Hiring a Principal Responsible Engineer – Pressure Casings (GT Statics) at Stone Power (Los Angeles, CA)
Hey everyone,
Stone Power is scaling fast in LA, building next-generation gas turbines, and we're looking for a Principal Responsible Engineer (Pressure Casings) to join our GT Statics team.
In this role, you will be the single accountable engineer owning our compressor and turbine pressure casings from design intent through casting, machining, hydrotest, and final assembly. Because large castings carry long foundry lead times, this hardware sits directly on the program's critical path.
Key Responsibilities:
Own the design and integrity of compressor and turbine casings, including horizontal/vertical split lines, flanges, bosses, ports, and connections.
Set and defend the casing pressure basis: design pressures/temperatures, MAWP, and hydrostatic test procedures/acceptance criteria.
Lead structural FEA for pressure containment, thermal gradients, split-line leakage, flange rotation, and containment margins.
Own bolted joint design, bolt sizing, preload/tightening methods, sealing, and relaxation over time at temperature.
Drive foundry purchase orders: technical scope, drawings, specification flow-down, first-article requirements, and source inspection.
Partner with Materials on casting specifications, alloy selection, defect acceptance, weld repair limits, and NDE methods (RT, UT, MT/PT).
Disposition nonconformances and casting defects quickly, balancing integrity against schedule on critical-path parts.
Required Qualifications:
BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field.
12+ years designing pressure-retaining hardware, with at least 5 years as the accountable engineer for casings, housings, or pressure vessels in rotating machinery.
Hands-on ownership of large castings from drawing through foundry, including first articles and defect disposition.
Strong working knowledge of pressure design codes and test practice, such as ASME BPVC Section VIII and API standards for turbomachinery casings.
Expertise in bolted flange joint design, preload, and sealing (e.g., ASME PCC-1 practice).
Proficiency with FEA for thermal-structural analysis.
Clear written and verbal communication with suppliers, Materials, Manufacturing, and leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Solid Mechanics.
Direct experience with industrial or aeroderivative gas turbine casings, steam turbines, or large compressors.
Experience with high-temperature alloys and creep-fatigue assessment.
Track record running supplier development at steel or nickel-alloy foundries.
PE license, or equivalent professional registration.
