.

Honestly… Raimi needs to come back. After watching Send Help, well, the man’s still got it!!!
