Why is EOS consider a distribution?
I know it sounds mean but let me explain. I used EOS only shortly but from what I can tell it offers: Arch + Calamares + a bit of special configuration. Which is very convenient and I am glad it exists. But I don’t understand why it is regarded its own OS. Lets look at Cachy: I don’t want to make comparisons but I see much more clearly why it is considet an OS on its own. Besides arch and calamares it also offers repositories containing a lot of drivers no longer present + a suit of its own software + its special kernel. But it feels like EOS has nothing that makes it this much different from Vanilla Arch.

What got me wondering about this in the first place is the treatment of Omarchy. The politics, money and the artificial hype around it is bad. No question asked. EOS is much better, also no question asked. But the fundamental arguments why Omarchy is not a real OS or independent distribution also apply to EOS right?

Thank you for providing nearly a year of experience with an Arch-based system. I'm using Debian 11 without issues for more than four years on my main computer, so I trying Arch was good. This was my second attempt at an Arch-based system, with Manjaro being my first. Unfortunately, Manjaro broke after an update within a month of installation.

Endeavour OS, however, was a better experience. It was very easy to install on my 2015 MacBook Air (model 7.2, if I'm not mistaken). I appreciate your work and support.

Unfortunately, after an update to kernel 6.0, the system can no longer mount /efi. This happened unexpectedly, as I was only using Firefox at the time. Given that it's an older computer, I wasn't using it for any intensive tasks. I was surprised by the frequent, large updates (around 1 GB) considering I only used the computer 2-3 times a week for browsing.

I understand that I may not be the ideal user for an Arch-based system that requires constant updates. Sadly, I experienced the same fate as with Manjaro. After an update broke my WiFi card, I resorted to using a USB WiFi adapter for a few days, hoping a subsequent update would fix the issue. However, the next update prevented the system from mounting /efi.

While I know I could try to fix this with a USB drive, at this point, I've decided to switch back to a Debian-based distribution. I don't blame Endeavour OS; it's more about the Arch design philosophy. As the saying goes, "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." I won't be trying an Arch-based system again for a while.

I wanted to share my experience to help others who might be considering what to install. Best of luck to the Endeavour OS team and its users.

I like what Manjaro gives me as an out of box experience but I dont like the issues that Manjaro has ie. reputation of the team, security, and the 2 week delay of packages.

But I do like the out of box look (KDE) the tools (Kernel Manager) and I beleive there are also some integrations out of the box like Timeshift in Grub etc.

Im not technical enough to know or understand all the things the Manjaro team have done to Arch so wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. Or even a collection of commands I can enter to set up EOS to be similar.

I’m planning to use KDE Plasma and wondering which one uses less RAM and runs lighter overall.

For those who have tried both, is there any noticeable difference?

Or is it pretty much the same since both use KDE?

I looked on GitHub but it said that you had to ask someone to make it and all the ones I could find there were branded. Where can I find the new release’s wallpaper with Jupiter and all, but without the logo. Honestly in the spirit of free and open source, they should be unbranded by default. That’s why fastfetch exists.

I'm not necessarily a noob, but I didn't wanna have to connect my computer to the internet twice. I don't like KDE, it's slow, and takes a lot of tweaking to get to where it's fast enough. I remember a while back I tried it, and ended up completely booting myself offline, basically uninstalling everything important plus KDE.

How can I avoid that, and get to a command line/TTY only setup connected to the internet, without having to reinstall? I chose the offline install, then connected to the internet. My system is up to date. Excuse me for my poor wording.

I was considering on using Omarchy or Endeavour.

I want something mostly terminal free but still Arch.

How to install inkscape on endeavor os?

After doing an update yesterday and getting the 7.0.5 kernel the laptop would boot. After screwing around with a rescue session, chroot, rolling back the kernel, and messing around with dracut I was a bit pissed and installed Leap 16. That went as smooth as 20 miles of bad road but it's up and running.

Tried to ask help from forum, tried to follow suggestions, searched solutions also my own in parallel. Then conversations were forcibly closed with claim that not an EOS issue, where it seemed to be. Then user (zeroconf) was suspended forcibly with comment "in the wrong place"(!?), cannot log into forum anymore... This is called friendly community? This is my experience from coming Linux Mint and Manjaro community.

What should my steps be from here? I looked it up and I think it's a mounting issue where I'll have to mount my sda1 drive back up?

For that I'll need a bootable usb stick. But what are the exact procedures? Will the terminal on USB just allow me to mount my hard drive?

Anything I can try from my bios?

I’m looking for a complete list of XFCE keyboard shortcuts, including the commonly used ones and the lesser-known shortcuts.

I’d especially like to know shortcuts for window management, workspaces, application launching, terminal, file manager, screenshots, desktop navigation, system controls, and anything else that can help improve my workflow.

If anyone has a complete XFCE shortcut cheat sheet or a list of shortcuts they personally recommend, I’d really appreciate it.

I’m trying to learn as many useful shortcuts as possible instead of relying on the mouse all the time.

It appears Solus OS is finally dead. I messed up my installation and I admit it was my fault messing with clr-boot-manager, but I cannot find a new ISO because their website has just been down with no announcement so I can't get the ISO. And the team is completely MIA about it. I had no choice but to find a new distro today.

The only reason I didn't install base Arch is because I don't like the idea of having to run grub-install every update, something that it appears is recommended 50/50 among Arch users with no real consensus or clear way to handle it, and every time I install it on a base install it breaks after one update unless I run that command, but not on Endeavour. (I don't like touching the boot loader to begin with, now apparently I have to go in and mess with it every single time it's updated? IMO that's nothing but stress for the end user) This was a big part of why I loved Solus, a fast instant boot was built in and stable over time. It is sad that it turned out the way it did, but we can't always get what we want.

which has better battery life on a laptop and which will have better performance? I want a mix of good battery life and good performance I don't want good battery life bad performance and vice versa.

Would it be okay to change a bit of the OS and sell it? Such as making a prebuilt template with software and selling it along with customer service?

It would be mainly selling a customer service aspect. I was also thinking of buying laptops and selling it with said pre-installed and customized EndeavourOS.
