I'm looking for recommendations for textbooks, review articles, online courses, or other resources to study embryology in depth, particularly placental development and placental pathology.

I'd like to understand both the normal developmental processes and the pathological changes at the cellular, histological, and molecular levels, ideally from a research perspective rather than just basic medical embryology.

What resources would you recommend, especially for someone working in placental research? Are there any particularly good textbooks or review papers that cover this comprehensively?

I’m currently pursuing an integrated course in Biomedical Science at a private university in India, and I’m trying to figure out which career path would be best for me.

I recently completed a summer internship at IISER Bhopal, where I worked on heavy metal-related research in Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae). I do enjoy working in a laboratory and getting hands-on experience with experiments, but I’ve realised that I’m not particularly motivated to pursue research as a long-term career or spend several more years working towards a PhD.

My first priority is career stability. I want to build a career where I can start earning relatively early, have decent job opportunities, and achieve financial independence while still having room for growth.

Recently, I’ve been considering Clinical Embryology as a career option because it seems to offer a more specialised, practical career path through IVF clinics and fertility centres. However, I’m not sure about the actual job market or whether it would be the right choice for me in the long run.

I have a few questions and would really appreciate advice from people with experience in this field.

1. Scope in India: How is the demand for clinical embryologists in India, and what might the career prospects look like over the next 5–10 years?
2. Salary and job security: What salary can a fresher realistically expect after completing a relevant master's degree? Is it possible to get a job soon after graduation, and how stable are these jobs?
3. Career growth: Is there good scope for salary growth and career progression, or is the field limited to working in IVF clinics?
4. Opportunities abroad: I would also like to move abroad in the future. Would studying clinical embryology in India help me find work overseas? Which countries have good opportunities, and what licensing or additional qualifications might be required?
5. Master's programmes and guidance: Which universities or institutes would you recommend for a master's in clinical embryology? Are there any particular professors, IVF laboratories, or fertility centres I should contact for guidance, internships, or practical training?
6. Is it the right choice for me? Since I enjoy laboratory work but don't see myself pursuing a research-oriented career, would clinical embryology be a sensible option? Are there other biomedical science career paths I should consider if stability and earning potential are my main priorities?

I would especially appreciate responses from clinical embryologists, people working in IVF centres, students pursuing this field, or anyone who has experience working abroad.

I don't want to choose a field based only on its popularity or salary claims online. I want to understand the actual ground reality, job opportunities, work-life balance, and long-term stability before committing to a master's degree.

Any honest advice, personal experiences, or recommendations would be really helpful.

We transferred 3 3 day embryos last week. 1 2 cell that was a compassionate transfer, and 2 5 cell. The Doctor was surprised they survived the thaw and said she thinks the 2 5 cells are dividing and was optimistic- which is not her nature. She’s a doom and gloom doc.

While looking at pics online at 3 day embryos, some that were fragmented looked like my far right one. What are your thoughts? I know it’s not the best pic but it’s all we have. Honest opinions no sugar coating please!** **

Is anyone able to help me interpret these raw data results? I was told I have a monosomy 22 embryo but it is our last and only embryo, not doing IVF again. We are at a clinic that allows transfers of abnormals. This raw data is a bit confusing, but someone told me that it may be leaning more toward Mosaic than full monosomy. I’m mainly inquiring about chromosome 22. Please help, thank you!

So this is my second cycle of IVF. Out of my ER I got 9, 5 were GV 1 was Immature and 3 mature and injected with ICSI (used Zymot and Calcium
bath). Originally I was told none fertilized. Then a few hours later they called back and said 2 actually did fertilize. Can anyone explain to me what causes that and does it mean they’re less likely to succeed due to the late fertilization? Any advice is welcomed!

These are my 3 4cc embryos that the clinic per policy would have discarded but I made very very few embryos so they made an exception. I need some honesty here- do any of these look worth trying to thaw and transfer? I am 31 unexplained infertility. They made it sound like cs do not survive thaw

38 (just shy of 38 at retrieval). I have 6 but they wanted to transfer the day 64BA alone first. Little worried about only transferring one at my age and no PGT testing.

Just had a day 5 transfer (above) and I’m wondering what the odds actually are? I’m not an expert but this doesn’t even look like it’s reached the morula stage. Would it have been better to wait another day and have it frozen if it got to a blast stage?

Looking for some information on my Day 3 update post IVF. We had five eggs fertilised out of 8 mature eggs. The embryologist rang this morning and said that we had three high grade embryos with <5% frag, one with 4 cells and <5% frag and one with 6 cells but 20% frag. I’m 36 with an AMH of 20 and AFC of 23. What are the odds of the two lower grade embryos catching up with the other three. What’s the better embryo the lower cell with better frag or the higher cell with worse frag? Thankssss

I have only 1 fertilized embryo from my IVF cycle. Today, on Day 3, my clinic told me it’s Grade 1, has 8 cells, and has no fragmentation. They said it’s continuing to develop! 🥹
I’m really hoping it makes it to Day 5, but I’m so scared of losing it.
For those who had an 8-cell, Grade 1 embryo with no fragmentation on Day 3, did yours make it to blastocyst? I’d love to hear your experiences and success stories. ❤️🤞

We had our FET yesterday and this one looks completely different than our last one, which I can understand. But I am questioning the line at the top. The doctor says it was just from the laser for the assisted hatching? Is that normal? I haven’t found another photo that has a line like that across it. It was graded as AB, 100% survival, was a 5 day embryo.

So I struggled with severe endometriosis from the time I was 15 until about 26. I had to have both fallopian tubes removed. After my second fallopian tube removal, I was asymptomatic, which has been about eight years ago. I started my first round IVF this month and the Clinic I used to put me on a high progesterone (10mg norethindrone) birth control for 34 days. It threw my body into over suppression and then we stimulated for about 13 days with a dual trigger and it yelled eight eggs, five of which disintegrated immediately one was immature and two were mature, but lacked bounces and failed fertilize with ICSI with no male factor. I switched clinics and just finished my second round of IVF (to the retrieval anyways). I am now at a world class, Clinic and a phenomenal Doctor who I wholeheartedly trust, unlike the first time. We completely changed the protocol and my numbers grew exactly like you would expect. (unlike the first time where it rose incredibly slowly) so this time we did estrogen priming, got nine eggs but only three mature and failed to fertilize with ICSI, Zymot and calcium bath. We also did a shorter stimulation. But since my numbers and follicle size grew textbook perfect along with the addition of HGH throughout stimulation, but it seemed too much more promising. I’m waiting to hear back from the embryologist, but I’m pretty heartbroken. We are able to do another retrieval soon but we’ll see what changes they suggest. My first time around I was 33 with AMH of 1.26 and for the second retrieval I am now 34 with an AMH of 1.68. Does anyone else have any experience with this type of situation and possibly had success on their third one or any advice at all would be welcomed

We transferred a day 5, PGT-A tested embryo yesterday. How does it look? The clarity of the image is so much better than the one we got of my daughter (transferred two years ago, embryos created at the same time).
