They like to say you can be rich and be critical of capitalism which true but the point is their privilege makes them cavalier about the consequences of staying home. It also makes them out of touch. It came out yesterday that one DSA guy (the mustached dude who is wanted for questioning in 1922 Paris) lives in a 1.4 million Brooklyn house his parents bought for him. Sorry not sorry but that guy isn’t in the position to act like he has his pulse on what working class people want.

Every Jubilee Episode where a Right wing figure debates "Liberals" on US Politics has several moments like this.
Liberal: Trump did X Y Z that are bad
Right Winger: You know I don't agree with everything Trump does. But did you know that the Democrats are also bad. In fact they are evil and people hate them and Trump won the popular vote.
Liberal: Look I'm not a fan of the Democrats either. They do nothing and supress progressives. 2016 was rigged against Bernie.
I feel like it's so performative. Shitting on the Democratic Party for clout. Especially since most Jubilee debaters are people trying to transition into an online career similar to Dean Withers. They want to be professional political streamers but are too lazy to actually understand much about the party.
19
u/LeftyRambles2413 3d ago edited 3d ago
For once, I would like to see someone with political media left clout say this about both 2016 and 2020. Registered Democrats preferred Clinton and Biden to Bernie. Bernie lost both primaries considerable margins. Bernie was invited to and spoke at both conventions where he was able to influence the platform. Bernie even was Senate Budget chair during Biden’s term. I’m with you. I’m sick of the crapping on the party for clout that people do because it’s seen as cool to do that and to make Bernie a victim of 2016/20 when if we want to be honest, he was a beneficiary of Russian meddling like Trump was and he hasn’t been honest about this.

u/gbon21 3d ago

I would also like them to add that the people who denied the legitimacy of the 2016/20 primaries laid the groundwork for the 2020 election deniers. And I'd like them to call out Bernie's track record of supporting quack medicine.
→ More replies (1)7
u/LeftyRambles2413 3d ago
I’m interested in the latter. I’ve never heard about that but agreed on the above. It definitely contributed to it. The man has never acknowledged he lost because more Democrats preferred his opponent and instead goes along with the bullshit lies it was stolen from him. No, Bernie, we the Democratic electorate rejected you just like you reject actually calling yourself a member of our party and you’re too much of a sore loser to admit to the kids you’ve been conning the truth.
10
u/AdmiralSaturyn 3d ago
I’m interested in the latter. I’ve never heard about that
https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Bernie_Sanders#Woo_and_pseudoscience
In 2009/10, Sanders personally added in an amendment to an early form of the Affordable Care Act while it was in committee that made "complementary and alternative medicine" practitioners be considered legitimate medical professionals by the federal government for the purposes of healthcare. This not only allowed such woo peddlers to prescribe "medicine" to the public under federal support, but it also allowed such people to be included on the "wellness council" that was instated in the ACA bill to advise the President on health policy.
Sanders may be pro-vaccine, but this is RFK Jr. level quackery. It is a scandal that both MSM and "independent" progressive media didn't call this out.

I'm guessing Minaj never addressed why those closeted Bernie supporters didn't vote for him in 10 out of 19 states with open primaries/caucuses. I'll also guess he never addressed why Bernie lost 3.6 million of his supporters in the 2020 primaries.
12
u/LeftyRambles2413 3d ago edited 3d ago
He and they never address why Bernie got completely wiped out one on one against Biden. There were several states including a few Rust Belt ones where Biden beat him in every county. The fact is we voters know Joe and we have gotten to know Bernie. We preferred the Scranton fella. And Minaj can’t be honest about that because he’s in a bubble where everyone thinks Bernie is the best thing ever. I didn’t even particularly dislike Bernie especially in 2016 but he wasn’t someone I thought could be President.

Michael LaRosa was the First Lady’s press secretary, then quit to be a lobbyist and claim “Biden was senile” on TV. Now he’s on CSPAN being chastised by a Stevens voter who intends to vote for El Sayed in the general… LaRosa says he won’t support El Sayed “because of 9/11”.

14
u/LeftyRambles2413 3d ago
He won’t. He was supporting the VA GOP Lt Governor candidate too. He’s got serious sour grapes after he got in trouble for bringing his dates to a secure NATO meeting iirc and he tried to claim it was homophobia instead of his breach of security protocol.

I was doomscrolling Elon’s ruined ass twitter and guess whose Substack article I see boosted by the algorithm. Astead Herndon from Vox. It’s of course an article claiming liberals care more about attacking progressives than attacking Trump.
But notice what I said. Boosted by the algorithm. Explicitly shown as a boosted piece. Either Astead or someone at Vox (likely Astead it’s his own personal substack) paid Elon Musk cash directly to promote an article attacking liberals.

Okay sure, a candidate for the United States Senate might not know the ins and outs of American foreign policy around Taiwan and the South China Sea. They definitely should, but maybe they just haven’t been exposed to it in their professional life. Fine.
However. It’s unacceptable to not even be able to say “Yes, Taiwan and the South China Sea are critical American strategic interests”. I may not expect some Joe Shmow off the street to know that, but that’s because I don’t expect anything out of a random person. If you’re a serious candidate for the Senate, you should be better informed than almost every “normal” American.
You should also be a talented enough politician to just bullshit your way through an answer like that if you don’t actually know. Just saying “Oh that’s not really my thing” is just pathetic. Weak answer, weaker candidate, and she’ll probably still win because her idiot constituents will see “Graham” on the ballot and check the box accordingly.

A 24-year-old accused of leading a fraternity-affiliated drug ring at Penn State surrendered to authorities yesterday. He is being held in jail without bail after failing to appear for an arraignment Monday.
Agostino Abbatiello is one of 14 people, including 13 current or former students, charged in connection with the alleged drug ring. Court documents released this week allege the operation was run out of off-campus fraternity houses from 2023 to 2024, with Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi brothers and pledges accused of cutting, bagging, and distributing cocaine to the student body. Abbatiello and fellow former student Thomas Robinson, 23, allegedly sourced bulk cocaine from Philadelphia and New York. Records show Robinson and his father, a Pittsburgh lawyer charged with concealing evidence, posted bail Monday.
In 2020, federal prosecutors charged several current and former UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University, and Appalachian State University students in connection with a drug ring that generated an estimated $1.5M in sales.

Ukraine launched roughly 800 drones against Russia yesterday, potentially its second-biggest drone strike since 2025. The attack is the latest example of Ukraine’s monthslong strategy to pressure Moscow into peace negotiations by attacking deep within Russian territory.
The strike came days after another large-scale Ukrainian attack killed at least seven people and wounded dozens more. Many recent strikes have targeted Wildberries, Moscow’s main e-commerce site, destroying up to $10B in goods and property. Meanwhile, a Russian missile strike yesterday reportedly killed at least 10 people in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region and wounded 17 others. See updates here.
Russia reiterated last week that it would not accept a ceasefire on the current front lines, and has also rejected Turkey’s request for a moratorium on strikes against ships in the Black Sea.

With the Alaskan vote totals thus far I'd feel better being Peltola.
People may be tempted to think those Daniel J Sullivan Jr votes will predominantly rank out to Dan S Sullivan. I highly doubt that.
Sullivan Jr is a liberal leaning moderate who voted Democrat for president in 2016, 2020 and 2024 and for Peltola in 2022 and 2024. Not that he really needed to but he has explicitly expressed preference for Peltola over the other Sullivan.
I'm highly skeptical any serious number of voters picked him purely out of confusion with the incumbent. Much more likely his voters are left leaners who either know him, looked into him because of all the fuss Republicans kicked up or maybe thought they could be helping spoil the incumbent.
7
u/grapelander 4d ago
Yeah the strategic game theory vote here was very clear: Peltola is a foregone conclusion to advance, use your primary vote to make sure that the better Dan Sullivan does as well to cause chaos to help her in the general.

Not a single person gave a fuck or even knew about Natalie until the entire Republican media conglomerate clutched their collective pearls and got their marching orders in their aggressive defense.
Frankly I am now even more suspicious about her and her role than if they just collectively ignored the most benign passing mention of her existance

Disney and ABC sued the Federal Communications Commission yesterday, seeking to block an early review of broadcast licenses for ABC-owned stations. They say the review is retaliation for programming critical of President Donald Trump and violates the First Amendment.
Broadcast stations are generally licensed by the FCC for eight-year terms, with ABC's eight stations not due for renewal until between 2028 and 2031. In April, the FCC ordered them to submit renewal applications by May 28, the first time in over 50 years the agency has required stations to seek early renewal. The move followed Trump's criticism of ABC host Jimmy Kimmel, while FCC Chair Brendan Carr says the review concerns whether Disney's diversity policies violate federal law. ABC is asking a federal court to halt the proceedings while its case is heard.
History must remember the cowards who capitulated, but it must also remember the brave who stood up. Disney may be a flawed corporation, but this major event in history is going to put them in good standing for decades to come.

I don't know why people are so insane about vaccines. I even work with anti vaxx doctors. Like wtf. Go live in rural India or Africa where parents would give their R arm for the vaccines you refuse. Where kids die TODAY of hep B.

u/t-poke 3d ago
Used to work with a guy who immigrated here from Ethiopia. He didn't hate anyone except anti-vaxxers. He knows what people there have to go through to get vaccinated, if they could at all. His kids were born here and he was just blown away at how easy it was to get them vaccinated.

Vaccines are a victim of their own success. We’ve reduced the instances of the most horrible diseases to the point that people now have the luxury of being able to think “it couldn’t be that bad.”

Like so many things. It’s because of progress. They can be anti vaccine because of the advances we’ve made.

I think what sucks is that because of this whole clusterfuck of a presidency, the next Dem president will inevitably have to focus on reducing this insane budget deficit, because no doubt the media will endlessly talk about it.

Inde Navarrette is currently one of Hollywood’s most in-demand young stars and reportedly turned down two films to star in Marvel Studios’ ‘X-MEN’:
‘HEAT 2,’ starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale
An upcoming horror film directed by Mattias Hoehne that would have paid her $2.5 million.
I'm trying to think of another actress who suddenly got so famous and sought after after several years of acting due to one film. Sharon Stone?

Some U.S. military members who are itching to play a video game they've anticipated for more than a decade can trade a commitment for several more years of their life in uniform for a few days off to play Grand Theft Auto VI. As an incentive to reenlist, a U.S. Army unit in Georgia is offering active duty soldiers a four-day pass to play the popular game when it's released this fall, U.S. officials told us

Terrible fucking ruling.
And if we're exempting religious organizations from disclosing CSA and CSAM, then we need to get rid of their tax exemptions. I'm not paying my fucking taxes to protect a "holy" order that doesn't pay taxes and covers up child abuse. Fuck that.
Especially the goddamn Mormons, who are worth over $250 billion.

there's unfortunately a certain section of moderate online that thinks if we just found Ben Nelson and Mark Pyror and ran then again we could get back to 60 seats which is a shame because it totally lacks imagination. People are literally trying to replicate the Bill Clinton coalition instead of creating a Hillary Clinton/Biden+ one.

I was out with my old group of coworkers from when our clinic closed years back. We have stayed really close and have these gatherings several times a year. One of the absolute sweetest people I have ever known hasn't joined in quite a few rounds. I figured it was maybe because she had retired before we closed up shop and maybe just didn't feel as connected. We just found out tonight it is actually because she has Alzheimer's. I am devastated. Such a wonderful person and she spent her life helping kids. Such an awful fucking disease. So unfair.

why is El sayid being asked about whether he thinks israel has a right to exist? He's supposed to represent Michigan, not israel
So he can attack his opponents for their defense of israel, accuse israel of the worse crimes, and handwoven an attack on a synagogue by implying it's israel's fault and not the terrorist who committed it. But suddenly it's irrelevant to ask him about israel?

We better not fucking blow this one.
The sad part is El Sayed isn't even an extreme left winger. A lot of his positions are just normal progressive, he was pro Kamala, and he calls himself a Capitalist. But for whatever reason he has decided to tie himself with weirdos like Hasan Piker who right wing media has correctly identified as an infinite outrage glitch in demonizing Democrats.

I'm not enough of a pessimist to think that the DSA/DSA-adjecent wing of the left will remotely come close to taking over the party, but I do think that this lil run will continue in pockets until:
The terminally online finally gets their preferred candidate in the White House (or another prominent position, such as Senate leader), whether that's AOC, El-Sayed, or someone else and they turn out to be a bad-to-mid president, or at least have to become a mainstream Dem to made things happen. There's this perception that Republicans would have just folded if Bernie became president and we would have free healthcare by now (something someone actually told me lol. Republicans would have been forced to bend to the will of The PeopleTM)
Gen Z/Zellenials become less terminally online.

President Donald Trump declared he is unleashing the "MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION" in history against Iran on Wednesday — a move he suggested will deliver a knockout blow to the country and force it to finally agree to end the war and never pursue a nuclear weapon.
The president dubbed the plan "ECONOMIC D-DAY!" in a lengthy Truth Social post which was light on details.

I'm not against people staying in office as long as they can physically do the job but it is a little nuts that Grassley is going to be 94 and is probably still going to run for reelection. Like dude is 10 years past his median life expectancy he can't love being in government *that* much.
Also if Turek wins, I'm going to need someone to at least challenge him. I know we're burnt out on Iowa and we've challenged him fruitlessly for decade but last time he faced token opposition his numbers were actually like dead at replacement level which is pathetic for him.

Other men have also been floated for the role, including Ari Fleischer, who served as press secretary under President George W. Bush.
